Dealer, If Gibbs is calling plays the first thing he does is insert Brunell. There's nothing wrong with the playcalling. The players aren't doing their jobs, starting with Campbell.

Roger Goodell needs to fine the Pats for cheating in this game and give the Skins the victory. That's the only solution to this problem. CHEATERS!!!

Not like Joey is going to make half time adjustments... Let's just get ready for Jets. A winnable game.

How do you put Torrence on Moss? Unreal.
Posted by: bigfish | October 28, 2007 5:38 PM
I googled the term "woefully unprepared" and got the link www.redskins.com in return.
The Bills and the Dolphins, perhaps the two worst teams in the NFL managed to score in the first half against the Pats.
Googling "utter embarassment" will probably get you a Skins-related page as well.
Thx,

skins offense couldnt score in a brothel with a fistful of 20s
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 5:39 PM
This team is an absolute disgrace. This is one of the worst, most boring offenses in the history of this league. Just terrible. I don't know if I can watch them anymore this season. I don't care if it will be just seven games into the season after this loss. It's ridiculous and atrocious and an embarrassment.
Posted by: Colin | October 28, 2007 5:39 PM
I know - we're doing a reverse game. Collapse in the first half and roar in the second half.
ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!

Posted by: dealer | October 28, 2007 5:40 PM
This is ridiculous, I know this is the Pats but come on! These guys look horrible. Fifty yards passing at halftime? This looks just like last week except the D is playing just as bad. If I recall correctly, Gibbs ran the offense in 2005 and it wasn't spectacular, but it was a lot better than it has been since Saunders has been there. I'm sick, I'm just plain sick...
Posted by: redskins8085 | October 28, 2007 5:40 PM
Our offense has to be the worst in the league. Notre Dame's O could probably do better.
Posted by: bigfish | October 28, 2007 5:40 PM
Worst half in Skins history?
This Defense sux large. Posers.
When are they goin' to show up and play?
Gibbs 4th year and he rolls out this total abortion of a half!!

Oh, come on Colin. They're working a young QB and they have a 4-2 record despite devastating injuries to the O line. They've been in every game but this one. And, by the way, the team they're playing is the one that people are debating "Best in the decade or best in history."
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 5:43 PM
If we did throw to the endone there and it in an INT JC would have 2 fumbles and 2INT's. not upset with that call b/c Campbell cant get down on himself
Posted by: RockyTopSkin | October 28, 2007 5:44 PM
Yeah i'm better, and all i had to do was avoid the war, unlike my previous competitor. Same goes for the rest of my cabinet too. God bless the usa
Posted by: George W. Bush | October 28, 2007 5:44 PM
Okay I'm going to ask this question again. I brought it up a few weeks ago.
Yes the execution absolutely sucks. There is no doubt there. But our offense is so anemic it's laughable. Yeah we're riddled with injuries but . . . is it time to wave buh bye to Weird Al? Some kind of shake up has to occur right?
I realize Gibbs would never do it but here's where The Danny could step in and do something as the owner. The Squire would have taken them all out to the woodshed by now.
Posted by: sfskin | October 28, 2007 5:44 PM
Who couldn't predict this is exactly what the Pats would do on offense? Of course they were going to run, and throw screens and release backs into the middle. That was obvious. The deep stuff didn't concern me. It was the stuff in the middle of the field. Because Grilliams is so concerned with deep stuff, he has no one in the middle of the field to stop runs and releases. It was obvious what the Pats were going to do. And this defense isn't prepared for it because they haven't had to face anything like it.

Posted by: Dan Snyder | October 28, 2007 5:48 PM
We're 4-2 woohoo! But we're clinging to it like Wile E. Coyote to the roadrunner. Mentally I don't see how the team is in a good place right now.
Oh and BTW I hate that we were the Jints turn around game.

Why do they insist on taking Betts out everytime after one carry! Keep him in there for cryin out loud!
Posted by: redskins8085 | October 28, 2007 5:49 PM

Unless you get some better players for the O next year, it doesn't matter what you do with the coaching staff, Mr. Snyder.
Posted by: talent evaluator | October 28, 2007 5:51 PM
Offensively, they need to
(1) get rid of Gibbs OR Saunders
(2) get rid of Jansen and his huge contract - see if Wade / Heyer can take over full time
(3) get rid of Moss and his huge contract
(4) either play Lloyd or get rid of his huge contract
(5) keep throwing Thrash out there on teh field...he drops everything thrown his direction

Posted by: dealer | October 28, 2007 5:52 PM
This is the first time I couldn't wait for the end of the game to post.
This team is a disgrace. Horrible tackling, bad to nonexistant coverages, terrible offensive play calling; worse defensive effort. Offensive turnovers continue; pass blocking terrible; no running game and the defense looks like last year.
I have resisted calling for Gibbs to be replaced but it now seems clear that he has no ability to prepare a team for any kind of continuous effort. This team has not improved since last year offensively and the new defense is not putting forth any kind of reasonable effort - again the tackling is terrible..#20 just laid down in front of Brady on his running touchdown when he should have hit him high to have any chance of stopping him short of the goal line.
Grilliams is not making any kind of adjustments and Brady is tearing our vaunted secondary apart. We are getting no pressure on Brady with a four man rush and nobody is tackling the short receivers once they catch the ball. Secondary receivers are open by 5 - 10 yards before any defender even gets into the TV picture.
What a disgusting game and effort by the skins.
Posted by: oldskinsfan | October 28, 2007 5:52 PM
The Pats are a way better team. They made one mistake - a sack/fumble by Brady. The Skins just aren't good enough to beat them. Obvious I know, but blaming Al, JG, JC, CP....blah blah blah is a little bush league. Skins would have to play the perfect game to even be close and they are not good enough to do that. A missed block here, a missed tackle here and bam 24-0. I can't see how anyone beats the Pats this year. Too damn good...and I hate it.

Everyone knew we would lose to Pats...but we at least hope to lose by single digits.
What's on display today is a total embarassment.
But in a way, its a good reminder how Gibbs has not turned this team around at all.
The 4-2 record is just a side effect of a easy schedule to start the season.

Somebody get Mike Sellars a Skirt! He whiffed on Vrabel and and is stinking it up on the pass and run blocking today.
Posted by: DTC | October 28, 2007 5:56 PM
Another phenomenal block by a Pats receiver. This team flat out executes. Compare/contrast to the 'Skins offense.

Belichick says the Redskins can score points in a hurry? I wonder what plays he thinks they could call to do that.
Posted by: talent evaluator | October 28, 2007 5:58 PM
to everyone thats wondering why we cant do anything on defense.....
it all starts with the NE Offensive line.
they're AMAZING. if you notice, the ONLY TIMES the opposing defensive lines get pressure on Brady (generally) are when the Pats run screen plays and want to get the defense out of position.

Posted by: 4th | October 28, 2007 6:01 PM
also, how long will it take Grilliams to move London up to stop those throws to Welker? it's happening EVERY time.
move london up, and have one of the safeties play closer to middle of the field.
if it means going Cover-1 with SeanTay, then so be it....

Key stats:
1st downs: NE 26, Skins 6
Turnovers: NE 1, Skins 3
yards/rush: NE 5.0, Skins 3.6
I just hope the Skins learn a lot from this game, and start scoring some points the rest of the way. The best defense is STILL a good offense.
Posted by: Alan | October 28, 2007 6:10 PM
t-e, would you grant that the coaching staff has been woefully inadequate in getting the team focused and prepared to play good football? I think playcalling is playcalling. 9 times out of 10 in the NFL, you kinda know what's coming anyway. But the team can't execute. Witness Sellers' miscues today. Witness the receivers inability to block downfield and open up the second level for the running game. Witness the lack of mental discipline and focus game in and game out. Players are to blame, but getting players prepared is what you expect out of your coaching staff. Of course Weird Al doesn't script the JC fumble or interception. But Weird Al and his staff has to prepare JC to not make those throws and coach him to not handle the ball carelessly when under pressure.
All of that said, we are witnessing our heroes getting decimated by what could easily be the greatest team of the decade, and perhaps the greatest team ever.
Posted by: P Diddy | October 28, 2007 6:10 PM
WHATS SAD IS THAT WE ALREADY KNOW WHAT GIBBS IS GOING TO SAY AT THE POST-GAME PRESS CONFERENCE. SAME OLD B/S RHETORIC. HE'S SO PATHETIC.
Posted by: NOSTRADOMUS | October 28, 2007 6:10 PM
Pathetic, the Skins can't even get the ball back on offense to have a chance to throw another INT. I don't know who I hate more the Skins or the Pats at this point. Please change it over to another game FOX. Have mercy...
Posted by: redskins8085 | October 28, 2007 6:10 PM
When Gibbs came back he said he was leaving defense alone, meaning we can only judge Gibbs 2.0 by what he's done with the offense.
Despite the other comments I like what Grilliams has done on D, the offense can't keep them off the field-let alone score.
I don't care how good the Pats are, for 3+ years we've watched the same offense, Gibbs can't get it done anymore, its time for him to go
Posted by: Drewfus | October 28, 2007 6:11 PM

Posted by: P Diddy | October 28, 2007 06:10 PM
No. Players at this level can't blame their coaches when they're not focused. As for being prepared, I think that the coaches have them prepared. They've been in a position to make plays, but they aren't making them.
Posted by: talent evaluator | October 28, 2007 6:13 PM

We'll have to agree to disagree, t-e. Coaches are there for a reason. Good staffs get their teams focused and ready to play. The 'Skins staff gets failing marks in that category, as far as I'm concerned.

It looks like the Spurrier years when Ramsey was getting sacked on every drop back.

This is NOT Redskin football. This does not represent Washington DC.
THE ONLY thing that will change this is huge swaths of unfilled seats until the winning starts.
This is a total embarrasment at the COTY level, at the Franchise CORE level.
Posted by: DTC | October 28, 2007 6:17 PM
Any more comments about how Wade is an upgrade over Jansen. That was one of the most pathetic attempts to block I have ever seen. A folding chair would have slowed the pass rusher better. And remember I am basically optimistic about the Redskins (but not today).
Posted by: Lifetime Fan | October 28, 2007 6:18 PM
That's it. I'm serious now, I changed the channel. They can't even get junk yds! Why the heck didn't they go into a no huddle offense for the rest of the game? You give it to CP he immediately loses 5 yds and presto! Next play TD for Pats. Adios, time to watch some reruns of Seinfeld.
Posted by: redskins8085 | October 28, 2007 6:18 PM
Under Gibbs and Al, Redskins offense has gradually regressed since 2005.
Not that they were a good offensive team in 2005

Not according to Lisa.
By her words, we're improving every week. In her view, this is a stellar offensive output.

ALL YOU GUYS NEED TO SHUT UP. OUR TEAM FOUGHT THEIR GUTS OUT TODAY. WE WERE THE BIGGEST UNDERDOGS IN THE WORLD.
Posted by: JOE GIBBS | October 28, 2007 6:20 PM
Campbell fumbles again. Must be the coaches fault for "not getting him prepared and focussed."
Posted by: talent evaluator | October 28, 2007 06:15 PM
How about the Coach making some blocking adjustments...
It looks like the Spurrier years when Ramsey was getting sacked on every drop back.
What kind of adjustments, have Sellers and Portis block? That worked well in the first half. The Olineman were backups for a reason and the offense is suffering because of it.
Posted by: Lifetime Fan | October 28, 2007 6:21 PM
That last false start was like a drill to my skull
Posted by: RMilot | October 28, 2007 6:21 PM
Todd Wade, Portis, Sellars, Samuels, they are all getting thrown around. It is a total total embarrassment. It's time for somebody to get mad and fight someone. I'd like to see Grilliams punch Saint Joe right in the Grill one-time and body slam Bugel too, the Space Cowboys got no stones, they don't care that we get humiliated!!!!
Posted by: Mad-Steaming-MAD | October 28, 2007 6:22 PM
to make matters worse, the guy i was playing against had NE defense this week....
i'd take a FG here jsut to avoid the 10 point shutout bonus.
Posted by: kman | October 28, 2007 6:22 PM
He is our franchise qb and will be a great one (thou not behind this line) but he has to hold on to the dang ball. I'd get the backup in just to protect him and make a point to him about the importance of possession.

Need better WR's. need a better QB, campbell will never be better than he is now. need new CB, the skins are old and suck. one more time, skins need a new coach, all of them except Williams. Unwritten rule in the NFL. You go for it in situations like that. Avoiding a shutout by scoring three points is a wuss move.

O god please can we forfeit this game? In order to avoid injury and increased levels of domestic violence in DC tonight?
Posted by: SK | October 28, 2007 6:26 PM
Crappy beating. At least they didn't take the FG just to get the egg off the scoreboard. Needed JC to step up. What a step down. Still the knee jerk reactions is just stupid. This is exactly worse case scenario as we imagined it.
Please no more injuries. NO ONE ELSE ON THE SCHEDULE IS NE!

alright i'm home...listen talent evaluator and p diddy, i know folks like you think you're smarter than people like us who're calling Al Saunders head. but we do know what we're talking about.
as Gibbs once said (i think it was gibbs). that games aren't won or lost on sundays they are won or lost on Wednesdays. i think you two are smart enough to understand what that means.
this coaching staff, and al saunders is the head of it cuz it's his offense has done NOTHING, fcking NOTHING AT ALL to instill confidence in the team for Sunday.
yes saunders is not the one who fumbles or drops passes but WHO THE FCK IN HIS RIGHT MIND CALLS A FCKING REVERSE EVERY WEEK AND CALLS A FRIGGIN WR PASS IN THE FCKING FIRST QUARTER OF A 7 POINT GAME???????
the guy is just plain not right for this team.
and te, you answered to sfskin that they need younger people on offense. last i checked moss, kendall, samuels, JC, portis, cooley, rabach, sellers, ARE weren't old. and the oline played fine. which happens to be the part of offense NOT COACHED BY SAUNDERS!!!!
and for all these reasons i say
FIRE HIS ASS!!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

I literally am at a loss. I figured it would be ugly but this is makes ugly look like Miss Universe.
I will not argue with anyone who brings up all the points about injuries, young QB, leaving d on the field too long etc. All those are valid points.
In the end though you have to come out and play. You have to play at some point. And it seems to me that the offense simply isn't prepared. "You play like you practice." This performance tells me that this team isn't getting prepared. And that falls mostly on the coaches but I gotta say the players too.
Watching the offense this year is like watching the defense last year. You look at them and feel like there is something missing in their mentality.
Oh shti! I hate when I'm reduced to playing armchair psychologist. That's how completely craptastic we are today.

Going for it on 4th and 1 at the 5 yd line when up by 38 points. F Belichick and Brady. I hope they both somehow get hurt badly.
Reaper oh Reaper???
Posted by: bigfish | October 28, 2007 6:41 PM
I don't like the going for it on 4th down. Its 38 - 0. If Belichek was a class act he would pull Brady and be merciful at this point.
Posted by: Skins fan in Philly | October 28, 2007 6:41 PM
If Gibbs has just 10% of the killer instinct that Belichek has, the Redskins will be a lot better.
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 6:42 PM
I'm all for the Danny walking into the locker room and lettin' her rip cause I don't think Joe is going to do it.
Also we don't deserve to score at this point. Not a single stinkin point.
F the Pats though for running up the score. That's why I hate collge football for shenanigans like this.
Posted by: sfskin | October 28, 2007 6:43 PM
I feel you all. If the game was 2 hrs long, we would have lost 400-27. At home. The Pats are really that good. You just need to forget this sjk and win the games you can win. This should give a competent coaching staff a whole sea of teaching points.
Posted by: SMACK | October 28, 2007 6:43 PM
I was gonna say at least they'll held Brady to under 3 tds for the first time this year. . . . Oh, well.
Posted by: Jeff | October 28, 2007 6:43 PM
OK I am not one for taking cheap shots. However, you are up 38 - 0 and you go for it on 4th down. Pats have no damn class at all! If I was the coach I would turn the Reaper and L2 to take the 15 yarder and lay Brady ass out!

Posted by: bigfish | October 28, 2007 6:44 PM
u want to throw it against rogers or smoot, so be it, throwing it when your up 38-0 against a back-up is just cheap, cheapest team in the nfl

Personally, I'm glad NE went for it on 4th down. No mercy. The Skins need to see what "killer instinct" looks like... they will have to grow from this experience. They should have no illusions of how far they need to go to get to the top tier of the NFL.

why the f is that little troll running up the score. If I were Gibbs at the end of the game when the shake hands I would spit in his face and kick him in the sac. I really wish we would have hurt Brady durning that last drive. I mean come on its 38-0 and you go for it on 4 and 1. Golden Boy should have not even been at the game at that point.
Posted by: jmoney | October 28, 2007 6:47 PM
Excuse me?! The Danny has no place in the locker room. He needs to go look in the mirror and start chewing out his gm and then fire him and get a real talent evaluator in the FO. He (and his puppet Cerrato) need to be chewed out for crummy acquisitions, poor talent evaluation, always having the team cap-strapped and not having a plan. Look at the Pats for goodness sake!
Posted by: DS | October 28, 2007 6:47 PM
Let me ask you a questions. First New England offense is awesome and the Skins offense is like a 10 play high school team offense.
Its the 4th quarter and it seems New England is running the score up.
Why is Greg Williams not going after Tom Brady?
There going for it on 4th down with 38 point lead. I think you loose a team if you don't go after them. Not that you hurt someone but blitz and hit em hard and let them know enough. I coach and think its classless. If a guy is up 15 runs and still running on me late in the game I am throwing at him.
New England has a great offense and is there with the Colts but there has to be class in sports.
A good thing maybe the Skins flip out in the locker room and open the offense up. Here is there 3 play offense, Run to the left 2 yards. Run 2 yards same place on 2nd down, then on 3rd down throw a cross the body pass to the right sideline and it will be an incomplete.
Whats your take?

they keep passing. maim one of the dics
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 6:53 PM
Everyone has been taking their shots at the offensive so I will mention the Defense. I am glad Williams took the strategy to sit back, punish the wide receivers and make NE work for their scores. Hate to think what the score would be if we actually blitzed Brady and knocked him down once or twice. And of course after the other team embrasses you by going for it on 4th and 2 with a 38 point lead you certainly don't rush the QB on the next play.
I guess the only positive of this game is that neither unit can point finger at the other. They both played as pathetic as any football team can possibly play.

NO MORE CLOSE-GAME 2ND HALF COLLAPSES! I'm happy to see NE playing 60 MINUTES OF HARD FOOTBALL against the Skins. The Skins need to wig out in the locker room, look in the mirror and do some soul searching. The need a killer instinct.
If they can't keep up with the top teams, why even bother going to the playoffs? This game is the embarrasing wake-up call they need. I'd rather them get their asses handed to them here then lose another game to Dallas or the Giants. Thank you, NE, for the ass-kicking wake-up call!!!!!!

.we have seen Campbell play for awhile now...I will say what I said when everyone was crying for Campbell to play....It's NOT repeat NOT Brunell fault this offense can't move the ball! In fact the offense moved the ball better when MB was starting...don't believe me? go back and LOOK at the numbers...Campbell has been nothing short of awful....I will say what I sadi way back when...CAMPBELL IS NOTHING MORE THAN A SMARTER TONY BANKS! Sure he can run ...sure he can throw it deep...BUT HIS ACCURACY IS S H I T! But it;s not his fault ...The offesnse was fine when Gibbs was calling the plays...in 05 they were a good offense...since AL came in the offense has left the building.....AFTer 2000 and beyond...I am finally DONE...I just don't care anymore...This franchise SUCKS!

At least Cooley and Yoder are actually trying.
Posted by: Lifetime Fan | October 28, 2007 7:03 PM
Well I think it's a low rent move on the part of New England to keep running the score up past 30+ points. But it is the job of the head coach to get ur players ready for any game. I dont have a problem with the Skins loosing to NE, but I have a big problem with them beating themselves this way.
If Gibs cant do that little bit, and get the players ready for a game like this, then perhaps he should go back to watching his cars go around in circles.
Posted by: Steve | October 28, 2007 7:04 PM
OK our starters scored against their 3rd string. Great practice guys.
Posted by: DS | October 28, 2007 7:04 PM
you know what would be a good wake up call? Blowing the game against the Giants.
you know what else would be a good wake up call? Moss choking and losing the game to Packers.
If they didnt wake up then, they are not going to wake up now.
Posted by: | October 28, 2007 06:56 PM
The problem with those games is they were under the radar. Heartbreaking, yes, but close losses the team could look at as part of a typical season.
This loss will be on every sports show all week. This is NOT something that's just part of a typical season--it's one team being beaten from pillar to post by another team. And I think the players and coaches needed this experience to reach a crossroads, and break away from the status quo.

You should watch it. I mean not like you will ever see this kind of GOOD FOOTBALL on display from teh Redskins ever..
Watch how a master like Belichek does it and fantasize about someone like Cowher coming in to replace Gibbs next year

we should have gone for 2 and then sucker punched belichick. hopefully some skins fans will vandalize his car.

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | October 28, 2007 7:08 PM
I'm looking forward to the presser. Will there be changes? Will Gibbs say his players fought their guts out? Will the players blame themselves, the coaches, or just say NE is that much better?
Remember, the Cowpokes said NE's defense is not for real (they said the offense IS for real, though). The Skins have to figure out how to score, bottom line.

go for it Pats!
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 7:09 PM
Most points scored by the Pats this year.
Even the Dolphins managed more than 7.
There has to be wholesale changes in the coaching structure after this loss. The Redskins were woefully unprepared. People need to be fired after a loss this bad. Clearly coaches like Bugel, Breaux, Gray and Jackson had no gameplan ready. Smith and Khayat? Who? And the retreads from the 1st Gibbs era are holding back this team (Gibbs included). This isn't your father's (or grandfather's) NFL anymore and Belichek just proved the point.
The media needs to ask questions of the team and not leave it alone, no matter the rhetoric coming out of Redskins Park. So what if you burn a bridge to your precious "access". Better to let the team proudly spin the positive on their radio station/website than to pilot a sinking ship.
Thx,
Jay!

if the Redskins were a company someone must be terminated after a loss like this just to show to the rest of the team this kind of effort cannot be tolerated....need to pick a coach to whack too because they did a horrible job on a gameplan...
Gibbs needs to sprout a pair and make some expamples this week
Posted by: jtrob2 | October 28, 2007 7:10 PM
100% given that Gibbs will say how they fought their guts out and how he's proud of them and how Al Saunders called a "GREAT GAME"

Its one game. This is not the Skins year. Hopefully we can make the playoffs. Its a grow up Year for Campbell. Next year is our year. We are playing the 2nd best team in the game. Its one game and hopefully this changes the way we play offense. I cannot blame this all on the defense. They were on the field the whole game. They were awful today. Gibbs has to call the plays like in 2005. We have to go down the field early in games. I have never in the NFL seen an offense this bad. Also I think Betts should start.
Posted by: Tommy | October 28, 2007 7:11 PM

UNREAL! Our coaches let us down, the players let us down and of course fromt he Portis horse collar to taking the reception away from R El with 30 seconds left, the zebras screw us too.
Did the Skins really even have a chance here? Everyone in a Skins jersey should be ashamed.

SJK-can Gibbs?
Posted by: SMACK | October 28, 2007 7:15 PM
(1) Fire Saunders
(2) Bench Moss and Portis
(3) Start Betts in place of Portis
(4) Start Lloyd (YES HIM) in place of Moss - at least he tries out there. More than I can say about Moss
(5) Play McCardell...Thrash should only play special teams
(6) Get Demulling ready to play. Fabini is not getting it done
(7) Tell Sellers to STFU and just BLOCK.
(8) Look at Heyer starting for Wade
Most importantly, don't say "The guys fought their hearts out" after a game like this.

Yes they did. The camera cut away from Belicheck running to the center to the two of them colliding and Gibbs running away. The camera angle was from overhead, the hand-grab was in the lower left. You could almost see it on the HD broadcast.

Bro, In sports it goes week to week. It was the worst skins lost I have seen. but there developing a young QB. There calling awful plays on offense. The NFC is not that strong. They could make the playoffs but I am not stating they are going to make it in anyway. I am just saying week to week in NFL things can change.

they had something at the end of 05...and gibbs just completely lost it and hired the worst playcaller, offensive coordinator ever to be employed by the skins. EVER!!!!!!
and for those who want to defend him, please tell me what he's done up here? he killed mark brunell even before a single game. he killed portis (skins best weapon on O) before playing a single game.

'Skins: let's not envy them, let's imitate their precision. Back to work on Tuesday, fellas.
Posted by: KC Cristian | October 28, 2007 7:26 PM
The skins defense does not suck. C'mon, if the offense is not going to show up then why should the defense. If you inspire them they will play. Otherwise they are fed up with the offense. Having said that, I am glad we got our asses kicked. Bare withe me here, conservative play calling is not going to get you to the superbowl! You can't have a coach saying ' I was praying that this player will make a field goal, etc.. etc... Play football man! I think that what Gibbs lack in his 2.0 era (killing instinct).
Start looking into next year guys, this season is over! We need a new coach, offensive lines, cornerbacks, defense tackles and defensive end plus a wide receiver.
I am hoping that Jason will take this game as a learning experience even though he had been a turnover prune throughout the year whenever he got touched. I trust that he'll get better.
Last, be embarrassed, guys! I am not going to give new england credit for this game - we're much better than we played today.

The only solace I can find:
Everyone has looked bad against the Pats this season. Even the vaunted Cowboys. Not as bad as we looked, but bad.
We're not going to play a team that's anywhere as good as the Patriots the rest of the way. This alone is reason for hope.
F the Patriots. F THEM.

We lost rogers and smoot for the entire game, give me a break we have our full secondary out there its a little different of a game, offensively they just kept overloading the side with fabini and wade, injuries are really starting to kill us, we better go up and kill the jets and hopefully were healthier but i have a feeling rogers is out for a long time

When the Redskins beat the Broncos in the Superbowl, they destroyed them with a 35 point 2nd quarter. Up 35-10 at halftime, Joe Gibbs called 2 pass plays in the second half and won the game 42-10. That is what one does in this league. This is called having class.
In contrast, up 38-0 in the 4th quarter, New England was running pass plays and going for it on 4th down. Up 45-0 in the 4th quarter, New England was running pass plays. Up 52-0 late in the 4th quarter and with the Redskins trying to salvage at least a score, New England was blitzing. Up 52-7 with their 3rd string quarterback in and under 2 minutes, they called a pass play. Things like this do not go unnoticed in this league, and someone is going to hurt this team -- bad. I would not be surprised if, during the next few weeks, someone took out Brady. Running up the score like thisis just not done, and they did it on national television for all to see. It is not surprising that the most saintly coach in the league refused to go anywhere near Belichek after the game, and Belichek was left gazing around the field trying to find him.
It is not surprising that this classless organization was caught cheating earlier in the year. It is also not surprising that the lines from the Redskins coaches box (where they call the plays) to the field mysteriously went down for most of the first half. I would expect nothing less from this bunch.
I did not expect to win this game. I also did not expect such classless behavior from this organization.
People have long memories in this league, and at some point in time this classless group will be trod on. It may not be this year or next, but when it happens it will happen in spades. And there will be very few in this league that will not rejoice. It is a bad move to get your organization hated, and New England has managed to do that.

We're all proud of Campbell leading the offense to that late crucial TD. They showed a lot of heart out there. We're all in this together. I have no problem with Belicheck making me drop to my knees to kiss his feet at 38-0. I have no problem with that. I seem to be suppressing a lot of rage, but I'm not worried. We're all in this together. And did I say I'm proud of my players wanting to still be out there to pad there pathetic season stats?
Posted by: Old Man Gibbs | October 28, 2007 7:42 PM
Uncle Spence,
You can't be serious.
Anon,
I agree. Gibbs needs to be fired and tied to the Lincoln Memorial so everyone can pelt him with fruit and vegetables. After that, we can all take a sledgehammer to his Canton bust.
Posted by: Ricky Bobby | October 28, 2007 7:42 PM

Far and away Jason Campbell's worst outing.
Just dreadful.
Nate we missed you at the Upper Deck. We all had to leave before it was over though...

Posted by: Stumped | October 28, 2007 7:43 PM
The Skins should learn from this debacle what it means to play offensive football in the current NFL. Running the ball is useful, but to truly put fear in people's hearts you must mix it up, spread the field horizontally and vertically, always seeking exploit mismatches. Deep in his Don Coryell heart Gibbs must recognize this, and somehow convince the players of this, too. The Pats ran for over 150 yards, and the threat of their passing opened up running lanes.
If I'm coach Gibbs I'm bringing in my coaches, and then the players, and saying "what we're doing ain't workin, so we're going to give this a shot." It will be the biggest 'half-time adujstment" he's probably ever made, but something's got to happen.
Recall back in 1981 when the Skin's started 0-5 under Gibbs but ended up 8-8. He went from trying to be a young Al Saunders, and became Joe Gibbs.
It's time to blow up the paradigm again.

Losing to Cowboys 42-7 in 2 weeks !!!
Posted by: Anonymous | October 28, 2007 7:47 PM
Playcalling needs to change. Sorry. Fact is that 90% of our plays are designed to be within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. WR screen passes or 4 yard routes are the bulk of what we call. Every other team in the league throws underneath as the LAST option in the QB
Maybe his lazyness contributed to him hurting his hand...Wayne?
