Santana and Antwaan Feeling Better

Hey there, working on the Monday Afternoon H-Back and will get it up soon. A lot of kudos to go around and also running around doing a ton of interviews out here all morning, so not able to sit down at the computer for more than 5 minutes at a time.

Anyway, Santana (groin) said he feels great after working out hard yesterday in pregame warmups and then again running routes this morning. Very enthused. Said earlier in his career he may have pushed really hard to play against the Lions but his past injury history and his belief in his teammates prompted him to turn his attention to Green Bay.

Moss said he plans to practice Wednesday and will just continue to do more day by day.

Randle El said his hamstring is feeling okay and he expects to play Sunday. He may be limited in practice as a precaution. He felt the hamstring flare up on his way to the end zone on that 37-yard slant - "That's why I didn't score," Randle El said - but was moving pretty well today and his treatment is going well.

Marcus Washington (hamstring) also expects to play. Phillip Daniels has his right shoulder in a sling after spraining/separating it, and said he will probably miss some practice but feels much better today than he thought he would and didn't even need pain killers to get through the night, which is obviously a good sign for him.

Have not seen Smoot yet, but that pretty much covers the injury that the team released Sunday. So far, so good.

Great News!

Posted by: Anonymous | October 8, 2007 12:53 PM

Great game all around! I guess nobody has interviewed Carlos yet in order not to jinx him. I'm humbled by the success of the cover two -- but I still say it works best when combined with some sort of press coverage on the outside.

Green Bay will be a real test. Who knew going in that the Lions-Pack-Cards would seem like murderer's row. Luck of the draw, I guess, 'cause the Giants are playing patsies.

Go Buffalo! (at least for now)

Good to hear so many of the guys talking upbeat about injuries. I thinka big win like that takesthe sting out many a nagging injury. Now the hard part of the season begins,5 out 7 on the road will prove if the team has the right stuff.

Posted by: Gary | October 8, 2007 12:53 PM

How is the receiver's shin doing? I hope he didn't strain it after catching that pass yesterday.

Posted by: David | October 8, 2007 12:56 PM

That's a relief. Progress for Santana (ready to go Sunday!) and a less-than-dire outlook for ARE, means McCardell and Thrash can continue to be solid compliments.

They look like they'll be great in that role but relying on them as #1 & #2 week in and week out would be setting us up for a receiving letdown.

Posted by: redskirt | October 8, 2007 12:57 PM

I'll deride the Receiver as much as anyone when he's crapping out on routes and making asinine comments about "growing up next year," but if the guy actually gains us some yards on his one look & catch of the game, I'll take those, too.

Maybe they should kick him in the shin this week, too.

Posted by: redskirt | October 8, 2007 1:01 PM

Since the skins won I am so glad they held out Santana....we obviously didn't need him, he can heal for future big games and it allowed other recievers (although not THE) to get reps, confidence and time with JC...

I am loving the Keenen move. We need a wiley route running Vet. Practiced for 3 days and he had two big 1st down producing catches. All the news from camp is that his routes are gaining JCs confidence...

Maybe it was actually his butt that he got kicked in?

Posted by: Rich from Salisbury | October 8, 2007 1:08 PM

Mr. La Canfrona;
Can you, in your interviews, talk to whomever is in charge of replays at the stadium. Why, oh why, do we not get a replay of the Portis fumble, albeit legitimate? However, we get a great replay of the Thrash return which prompted the Lions to through the challenge flag.
I'm all for the skins making a profit but at the game I want to see replays of close plays instead of Coke commercials. For the price I paid for tickets, I think I deserve it!!!

Posted by: sopplayer | October 8, 2007 1:09 PM

Maybe they should kick him in the shin this week, too.

Maybe if they pushed him down a flight of stairs he'd catch a TD pass.

Posted by: Megskin | October 8, 2007 1:10 PM

I say still F Bloyd..

On his one catch he crumpled before getting hit. Most other recievers have a move to get that first down, also remember that set us up for that third and 1 we didnt make (the challenge/bad spot one) that forced a punt and was one of the moments that if Detroit didnt suck they could have clawed back into game.....

cL, what a huge freakin' surprise that the dude who loves the Skins crocs also loves the yellow laces!

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | October 8, 2007 1:12 PM

sopplayer, I heard somewhere that it's against league rules to replay controversial plays on the stadium's big screen?

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | October 8, 2007 1:14 PM

Great news on the injury front. Man, this Monday is just getting better and better.

Now to cap it off with a Bills' victory...

Posted by: Cindy's boy toy | October 8, 2007 1:14 PM

chris larry: Megskin...I too LOVE the yellow laces.

Now all he needs to do is change them up for red ones and then the week after next mix 'em up.

Posted by: Megskin | October 8, 2007 1:15 PM

I think the Skins have a good chance to beat the Packers...Once again they get a pass first team with little or no run game. The Packers' O-line is better than the Lions, but if we can get pressure from the front four then we'll have a chance.

Posted by: sicwidit | October 8, 2007 1:16 PM

I gotta give credit to Philip Daniels... He's not a superstart but a humble solid contributor and a warrior. He always seems to be banged up in one way or another, but finds the will and strength to play through it... Much respect.

Oh - It's a good thing he hasn't got any Chin problems or he could be out for several weeks...

BTW - Is it just me or does Philip Daniels look like he put on more muscle this offseason. Man, he looks big! SJK'n Guns!

GREAT WIN and the Carlos Rogers pick for a TD was just frsoting on the cake... It was nice to not suffer through another nail-biter... We finally put a team away! Very Nice. Here's to carrying this momentum up to Lambeau this weekend!

HAIL!

Sop,

They will not play legitimate fumbles on the big board in the stadium if it will help the officials rule against the skins. After seeing that Thrash clearly didnt' step out they showed that one.

So anyone else concerned that Bubba isn't doing his job correctly. at least 4 hammies.... that's not good. I think those are on bubba.

thoughts?

Agree with your assessment of the Pack's O, but...

1. Pack's D is nasty
2. Game's on the road

If the Skins can back up this week's performance with a win next Sunday, they're for real and also NFC central division champs ;)

REDSKINS WILL BE 14-2! AND WILL ONLY LOOSE TO THE PATRIOTS.

Good to hear the news out of the park is looking positive towards all the boo-boos!

Loved seeing the skins managed to soundly defeat a team it should have beaten.

"Phillip Daniels has his right shoulder in a sling after spraining/separating it, and said he will probably miss some practice but feels much better today than he thought he would and didn't even need pain killers to get through the night, which is obviously a good sign for him."

So, who's using those leftover painkillers? Dibs!

Posted by: Rush Limbuagh | October 8, 2007 1:33 PM

I could see us beating the pack and pats and losing to Zona...that's how we roll.

The Packers are very one dimensional and I believe our D can play well against the Packers O. As proven yesterday, if you keep it close Favre gets antsy and will force throws.

Our O won't have the game they had yesterday but I think they may do ok. ARE continues to gain confidence as does Cambell. If McCardell can be the wiley veteran who pokes holes in the deep mid zone it will open up some cushion for Cooley and help our O tremendously.

We can very easily lose to the Packers but I don't think they are superior to the skins. This, like so many games in the NFL, will probably be more about the team that finds a way to lose than the team that finds a way to win.

Posted by: Go skins Go | October 8, 2007 01:21 PM

I have been wondering about all the sore hammies, too. Do you think it is an overly cautious approach by the organization holding players out of games (even though Moss said he held himself out)?

I remember Gary Clark playing entire seasons with a sore groin. I realize hammies and groins are different injuries, but still...

Posted by: Cindy's boy toy | October 8, 2007 1:39 PM

Go skins Go,

I'm not sure if I would put this on Bubaa Tyer. He is the team physician and is there to diagnose and help solve their physical ailments. And yes along with that comes his expertise and ability to suggest changes in what they do to prevent or minmize their potential for injury.

I put this on the Strength and Conditioning Trainers and the payers themselves. Hamstring type injuries should be much more preventable then what the Skins have displayed. I agree that there shouldn't be this many and they really need to analyze the way these players are stretching, warming up and staying loose throughtout practice and games. They definitely need to address this and attempt to improve. This COULD BE a a lack of complete commitment to conditioning on their part. B Mitch pointed this our on the Post Game show when they were talking to McCardell... He kind of joked saying to Keenan, "Can you get your Stretching Guy to help some of these younger guys because you've been in the league for 16 years and never had andy major hammy isses..." Basically, calling them out as if they're not preapring properly...

Now I've never been a explosive profesional athlete with their strength and abilities, so I'm not really the one to say what they should be doing... just my 2 cents...

Posted by: E in VB | October 8, 2007 1:40 PM

from Steinberg's blog - Smoot talking about his shoulder

"Yeah, it came out, making a tackle, I threw it back in," he told me. "That happens to a lot of us. That's an every-day thing. Don't you get a writer's cramp right there?" he said, pointing to his right hand. "Don't your hand start [hurting] right there? I probably couldn't take that. It came out of place and then they put it back in. I'm good now."

Smoot, baby, you would fail miserably having to deal with the sore fingers I get on the keyboard at my job. Stick to football.

Posted by: Cindy's boy toy | October 8, 2007 1:46 PM

Since I was one of the big downers after the Giants game, let me say yesterday was a great win. That is probably the best coaching job the staff had done since JG 2.0 started. They had a game plan, stuck to it, even when they were up by 14 at the half. They used Sellers on short yardage plays , kept going downfield in the 2nd half, and put a team away.

That said, let us see how they do this week. Not the Green Bay is a great team, but because the Redskins are coming off a great win and only one week to prepare.

And, as always BOYCOTT THE MERCHANDISE!

Posted by: Lee | October 8, 2007 1:48 PM

Lee,

What's that all about? "Boycott the Merchandise"?

Posted by: E in VB | October 8, 2007 1:51 PM

"Pete Kendall on the large bags of ice affixed to three joins (right knee, right elbow, left knee).

" 'Everything's fine," he said. "Preventative maintenance.' "

Love it. Like an oil change every 3 months.

E in VB,

I'm one of those that does not like the current ownership/management situation on the team, and feel that The Danny doesn't care about winning and losing as long as he makes money. (even now, he is in his secret lair with Vinny trying to figure out how to make money off of those people that take the Metro and walk to the Stadium). Boycotting the merchandise is the only language he understands. Love the team, bleed Burgandy & Gold, and hate what he has done to the team I love.

Posted by: Lee | October 8, 2007 1:57 PM

I see your point, I guess what I'm trying to say is that who ever is in charge of 'stretching' the guys out isn't doing there job correctly. I thought it was bubba, but I guess its not. Who ever it is, needs to stretch'm harder.

Posted by: Go skins Go | October 8, 2007 2:12 PM

I agree with you E in VB about the strength and condtioning, Ive never scene this many muscle pulls in a matter of a couple weeks as I have with this team. they must not be doing something right in warm ups.

Posted by: SAK | October 8, 2007 2:27 PM

Glad to hear the guys are feeling fine.

On a side note, I too have boycotted and am no longer purchasing Redskins merchandise until they win another Super Bowl!!!
And I wonder how THE DANNY feels now that the Cowboys have overtaken the 'Skins as the most profitable franchise in the NFL.
