Practice
Smoot was not on the practice field, so we'll see what the coaches say about that after practice.
Randle El and Marcus Washington were not practicing due to their hamstring injuries and were jogging on the side.
Mike Sellers (heel) was back at practice, at least in unfiorm and taking part in special teams drills.
Phillip Daniels was not expected to practice and looks like a longshot to play, but we'll find out if he did anything more today than yesterday.

i think its randall godfrey with the no trade clause.
Posted by: jaxy | October 11, 2007 12:59 PM
My guess is either Betts or Cooley with the no trade clause.
Jason, please tell us who it is!

Wow, Jasno is one busy little bee today.
Apologies for my monoblogging-induced stream of consciousness rambling this morning. It's been a shtity week at work so far and the opportunity to roam unhindered across the wide open spaces of RI was more than my hamster brain could cope with.
It shan't happen again. Until it does.
With beer.
Posted by: Redcoat | October 11, 2007 1:04 PM
Agreed, Lisa, I think it was one of the guys we just extended... would have to be a younger guy with clear, demonstrable upside because otherwise a no-trade clause wouldn't make any sense...
Posted by: Nate in the PDX | October 11, 2007 1:05 PM
I bet it's Shorn Springs. That's why he has the whip-hand in the negotiations with the Skins.
Posted by: Redcoat | October 11, 2007 1:06 PM
...and we only do contracts that make sense. up here. with beer.

3rd time is a charm, as the saying goes:
Per the last post, did that mean JC got a $100 grand for that TB playoff victory or did he have to start or play in the game to earn it?

ask him in the live chat, going on now...
Posted by: Anonymous | October 11, 2007 1:11 PM
A thought tried to pass me by earlier today, but instead somehow found itself captured in my meagre synapses.
I've skimmed much of the ITA/troll stuff of the last day or two, but when you actually read that stuff doesn't it look just like a typed version of Tourette's? I mean, all the random ARSE! insertion of BUM! capitalised words SHTI! and all?
Posted by: Redcoat | October 11, 2007 1:11 PM
That Lloyd stuff seriously makes me ill. Like JLa said, how in the world could the Skins coaches and management make such an awful decision (especially the money) given all the information everyone in the league had on this guy?
I have no idea how we stay under the cap for the next few years. And don't forget my list of 3 players they absolutely need to keep no matter what:
Cooley-done
Taylor
Campbell
If either of the remaining two walk because we're swimming in cap hell, I'll never be able to get over it.
Posted by: Ricky Bobby | October 11, 2007 1:15 PM
I'm betting on Springs as well.
Posted by: P Diddy | October 11, 2007 1:15 PM
Springs doesn't make sense if they were shopping him all offseason.
Samuels might, but it seems odd jlc woulld bring it up in that post.
Flloyd would make sense b/c that whole thing was about him.
But Betts gave them the home team discount and probably wanted protection for doing so. I'm going with Betts.
Cooley's a possibility, but I hope it's someone totally random like MarcusW.
Posted by: WrongDog | October 11, 2007 1:16 PM
My inkling with Receiver, The is that St. Joe and the Space Cowboys probably thought Lloyd's antics in SF were the byproduct of a kid being 24 years old. I bet they figured that a veteran locker room, a veteran QB (Brunell), and veteran WRs (Randle El, Moss, and Thrash) would whip the guy in shape.
Remember, back in the day, many of the folks on that 1991 team had reputations for being impetuous brats before being brought into the God Squad that was that Super Bowl team. Brian Mitchell got a DUI, Earnest Byner had a reputation that preceded him from Cleveland, etc.
Obviously, they bet wrong.

Redcoat + ITA = Great Idea
Posted by: Anon | October 11, 2007 1:28 PM
Springs does make sense. A no trade clause just means he can negate a trade to any team he doesnt want to go to.
So we can still shop him, but it makes it tough where he would accept a trade to.
Posted by: Zebra | October 11, 2007 1:29 PM
I tried to get it out of him, but no success.
Warsaw, VA: You're killin me here, the blog needs to know. Who has the no trade clause in their contract?
Jason La Canfora: Vinny Cerrato ....
Just kidding. You'll have to wait, bro. Letting the tension build.
Posted by: ce1782 | October 11, 2007 1:29 PM
It's defimitely not Springs...how can any of you think that when they were trying to trade him all offseason?
Most likely Betts. Gibbs absolutely LOVES him.

not guy mystery solved in live chat.
Posted by: FYI | October 11, 2007 1:32 PM
Should also mention that I do not mean "God Squad" pejoratively.
I don't know, maybe the NFL these days is all about these bonehead contracts (players wanting up front signing bonus money and front offices acquiescing). But if they had a choice at all, their miscalculation on Receiver, The's character does not excuse the huge front-loaded contract they gave him. Hopefully this past offseason is an indication that the Gibbs 2.0 front office has learned from its mistakes and is being judicious about who they sign.
Or maybe they'll go on a free agent bonanza in 2008...

IMO, a lot of what I see in The's behaviour is a reflection of how we treat athletes from the pee-wee level on up. There are kids in middle school that feel like they should be allowed to skate on any and every nefarious act just because they play ball.
They're told that to be highly thought of, they have to be cocky, especially at the prima dona positions.
Obviously, guys like ARE manage to keep their heads on straight and of course there are others who can get away with being complete and utter a$$es because they produce. But with The it's a classic case of not having the juice to go with the squeeze.

Nate,
I'm not "the not" either...I was on a long conference call at the time and went to check it out.
Not has the style down, but the substance ain't Nate. Nate does the occasional obvious imposter poster, but definitely not a sustained thing.
It was a good question for a poser though...
Not is certainly a long-time poster/lurker, cause he has the regs MO down xold.
Posted by: Stumped | October 11, 2007 2:02 PM
The no-trade clause has to be Brunell. There is no other reason JLa would drag it out like this. What would be the point if it was CP or Santana or Taylor, or another one of our star players.?
Brunell makes sense because he and JG are sole brothers and everyone still mocks that fact, plus it's still amusing/sickening to remember that we got roasted over the coals for 43 million and a 1st day draft pick.

JLa,
Thanks for finally answering one of my questions on the chat. I know Lloyd will only count for 2 mill on next year's cap, but a 4 mill hit in 09 will be pretty darn unbearable.

As posted on the an earlier thread
Dunliners + Dropkick Murphys = Rocky Road to Dublin
Best Irish Brawlin' Song ever
Just for good measure:
The boys of Liverpool, When we safely landed,
Called myself a fool; I could no longer stand it;
Blood began to boil, Temper I was losin',
Poor ould Erin's isle They began abusin',
"Hurrah my soul," sez I, My shillelagh I let fly;
Some Galway boys were by, Saw I was a hobble in,
Then with a loud hurray, They joined in the affray.
We quickly cleared the way, For the rocky road to Dublin.
1,2,3,4,5
Hunt the hare and turn her
down the rocky road to Dublin
Whack-for-lol-de-rol
Never let it be said that the Irish can't count to 5 (3, sir!)

"We stare at cheerleaders sometimes. It's against the rules for a cheerleader to date a player, but it happens all the time. I'll tell you the best girls in the league, by far, are not the famous Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders or the famed Raiderettes. It's not even close, folks. The Washington Redskins get the prize in my book. Every single one of those girls is stunning."
