University of Miami Alumni Plans
Jason, driving home from the TV studio, asked me to post this for him. It's from the University of Miami's alumni group:
Dear Alumni Community,
The University of Miami Alumni Association is deeply saddened by the loss of alumnus Sean Taylor. As many of you already know, Sean was the victim of a tragic act of violence in his home earlier this week. He was a safety on the Hurricanes football team from 2001 to 2003 and became a star player with the Washington Redskins. Sean was beloved by countless 'Canes, colleagues, and fans throughout the community and across the nation.
We have received numerous email inquires about activities being held in his honor. Please find below the latest information regarding memorial services for Sean.
-- Friday, the UM Student Government had students sign a banner in the University Center Breezeway that will be given to the Taylor family.
--There will be a public viewing from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Second Baptist Church, 11111 Pinkston Drive in Richmond Heights.
-- A candlelight vigil on Sunday at 6 p.m. at the University of Miami outside the BankUnited Center, following the UM men's basketball game.
-- At Sunday's men's basketball game and football banquet and awards ceremony, a moment of silence will be observed in Sean's memory.
-- Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Pharmed Arena at Florida International University's University Park campus, 11200 SW Eighth Street. It is open to the public. Services will be followed by a burial at Caballero Rivero, 11655 SW 117th Avenue. We ask all members of the alumni family to wear orange and green in honor of Sean.
--The University appreciates your concern for the Taylor family and we will all continue to keep his family and friends in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I just got home from work and the RIP 21 shirt from cafepress was waiting for me. Kudos to Bucktown Skinsfan. The shirt and pin look awesome. I will be wearing it proudly on Sunday. For anyone that is thinking about getting one, I ordered mine on Tuesday with overnight shipping, so if you want it by the Thursday game vs the Bears, you should probally order it by Monday. Again, Bucktown, you did a great job and that is very cool that you are donating all proceeds to charity.

I know this is off topic but it's been on my mind and I need to get this off my chest.
In light of the investigators' suspicions that ST was murdered in a random act, I think it's time for Wilbon and Shapiro to recant and apologize. Shapiro and Wilbon intimated that ST somehow 'brought this on himself' because he 'embraced the criminal elements'.
Wilbon, as far as this situation is concerned, you're an idiot. Shapiro, you followed Wilbon's lead, so that makes you a sycophantic idiot. I was dismayed, disappointed, and ashamed at what you wrote a couple of days ago, Wilbon. I hope your words haunt you for the rest of your days as a journalist. On the day ST was murdered, your thirst for sensationalistic journalism led you to make derogatory comments about a young man that had done no wrong.
Let's hope you have the guts to acknowledge your mistake. Hopefully, your bootlick (Shapiro) will follow your lead again and do the same.
Rest in peace, Sean. I wish that I could apologize for everyone who looked at a few transgressions that you made years ago and prejudged you, suggesting that your death was an inevitable consequence of a 'thuggish' lifestyle. Know that not all of us are so shortsighted and irresponsible. No one deserves to die protecting their family as you did and then have their character assassinated a few hours later. You died way too young and we'll miss you. Rest in peace, Sean.
