Colin Cowherd was on the radio this morning(this is word for word) saying that Taylor was a thug and that you could take the kid out of the hood,but not the hood out of the kid.He went on to say that the people on redskins official message board, extremeskins are redskins geeks and didn't know taylor for who he truely was a (a thug in his opinion)(many of us didnt but we know who he was more than cowherd did).

even the ESPN coverage has been lame

while Taylors past incident MIGHT have played a role it might not have,and it seems they'd rather talk about a muddy field than somthing that transcend sports and goes right to life.

Anyone know why all Sean Taylor jersey sales have been shut down? My bro is looking for one to remember him by and can't find it anywhere. I've seen the t-shirts, those are nice and I'm planning on getting a few, but I was hoping I could find one for him. It seems like no site is selling them other than e-bay, and e-bay just feels... wrong. Are they withholding selling them for a reason?

I got the chance to read Mike Wise's obituary today to my two reading classes. I started both my classes yesterday with a comment about Sean Taylor's death and how sad it was. I was really impressed with the maturity of my classes (although they really thought the word "obituary" was funny) and some of them were Redskins fans. It was a great opportunity to talk about decision making and how things they do now (6th grade) can have ramifications in the future. I was able to express how tragic a death this was because Sean Taylor was starting to make better decisions with his life (according to anyone and everyone that knew him) and was a different person from a couple of years ago. The students really got interested in it and I hopeful that it touched their hearts. Mike Wise did a great job.

jarc184, I agree with you. Cowherd's comments are baseless and the result of shoddy journalism, much like the rest of ESPN's coverage has been regarding Sean's death. ESPN, as a sports network, should have been all over this story from the get-go, examining all the angles, talking to players and coaches, like Jasno has done for us (good job Jasno, by the way). But no - they took the easy way out. They seized on the "thug life" angle and ran with it, basing their reporting on incidents that happened a year ago or more. They never bothered to ask anyone who was truly close to Sean what kind of a person he really was; they just assumed that his past transgressions told them all they needed to know. And on top of that, they didn't even deem the shooting or his death to be all that important. He's a nationally known football player who was gunned down in his own home, in his bedroom, in the middle of the night! How is that not important to a sports network!

Oy. I'm still trying to get my head around this whole thing. It feels like a bad nightmare that won't end when I open my eyes. I know Sean had his troubles, but I am so sick of every news article about his death talking about charges made against him two years ago, and the drunk driving charge (which by the way, he was acquitted of, for lack of evidence), and skipping the rookie symposium, and all that. Are people not allowed to change? Are we all doomed to be defined by what we did in our early 20's? Had he lived even another 20 years, those things would have been a mere footnote to his life and career, not the focus of it. Unfortunately he died at the tender age of 24, but NOT before he decided to make some changes in his life for the better. That's how I choose to remember Sean. As a preternaturally talented athlete, but also as a man who loved his girlfriend and his baby daughter, a man who realized he was headed down a bad path and consciously chose to turn from that path and get his life together, a man who friends, coaches, teammates, family and neighbors all describe as courteous, pleasant, and kind, and a man who finally found his faith and did not hesitate to thank God for his good fortune. That's the Sean Taylor I choose to remember. That's the Sean Taylor we all should remember.

My guess is that they put a moratorium on the jersey sales temporarily. The team shouldn't give the impression that they're trying to make a buck off this tragedy.

Eventually, I wouldn't be surprised if they sell his jersey to fans like you who would like to remember him. But it's a delicate issue and a little awkward for the team.

I just read in the miami herald that the service will be on Monday, at 11:00 on the FIU Campus. But there is discussion that it will move to Tuesday

i second the motion to start a petition to get rid of cowherd. The man has demonstrated no class whatsoever and it sickens me that he is getting paid for these ridiculous comments. ESPN, you should be ashamed to have Cowherd on your payroll and he must be fired to save face.
