Rabach Speaks
Casey says he's feeling a lot better. Still too early to say anything for sure about this weekend, but as he joked himself, "I'm too dumb not to play." He'll rest and get treatment but the team is hopeful that even if Casey does not practice he may be able to play Sunday.

From previous thread:
I don't understand people who come on here and say don't be negative, don't whine, don't talk about possible trades, the coaching staff, the FO, or the Receiver....after a loss what else is there to talk about? I praise them when they win and I criticize when they lose. As soon as we are a perennial playoff team/super bowl contender I will cease all criticism and be purely positive. But until then, the recent history of this franchise deserves criticism and this is the place that is built for reaction and team discussion. How much fun would it be if all we said was, "Gee Sunday sucked, but I know we are still the best and we're gonna win every game from here on out."?

Is "feeling a lot better" translation for I'm enjoying all those pain pills he was on yesterday?
Posted by: Anonymous | October 16, 2007 2:18 PM
For example, I think its ridiculous that McNabb, Andy Reid, and the Eagles are getting pounded in Philly they way they are. They are having a down year after a decade of excellence and flat out domination of this division. They have earned a pass from criticism for a season or two. Now if they go into the tank like we have for 15 years then they deserve to get berated mercilessly, but for now, they shouldn't be anything said about them, they had a tough run so far but I for one have faith they'll turn it around and contend again if not this year, then next. They've earned that, the Skins haven't! we have been the model of dysfunction for years.

GREAT news. I bet we go into this next game with the same line we started last week. Worst case sounds like it would be with demulling at G and Fabini at T. Not ideal, but not time to jump off buildings either.

Jack,
I agree with you. I used to post on the regular, and like you, I'm very critical of the Redskins. I celebrate wins all the way until Wednesday, and dread the losses all year. I love this team, but as you put it, when the team has been bad or mediocre for this long, you loose patience. It is expected. You feel like the FO is laughing at the fans. You get the feeling after 15 years of 'whatever' we as fans should be very angry about the tanking year after year, but some fans would rather sip the kool-aid and accuse those who choose to be critical as part-time fans, and "Maybe you should find another team". What nonsense. Take off the burgundy stunner shades, pour the cherry kool aid out of your Redskins cup, and get a grip optimists.

Jack,
I have been monitoring the posts on this blog, and have taken your proposal of trading Ladell Betts to us under strong consideration. However after reading the mocking posts that were made by Greg, Nate, and others, I am no longer interested. When your offensive line sucks this weekend, please do not blame yourself, however do feel free to piss and whine on Monday in your posts.
Thanks,

Hallelujah!
I'm tired of the we're great! Shut up attitude....I grew up watching the Skins, and when Gibbs came here, they were incredible, and when he came back I had hope, but I think the constant clock management issues, the poor personnel decisions, the repeated second half collapses, and the utter lack of in-game adjustments (a hallmark of Gibbs I) have proven he lost a step. I actually am pretty proud of the Danny for getting Gibbs, and giving him the time to prove he can't do the job (something he didn't do with Marty) and I have faith that he will pay whatever he needs to pay to get the most qualified option out there, I just hope he gives the next guy the same time that the "Gibbs" name got Joe, because he has been mediocre at best.
Posted by: Jack | October 16, 2007 2:41 PM
No one is saying you can't be critical or not post. It's just that if you don't read the posts already posted where people say "trading is not possible" then what do you expect?
For the last time: We cannot trade or cut anyone with a signing bonus of any kind these players include but are not limited to:
Betts
Portis
Cambell
Landry
Taylor
Moss
ARE
Jansen
Samuel
Washington
London-Paris-Fletcher-Hunter-Baker
Griff
Springs
Carlos
Smoot
So please stop with the trade talk. I'l be happy when the clock strikes 4 today although some people will probably be talking trades in december.

I love offensive line men. They are the cornerstone of a franchise. It is clear that you must have a good to great O-line, if you want to be on the podium first week of February hoisting the trophy. Second, you must solidify your secondary, I'll start with the FS, followed by a shut down corner, then the SS. Next is the QB, LB's, D-line, WR's, RB's, and K/P. In that order to.
Posted by: Blueprint | October 16, 2007 2:42 PM
Vinny,
I would like to acquire most of, if not all of the above named players for a 7th round pick this year, AS WELL AS, a 6 month subsciption to the Denver Post.
Let me know....
Posted by: Mike Shanahan, Denver Bronco's | October 16, 2007 2:44 PM
So what's the strategy on offense against the Catbirds?
a) Quick release stuff in the seam.
b) Run to set up the pass (or has this strategy been rendered quaint in today's NFL?).
c) Play action and screens.
d) Turn it over to the D and let them put points on the board.
{Sorry for breaking the RI list conventions dealer}
Posted by: Stumped | October 16, 2007 2:45 PM
And like Bruce Allen just said, when our Oline sucks again this week against a pretty good Arizona defense I will whine, because something could be done today about it but nothing will, because St. Joe is "raking his brain" on how to fix things. Kendall came here for not a high price tag and has played great, we could find a starter out there for a conditional 5th or Betts and a laterounder but nothing will happen. And one more injury and our season is over....
Posted by: Jack | October 16, 2007 2:45 PM

Posted by: HeHeHa | October 16, 2007 2:46 PM
Skinz, deals can be structured to minimize the hits (like the Archuletta deal) if the new team guarantees the bonus or the player re-structures anything is possible.
Posted by: Jack | October 16, 2007 2:48 PM
Jack,
I would be willing to trade most of, if not all of my offensive line to the Redskins, for the following players:
Betts
Portis
Cambell
Landry
Taylor
Moss
ARE
Jansen
Samuel
Washington
London-Paris-Fletcher-Hunter-Baker
Griff
Springs
Carlos

I'm suprised that you'd want to deal with us after we ripped you off on our previous dealings.
P.S. Thanks for selling me that land in Florida. We are trying to get started on the build but have been having some issue. Apparently there has been alot of rain because every builder i speak with says drainage will be an issue.

Yeah you guys are right.....
Can't wait to watch Fabini, Demulling, and Pucillo maul Arizona! and Betts sit on the bench most of the game and carry the ball 5 times.
Posted by: Jack | October 16, 2007 2:54 PM
Yeah Jack, because another team's backup offensive linemen could come in and start for the Redskins this Sunday. That would be a great reason to trade Betts. Super smart stupendously great reason.
Posted by: abe howard | October 16, 2007 2:57 PM
Don't tell me that some of you are still on the Betts topic.
Posted by: jm220 | October 16, 2007 2:58 PM
Soften them up with quick strikes to Moss, ARE, Cooley... and pound the dickens out of them with Portis and Sellers.
We HAVE to get the running game going. If we "pass to set up the run," so be it, but there must be balance. We can't magically turn into a spread offense midseason.
The biggest question may be whether there's rain in Sunday's forecast for Raljon...
Posted by: Nate in the PDX | October 16, 2007 2:59 PM
And then when CPortis gets hurt, and Rock Friggin Cartwright is your running back, you'll cry about not having Betts anymore because he was traded.
And one more thing. SALARY CAP JACK! As noted by several others, the nfl is not fond of teams going over the cap, which trading him would do. You are the weakest link, Goodbye.

Power Ranking Explanation:
I thought I'd my ranking on this board. The skins are 11 spots lower than the Packers because you lost by 3 points in an away game. You were completely dominated
You are only 1 spot below the Lions because I felt they dominated the game. Had it not been for those lucky 5 TD's the game would have been very close.

Posted by: jm220 | October 16, 2007 3:00 PM
Jack- Its ok not to know every minute detail about players contracts, its obvious you have a life outside of this blog. You're not employed by the NFL or any NFL media affiliate .These guys know all this info and more than likely have average jobs like you and I. I'm willing to bet there is no Comcast, ESPN/ABC, FOX, CBS, or NBC logo on their paychecks. These people more than likely watch classic episodes of Star Trek or collect Star Wars action figures, even the ones from the prequels. Some on here allow you to express your opinion freely, and basically welcome a little criticism. Others will ridicule you for freely expressing your opinion. I hope and pray none of the imbeciles live in the DC metro area, if they do it will explain a lot around here.

Posted by: Qucik Question | October 16, 2007 3:01 PM
We should trade Jason Cambell for Vinny Testeverde. That guy lit it up the other day.
Posted by: Not Jack (but could be) | October 16, 2007 3:01 PM
Welcome back, jm220, my friend. Aside from feeling like I got punched in the stomach twelve times on Sunday, things are going pretty well.
Sure, I still have the nightmares (there's Tiki running free into our D backfield again! look, there he is again! and again!), but my therapist says in a few years I should be fine.
Posted by: Nate in the PDX | October 16, 2007 3:04 PM
And one more thing, the NFL does allow you to restructure or new teams guarantee bonuses so we could get a deal done and we don't have to deal Betts, we got Kendall for a 5th, I bet the Falcons or Dolphins might trade a good olineman for a 4th? , but forget it, I'm off it, ya'll are right, we're in great shape at Oline and don't need to do anything to fix it.
We have got to go towards the Green Bay type of offense (that's worked against everybody but us so far, one not criticism of this team, our D is absolutely legit again!) and throw slants, swings, and hitches. We just aren't going to be able to line up and run it anymore cause everyone know we're going left.

I think sonny and sam are funny. so does my wife. I'm too cheap to get the dish, but am a dyed in the wool skins fan, so I end up listening to them every weekend on the internets. Living in Minnesota means that I can't see them on the TV every weekend.
One good point that the Jack thing brings up is why we are all still fans after so many years of terrible football. I remember Gibbs 1.0, and became a fan then. I can't figuer out why anybody would become a fan of the Redskins now, though. In a lot of ways, they end up representing everything that I hate about pro football and pro sports in general (way too much money, fan gouging, racist nicknames, etc...)
But, I read this damn blog everyday along with all of the other ones (curly R, etc...) It's sort of like a soap opera. That, and the off-season is usually as good, if not better, than the regular football season :)
Jasno: You have good taste in music. Have you read "Please Kill Me", an oral history of the early punk scene (MC5, Stooges, J.Thunders, etc, etc)?

I'm sorry, I'd like to repeat, Chris Chambers just got traded! A pro-bowler stuck on a miserable team that was one of only two (Burress) WR's that have had any success against us just got traded, (for initial indications of either a conditional 4th or a 5th and 6th)and we won't do anything and hold onto our late rounders to pick maybe one guy (H.B. Blades) that even makes the team instead of getting an Olineman.

Apropos of nothing, but to try to make you all feel a little better, let it be said that I am confidently predicting that New England will lose their unbeaten record this week, against my decrepit winless Dolphins.

Redcoat, sorry read the 4th/5th & 6th on pro football talk, but I wouldn't have given a second for him. That's a great deal for you guys. I still say a starting olineman could be had for second day picks (like Kendall) and we should do that. But everyone on here is smarter than me and is happy with our lack of a running game and no depth.
This team has a shot at a legit run in the playoffs, but not if we can't run the ball or protect our great young QB. I'm sorry, you make a move if you can and you call everyone in the league to find it. I just think we are wasting shot in a weak NFC and I would hate to see JC get shell shocked like Ramsey did because we can't block anybody.

jm220, welcome back. You have been missed, esp. in the couple/few blog skirmishes (never really rose to the level of blogwars, except for the fake Nate episode) since you've been gone. Like a petulent child. "I want, I want, I want". How do you know they're not working the phones right now? Because Gibbs said they won't make a trade? Yeah, Jack, like he'll tell the truth on that issue ahead of time.
Rabach will play. Wade will play. And Jack will be Jack

OK:
1. To me we cant blame staff/FO on this OLine ish. The rash of injuries there has been insane. We had decent back-ups, there hurt too! I actually think the dudes we had backing up have played well.....this is a bit of weird luck.
2. Jack do you seriously want a Dolphins linemen (one of worst in the league) no one we get today is helping this week anyway so what is the reason?
3. You can't just always "pick some one up" especially 3, 4 times in a year. Kendall even Demulling and UFA Heyer have all been good pick ups...lightening not gone strike 4, 5 times....
4. Betts don't fit Tampa's scheme my man, he aint a west coast back. Micheal Bennet is better suited, and prolly just straight better.....
5. Trades are a tough deal in the NFL, even if a few get done.
6. I love this "Make it happen" approach you people take. Roster moves are complicated! I would try to explain but then...
7 Captain High Horse Skins Realist would say I have no life.....bub your a SJK-hole....
8. Skinsrealist and Jack. I love how other people are "kool-aid" drinkers if they don't accept your crack (as in vials of...) analysis. You always read everyone as doling out HJs to skins....I dont see that at all, but if we dont agree with your take we must be giving reacharounds to Snyder right.....puleeze

If it could be done, I'm not a GM and I don't know that it could, my entire point is that once again Joe proves his stupidity by saying they aren't even looking to make a move........
How can you not?!!?!?!?!
And how can you say that??!?!?!?!?
Your line is in shambles, at least give the song and dance answer that "we're always looking to improve our roster and if a deal makes sense for this team of course we'll do it" but to say we are not even interested in a deal shows how far Joe has fallen.

Chris Larry, people don't have to agree with me, I'm used to them not, but attacking me for being critical of this team is what pisses me off. And your absolutely right, Kendall, Demulling, Heyer, were great moves. But we still need help! we're hurt and thin, a move for another lineman makes complete sense if its available and I don't know that they're not trying, but Joe seems to be a man of his word and when he is trying to hide something he is cryptic and vague, he doesn't say one thing and do another. So you have to believe him when he says they are looking to make a move and I just think that is ridiculous to say. You should be knocking on every door to see what's there and at what price.

Hey cL, did you see that Ronnie Brown is now the leading RB from line of scrimmage? We're getting plenty of points from our offense on both running and passing plays, we just couldn't stop a peewee team on defense!!
But we wouldnp't trade those guys anyway as we drafted most of them this year for the future.

Jack,
Lets say that, Wade plays Sunday, and doesn't have a set back.
Lets also say that Demulling gets the start at guard, and plays well.
Now, lets also say that Rabach plays and doesn't have a setback.
So now we've made a trade for a player, and have no where to play that guy.

Opinions about what should be done by our team isn't a measure of intelligence it is simply opinions and until done nobody can say who is wrong or right. But being unable to have a conversation with other fans even if you disagree with them without presenting any legit points and just insulting them is a lack of intelligence. While I have said plenty of things that may or may not be right, and should or shouldn't be done, I don't start saying people are retards if I disagree with them.

Amen, Abe Howard! We were well stocked with O linemen. Has any team EVER lost 3-4 O lineman in a year - let alone one game? That is something no team would ever anticipate.

Jack,
What I'm trying to say is that none of these injuries warrents putting any of these guys on IR. Making a trade for a "starting" offensive lineman, is going to take a first day pick of some variety. So what you're proposing is trading a first day pick, for someone who might not even have a starting job??
Thats what EACH OF US, has been railing against the FO for doing in the past. We don't want to get back in that habit.

Nate, don't get me wrong, I love Heyer now. And I'm not like those faint praisers who say "someday" he's gonna be great, I'm there right now. Who cares about "someday" anyway? Not this hamster, that's for sure, I want glory now ... and I DESERVE IT! [Also, I don't think Heyer has narrow shoulders, just large ... massive ... hips. And I don't need a beauty pageant queen on the O-line ... the O-line has plenty of maps, such as.]
Posted by: dcsween | October 16, 2007 4:09 PM
Greg, I've never said trade a 1st day pick! I've said Betts, which apparently everyone thinks is impossible (not a capoligist so fine) or package a couple 2nd day picks. I don't know that would get it done, but with the recent history of what 4th and 5th rounders can get you I would think somebody might be a taker. Again, Gibbs is a man of his word, he has never done something he has publicly said he wouldn't and for him to say they have no interest in any moves is ludicrous, how can he say that? Again, at least give the "if it makes sense" or the "we're exploring our options" lines, I just think its silly to not even try when there are a lot of teams and a lot of needs out there and we can make a run in the NFC. It's just another example of this coaching staff's stubbornness hurting the team. Anyway, its 4:12 PM EST so this is meaningless now.

I'm with Beantown Greg. No more draft picks surrendered. This is like having bad CC debt and continuing to borrow to pay off the debt.
It's time to face the piper. If that means we don't make the playoffs this year so be it. Giving up draft picks to fill spots is exactly the reason we don't have the depth to step in.

Abe Howard, if I remember correctly, they released two players from the practice squad awhile back and signed another player - not 2. I could be wrong though.
Last word on how ridiculous it would be to trade Betts (which would NEVER happen anyway because Gibbs LOVES him) - what if CP went down...then we have...what? Mason off the practice squad...Rock as a backup...and Sellers occasionally? That makes no sense out all. They would have to go "duckett" hunting again.
Posted by: Lisa | October 16, 2007 4:28 PM
I am really shocked at all the attention the o-line is getting today and probably will for the rest of the week. I cannot remember when there was this much interest. Granted, I can't remember losing half of the remaining starting linement in one game either. I think our line will do better than most are fearing. I see some extra help coming in the form of keeping Cooley on blocking assignments and Sellers blowing up would-be blitzers. With all the pub the Redskins' line is getting and the what-do-we-have-to-lose attitude of the Arizona Bidwells, watch for the 'Cards to put 8 in the box on first downs or bring the house on third and short. remeber the naked bootleg that Joe Theisman used to run? I predict something from page 699 of Big Al's playbook coming this week.
Posted by: Wayne P. | October 16, 2007 4:38 PM
We had a "Duckett" before Duckett even got here. His name is Mike Sellers. I myself would love to see a RB depth chart starting with Betts, Sellers then Cartwright. I know that might not be a popular lineup, but I am just tired of Clinton Portis ripping off one 8-yard run then heading to the bench for a breather. I guess that's why some guys actually participate in camp. Maybe it's just me.
Posted by: Wayne P. | October 16, 2007 4:43 PM
The team website now has the story. It says they signed the 2 linemen and cut Lefotu and fullback Brian Bell. Hopefully none of them need to dress this Sunday.

I wouldn't say the typical RI ThRedSkin is a 'want it now' type... I think they're 'want it done' types, though.
It does all seem to come back to 0-line though - I mean, if sammy morris can become a servicable back... geez.
Did you see the Cowpatties rush 6 and STILL not get to Brady? That's a frekkin' O-Line!... hmm... Gibbs type foobaw workin in the NFL?... whodathunki?
Posted by: Dik | October 16, 2007 4:44 PM
Here's an interesting side note to Hasselbeck signing. Cards released defensive end Quentin Moses to make room for Hasselbeck on the roster. I know that everyone is now focused upon mending the OL (and for a good reason), but should they consider signing a 23 year old defensive end from Georgia, who was the first pick in the third round of last years' draft? He was released twice this year, but perphaps they could sign him as a long-term project for a DE position that they could get without surrendering any draft picks? It might be a low-cost, high-risk gamble, but also with high reward potential.

Dear Jack,
Given the current rate of attrition (by injury) of offensive lineman in the NFL, no team is going to trade away a starting O-Lineman. My bet is that most teams would not even consider trading away a back-up O-Lineman. (The only reason Kendall was available - in training camp - is because he was in a long-term dispute with Jets' management over money.)
I totally agree with you that the Redskins need to find healthy bodies for the O-Line. Unfortunately, the most likely source for said healthy bodies at this time of the year is on the waiver wire.
Posted by: The Mole | October 16, 2007 4:55 PM
So there are now three O-linemen on the practice squad (one added, one retained, one swapped). Any of these three likely to be elevated to the actual team roster, such as?
Posted by: dcsween | October 16, 2007 4:57 PM
On the NFL site, in the stat menu, the Arizona offense seems similar to the Skins offense. On some stats, they're better, on some, the Skins are better. Both teams are in the middle of the NFC. [They have a better kicker, Skins have a better punter, last week notwithstanding.] The big big difference is in defenses. It kind of snuck up on me on how highly ranked the Skins' D is in the NFC. In several categories, the Skins are #1 (really good against the pass, against the rush, against the reception, points scored, points allowed, but not so good in interceptions or sacks or tackles). Arizona's D is consistently in the middle.
Posted by: dcsween | October 16, 2007 5:11 PM
sween- Warm bodies for practice while the big boys heal up. Won't be surprised if one is activated prior to game time though, just in case. (And let's hope 'just in case' remains just that).
Posted by: 4-12 | October 16, 2007 5:13 PM
When a team has an outstanding offense, they get fewer tackles because the opponent's offense is on the field less often. (Lower time of possession translates to fewer plays.)
Posted by: Anonymous | October 16, 2007 5:15 PM
5:15pm, good point. I'd love to see the "time of possession" stats. That seems like the better way to manage guys like Brady (or Kitna or Favre), rather than rushing 5-6-7 guys.
Posted by: dcsween | October 16, 2007 5:20 PM
I didn't mean to suggest the Skins had an "outstanding" offense, just one that can maintain time of possession (one first down at a time).
Posted by: dcsween | October 16, 2007 5:21 PM
CORKCZAR, don't tell me Betts won't get better than a 6th rounder because then you are fooling yourself. Betts is the best back we have. Portis is done. If Joe puts Betts in and stops acting like the old fool that he is, we would win more games.++++---JACK

The thing I don't like about this Cardinals game is not so much playing the Cardinals, its more about playing the former brains of the Super Bowl Steelers offense with Edgerin James. Also, Grimm playing under Joe Bugel, right? That's not so good. That translates into Joe Bugel updated, beta test version.

Boston Greg, it is not unusual for young players to be released on multiple occasions. Mike Sellers, for example, played for Edmonton Eskimos, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Washington Redskins again. He is doing pretty well now. Or take their current kicker - Suisham - first cut by Steelers and then released by Cowboys three times! As I stated being released could be a red flag for a player, but I would not assume that a young player can have no future in NFL simply because he was released a couple of time in his first year.

4-12, Warner tore ligaments in his non-throwing arm. He might not be out for the season, but there's a fairly great chance he's out this week (esp. if they try to re-attach this week, which kind of makes sense if they want him back his season, or at least not in total pain till he does come back). A QB does have a need for his non-throwing arm, even if its just for flipping the double bird to hometown fans.

This game will be tough, gonna have to gut check to win, like every week will be.
The Cards have squeezed us a few times in recent years: The Boomer game, Jeff Georges second start after beating Rams on Monday Night......

so ratatouille is play QB huh? hmmmmmmmmmmmm honestly it really doesn't matter who's playing for the other team it could be a mouse at this point. this team has shown that they can stop anyone and everyone. "it's the offense stupid"!
Posted by: dealer | October 16, 2007 6:08 PM
Sorry Jack... but I disagree... these shouldn't be major injuries... if we can get by this week with pucillo, demulling and fabini on the right side and be back with rabach, fabini, wade against the pats... it doesn't warrant a giving up a pick for a short term fix...
I think we all agree that we need as many picks as possible... yah 5th, 6th and 7th rounders are iffy, but you never know unless you have them to use... I'm not saying we don't entertain and good possibilities, but this team needs to start thinking more long term the Short term method has gotten us know where in how many years?????
Let's trust JG to determine how critical are depth is...
I'm out...

I know we've committed big $$$ to CP/LB and that LaRon Landry is a stud...but does anyone else regret not having the foresight to draft Adrain Peterson. That kid is going to be absolutely fun to watch fo the next 6-9 years.
Posted by: dchandl3 | October 16, 2007 6:38 PM
I don't like playing the Cardinals (there is a huge downside on a loss, they've sucked for so long. What does that say about your team?).
BUT! I'll take our D against anyone.

Sportsnet reported that Rabach plans to play...please Sweet Jesus let that be true!
Posted by: Lisa | October 16, 2007 6:54 PM
Dchandl3, it is too early to judge. As great as Peterson has been, Landry has also been great. Plus who knows if Peterson would have had the same success by running behind Fabini. Steve Hutchinson is one of the best run blocking guards in the NFL - he is the guy who opened up huge holes for Steven Alexander during his monster season a couple years ago and what has Alexander done since Hutchinson left? I am not suggesting that Peterson would have failed with Redskins, but running behind our makeshift offensive line would have been much tougher.

Did you all hear Cowboys Patrick Crayton's remarks about the Patriots? Crayton said "IF the Patriots make it to AZ (the Super Bowl) we will see them again."
What an idiot....

M,
You're on target, I think.
If we had our starting O Line healthy from day one...We would have beat the Giants, right? And Green Bay, right?
Clinton and Betts would both have big numbers.
Our record would be...(can't say it).
I know thats a lot of IFs, but it's not too farfetched, no?

Jason La Cantreporta writes "If this offensive line has to enter coming weeks with anything close to the unit that closed out this game, though, then I don't want to hear anyone bash this kid no matter what his numbers look like."
It's funny how this idiot reporter will criticize anything and everything about the Redskins, but will stand up for the guys he likes. He hates Gibbs and the coaches and has no respect for any of them, and his reporting reflects that. He loves Campbell and his reporting reflects that as well.
What is most comical, is that he will defend Campbell for the very same reasons he is attacking the rest of the team (injuries to the O-line). He gives Campbell a pass because, he says, of the injuries to the O-lineman. But he will not give a pass to the rest of the offense, even though they are the ones dealing with the injuries as well.
Bottom line, La Cantreporta is done covering this team after this season (and hopefully gone from this town after this season as well).

100% agree. Get rid of La Canfora PLEASE. He is the lousiest reporter I can ever recall covering the Skins. He thinks he always has to give his opinion, but the problem is his opinions are simply ridiculous most of the time.
Bring back Mark Maske PLEASE!

Jack,
I'm a little late catching up, but I agree with Greg from Boston. Trading for a 1st day pick for an olineman could be a Duckett situation all over again.
They need to make due with what they have.

How's everyone ....been awhile....tuff one to take sunday, the old snatched defeat from the jaws of victory....Just a case of a team trying to take the next step...the way this league is now (esp nfc) its all right in front of us if we can learn to finish....in order for that to happen we have to have our "differernce makers" make a play some where in the game to keep the momentum from changing to the other side... that play could be a third down pass/ run/ catch that keeps a drive alive or it could be an obvious big play...point is to make a play ,and have it be made by one of the leaders of your team .....all good teams consistently have play makers who step up....to get to the top level we need this..

anon - Skylarking is basically just acting the fool. Thought it would be a term used over there, guess not.
Posted by: kost52 | October 16, 2007 8:50 PM
Stumped, even with all the "ifs," this is not far fetched at all. In fact, Fox Sports had a good assessment in their power rankings this morning of what happened and what could have happened this season and I quote:
Tough loss for the Redskins on Sunday, as Washington had more yards, more first downs and five more minutes of possession than the Packers in a 17-14 loss at Lambeau. Washington's D put the clamps on the Packers' high-powered offense. The 'Skins picked Favre off twice, sacked the ageless quarterback three times and held the running backs to just 56 yards on the ground. But it wasn't enough in the end. Washington's two losses -- against the Packers and the Giants in Week 3 -- were both games the Redskins could have won. At 3-2, they're in the hunt. But they're truly just a few plays away from being 5-0.
Posted by: M | October 16, 2007 8:56 PM
Jack,
We respect your opinion, but my opinion is that you are not smart and should not be a GM...even on Madden.
Here are my reasons...
1) It will take at least 2 weeks for even an all pro O-lineman to get the offense.
2) We need receivers to catch the balls and running backs to hold onto the ball.
3) The O-line did not lose that game.
4) None of our depth lineman have season ending injuries.
5) Betts will leave Washington and rush for 1,500 yards while Portis will be a shell of his 2005 self. Portis is a baller but his preseason was mishandled

Hey Jack...
Maybe Anthony Munoz is available. Let's cut Samuels to create a roster spot for him.
Posted by: sicwidit | October 16, 2007 9:11 PM
While I agree we have problems on the O-Line at the moment, I don't think a trade is the answer.
In my opinion, a trade now, would be short term gain, for long term pain.

Does anyone have any idea if JLC is skating on thin ice with the Post?
Seems like the public feuds (i.e. w/ gibbs, dan stein) are not reflecting very well, his penchant for starting controversies and such aren't how a journalist wants to disguish himself, etc...
Is he really toast at the Post after this season?
Posted by: Jimbo | October 16, 2007 9:20 PM
kost, the nice thing about the Aussie Press is that -- when they need a picture to go along with the story -- are unafraid to have Superintendent Harry "Snapper" Organs holding up the underwear in question.
Thank goodness he held it skidmark-side away.
