Inactives/Other Stuff
Injured QB Jason Campbell, WR Anthony Mix, CB John Eubanks (infected toe), TE Brian Kozlowski, LB Randall Godfrey, C Mike Pucillo, and DL Ryan Boschetti are inactive.
For the Giants, return specialist David Tyree is a late scratch after his mother died of a heart attack Saturday night.
The Skins cannot be eliminated from the playoffs no matter what happens tonight. However, if they lose the Carolina Panthers would pass Washington on the playoff ladder, as the Panthers (6-8) have a better NFC record. With the Saints (7-7) winning, Skins fans need to root for them to lose at least one of the final two games (vs. Philly, at Chicago).

not sure I've ever seen something like w-brook just did. . .
I understand trying to run down the clock . . .
Posted by: skinsfan8KaboveMSL | December 16, 2007 7:21 PM
Westbrook downing the ball on the 1 is a weird play. Wouldn't you take the points there?
Posted by: PDiddy | December 16, 2007 7:21 PM
While I think I should be lauding Westbrook for his selflessness, I think he'd have been better off taking the TD that would have made it a two-possession game. So what if you give the Cowboys a chance to score? That hasn't exactly worked out well for them....
And, if you've got Westbrook in fantasyland, I'm guessing you're saying bad words right now.
Posted by: TheCindy | December 16, 2007 7:23 PM
Troy really seemed to lie Westbrook's play.. .
Posted by: sherryz710 | December 16, 2007 7:23 PM
curious to see if he figured taht out on his own or if it is something that was disccussed. . .
pretty much turned out to be a check mate . . .
Posted by: skinsfan8KaboveMSL | December 16, 2007 7:24 PM
Obviously, it worked...but strange.
Vegas had the game as Dallas by 10, so that wasn't an issue...
Posted by: PDiddy | December 16, 2007 7:24 PM
I just hope Romo brings Jessica to DC with him for our game. He plays terribly with a girlfriend in the stands.

Posted by: SMACK1 | December 16, 2007 7:28 PM

Posted by: sherryz710 | December 16, 2007 7:29 PM
Lisa,
Let's call and invite her!
Posted by: mmok | December 16, 2007 7:31 PM
I have a pretty good idea where Jessica could sit, just in case they have trouble finding her a seat for the game.
Posted by: PDiddy | December 16, 2007 7:32 PM
Alright, David Garrard's post-game press conference outfit is OUTSTANDING. Best since Deion.
Posted by: PDiddy | December 16, 2007 7:35 PM
Slightly different situation but probably relevant, think back to the Eagles Skins game that the Eagles won. They Eagles were up 1 and instead of running out the clock, the Skins let Westbrook go right through for the score. Since it was an 8 pt game, it was an especially poor decision as it give us new life. Since this score would have made it a 2 possession game, it is highly unlikely that the girls would have comeback. But going down at the one ends the game barring a kneeling fumble.

As a newly liberated ex-Skins fan, I can not wait for the contest this evening.
I was born in Georgetown hospital in October 1967 and bled burgundy and gold until today.
I have rationalized, empathized,...etc.. to keep my faith.
I finally do not have the spirit to make it work anymore. Why? Caring needs to be mirrored. Our owner is an individual that lacks the intensity of my reflection. I will not pretend to venture into this individuals internal dialogue.
While that prattle is neither here nor there, when it comes to the trading of capital for product, a choice is made.
As anyone that watched the film a 'beatiful mind' and got the concept of "equilibrium" (i was an economics major) an imbalance is is an anomaly and will be corrected.
As my detractors will have fun with this, I challenge anyone to go toe to toe with me in an intellectual argument and see who the fool is.

has detroit played someone that they haven't given up 50+ points against?
this was a mid season playoff team???
Adam

Norv's boys rung up 51 points! Sure, they were playing the Lions, but ... 51!

That Dallas loss actually hurts the Skins. The girls may be having to play for home field advantage in two weeks. Not good.

You love to think I am full of sh*t. Others want to see what they want to see.
You are a fool. And yes, I should not have posted again, but due to the pervasive obnoxious dunderheadedness, this last one will finish it off.
The undeniable pervasive theme and tone set forth by the majority of individuals within this mini society, prone and pathetically lacking in any insightfulness or just plain intellectual honesty is patent embarassment.
Yes, this is an indictment upon you. What I have always found most troubling and why I am leaving, is the pure lack of thoughtfulness.
Even worse, peole such as you will rationalize that I am just n "idiot."
Reality, youhave never had any idea who I am.

As for the your final post pronouncement and retraction, how could someone as intellectually superior as yourself put yourself in a position where calling others hypocrites would force you to contradict your original statement and force you to be hypocritical?

Cindy, can we get a text from Jasno about the temperature in the stadium? Wind speed?

No sweat, sherry. Again, I find it really touching because I have been meeting fellow Skins fans via this very blog for some time now. In Portland and elsewhere. It was weird at first... even more so for my wife.
Is the wind going to be for us or agin' us in the second quarter?
Posted by: NateinthePDX | December 16, 2007 9:11 PM
This is not a snore fest. This is lust for mayhem. LBM's head has been a split second away from being removed for something like nine plays.

sween, you read my mind re: stadium conditions.
Cindy, I was going to ask if you knew what the Swamplands press box situation is like.
To continue with my theme of separate but unequal, I like to think of Boz and Wize in a luxury sweet, quaffing champagne and getting shoulder massages whilst swapping stories with Lupica and the other NYC sports page bigwigs.
While the Jasons sit at the very top of the stadium, in an open-air box with an obstructed view, directly under a speaker blaring nonstop Bon Jovi. And Steinbog just keeps stamping his feet out in the parking lot, trying to warm him hands on the dying coals of a long-gone tailgater's grill.
Posted by: NateinthePDX | December 16, 2007 9:17 PM
that BEAUTIFUL punt by Feegles? THAT was into the wind.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:17 PM
Todd Collins 0/8 0 yards
E. Manning 2/10 13 yards
....still a statistical dead heat!

I'm guarding the Toddwagon for jumpers-on after that reception!
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:19 PM
collins busting it open now
Posted by: hailbg | December 16, 2007 9:20 PM
Holy crap!
Posted by: NateinthePDX | December 16, 2007 9:20 PM
the todds are off the hook
Posted by: spotter | December 16, 2007 9:20 PM
Todd Collins 1/9, 36 yards
E. Manning 2/10, 13 yards
Todd's kicking Eli's butt!!
Posted by: Alan4 | December 16, 2007 9:20 PM
YODER!
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:21 PM
Now don't everybody jump on at the same time. That's a sensitive area and we need Todd for the stretch run.
Posted by: learnedhand1 | December 16, 2007 9:21 PM
red zone lets get 7, not 3 please!
Posted by: lurgee5177 | December 16, 2007 9:21 PM
Clinton slipped on the first one. The second one was OK. Todd time.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:21 PM
sucky.
Posted by: dwdjmu | December 16, 2007 9:22 PM
IT was there for Cooley. [Unfortunately, Todd can lob.] Nice kick.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:22 PM
We still can't score touchdown in the redzone!
Posted by: ceevans | December 16, 2007 9:23 PM
Swish!
Posted by: NateinthePDX | December 16, 2007 9:23 PM
These are not ideal conditions for passing the football. You all are a tough crowd.
Posted by: learnedhand1 | December 16, 2007 9:24 PM
imagine if the skins could have scored touchdowns on half of the occassions they've had to settle for 3.
magical.
Posted by: dwdjmu | December 16, 2007 9:25 PM
This game is going down like every Redskins game...
2 Field Goals
Defense will give up a big play before half time
Goes into Half time down 7-6
Posted by: mmz114 | December 16, 2007 9:25 PM
NBC also sez the wind is 24 mph.

My user name says it all on that play.
Posted by: Wemiss21 | December 16, 2007 9:29 PM
Reed Doughty is impressing more and more.
Posted by: trink | December 16, 2007 9:29 PM
LH, give me a break. I'm trying to visualize the game using my admittedly fertile imagination, the commentary up here, the little player head shots on the ESPN "Gamecast," and a radio broadcast which is about fifteen minutes behind and, in any event, features Sam Huff.
Posted by: NateinthePDX | December 16, 2007 9:30 PM
Todd Collins 2/11, 66 yards
E. Manning 3/14, 16 yards
I think Todd's just getting warmed up... he's still kicking Eli's butt, and 10 years *could* put a little rust on your game! Let's see how the next drive goes!
Posted by: Alan4 | December 16, 2007 9:30 PM
I still say the Skins make a move for Rams' FS O.J. Atogwe (RFA). He's beast.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:30 PM
We're a tough, angry crowd.
Posted by: TheCindy | December 16, 2007 9:31 PM
We need a TD
Posted by: jm220 | December 16, 2007 9:31 PM
Come on, you Redskins!
Posted by: NateinthePDX | December 16, 2007 9:33 PM
btw ... that FedEx commercial (yes, the sponsors of our homefield) with Strahan and Umenurine sacking the boxes and kicking one out of the truck (and the boxes are the Skins), I'm thinking I may take my business to Purilator. [or at least my coffee making needs.]
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:34 PM
AWESOME punt coverage!
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:35 PM
Todd is looking more like Brunell.
Posted by: jm220 | December 16, 2007 9:36 PM
I can see we got a five-yd reception when we needed 10, so obviously the route didn't go beyond the freaking sticks... but could one of you tell me whether Moss was AT LEAST running when he caught the ball, meaning Todd hit him in stride?
Ugh. Oh well.
Posted by: NateinthePDX | December 16, 2007 9:36 PM
Maybe we can get the wind to get us a couple of points off a safety.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:36 PM
jm220, you hit the nail on the head: Todd is like a younger version of Brunell.
Posted by: NateinthePDX | December 16, 2007 9:37 PM
Nate, Moss was running and had about 3 after the catch. 45 mph wind.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:38 PM
Nate, are you not getting this on NBC?
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:38 PM
Jasno confirms what the field looked on the closeup of that punt: it's icing up.
Posted by: TheCindy | December 16, 2007 9:39 PM
possibly the worst lyingest spot of the season.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:40 PM
sween, sitting here at the ranch. Timing didn't work out to get to a television before dinner time/kid bedtime. I suck.
You know who else sucks? The Giants.
The Redskins do not suck. Todd does not suck.
Posted by: NateinthePDX | December 16, 2007 9:42 PM
run, run, run, run
Posted by: lurgee5177 | December 16, 2007 9:42 PM
Todd Collins 3/13, 71 yards
E. Manning 4/16, 24 yards
Todd still making looking a little more respectable than Eli...
Skins should get good field position out of this punt.
Posted by: Alan4 | December 16, 2007 9:42 PM
lost oppurtunities as usual.........
Posted by: lurgee5177 | December 16, 2007 9:44 PM
what ranch? no TV? its network. Do they at least have salad dressing at this ranch? what kind?
You missed a 45 pass in Moss' hands (through three receivers) dropped.
then a caught one!

Lovely Lumber by LaRon, but dealing the top card off the deck into Buress is not a good finish.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:56 PM
Cheap shot every week from that punk.
Posted by: gdennie | December 16, 2007 9:56 PM
stupid thug Laron.
if we lose another halftime lead I will be meeting the team bus when they get back.
Posted by: johnw | December 16, 2007 9:57 PM
Landry did not have a cheap shot .. just a taunt.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:58 PM
Note. Taunting also is not thuggery ... its just the enthusiasm of youth.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 9:59 PM
sorry, i missed this one earlier. the only thing you're wrong about is that steinberg is eating a sublime array of cheeses from whole foods.

L2 brings wood. I take the 15.
Posted by: jm220 | December 16, 2007 9:59 PM
laron will learn not to do that.
sean did the same a few seasons ago.
what a shot, though!
Posted by: dwdjmu | December 16, 2007 10:00 PM
St. Joe used the "s" word watching what LaRon did (and that word was neither "swinging" nor "soul").
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 10:00 PM
You guys that think L2 hit was a cheap shot knows nothing about football. That was a nice clean shot.

shaazam for MVP!

Swisssssssham!
Posted by: NateinthePDX | December 16, 2007 10:07 PM
This looks real familiar doesn't it? we get ball to start 2nd half, and I'll say 3 and out, big play Giants and momentum shifts..........but lets hope not.
Posted by: lurgee5177 | December 16, 2007 10:08 PM
nate
first throw was really odd 2 yard cross with zero chance of getting to the end zone
second throw was a desperation heave to avoid a sack
not a good last set of downs, but since the gints didn't have to honor the run, finding the end zone was going to be tough
16-3 Skins
Adam
Posted by: argh | December 16, 2007 10:09 PM
We are up at the half. Now I am really starting to worry about this game.
Posted by: jm220 | December 16, 2007 10:09 PM

time to make the donuts!!
Posted by: lurgee5177 | December 16, 2007 10:09 PM
Halftime stats:
Todd Collins 4/18, 105 yards
E. Manning 6/21, 51 yards
Let's hope the coaching staff doesn't put the cuffs on the offense after halftime... although Portis and Betts seem to be having their way a bit on the ground.

F the Gints! F them all the way to the New Year!!

Hail Skins. Come on!

squashmo he does but it would be nice if he doesn't have to avoid a defender in the backfield. Come O line you guys got to step it up.
Posted by: jm220 | December 16, 2007 10:14 PM
cosma, that he does. The secondary has shown UP! Springs. Huge. Smoot. Huge. Doughty. Large. Landry ... say what you will about the taunt, but Burress has both hands on that ball before he was invited to barf it up by TheRon.

I'm glad they showed that replay of the L2 hit. The winds here have been pretty fierce, off and on, so the power had flickered off and I missed it earlier.
I love that dude.
Posted by: JustMe | December 16, 2007 10:30 PM
Shockey hurt. Interestingly, w/o Rocky, they have Blades in the middle and Fletcher as the weakside backer.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 10:30 PM
honestly this toddernator looks good...
too bad he wasn't the skins qb this season...
and too bad he's 65...
and too bad you need to be 65 to get weird al's system
22-3!!! woohooo...why did they go for 2? it's early third quarter!

Posted by: Wemiss21 | December 16, 2007 10:31 PM
how the heck is blades, a rookie, playing the mike? that's whack, yo
Posted by: hailbg | December 16, 2007 10:32 PM
Shockey looks like he's in a lot of pain.
Posted by: JustMe | December 16, 2007 10:32 PM
Just fiercesome hitting at the line by the Skins. Repeated hits. [If only the first one would actually stop Jacobs.]
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 10:33 PM
I think Blades in the middle has more to do with where he lines up and who his assignment is. Fletcher, I'm sure, is still calling the plays and making the adjustments.
Posted by: Wemiss21 | December 16, 2007 10:33 PM
That sack gets credited to Carter, but its was K.Campbell on the blitz that sent Eli running five yards back before the hit.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 10:34 PM
Now would be time to note that a comma would've been appropriate between the "you know what" and the f%ck you.

How dare you criticize this blog's valedictorian?

funniest line of the nite, collins 6-20 for 139. who would've thunk it?
Posted by: hailbg | December 16, 2007 10:35 PM
yeah justme, that looked like i'm gone for 3/4 weeks or greater face.
also why is there a head still attached to eli's body?
Posted by: dealer | December 16, 2007 10:35 PM
That Marcus/Blades/Fletch was only a couple of packages. They shifted into a 3-4 with K.Campbell in the middle on that last one with the sack.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 10:36 PM
Sweet. This game so far puts Carter at 10.5 sack and 4 forced fumbles for the season. Who was the last Skin with a double digit sack total? Lavar, when Marvin Lewis was the DC, maybe?
Posted by: JustMe | December 16, 2007 10:36 PM
X, all in fun.
I extend the hand of enduring burgundy-and-gold friendship. This is a sweet, sweet evening. For one wee evening, all is swell in Redskins land.

OK. New third quarter adjustment ... the Giants have figured out the draw. Stop doing it for a little while, esp. in SKins territory in what would be Giants redzone.

skins still need to score. the worst thing that could happens is that they go into the run for 1-2 yards on 1st and 2nd and then get stuffed on 3rd and long

this game is nowhere near over - we need to focus in and play a good solid 17 minutes and 24 seconds of football...
Posted by: saranred | December 16, 2007 10:45 PM
Eff.
Posted by: NateinthePDX | December 16, 2007 10:45 PM

Posted by: dwdjmu | December 16, 2007 10:45 PM

Wow, a Cialis ad where the guy's faucet breaks off and starts gushing water. That's gotta hurt.
Posted by: farstriker | December 16, 2007 10:46 PM
And the 2nd-half meltdown begins.....
Posted by: Soups1 | December 16, 2007 10:46 PM
from the film, it looked like Shockey Jansened his ankle.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 10:48 PM
Cartwright looks just a tad slower; probably just end of the season aches and pains...
Posted by: Soups1 | December 16, 2007 10:48 PM
collins has a sexy play action.
Posted by: dwdjmu | December 16, 2007 10:49 PM
Heyer has been handling Strahan ... or Strahan is just getting tired.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 10:49 PM
I'm a bit behind you guys. I've still got a big cheesy grin on my face. My adrenaline boosters must be shot.
Is there cause for concern? I mean, come on, what could go wrong? We're ahead!
By 12 points!
With fewer than 20 minutes to go! (Note the outstanding usage of "fewer" instead of the common but incorrect "less," Xster).
I mean, it's in the bag!!
This is Joe Gibbs we're talking about.
And Todd Collins!
And remember how we dominated them the first game, too! We own them!
. . .
Oh
. . .
Oh sh*t
Posted by: farstriker | December 16, 2007 10:50 PM
chris samuels is a disappointment.
Posted by: dwdjmu | December 16, 2007 10:51 PM

Posted by: jm220 | December 16, 2007 10:51 PM

Posted by: Down777866 | December 16, 2007 10:54 PM
What is up with the freakin' play clock!!?? It has expired like three times on the Giants, including a converted third and 10, with no call!!
Posted by: willjones3 | December 16, 2007 10:56 PM
How bad would it feel to be a Raven today? Toddcoat, you out there? Feel any better?
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 10:56 PM
if skins lose tonite, they don't deserve to make the playoffs and it'll just be emblematic of how the whole season has gone
Posted by: hailbg | December 16, 2007 10:57 PM
They are playing not to lose again instead of fast and loose. They atarted thinking about playoff possibilities and are about to eff this up......
Once again, the curse of Gibbs 2.0
Watch out for the screen pass here....it will be deadly...
Posted by: Soups1 | December 16, 2007 10:57 PM

Portis. Gain of seven. He's like Jacobs, but legit.
Posted by: dcsween | December 16, 2007 11:04 PM
---fantasy interlude---
With the remaining scoring possibilities in the semifinal round a mere formality, the championship game in the Redskins Insider 'Australia vs USA' fantasy league will pit SMACK against kost52.*
Top seed SMACK crushed wild card Stumped, while kost squeaked past Zebra thanks apparently to Jessica Simpson. (Zeeb's QB was Romo.)
kost and SMACK may represent Australia and the USA respectively, which nicely fits the theme of this league, but they are both of Dutch extraction, which counts for something, I think.
* He Nate Me was not invited to participate in the championship game.
--- end fantasy interlude ---
HAIL!

Posted by: makalb18 | December 16, 2007 11:11 PM
Okay, the narrative of the season on this defensive stand.
A measure of triumph out of adversity? Or another horrible version of our season-long punch in the face?
Oy, oy, oy, I'm highly wrought up right now.

Posted by: EinVB | December 16, 2007 11:12 PM
Well, Moss had to really stretch, but he was able to bat that ball down.
Does he know he's playing offense tonight?
Posted by: farstriker | December 16, 2007 11:12 PM

Guess Mix won't get a chance to show the Giants that they should have kept him. On the playoff note, hopefully the Iggles can take down NO next week.
