Even More Playoffs
Check out my man Ken's site. This dude is all over the playoff possibilities. Some of this is over my head, but it looks pretty cool and I stand behind it 100 percent, even if the math is over my head.
http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NFL/NFC/East/Redskins.html
Bottom line is that pre-Saints/Falcons the Skins had about a 20 percent chance of getting in, but the way he breaks down the impact each game has that percentage is pretty wild.

Beat the Giants, beat the Vikings and beat the Cowboys.
Good plan

How crazy is it that we are in the position to potentially "control our own destiny"? I am a believer and think we can eek into that number 6 spot!
Posted by: suzannepdc | December 11, 2007 8:34 AM
Oh and I am pretty sure that the Giants, Dallas and Detroit did not have the 21 sticker - I actually noticed it because the Eagles did and they didn't - I guess it was up to the discretion of each team - which sickens me to think that someone actually went through and took them off the helmets. I actually give the Pats a pass, since they have been wearing the number of their old teammate that died over the offseason.
Posted by: suzannepdc | December 11, 2007 8:40 AM
Your not crazy suz;
We did it two years ago. Anything is possible in the NFL, that is why we LOVE IT SOOO MUCH!!!
Posted by: Zebraskins | December 11, 2007 8:44 AM
suzannepdc, somewhere on the Uni Watch blog it was mentioned that the only previous example anyone could think of where one player was memorialized by the entire league on their uniforms was Pat Tillman, and that was only for one week's games.
I would guess that memorializing Sean with the #21 helmet stickers for that one weekend's games (the weekend immediately after he passed) was the only league-wide observance, though even that was probably not "mandatory." Anything beyond that would be at the team's or the individual player's discretion.
In any case, WE are never going to forget, and it will be interesting to see how the Skins remember Sean beyond this season.

The Skins playoff hopes rely(ed) on guys named, Todd Collins, Kyle Orton, and Tavrious Jackson and Redman....
weird
Lets just win this week in the hated meadowlands (which is a horrible game day experience by the way, even the old Philly Vet was better) and take it from there....

The Saints have a pretty easy schedule - that scares me. With the Cards also battling for that last spot, maybe they will give the Saints a battle...

A distinct possibility, but I've already figured out a way around it: Don't allow any sacks.
And you DIDN'T read the other posts yesterday? Are you SERIOUS? The Inside Joke Council strongly urges you to rethink that track.

I like the Cardinals next weekend. Despite the score, I wasn't all that impressed with NO last night. They were beneficiaries of Atlanta's....trying to say something nice....uh.....they were beneficiaries of playing the Atlanta Falcons.
I also don't think the Bears will lay down for the Saints in Week 17. Lovie & Co. will not want to end the season at home on a loss.
Posted by: freakzilla | December 11, 2007 9:20 AM
Before anyone get to worried about the Saints remember they were playing the Falcons last night with an insurance salesman as a QB

Nah, freedom125's just thinking ahead. Unless Chris "Brunswick Bowling Ball" (Bruntodd?) Samuels manages to find a way to low-bowl through the depth charts at defensive tackles of the next three teams, the Toddernaut might be Post Toddsties by week 17....

F Playoff talks until after this game. We must 1st beat the Giants.
One game at a time. Don't let the media swell your head. Beat the Giants 1st and then maybe we could talk playoffs.

Todd damn it, all I know is we need to take this ragtag group of misfits and underachievers to that ridiculous dump in the swamp and win this freakin' game Sunday.
We can do it. We gave them that game in week three, at our place, and it proved to be the catalyst in their season. Okay. Time to return the favor.
HAIL!
Posted by: NateinthePDX | December 11, 2007 10:09 AM
Couple things, regarding this coming Sunday's game with NY. Seems like Philly had good success running the ball. The Times listed a number of ideas, regarding jump starting the running game, giving Betts more chances, simply blocking better, opening up with 4 wides. They all sound pretty good.
Also, was on the extreme site last night, and one guy broke down all the running plays, and according to what he saw, the majority of the times Portis got the ball, he was getting hit in the backfield.
For what it's worth.....
Posted by: gregmarino88 | December 11, 2007 10:13 AM
I know we need to see a heavy dose of Cooley this week and not just in the first half
Posted by: trailblazer658 | December 11, 2007 10:14 AM
Greg, that may be because the majority of the time Portis is on the field it's a run play.
If the Skins use "pass to set up the run" more often - even just with screens - they won't be able to key on Portis' presence in the backfield. Collins has a really quick release, use that to make them respect the pass and stop stuffing 8 guys in te box all game.
IMHO Skins play-calling has to be less pedestrian with Collins on the field.

I hope Todd can take us to the Toddoffs!!!!!
Posted by: redryan400 | December 11, 2007 10:29 AM
Unlike my view of the Toddaclysm that the coaching staff has done by not letting Soups start passing a bit more frequently, I think keeping Portis ahead of Betts was a good idea on the staff's part. Perhaps in regards to actual rushing, Betts might be marginally ahead, but given the Suishy-washy play of our patchwork offensive line, Portis' much more physical blocking ability is sorely needed.
And frankly, even with the Bears missing the better half of their defensive tackle depth, we didn't manage Toddwash with the rushing game on Thursday. I don't think we can even rely on the rushing game to make yardage and scoring for the team against any substantial defense - even if it was the 8-pound, 6-ounce baby Jesus Todd running the ball for us.
Posted by: FlimFlam | December 11, 2007 10:30 AM
Mo' money, mo' problems.
Mo' ToddCollins, mo' playoff berths.
Posted by: trink | December 11, 2007 10:33 AM
With Todd todding instead of Soups, we'll have to make sure the line todds better, because Todd is not that mobile. That eliminates a lot of the deep todds, because the New Jersey Giants have a good d-line. However, Todd is really accurate in the short todds, much more than Soups, and we can certainly use that to our advantage. Add in a few screen todds, and an occasional todd action, and we could wreak havoc.
are the skins gonna win???
TODDALLY!!!

5 yards on toddcoat for not using Todd when saying Collins in his previous post and then having to post a second time.

Flag picked up due to the fact we now have a toddimatum and every extra post counts.

Posted by: SAK2 | December 11, 2007 10:56 AM
jints aren't in yet....not at all.
they got Skins, Bills, Patriots. the easiest game out of those 3 will probably be against Buffalo, who happens to be a team in the thick of playoff contention in the AFC.
if the giants lose all 3, they lose ALL tiebreakers to Saints, Vikings, as well as our Skins.
Giants will be fired up for this game, but we gotta come out with some bigtime intensity.
Posted by: student1234 | December 11, 2007 10:58 AM
The Giants rush D is good:
96.1 y/g
3.9 y/c
7 TDs
7 of 20+ y
1 40+ y
I think from looking at their D stats on nfl.com that the one area where they seem to be particularly susceptible is to the big pass. They have given up 37 pass plays of 20+ yards (which ranks them 20th in the nfl) and 9 plays of 40+ (30th). That's almost 1 40+ pass play per game and almost 3 plays of 20+ per game. Todd is gonna need to make the big play when it's there. Todd willing.

Again, hate to be the pessimist but Todd's arm doesn't look any stronger than Mark Brunell's. Against a good team that bites, we could easily see one going the other way. Then again, Trent Green has never been mistaken for Elway. Myabe there's something to this timing thing, after all.

Since Eloy has been with the Gnats, they have consistently collpased in the second half of the season, so his history is horrible.
They seem like they are just about holding it together this year, but it's mostly abou their defense and running game, not about our Eli.
And Todd.
Posted by: toddcoat | December 11, 2007 11:26 AM
I must say that I've loved the Toddversation lately along with back and Todd. Most excited about getting two primetime games in a row. Don't get to see too many Toddskins games in Boston.
Posted by: BCBarney | December 11, 2007 11:27 AM
Eli is worse towards the end of the year when it gets cold out, remember he played college ball (Old miss) where it doesnt get very cold. And the more pressure you put on him the more he crumbles.
Eli is not Todd. And thank Todd, Todd is no eli either.
Posted by: SAK2 | December 11, 2007 11:28 AM
The biggest challenge is finding someone to beat New Orleans. I think like others Arizona has the best chance. Kurt Warner is a indoor quarterback. The Giants are
tanking out, Minnesota was pathetic against
San Franciso, and Dallas will not bring any pads to the Season Final. A win against
Seattle or Tampa Bay will be there Super Bowl. The New York,Philadelphia, and Buffalo are the official losses to look back when playoff hopes disappear. The club
has a bright future, but probably no Gibbs. How about Bill Cowher????
