Jason Campbell Info

Jason did not meet the media today, which was a little odd, but no cause for alarm. He rode his car around to the back of Redskins Park and left that way as well, which meant he didn't have to interact with us schlubs.

I take that as a sign of him just laying low. He didn't play in the final 5 games and I think he's kind of letting Todd Collins have his time. But again, it's unlike Jason.

I spoke to some people close to him tonight who were adamant that everything is totally cool. They said everyone from Daniel Snyder to Joe Gibbs have assured him throughout his injury - and Collins's magical ride - that Jason remained the starter and would get his job back as soon as he was healthy.

Spent a good bit of time chatting with Jason alone on Thursday - chilling in his new ride - and he was very at ease with everything and spoke at length about the positive feedback he had received from the staff and how certain he was that this remained his football team.

I expect he'll work even harder this offseason than he did last and at some point he'll put that passing camp together with Moss, Randle El and the other receivers. Maybe they'll all be able to make it out to Donovan McNabb's training facility in Arizona this winter once everyone is healthy.

And, follow up on an earlier post, Campbell's guy, WR Anthony Mix, signed a three-year deal when the Redskins plucked him from New York's practice squad, so he's signed through the 2009 season and not a free agent.

Mix looks like he can seriously ball. Be nice to have him step up and be that bigger WR that we need along with Moss and ARE....

JC is still the savior in my eyes....

Can't wait to see Mix in action in the preseason, to see if he can do what it looks like he might be able to do. I've watched some clips of him making some nice catches for the Jints last preseason, including a particularly nice one where he stopped, reversed his motion and dove back to make a catch. He looks very nimble on film for his height and weight.

For the West Coast Peeps...anyone planning to watch American Gladiator?

I think I'm in love with Crush.

And I'd pay good money to get to try the Assault and Gauntlet rounds.

Posted by: PDiddy | January 6, 2008 9:30 PM

Jasno mentioning the passing camp reminded me of another guy on the IR Mike Espy. Is there any news on how his recovery is going, and what we could expect from him next year.
Thanks

Posted by: xchenne | January 6, 2008 9:31 PM

I thought it was peculiar that JC's vaunted proclamation to practice all last offseason with his receivers even if he had to fly to meet them never materialized...

Posted by: PDiddy | January 6, 2008 9:35 PM

PDiddy,

Watching AG's now. You're right about Crush. Not sure if you knew, but her name is Gina Carano and is a Muay Thai/MMA fighter. Schmokin' hot and can kick some serious backside.

Posted by: luhmanj | January 6, 2008 9:49 PM

When they said "Anthony Mix" got that fumble... I was like "who?"

Works for me though.

I don't mind those hard working special team types... sort of like them better than the pampered 1st rounders that come with expectations and arrogance (not all of them, just some).

I like that my boy Akeem Jordan made the Eagles roster in the late season at LB. Born and raised in Harrisonburg and was the A-10 defensive player of the year his last season at JMU. Those guys are hungry. Sign em all.

Posted by: Dorf | January 6, 2008 10:35 PM

Diddy, I think the fact Jason did not fly to meet the WRs was more on the receivers than on Jason.

Jason stayed here all off season, studied and worked out. Cooley and Randle El spent time here with him and it was noticeable he had a better connection with them than Santana.

Mix = Thrash 2.0, on some level, anyway?

Hard working, under-the-radar, zero-pub lunch bucket dude who is an ace special teamer, does whatever the coaches ask, etc. An anti-Lloyd. And his surname is also a verb.

A Miami TV news station says Williams is the top prospect to become Miami's next head coach...uh oh!

Posted by: Soups1 | January 6, 2008 11:17 PM

With all this talk about what may happen in the offseason, we should all stop to ask ourselves: "What would Matt Millen do?"

Then make sure we do the exact opposite and we should be ok...

Posted by: Soups1 | January 6, 2008 11:18 PM

I'm still in a daze from the game. Geez, what a threshing mill that fourth quarter was.

It's going to take me a while to shift into off-season mode.

Posted by: farstriker | January 6, 2008 11:29 PM

Mix was a beast in the games he played on ST's Caused fumbles, got fumbles ect.

And I hope to God that Willams stays!!! F Parcells that fat ass...If he hires him, GG will take all our coaches and players

Posted by: Tyler84101 | January 6, 2008 11:48 PM

Lisa, that was precisely what I was intimating...

Posted by: PDiddy | January 7, 2008 12:14 AM

Wow...I was convinced that Man Boobs was going nowhere. He has such a great gig in DC that Miami would have to blow him away. But all indications are that Miami will have a top-notch football guy at the top, an up and coming GM, and a coach: the decision-making triad I believe is essential to building a football organization that lasts. And, it needn't be said, something the 'Skins don't have and likely never will.

Posted by: PDiddy | January 7, 2008 12:24 AM

One other thing...the overtitled staff may actually protect the 'Skins. Everyone is either a "coordinator" or "associate head coach", that it may not be possible for Man Boobs to poach the critical folks wherever he lands.

I think Man Boobs should absolutely be St. Joe's heir apparent. But if he's gone, then I'm on the "Grimm as successor" bandwagon with everyone else...

Posted by: PDiddy | January 7, 2008 12:26 AM

BTW, American Gladiators is idiotic. Absolutely no personality in the show. The Gladiators are nothing more than caricatures (though this Wolf guy looks completely nuts in a "smash beer bottles against my head" kinda way). And, the contestants are your typical reality show airheads (including the required NYPD or NYFD dude)...

Posted by: PDiddy | January 7, 2008 12:29 AM

And his surname is also a verb.

For those keeping score of post brilliance at home, the above is what separates a 10.0 from a 9.9. :)

Posted by: freakzilla | January 7, 2008 12:35 AM

Gregg isn't going anywhere. First, his kids love it in DC, they're both great athletes who love their schools and coaches. By the time Joe steps down, the kids will be graduating and moving on and Gregg will be ready to step in for the next decade.

I truly believe his second opportunity at the helm of a team will be like Belichecks.

Secondly, I don't think he wants to step into that type of situation. Especially with Parcells looking over his shoulder.

Posted by: dchandl3 | January 7, 2008 12:46 AM

I'm looking for info on this story about Double-G and Miami, and thankfully coming up empty. I just looked through the Sun-Sentinal's Dolphins section and didn't see anything at all about GG. They even have a head coach poll with 5 or 6 names and GG isn't on it.

I'm with Diddy, I want Gregg as our next head coach. I love the guy. And if somehow the story about Miami and GG were true, if I'm Dan Snyder, I get with St. Joe and say it's time for the two of them to do what's best for the team long-term, which is for Joe to move to the FO now, and make Gregg the HC now.

Posted by: freakzilla | January 7, 2008 12:56 AM

And also, what dchandl3 said.

Posted by: freakzilla | January 7, 2008 12:59 AM

I truly believe his second opportunity at the helm of a team will be like Belichecks.

To expound on my "what he said," I've never understood the line of thinking that says that because someone wasn't a good HC the first time means that he'll never be a good HC. Experience is a great teacher, and so is working for an all-time great HC.

One more observation before bed:

I saw Jeff Garcia's press conference footage from today on NFL Network a few minutes ago, and he looks like he's 65. Yikes.

One more observation before bed:

Bed? What's that? Who's got time to sleep on this blog?

Freaky Z, I agree on the prior head coaching experience stuff but don't like your choice of words. Just because the team's record wasn't great when the guy was a head coach before doesn't necessarily mean he wasn't a "good" head coach, it could just be that the entire organization and team were crap and he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time with the title of head coach...

Posted by: mvdame | January 7, 2008 2:04 AM

Okay, okay (I miss you Sallie Mae)...

I guess I would be all right with Grilliams as Gibbs' successor. We'd just have to convince jm220 to keep that hammer under the desk (or wherever he's keeping it these days) instead of deliveringg repeated smacks to the back of the head.

MV Dame! Holy crap!

I like what you're saying. And I'll go you one better.

"Just because the country's record wasn't great when the guy was president before doesn't necessarily mean he wasn't a "good" president, it could just be that the entire country was crap and he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time with the title of president."

In Man Boobs honor, of course...

I am LITERALLY in the PDX at this moment.

Thank goodness they don't breathalyze ya as part of the exit row suitability/readiness to serve evaluation.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be ready if needed. But these burps are awful beery.

"Just because the country's record wasn't great when the guy was president...

Okay, now you've gone too far...

Posted by: mvdame | January 7, 2008 2:11 AM

MV Dame, I know you know we're at like 141,250 right about now. And that we're going to hit 150k in late February and then be all surprised at ourselves when we're still south of 200k on opening day.

I'm just commentin'

Posted by: NateinthePDX | January 7, 2008 2:11 AM

Okay, I love the idea of having bottles of beer in my possession whilst roaming around the concourse waiting to board, which is the case because this stewpid brewpub isn't open yet but they are selling beer out of coolers. But the beer is crap. It's this local joint which seems to think the more hops the merrier. Blecch. It's all I can do to choke this swill down. I need a good old fashioned american macrobrew right about now. Of course the dude has closed and the flight will be boarding soon and blah blah blah

Posted by: NateinthePDX | January 7, 2008 2:14 AM

Hopocalypse. I thought of that after I posted the last one.

It's the freakin' offseason. It's all about padding the comment count. JIbba Jabba, Yo.

Did I mention that I not only got to hang out with P Diddy again, but I got to have dinner with him and Jason La Canfora and Jason Reid and Mike mothertruckin' Wise? Did I mention that? I should probably mention that again.

Posted by: NateinthePDX | January 7, 2008 2:17 AM

As the great sweenie once said:

"Come for the football, stay for the jibba jabba."

Posted by: mvdame | January 7, 2008 2:18 AM

I need to write up some kind of a thing about that whole evening but I haven't had any time since Friday... also, it is a wholly sensible maxim that a gentleman never drinks and tells.

Who you callin' a gentleman?

Posted by: NateinthePDX | January 7, 2008 2:19 AM

Nate, exactly how many overhopped beers have you had? I mean I know you're completely capable of having an NBM (Nate Blog Moment) anytime, anywhere, but still...

Posted by: mvdame | January 7, 2008 2:19 AM

I mentioned to Jasno and I got what amounted to an "amen" (tho mighty slurred at that point) that I think dcsween is the king of the blog. The absolute king of this joint. The greatest. I am sure some of you aggree with me, and the rest of you probably don't give a rat's patootie. But I'm a sween guy.

Posted by: NateinthePDX | January 7, 2008 2:21 AM

Freakin stupid technology is going to intervene here, Dame. No interweb on the flying machines yet. Ergo no bloggy for Nato. Bull honkey, I say.

I am man, hear me comment on the blog.

Flight boarding in a few... psssh.

Posted by: NateinthePDX | January 7, 2008 2:22 AM

sweenie's a champ, the King.

Except of course when it comes to treehouse domination...

Posted by: mvdame | January 7, 2008 2:23 AM

Simultaneously "too few" and "too many." It's gonna be a long flight given the current aftertaste on my tongue. TMI, I know, but you did ask.

See y'all.

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!

Safe flight, Nitpidixer.

See you on the other side...

Nate, we want to hear about the part of your conversation with Mike Wise when you took him to task for his smirky, smarmy WaPo column picture. :)

Posted by: TheCrickets007 | January 7, 2008 3:57 AM

It's hard to believe that Grilliams is seriously being considered as HC in Miami when the prevailing rumors seem to be that Tony Soprano has already been secretly selected for the job and is surreptitiously assembling his coaching staff. Besides, GG isn't really a Parcells guy, whereas the new GM and Tony Soprano both worked with Parcells in Dallas.

Posted by: TheCrickets007 | January 7, 2008 4:01 AM

Derrick Harvey, Derrick Harvey, Derrick Harvey . . .

Posted by: TheCrickets007 | January 7, 2008 4:08 AM

Williams to Miami?

1. Parcells has to cover up his poaching of the Dallas staff while Dallas is in the playoffs. It could cost Miami draft picks.

2. Why not rattle the cages out at Redskins Park by interviewing Williams? What's it cost? A first class airplane ticket?

3. Williams is floating the rumor to get a flashier title (Head Coach in Waiting? Grand Vizier? Secretary of Defense?) and another million or two in the pay envelope.

4. It's a good way for Parcells to widen his circle of friends and, in the process, get a few suggestions on how to fix the Miami D.

Just wanted to say it has been a wild ride this season but glad to share it with all the gang from blog central...

"Besides, GG isn't really a Parcells guy, whereas the new GM and Tony Soprano both worked with Parcells in Dallas.

It worked out well the last time Miami picked up coaches from Dallas, didn't it?

Posted by: kingbonehead | January 7, 2008 11:53 AM

If Gregg leaves for Miami I figure Olivadotti gets promoted to DC. Some figure he is a prodigy they don't want to lose, and fear he might get discovered ala Tomlin or Kiffen. They might even figure to let Gregg go to Miami so that Olivadotti can become HC when Gibbs retires.
