Jim Mora Withdraws
Just got off the phone with Bob Lamonte, Jim Mora's agent. Jim Mora has withdrawn from the Redskins job citing family concerns. Mora had a great visit, Lamonte said, but after returning to Seattle last night he sat down with his family and realized it was not a vacancy he could continue to pursue at this point. Many around the league believe Mora, who has deep ties to the Pacific Northwest and is a U of Washington guy, is the prime candidate for the Seattle job should Mike Homlgren retire as many NFL executives and coaches believe he will.
"Jim had a wonderful meeting with the Redskins and he loved the organization and had nothing but good things to say about Dan Snyder," Lamonte said. "But at the end of the day family counts most and Jim has three children under the age of 12 and he idea of moving his family across the country for the third time in three years was just untenable."
As I have written for a wee nowk, Gregg Williams is seen to be the frontrunner for the Skins job. He is now the only remaining known candidate to interview who has prior NFL head coaching experience. I continue to believe a candidate will be selected over the weekend - which sources around the league believe will be Williams - and look for a press conference by Tuesday. Snyder could always decide to start interviewing more candidates next week, but he has made it clear to those who have met with him that he is looking to begin moving forward with the offseason with a new coach.
Gotta get my makeup on here at Comcast - yeah, it's sad but true, but I am sure we'll be yapping about this more on Washington Post Live on Comcast Sportsnet.

I'm not into reposting from a previous thread, but this one is mostly about the asterisk.
Someone muttered it (maybe it was that Florio guy at pft.com), but I seriously don't get why all the former head coaches in the league aren't even getting nibbles (other than Mora). [Apparently, no one seems to even want the Falcons or the Ravens job.] Why the sour grapes about former head coaches? I could see sour graping on college coaches, aka under-qualified, control freak, quitters, but why throw in the towel on someone whose actually done the job and then had some time off to think about how he would have done things differently? I mean, look at this year's undefeated team ... Belichek was one of those "former" head coaches ... oh yeah, that's it ... never mind ... F Belichek.*

Of those future contracts guys, Billy McMullen/WR might fall into that "tall, possession" category ... he's 6'4" ... entering his fifth season ... drafted in the third round by Philly (after they picked L.J. Smith in the second) ... he had two TDs this year in Minnesota, which might be saying alot given that Tavaris Jackson was the guy throwing to him.

It would be hard to pick a Lamest Post of the Week, but this one has to be a finalist:
I tried to tell you this morning it's Jim Mora, but nobody wants to believe. Mora's staying in Virginia tonight and then flying home to discuss the terms with his agent and family after breakfast with the Danny. He'll be named officially on Monday afternoon.
My sources tell me that Williams wants Saunders gone, and The Danny is listening to ex-coach Gibbs who thinks Al earned his way. And Gregg basically peed on his own campfire like he did with management in Buffalo. He's not HC material; too bombastic.
Anyhoo, Jim Mora is coming to town so get ready.

We'll probably never know but Williams must feel like he is being hung out to dry while Snyder & Co. rummage through the NFL. Sure the team needs to comply with the Rooney Rule, but the Dolphins moved on with their search rapidly. Why the constant angst if Williams is the guy? He's been here for years - that's the best interview he can give. How can a few hours with various other coaches even approximate that body of work? I have a bad feeling about this whole process.
Posted by: i155133 | January 18, 2008 4:45 PM
Thank Goodness! Mora would have absolutely been the wrong choice. Too much of a players coach who coddled Mike Vick. He also is a big fan of the West Coast offense and the last thing we need is Jason Campbell spending the next two years learning how to run it.

TO is the most overrated receiver in football. Every one of his TDs vs. the redskins were defensive mistakes, not TO making plays. Randy Moss routinely makes defenders look helpless, TO benefits from a couple statistical games, then runs his mouth on how he's the best playmaker in football. He's not even a top 5 receiver in the league in my opinion, let alone #1.

Best way for Snyder not to screw up a decision: not allow him to make the decision.
Next best way: remove the wrong option from his selection options. This is what happened. Thank you Jim 'Melvin' Mora!

Duffy,
How did you get your job? Were you selected by God?
The point is to be number one at the end of the process, not at the beginning. It's not like Gregg Williams turned down other jobs to wait a week while Snyder interviewed other, legitimate candidates. And if he is p'o-ed, there will be four or five million reasons to get over it.

Posted by: dcsween | January 18, 2008 4:53 PM
psps23,
Every team that he has ever been with is better with him than without him. Every QB he has ever played for has had a career year with him. You have to be kidding me. The Cowboys with him are a much different team than without him. With him they won 13 could have been 14 games had he not been hurt. without him they woudl be lucky to win 5
Maybe you hate him, but you are kidding your self if you think he doesn't cause those "defensive mistakes" you pointed out. No other reciever did that to the Redskins that day. T.O is one of the top 5 recievers of all time let alone in the game today. Look at the numbers. Those numbers aren't situational they follow him whereever he goes. He makes the numbers, he is a game changer.

I ask Redskins insiders and fans: WHO IN GOD'S NAME WOULD PUT A LOSER AND A HISSY FIT THROWER LIKE JIM MORA'S NAME INTO THE POT FOR REDSKINS COACH, HUH? REALLY, YOU'D HAVE TO HAVE GIGANTIC ROCKS INSIDE THE NOGGIN TO EVEN THINK IN THAT DIRECTION!
Do you all not remember how he trashed Peyton Manning on national TV when Peyton was a brand new quarterback? I've never forgotten that and his ass WAS FIRED, JUSTIFIABLY, IN PART BECAUSE OF THAT INEXCUSABLE ACTION ON HIS PART!
SHEESH! GIMME A BREAK, IF THAT'S THE BEST THAT REDSKINS MGMT. CAN COME UP WITH, THEN SNYDER IS NOT THE BRIGHT MAN I THOUGHT HIM TO BE!
Posted by: Spring_Rain | January 18, 2008 4:54 PM
All of this Mora business is really only a slight to GG if Snyder was actually, REALLY considering Mora as the next HC. And I am in no way convinced that that was ever the case, though I'm certain that Mora's agent is trying to spin it that way for obvious reasons.
Heck, if I were a high-profile candidate for a high-profile job and knew the odds were slim of me getting it, I'd withdraw my name from consideration too, rather than be publicly passed over after being hyped up.
Posted by: freakzilla | January 18, 2008 4:55 PM

I am a big Joe Gibbs Fan, but I think an argument can be made that if it wasn't for Gregg William's defense, Gibbs' return would have been disastrous. It is obvious that except for the 2006 season, the defense carried this team. My God, Gibbs only win in the play offs came with his offense only gaining 125 yards! If you want continuity, Williams is the man hands down.

the numbers are that no team he has ever been on has won a super bowl ring. simple as that. he puts up numbers, but numbers only get you the pro bowl. he kills every team he's on some way or another. the eagles got to the super bowl without him, mind you. he just got them to the playoffs. they won in the postseason without him, lost with him, then subsequently collapsed because of him. i'll take receivers like steve smith, andre johnson, torry holt, marvin harrison, reggie wayne, anquan boldin any day of the week over TO. it's not even a question.

Its credible to me that Mora didn't want to move young kids for the third time in three years (as opposed to the fairly blatant salary upjackage technique used by Jason Garrett).
That said, I do hope Holmgren retires. Seems like he's been pretty good for that team. A transition to Mora (or anybody else) might disrupt "continuity" there ... and any disruptions are good, from a Skins' schedule perspective.
Posted by: dcsween | January 18, 2008 5:25 PM
Hey, has anyone (other than me) bothered to check the hottie meter?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/interactives/coachsearch/
Whereas this morning it showed Mora as "hotter than hot" (but not quite as hot as Gregg) in the evening they've completely erased their error from this morning and they show him colder than, well, Caldwell, who turned the 'Skins down yesterday.
They've rewritten history to cover up the fact that they'd been fed a crock by their sources! That's something they couldn't do with the print edition.
Posted by: talent_evaluator | January 18, 2008 5:28 PM
WaPo has already updated the coach-o-meter.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/interactives/coachsearch/
I see that Caldwell has moved up one spot ... which can only mean that this particular graphic can only have one guy per spot ... and I'm pleased to see that no one is colder than Cowher.
Posted by: dcsween | January 18, 2008 5:29 PM
I'm sure coaching the Seahawks is a beter proposition to Mora than coming cross-country to deal with Snyder & Co. He would have been a bad match - he lost control of the Atlanta team that was made worse by the dysfunctional owner. No need to repeat history here again.
Lots of rumors about the relationships between Gibbs, Williams, Saunders and Synder & Co. And what role is Gibbs playing in the process?
Posted by: i155133 | January 18, 2008 5:30 PM
This shouldn't piss Williams off at all. Snyder had to wait at least until Indy was done to interview Meeks and satisfy the Rooney rule and Williams knows that. I don't think he expected to be corronated HC immediately, nor was he entitled to be. I'm sure if Williams was the owner he'd be raking multiple coaching candidates over the coals in an agressive and methodical manner, just like his coaching style.
Posted by: Jahswim | January 18, 2008 5:30 PM
My favorite thing about the coach-o-meter is that it extends into February. Oh the gnashing of teeth! The cruel month when the hamsters of RI grind their teeth to edentulousness.

Sween,
It is credible, but...then why did he come for the job interview? Did he think he could talk Snyder into letting him do the job by video conference from Seattle?
Look, it was clearly a leverage play to better his position in Seattle. Maybe Vinnie and Snyder conspired with him. But you don't suddenly realize after a 3000 thousand mile trip that you can't commute from Seattle.
This is very much in character with the type of person that Mora is. Hell, he talked bad about Payton Manning. Entirely predictable that he'd use the Redskins for leverage.
Posted by: talent_evaluator | January 18, 2008 5:34 PM
That just tells me the Skins have some doubts. He's had an on-the-job interview for several years - what new is there to learn? And as Gibbs was approaching the end of his contract, the team really needed to have a "Plan B" in place. Plan B did not seem to include Williams.

Mora and Cowher should be tied.
How is Saunders stock rising? He's not going to be the HC. But, he will remain as Associate HC - Offense. And GW will leave him alone. He has no choice. Saunders sits in the box during games and dosen't have to worry about GG left hook if the offense is failing........

Plan B was to extend Gibbs contract. And if Plan C didn't include Williams, then why have they interviewed him three times?
Have you ever gotten a job in anyplace more competitive than a Pizza Hut? Hiring a head coach, or even a government economist, usually involves interviewing more than one person.
Posted by: talent_evaluator | January 18, 2008 5:37 PM
Snyder should interview a bunch of people. It is important to get different views, see different styles and thought processes. Its especially important if you hire from within. Too many businesses believe too much in their own BS. So take the opportunity to bring in some sharp minds, listen and learn.
Even if Snyder hires GG, which he should, no reason not to build good relationships with other guys who might play a role with the Skins down the road.
Posted by: zcezcest1 | January 18, 2008 5:38 PM
It took me 8 months to get a job as a government economist and I deliver for Pizza Hut at night.
Any good organization has strategic planning plans for multiple scenarios. Otherwise, you get surprised and the cost can be devastating. Skins needed to think through Plan B and Plan C and be prepared to act decisively.
Posted by: i155133 | January 18, 2008 5:46 PM
Regarding Saunders....I think (and hope) he stays - no matter who the new coach is. In Gibbs interview with George Michael (the day before he resigned) he stated that keeping Todd Collins was VERY IMPORTANT to the team. Well, if Saunders is not here, Collins will not stay. And even if he did, would he be good in any system other than Saunders? Plus, Campbell likes Saunders and the offense finally has learned most of the playbook.

I understand building relationships with rising stars like Schwartz or laying the groundwork for him to replace Williams as AHC - D if Williams is the HC. But does Mora really fall into that category - he's a bit goofy and not a heavyweight.

"As I have written for a wee nowk, Gregg Williams is seen to be the frontrunner for the Skins job."
By Jason La Canfora | January 18, 2008; 4:35 PM ET
Oh yes, you have been a model of consistency through this whole process Mr. Beat Reporter........
"This franchise went from 900 million to 1.5 billion since Gibbs came here in 2004. That's the bottom line here. Snyder is not gonna give the head coaching job to someone that doesn't have that big name, that sex appeal, who is not going to help him sell club level seats, and expensive suites." -Beat Reporter, Tuesday
"Cowher fits the bill for what Snyder would be attracted to. Now, as I mentioned earlier Cowher would want full roster and personnel control and probably want to bring some of his own people in as well" -Beat Reporter, Tuesday
"Cowher is off the market...He knows the kind of $$$ Snyder spends and he is not wavering in his stance" -Beat Reporter, Thursday
"For all of the yapping about continuity and stability, sure sounds like a blood-letting is upon us. Owner Dan Snyder was given multiple opportunities to endorse an in-house candidate, and specifically Gregg Williams, and declined to do so." -Beat Reporter, Tuesday
"I'd be stunned if the Skins don't reach out to Cowher soon" -Beat Reporter, Tuesday
"If it's Gregg Williams, the process will be over in 3-5 days" -Beat Reporter, Tuesday
"Got an email from one of those on-line casinos with the odds for the next coach of the Skins. It's notable for what it doesn't say more than what it does:
Gregg Williams - 2/1
The Field - 2/1
Bill Cowher - 5/1
Al Saunders - 5/1
Brian Billick - 6/1
Jason Garrett - 9/1
Mike Singletary - 12/1
Rex Ryan - 12/1
Jim Caldwell - 15/1
So, basically, Vegas has no idea at this point" -Beat Reporter, Wednesday
"Several NFL sources said that they took the identification of Schwartz as a candidate as another sign that Williams, who the players strongly support, does not appear to be the front runner." -Beat Reporter, Thursday
"It doesn't come off as a great sign that they bring in Williams's former assistant, obviously" -Beat Reporter, Thursday
"We've just started this process. It's the first interview of many. We need to slow down. It's impossible to see the entire picture right now. It's a fluid situation and this isn't free agency - you don't hire every guy you bring into town." -Beat Reporter, Thurdsay
"I thought he and Gibbs could have sent a much stronger message about the validity of their in house people as candidates at the press conference" -Beat Reporter, Thursday
"Wouldn't it be an indictment of this entire Joe Gibbs 2.0 era if Snyder went through the process then handed it over to someone with little-to-no head coaching experience - without at least talking to the in-house guys first" -Beat Reporter, Thursday
"Greg Williams will most definitely be a part of the process and, as I posted earlier, he is expected to interview at the end of the cycle, likely the final interview." -Beat Reporter, Friday
"But to this point I do not have anything firm enough to meet the Post's standards" -Beat Reporter, Saturday
"the consensus I keep coming to is Williams is the guy" -Beat Reporter, Saturday
"It would really be something to have none of Gibbs's guys even get an interview" -Beat Reporter, Thursday
"Gregg Williams is by far the leading candidate for this job." -Beat Reporter, Saturday
Wow. Just....wow.

I wouldn't have placed Mora at the top of my list, either. But, apparently Holmgren (a real heavyweight in more weighs than one) and Seattle apparently do. And you've got to believe that Snyder talked with a few other people who gave him good recommendations on him.
And, remember that the Seattle defense just put the Redskins in a world of pain two weeks ago. Wouldn't you like to ask the guy who did it what he sees and the principal problems with the Redskins O? Wouldn't that be worth the price of flying the guy in from Seattle?
Posted by: talent_evaluator | January 18, 2008 6:02 PM
Valid points. But I would have thought that Gibbs & Co. could explain why the Seattle D destroyed the Skins offensive line. I doubt Mora will give the keys to his scheme to an opponent he will see again.

What I find is strange is that both Holmgren and Dungy haven't announced plans. Its been most of a week and I think both would have figured things out by now. Gibbs took 2 days and announced it on day 3.

I would have replied sooner, but I had a wee nowk in my eye...
Posted by: fawcett007 | January 18, 2008 6:16 PM
Face it dudes,
The Danny is looking for a reason NOT to hire Williams, it is way to obvious. Why do you need to interview an assistant who has been on staff 4 years 4 times?? If he brings in more coaches next week, you will know ( you should know now ) that he doesn't want to hire Williams, he is looking for that big splash that he isn't going to find.
If I was a potential coach for the Skins, I might be a little leary of Danny, Vinny and the ghost of Coach Gibbs, I would want to make my own mark without past influence.
Posted by: Davo61 | January 18, 2008 6:18 PM
Holmgren and Dungy were still playing and both know that their successor is in place. Joe knew that Snyder would want to do an extension. He also wanted Snyder to have an opportunity to interview the best candidates out there.
I think Mora withdrew because he knew the job wasn't his. I think the whole Snyder really, really likes Mora thing was set up by Snyder and Vinny to help Vinny's buddy save face.

Nothing about this is even close to obvious.
Does anyone find it strange that they've apparently not interviewed even one offensive coordinator or offense-minded coach? If only to get some more opinions of JC and the gang? I'd interview Garrett just for the intelligence -- ask him how he would use our offense to kill the Cowpies, what matchups make Romo throw the picks, and such as...

The sadistic smile on Jason's face. Welcome to Redskin's Insider... then you see that smug, "I am screwing with you guys..." smile.
Sure he is the keeper of the blog. Sure he has the inside track and breaks the news with a quickness, but every time I click "Insider" and see the sadistic joker's smile without a new thread, I cant help but to shed tears.
Stop the madness Jason! Damn you Insider. I wish I knew how to quit you.

Just finished watching "The Sarah Connor Chronicles". I love this show. It's early, of course, and the actors and writers haven't really found their characters yet. But the basics are all in place. Hopefully the writers strike ends soon because this is a show that I'd love to see evolve.

You seem to know everything but Mora wasn't even running their D. He is the secondary coach.
Baltimore just hired John Harbaugh. If we do something like this instead of Williams we may as well chalk up another 15 years of mediocrity at least.

4-12, thanks for sharing that. $8500 for a 386/20! Amazing! I can barely believe that a PII/266 set me back $1800 11 years ago.
In the closet here in my home office, I have a mint condition Timex Sinclair 1000, in the box. One of the first personal computers on the market. My grandpa bought it many years ago when it came out. It has a whopping 2K of memory. From the text on the back of the box:
"The Timex Sinclair 1000 is the first personal computer featuring our new microchip design. The design utilizes four powerful microchips, including a unique Master Chip that replaces as many as 18 chips on other personal computers. The Timex Sinclair 1000, with the optional 16K RAM Pack accessory, is a compact computer with all the power and high-performance capacity you are likely to need for personal use."
Would that I had that 16K RAM Pack accessory! ;-)

Diddy, the missus and I watched the first episode of the Sarah Conner Chronicles, and the second episode is waiting on the DVR for me to get enough free time this weekend so that we can watch that one, too. I liked the first episode, though am curious as to why the terminators are back to the skeletal form, instead of liquid metal.
I understand why from a played-out special effect angle, but I'm looking for a geek angle, like the computers discovered that it had some fatal flaw.

This just in the fightin' Hon's have a new head coach der'
OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- John Harbaugh was hired Friday as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, who hope their second choice proves to be a first-rate success.
Harbaugh spent this season as secondary coach of the Philadelphia Eagles after making a name for himself working with special teams. He has never been a head coach, but has coaching in his genes - his father, Jack, is former head coach at Western Kentucky.
The 45-year-old Harbaugh will be introduced as the third coach in Ravens history at a news conference on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the team's Owings Mills facility.
Harbaugh interviewed a second time at the Ravens' training complex Friday with owner Steve Bisciotti, president Dick Cass and general manager Ozzie Newsome. He arrived around 9:30 a.m. and finally reached an agreement around 5:30 p.m.
He then left in a limousine for his home in Philadelphia without talking to the media.
Ravens spokesman Kevin Byrne said Harbaugh wanted to first share the news with his wife and parents before sharing his feelings in front of cameras and reporters.
Harbaugh replaces Brian Billick, who was fired on Dec. 31 after a nine-year run. The Ravens earlier this week offered the job to Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, who spurned Baltimore in favor of staying in Dallas. Garrett rejected the Ravens' job offer after receiving a raise from owner Jerry Jones and a promotion to assistant head coach.
Harbaugh was named NFL Special Teams Coach of the Year by his peers in 2001. He shifted to the secondary last season, working under Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson.

Interesting note from the pastabelly article:
"Eight of the 12 teams in this season's playoff pool, and three of the four franchises in the conference championship games this weekend, are stewarded by head coaches who are in at least their second go-rounds as NFL sideline bosses."
......
"But here is perhaps the most notable part of the process: Only two candidates with previous NFL head coaching experience, Washington assistant head coach/defense Gregg Williams and Seattle secondary coach Jim Mora, received interviews. Both men met with the Redskins, the only franchise among the four with openings to interview a retread coach.

I'm still working for another 90 minutes, but I'm working from home today, and what's the point of working from home if you can't enjoy a good beer even before the work day has completely wound down.
(And yes, all you smarty-pantses, I actually have gotten a lot of work done today, despite BMGO.)

Snyder misses the fun of bringing someone in and fire the guy a year later. Mora fits the bill so well. He's too naive to figure that out. But his wife is smarter. She knew it all along.

Remember ex-Redskin Dana Stubblefield? He recently pleaded pleaded guilty today to lying to a U.S. agent regarding steroid use, but evidently it didn't help when he was with the Skins.
He weighed in at #7 on ESPN's list of worst free agent signings (Skins earned 2 entries in this Top Ten list, with Neon Deion taking the #3 posision):
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=list/050314/nflfreeagents&num=0
7. Dana Stubblefield (Redskins, 1998)
Stubblefield, 27, was a three-time Pro Bowler in his first five seasons with the 49ers. The 1993 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year matured, by 1997, into the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. And then he became free.
The Redskins pounced, giving Stubblefield a six-year, $36 million deal that included an $8 million signing bonus. He injured his knee after the Skins' 0-7 1998 start, and missed the rest of that season. He put in two more seasons of good, but unspectacular play in Washington before he was released, totaling only seven sacks in 37 starts.

Latest info from Bram (Redskins Radio)...
Bram says the Redskins search has ceased in terms of interviewing candidates as far as he can tell.. There are some clarifications that he has received in terms of the search, 1) Dan Snyder never flew to Seattle and flew back with Mora.. He did send a plane for him but did not accompany him.. same goes for Ron Meeks, both were interviewed at the Snyder house in Potomac..and their interviews were treated the same....no different.
As for the continued perception that Gregg Williams remains the front runner, Bram was told by a league source, "No one has told Gregg he is the front runner and if he doesn't know whether he is the front runner, why would anyone else know that?" So the team continues to downplay Williams as the eventual successor to Joe Gibbs.. Still, with Williams being the only known candidate with head coaching experience, Bram said he would be hard pressed not to believe that he has a more then 50/50 shot at the job now that Mora has bowed out..
There is a fifth unnamed candidate that did interview last Friday with Snyder and the team is continuing to lay low and not publcily comment on who that may be.. So, while he had the impression an announcement could come this weekend or early next week, he is now unsure of that timeline with Mora out of the equation.. thinks the Skins have done a miraculous job keeping this search so underground.. Information is very hard to come by..
Another thing on Williams, the source Bram spoke with said the number of interviews that Williams has received is "irrelevant" in terms of an indicator of how close he is to getting the job.. Williams works in the building and it was easier to speak with him on numerous occassions as opposed to the long drawn out interview process for out of town candidates..

Snyder must have freaked Jim Mora out...He probably didn't want to do the CEO day after day briefings of Fluff

whew!...appropriately phrased. After the Norv & Spurrier experiences, let's hope Dan doesn't find someone else whose merciful "withdrawal" we all eventually look forward to!
I hope he's just being thorough in his search, knowing Double G is the best choice.

Williams is last resort. Only putz that will take job under Gibbs and Snyders demands. Such as keeping Campbell and Saunders. Would you want to coach a 7-9 team while trying to educate a quarterback who is going nowhere!!!

Bram's source HAS to be Williams agent. One of the same sources JLaC has been pedaling to us for a wee nowk.
Why Williams will get the job - Because he would try to press Snyder to make a decision way before now because all the other jobs in the league are getting taken up and the coaches would be SOL.

Perhaps this explains it. Only Gibbs is over the age of 67 anyway:
IR-2007-209, Dec. 27, 2007
WASHINGTON -- The Internal Revenue Service announced today that the upcoming tax season is expected to start on time for everyone except certain taxpayers potentially affected by late enactment of the Alternative Minimum Tax "patch."
Following extensive work in recent weeks, the IRS expects to be able to begin processing returns for the vast majority of taxpayers in mid-January. However, as many as 13.5 million taxpayers using five forms related to the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) legislation will have to wait to file tax returns until the IRS completes the reprogramming of its systems for the new law.
The IRS has targeted Feb. 11, as the potential starting date for taxpayers to begin submitting the five AMT-related returns affected by the legislation. The February date allows the IRS enough time to update and test its systems to accommodate the AMT changes without major disruptions to other operations related to the tax season. As the IRS has said previously, it will take approximately seven weeks after the AMT patch was approved to update IRS processing systems completely.
