Rabach Not Looking Good/Springs Likely Playing
Shawn flew back from Dallas last night and reported to Redskins Park, today. He was there for meetings and is participating ina wlak-through as I write this, according to people in the know. He was upgraded to probable and is expected to play, though given that he missed all week Fred Smoot - who has been rotating with Shawn- would not be a surprise should he start.
Have not talked to Shawn recently, and can only hope he's hanging in there as best as could possibly be expected given all that is going on with his father.
Casey Rabach's workout today did not go as well as hoped. He was downgraded to questionable with his groin strain and barring a reversal of fortune duirng warmups Sunday - with another night of rest - Mike Pucillo will play in his place. Stephon Heyer has been unable to do much as well, and with him hurting tackle Kevin Sampson, signed to the practice squad Tuesday, was signed to the active roster Saturday.
Reserve Cody Boyd was released to make room for Sampson - Boyd has not played for the team yet and could be re-signed to the practice squad or active roster next week, assuming he clairs waivers as expected.

From azcentral:
Quarterback Kurt Warner and safety Adrian Wilson are listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Washington.
Warner (elbow) practiced some Friday and said he didn't feel as good as he did Thursday. His availability will be a game time decision. Wilson (hamstring) practiced Friday, which is a light workout. He hasn't missed a game since 2002, so I'm betting he plays but it's not a sure thing.
S Aaron Francisco (knee) and LB Karlos Dansby (knee) are out. Receiver Anquan Boldin, receiver Sean Morey and right tackle Levi Brown are probable.

more from azcentral:
No one seems to know why, but the Cardinals have been slow starters this year. They have scored only six points in the first quarter of six games and just 16 in the third.
Combine those two quarters and the Cardinals have been outscored 49-22 coming out of the locker room.

from profootball weekly
As good as he's been catching the ball lately, we hear the Cardinals are more than a bit concerned over WR Larry Fitzgerald's recent fumbling problems (three fumbles in the last four games heading into Sunday's game in Washington). Close observers of the team believe Fitzgerald has been trying to be too cute a lot of the time after his catches and also might not be carrying the ball tightly enough.

Snap, crackle and pop aren't just the sounds of cereal when milk is added.
Those also are the sounds of the NFL. Muscles snap. Bones crackle. Ligaments pop.
The 2007 season has been particularly grisly. The number of season-ending injuries so far astounds even the players.
Already, 10 teams have lost quarterbacks either for the season or an extended period.
Tampa Bay has lost two running backs. At one point this year, Cincinnati had just two healthy linebackers.
Three Washington Redskins offensive linemen left Sunday's game against Green Bay because of muscle pulls. And the Redskins had lost two offensive linemen to injuries before playing the Packers.
"There may be some very specific physical factors, but very often, it's just statistics," said Dr. Ronald P. Grelsamer, associate professor of orthopedic surgery and chief of patellofemoral reconstruction at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
"Over a period of time, there will be a certain number of injuries. That doesn't mean they will be spaced out evenly over that period of time."
OK. Tell that to the players.
"I wonder about OTAs and minicamps," said Phillip Daniels, a defensive end for the Redskins and 12 year NFL veteran.
"We're doing more than we ever have in the offseason. When I first came into the league, we didn't have all this."
OTAs are organized team activities. Teams are permitted to have 14 OTA days, which essentially are practices without pads and contact.
Minicamps are mandatory three-day practice sessions, also without pads and contact, although in football, there always is some contact.
OTAs and minicamps are part of the 14-week NFL offseason workout program that coaches strongly encourage players to attend.
Coaches like to see their players practicing.
Coaches are missing the point, and this is not just an NFL tendency. The NCAA had to mandate that athletes be given one day off each week.
But most coaches don't mind if players workout on that "off" day. At many colleges, distance runners laugh at the idea of having a day "off." If they take it, they have to double their mileage the next day.
Daniels wonders if there is a cause-and-effect relationship at work in the NFL.
"I think we need to take a look at the rate of injuries before we had OTAs and minicamps and after OTAs and minicamps," Daniels said.
No such study is planned.
"There is no data to suggest that the injury rate has increased," said Greg Aiello, the vice president of public relations for the NFL. "We have tracked injuries for decades and the rate has been consistent within a narrow range.
"It fluctuates marginally from year to year."
If this is one of those years, Daniels would like to know why. He doesn't want his career shortened because of an offseason program.
Grelsamer found the overuse theory intriguing.
"It's certainly possible," he said. "We see overuse injuries all the time. It's the most common injury among people who are pushing the envelope.
"The players see it. The question is whether it's something they're doing or statistical."
That's a good question.
Every player in the NFL deserves an answer.

Good for the doctors and the Dolphins. Maybe having the rest of the season to chill out and think will help Trent decide it's time to hang up the cleats. He should retire before he endangers himself any further.

ARIZONA AT WASHINGTON
One word describes this game: Crazy. Kurt Warner has a torn ligament in his left (non-throwing) elbow. He says he hopes to play. Doctors have told him he risks making his injury worse. Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhut hasn't ruled Warner out. CRAZY. NOT TO MENTION: BORDERLINE IRRESPONSIBLE. The backups are Tim Rattay (37 NFL games. 18 starts, 28 td passes, 23 interceptions, not bad, not great, but not bad. 63 sacks. 63 sacks in 37 games and 18 starts). It's a wonder anybody can read his name, he's on his back so often. Tim Hasselbeck is the No.3 quarterback. Cardinals just signed him out of a radio booth. He's a former Redskin. Really good guy. Wife is on The View. Any father would be proud to have him as a son or son-in-law. Key words: signed out of a radio booth. CRAZY.
The Redskins aren't much better. They're calling offensive linemen from the strike team in 1987 to see if they can get to FedEx by noon Sunday.
What a mess.
Still, somebody has to win, probably. The Redskins are 8 point favorites. With no offensive line? Crazy.

JustMe,
I agree, he needs to think about his kids. He had a great run but his health and a quality life with his family is more important.
Posted by: mmok | October 20, 2007 10:00 PM
I can't believe Warner or his coaches are actually entertaining the idea of him playing tomorrow, with or without a brace. I read somewhere earlier this week that the doctors told him he has a 6 week injury. Why rush back from it and possibly make yourself unavailable to your team down the stretch? Is that really the time you want to have to depend on Rattay and Hasselbeck?
All I can say is I hope they don't tear Warner's arm off tomorrow (though it would be no more than he deserved for being stupid enough to play with that injury). I think it would freak out the brat to see that.
Posted by: JustMe | October 20, 2007 10:08 PM
You know, I think with Warner and T.Green and everyone else who rushes back from an injury - it's just their competitive spirit - they can't see the situation for how it really is. They just want to play! I admire it but the supporting cast needs to reign them in.
How old is 'the brat'?
Posted by: mmok | October 20, 2007 10:13 PM
Yeah, I understand that their competitive nature is what causes them to (at least attempt to) defy reason. And, it's great and heroic, etc., when things go well when you take the kinds of risks they take. When it doesn't, though, the results can be almost tragic.
The brat is 4. I take him to most games with me, and since the weather is still nice he gets to go tomorrow.
Posted by: JustMe | October 20, 2007 10:18 PM
It's a short field for us tomorrow gang!
We'll get two, maybe three, drives inside your own 50-yard line thanks to fumbles by Two-a-Carry Betts and Overpaid Portis. I'm also betting that Campbell will get one swatted out of his hand. Even the Rat-Man won't misfire inside the 60 with EJ running like he is.
There's no way we'll go the distance on your D, but we should get 10 to 14 points off turnovers, and you guys won't score in the 2nd half regardless.
So as long as we have the lead outright or trail by less than 10 by halftime, the game is ours in the 2nd half.

"... and I think Matthew Fox will be a good Driver X - " ...
Posted by: mmok | October 20, 2007 07:47 PM
I think someone already cleared it up about "Racer X", but there is more to it. He's Speed Racer's brother, Rex, i.e., "Racer, Rex." This isn't spoiler material b/c its on one of the first episode (maybe the pilot), but over my lifetime, I've learned lots of people never knew that. I don't recall why he (Racer X/Racer, Rex) had to go underground.
This is not good about Rabach. Hopefully he's a go for NE. The story about too much exercise also makes lots of sense to me.
Posted by: dcsween | October 20, 2007 10:49 PM
Also, on the Speed Racer movie, please tell me that they have not cast Gilbert Godfried to play "Chim Chim" ... or the Gerry MacGuire kid ("the human head weighs eight pounds") to play Spriedel.

I don't mind setting our hurt linemen for this game because they got to get better some time. Why not in the Cards games with a 4th string QB.
The Cards actualy wanted Vinnie but he said it was too far so he went to Carolina.
Posted by: M&M | October 21, 2007 2:24 AM
Okay, after a perusal of information on the web and on the blog, I got to wonder why in world would the Cardinals risk Warner in this game?
Seriously, their division sucks more than... fill in your own metaphor. If Warner comes in for the hurry up and A.Carter or anyone gets a hand on him, their season is done. Periord. Warner right now is like Samuel L. Jackson's character in unbreakable - Mr. Glass.
The Cards are not expected to win this game but winning their division is still very much possible with a healthy qb.
If they do put him in, I hope the 'skins finish his season. Not because I want any ill will toward him, but simply because it seems like a bad risk/reward for both player and team.
Posted by: bangkokben | October 21, 2007 4:30 AM
The Cards have the week off next week - I don't expect Warner.

O come O come the 'Skins aren't looking well
I think today's the day we raise some hell

And 'cause of that a Cardinal win's a lock

Rattay is standing tall
Though they 'ring his clock'
Still the Redskins fall.....

Last meeting
Washington returner Antonio Brown brought back a kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown as the Redskins defeated the Cardinals 17-13 in Week 14 of the 2005 season.
Streaks
The Redskins have won seven of the last eight games to extend their series lead to 71-44-2.
Win McNamee / Getty Images
Santana Moss can be an explosive player for the Redskins ... when he's in the game.
Last week
Arizona had starting quarterback Kurt Warner (who was already replacing the injured Matt Leinart) go down in the first quarter with an elbow injury and lost 25-10 to Carolina. Washington lost for the second time this season when holding at least a touchdown lead at halftime, falling to Green Bay, 17-14, despite dominating the stat sheet.
At stake
At 3-3, the Cardinals are atop the NFC West. If they expect to stay there, a win at Washington is a necessity. But they'll have to do it with Tim Rattay as their quarterback, a tough task. For the Redskins, this game takes on much importance as they face the Patriots the following week and do not want to carry a two-game losing skid going into that tough matchup.
Key matchup
Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss vs. Cardinals cornerback Eric Green. In the loss to the Packers, Moss had one of the worst games of his career and benched himself late in the contest with a sore hamstring. He has fought through a variety of injuries this year and has yet to find his Pro Bowl form. In Green, he will be facing a solid, if not spectacular, corner who has only one interception in his three years of service. With Moss as their most explosive offensive weapon, the Redskins are counting on their wideout to snap out of his funk and score his first touchdown of the year. If Green is able to hold Moss down again, that speaks well to the chances Arizona has of winning on the road.
Did you know?
Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald leads the NFC with 40 catches and 545 receiving yards.

Cardinals on offense
Two weeks ago, the Cardinals offense had growth potential. Then, quarterback Matt Leinart suffered a fractured collarbone, ending his season. A week later, Kurt Warner suffered a torn ligament in his left elbow. Now, the Cardinals are just trying to survive.
Warner practiced some last week, experimenting with various braces and tape jobs in the hopes of giving his elbow some stability. Coach Ken Whisenhunt and his offensive staff, meanwhile, are trying to do the same thing to the offense.
If anyone is sure what will happen at quarterback today for the Cardinals, they're not saying. The most likely scenario is that Tim Rattay will start, with Tim Hasselbeck as the backup. The Cardinals are off next week, so Warner would have two weeks to prepare for Tampa Bay.
But Warner wants to play today. And the Cardinals need him. It's possible he could play a limited role, perhaps running a no-huddle package.
If the Cardinals are to win today, the other parts of the offense have to function better than they did last week. Receivers have to catch the ball. Offensive linemen must stay on blocks a little longer, and the whole group must cut down on the number of penalties.
Receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin need to make some big plays to sustain drives against the Redskins, who are playing good defense.
The Cardinals suffered last week from poor field position, so making first downs on every possession will be important.
Redskins on offense
Quarterback Jason Campbell has made great strides in his third season. He's big (6-5, 233), athletic and hard to bring down. Campbell's biggest problem is that his wide receivers aren't making plays.
Santana Moss took himself out of last week's game because he was ineffective. Antwaan Randle El has just 20 receptions. Neither one has scored a touchdown.
Campbell's favorite target is tight end Chris Cooley, who has four touchdown receptions. He'll be a challenge for the Cardinals linebackers.
Coach Joe Gibbs' philosophy is to build an offense around the running game, and he has excellent backs in Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts. What Gibbs doesn't have are healthy linemen.
Center Casey Rabach, tackle Todd Wade and backup Stephon Heyer were injured last week in Green Bay.
The line is being pieced together, and the Cardinals must dominate up front. With their offensive problems, the Cardinals need to force some turnovers on defense and either score or create favorable field position.
The Cardinals, however, are dealing with injuries, too. Inside linebacker Karlos Dansby won't play because of a sprained knee, and the Cardinals will miss him. Monty Beisel is a capable replacement, but it's hard to replace Dansby's versatility.
Strong safety Adrian Wilson was slowed by a strained hamstring, but he hasn't missed a game since 2002. Count on him playing.
Special teams
It's not enough that the Cardinals avoid mistakes on special teams today, they also need to make some plays. A struggling offense would be helped greatly by a blocked kick or a big return.
The Cardinals special teams have been called for seven penalties in the past two games, so that has to be cleaned up.
Rookie Steve Breaston has been very close to breaking a kick return in the past two weeks, so that area seems to be coming around.
Antwaan Randle El is the Redskins' punt returner, and he's dangerous.
The Redskins' coverage teams have been excellent. Kicker Shaun Suisham has made 7 of 9 field-goal tries but missed his only attempt longer than 48 yards.
Bottom line
The Cardinals and Redskins find themselves in similar circumstances this year. Both have put some victories together but have not been able to sustain success. Redskins coach Joe Gibbs is one of Ken Whisenhunt's mentors, and their offensive philosophies are very similar. We'll take the Redskins in this one because of their defense. The Cardinals are trying to recover from injuries to their top two quarterbacks, and that will be too much to overcome against the Redskins at home.
Prediction
Redskins 17, Cardinals 14

Cardinals
Key statistic
6: The number of points the Cardinals have scored in the first quarter this season. They have only 16 in the third quarter, so work clearly has to be done on the way they play coming out of the locker room.
Key player
WR Anquan Boldin He's returning after missing three games with a hip injury. The last time Boldin missed a game, in 2005, he responded by gaining 100 yards receiving in each of the next five games.
Injury report
LB Karlos Dansby (knee), S Aaron Francisco (knee), out. QB Kurt Warner (elbow), OT Levi Brown (ankle), S Adrian Wilson (hamstring), WR Sean Morey (concussion), DE Joe Tafoya (hamstring).
First and foremost
Cut down the number of mistakes they made last week. Dropped passes. Penalties. Interceptions. Fumbles. Defensive letdowns. The Cardinals did all of that last week in a loss to Carolina. Starting fast would help, too. The Cardinals can't afford to fall behind early, given their problems at quarterback.
Redskins
Key statistic
0: The number of touchdown receptions the Redskins' top two receivers, Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle El, have this season. Randle El has been stopped inside the 10 a handful of times, but Moss has been a disappointment and took himself out of the game against the Packers last week.
Key player
TE Chris Cooley. The Utah State product has four touchdown receptions and can cause linebackers fits. The Cardinals must account for him on every play.
Injury report
G Randy Thomas (triceps), T Stephon Heyer (hamstring), C Casey Rabach (groin), LB Marcus Washington (hamstring).
First and foremost
Take advantage of the Cardinals tenuous quarterback situation. Tim Rattay hasn't played much this year. Tim Hasselbeck hasn't played at all. And Kurt Warner has one functioning arm. Take a page from Carolina's game plan. Be patient on offense and force a few turnovers on defense.

cbt - it's been pretty quiet all weekend. I think most of the regulars post mostly from work. Must have great jobs to do that. LOL

With a beat up o-line, we are going to see a bunch of bootlegs, screens, and other trickeration to slow down the Cardinal D.

Thanks for spelling "walk-through" wrong. It made my day.
Good luck clearing waivers Cody Body.
