Jim Zorn
Redskins are interviewing Seattle Qb coach Jim Zorn for an offensive coordinator position, according to league sources. The Redskins asked premission to talk to him this week - again not the head coaching job - and flew him from the Senior Bowl in Mobile to town today, where was expected to interview at owner Daniel Snyder's house.
Zorn has developed many quarterbacks and has a strong reputation. He was an accomplished NFL QB himself, mostly with Seattle. This continues to jibe with what I have heard through this process about Al Saunders possibly being in hot water.
I am still connecting all the dots about the biug picture here and will keep you posted.

when will it end!

This is insane! When is Snyder going to put this issue to rest... for the other coaches, players and, for God's sake, the fans!
This whole thing is embarrassing...
Posted by: psummers | January 23, 2008 2:38 PM
Maybe this is good. Maybe GG get's the nod with a new OC... I can't see them hiring Fassel and a OC
Posted by: greg_hughes90 | January 23, 2008 2:40 PM
Why would Snyder be interviewing the subsidiary coaches without having announced his head coach? Unless what the HC thinks is not an essential part of the process...
Ugh. You guys have my sympathy.
Posted by: Redcoat | January 23, 2008 2:41 PM
I'm having a hard time seeing these dots. My picture is all covered with biugs.
Posted by: dcsween | January 23, 2008 2:41 PM
I don't understand why everyone is in such a rush. I think having a new coach by the Super Bowl would be a pretty decent time-table. It's a big decision. I wish they were this contemplative with free agents and draft picks in the past. They should take their time, make sure they talk to everyone who interests them, and then decide. There is ABSOLUTELY no rush right now.
Posted by: LiberalMike | January 23, 2008 2:42 PM
looks like i will be saving $200 next year by not getting the NFL package on Direct TV. Sigh... this is just ebarrasing
Posted by: Stevida | January 23, 2008 2:42 PM
Why would we be going after an OC when we dont have a HC, this makes no sense, if snyder has decided he just needs to make the announcment
Posted by: SAK2 | January 23, 2008 2:43 PM
What -- we finally get Jason up to page 235 of that 700-page Saunders playbook, and it's time to toss it on the scrapheap??? Say it ain't so, Danny-boy!!
I mean, I ain't no great big Al Saunders fan, but it's gotta put a young QB like JC back a full year to have to learn a whole new system from scratch -- AGAIN...
Posted by: gr8day4bsbll | January 23, 2008 2:43 PM
Redcoat, if the whole coaching staff is introduced in a single appearance, there will be little doubt who is running this "unbroken, unfixed" thing.
More importantly, however, what does this have to do with pies?
Posted by: dcsween | January 23, 2008 2:43 PM
I'm going to be consistent from my previous post as we are all looking for some consistency :
Fcuk that,
Hire Grilliams and get on with it.
Fcuk the rest.
Fcuk, hurry this thing up!
What the Fcuk!?

See! If they are interviewing Zorn, that means Greggg Williams will be the next HC...
The ship has remained steady through all the rough waters.....
Vegence is mine!

Both zorn and fassel have ties to Utah State... Fassel was an asst coach there in the 80's and Zorn was an asst there later after fassel left in the 90's
Posted by: Big_Money20 | January 23, 2008 2:44 PM
This is totally crazy. He is doing this to bring attention to himself. What an ass!!
Posted by: jm220 | January 23, 2008 2:44 PM
Redcoat, he has to see what combination of coaches he can land, I would imagine. You can't hire a head coach in hopes a good support staff will just appear.
Posted by: sams3 | January 23, 2008 2:44 PM
There goes that nice pie-induced coma we were all in...
Posted by: _Stumped_ | January 23, 2008 2:44 PM
Could simply be that one of the HC candidates they are interested in (Williams, Fassel, Schwartz, etc.) told them he'd be interested in Zorn as OC and they want to see if they can live with him before offering the HC job to that candidate.
Posted by: LiberalMike | January 23, 2008 2:44 PM
Oh, goody. It's always a great thing to have your 3rd year QB with a Wonderlich score of 13 try to learn a new offensive system every 2 years. But no worries, because we've got a backup QB who's been using the same system since the mid-90s.
How about we leave the coaches alone and get a new owner?
Posted by: groundhogdayguy | January 23, 2008 2:45 PM
Does Dan Snyder have one of those deli-style number dispensers outside the mansion to handle the interviews?
"Mr. Fassel, you're number 96 . . . now, serving, number 96 . . . Mr. Zorn, now serving number 97."
"No, Mr. Williams, it's not your 5th turn yet."
This is hilarious. Every fear that every Skins fan has had about the Danny and Vinny "Fredo" Cerrato has come true.
Or would Vinny be "Igor"?

My favorites:
Pecan Pie(haven't had it with caramel & chocolate though)
Pumpkin Pie
Apple Pie
All can be made better with Breyer's vanilla ice cream.

Pick up pie and ice cream on way home from work. Eat for dinner.

jm220, are the falcons interviewing people for attention too? Maybe they should just hire anyone who says I'll do it. Lets just skip all the interviews and hire based on a dice game.

Posted by: 4thFloor | January 23, 2008 2:47 PM
My only data point on Zorn is that he used to be the QB in Seattle (throwing to Largent, right?). I'm not sure how I feel about bringing a Klingon into the organization though.
Posted by: dcsween | January 23, 2008 2:47 PM
The comments on this blog are getting ridiculous.
A bunch of people who don't know what is going on feeding incredibly wild speculation.
Relax people. Wait until the process is finished to judge what you know nothing about at this point.

Zorn is a Seattleite thru and thru and probable OC when Holmgren leaves, no way Zorn leaves Seattle for DC...humoring himself by playing with little Danny Snyda

I'd like to think they've got their HC settled on then. Otherwise WTH. Yo Danny, the cart goes behind the horse.
Posted by: mtnskinsfan | January 23, 2008 2:49 PM
fassel and zorn were both west coast guys heving been born in CA... both played QB, so seems like these two may have some connections.
Posted by: Big_Money20 | January 23, 2008 2:49 PM
The question is, who is in the room with Snyder while Zorn is interviewed? Williams or Fassel? Williams is in town isn't he, what about Fassel?

I second the thought about finding out what kind of pie Zorn likes. Matter of fact, let's find out what kind of pie all of the canidates like. Then we'll have better criteria to base this HC search on!
Posted by: BCBarney | January 23, 2008 2:53 PM
I'm gonna go ahead and put my vote in for coconut creme.
But since Zorn is a Seattle guy, I'm gonna say he's up for whatever they're serving at Starbucks. Something like Super Moca Chunk Delight Low Fat Skim Latte Pie.

Any headcoach will want to have his own staff. Danny isn't trying to hire one person, but a complete package here.
It is a tough job. He has to see who is available and willing. He won't hire a head coach without knowing that a complete staff can be assembled. That's why it's taking so long.
Posted by: _Stumped_ | January 23, 2008 2:56 PM
I thought the head coach picked his coaching staff and not the owner. The Danny is an idiot.

Posted by: solong_430 | January 23, 2008 2:56 PM

Boston Cream for me. Which, of course, isn't a pie but a cake. Somehow, that seems to fit in The Danny's world, though...where up is down and black is white and Deion is still Prime Time...

Matthew McConaughey was a pretty good coach in "We Are Marshall." They should hire him. He'd be fun. Especially if he brought the bongos with him.

And I'm guessing that Flapjacks would win any pie eating contest easy.
Posted by: sheidt99 | January 23, 2008 2:59 PM
maybe this isn't all Danny's fault. what if Greggggg said that he wants to keep Al. Danny wants to make a change there obviously. maybe Danny really wanted to hire Gregg but it didn't work out. who really knows.
this was a bad team last year that happened to use ST's death as a rally cry. they weren't that good. i think with that perspective you really have to view what the coaches were really getting out of the players.

Whereas a different comment would spin out of control:
"Is the bacon pie ready yet?!??!"
Posted by: dcsween | January 23, 2008 3:00 PM
Cowboys hired their OC before the head coach last year and that seemed to work out pretty well.
I think we should be happy that Danny is taking his time. Rather than rushing out and hiring another Spurrier. Whether it's a coach you or I want or not, we should want Danny to choose a coach that he trusts. The last thing we need is a coach that is on a short leash from the day he is hired.
Posted by: CMoney1 | January 23, 2008 3:00 PM
Oh no! Management screwed up the pies!! Now how will we decide the HC search if not with a pie eating contest?
Posted by: BCBarney | January 23, 2008 3:01 PM
The offense has been the problem for years, not the defense.
Al's in hot water now? Wasn't he brought here to fix that stagnant offense?
The only time the offense clicked was when Collins was QB'ing and the WR corps was a little healthier.
Irony: If Saunders gets fired, it will be after 2 years at OC--just like Fassel in 2006!

I think Snyder wants Cowher but he will not be available until next season so he is hiring a "patsie" to be the fall guy. Will fire him at the end of next season and go after Cowher.

Now I actually like this move if Saunders is to go...Zorn I think would be a good O-cord. Most ex-QBs are regardless of starting or not...but Zorn would be a good choice. But that basically says Saunders is GONE. I don't know what to think really...After sleeping on Fassil ..I'm not as down onit as I was when I first heard yesterday...It could be worse...at least he has had success....and I noticed a few posts calling JF soft...I don't see that...He was always firery in his conferences included being all mad and making that guarantee they would make the playoofs and the players responded and they did...anycase..there are worse choices out there....I mean GW definitely does not have the good track record. I was never sold on GW...My heart wants it but my brain says no..SO NATION...PUT ON YOUR SEAT BELT..GIBBS HAS LEFT AND THE OFFSEASON HAS BEGUN. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN LOL RIDE LIKE THE WIND BABY! LOL

DC - Sweet potatoe pie (gotta have the roots on defense)
side note - anyone see the Good Eats pocket pie episode (my mouth waters just thinking about curried mango pocket pies)

There's an old Tennessee dish that I forget the name of that is like a layer of bread, then a layer of cheese, then a layer of bacon, repeated like 7 times. I'd say that's both the best and worst pie you can buy.

I think I'm going to let the professional journalists update us with information as it happens. I'm no longer going to criticize them because they're at the Park, talking to sources I don't have, and, really, what do I know about writing a lede and earning a byline?
That's what I'm going to do.
And eat lots of quiche and pie.

Thanks for your input Barno. TRACKING THE REDSKINS WITH THE BEAT REPORTER.
Below are updates on the Redskins coaching search from Washington Post's Redskins beat reporter Jason La Canfora. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the end of the search.
"Redskins are interviewing Seattle Qb coach Jim Zorn for an offensive coordinator position. This continues to jibe with what I have heard through this process about Al Saunders possibly being in hot water." Beat Reporter, January 23
"I keep hearing that Jim Fassel is in a great position to get this job" -Beat Reporter, January 22
"Gregg Williams is by far the leading candidate for this job." -Beat Reporter, January 12
"Bill Cowher fits the bill for what Snyder would be attracted to" -Beat Reporter, January 8
"former Baltimore DC Rex Ryan would replace Gregg Williams if it goes down this way" -Beat Reporter, January 22
"The Redskins have still said nothing to Williams and the rest of the coaches and all signs pointing to Fassel." -Beat Reporter, January 22
"This franchise went from 900 million to 1.5 billion since Gibbs came here in 2004. That's the bottom line here. Snyder is not gonna give the head coaching job to someone that doesn't have that big name, that sex appeal, who is not going to help him sell club level seats, and expensive suites." -Beat Reporter, January 8
"I Need A Job Where I Can Just Make Things Up And Create The News" -Beat Reporter, January 21
"In an era of rampant speculation I am being as careful as I can." -Beat Reporter, January 21
"For all of the yapping about continuity and stability, sure sounds like a blood-letting is upon us. Owner Dan Snyder was given multiple opportunities to endorse an in-house candidate, and specifically Gregg Williams, and declined to do so." -Beat Reporter, January 8
"Jim Fassel, former Giants coach and Baltimore assistant, could be getting a look." -Beat Reporter, January 21
"Cowher fits the bill for what Snyder would be attracted to. Now, as I mentioned earlier Cowher would want full roster and personnel control and probably want to bring some of his own people in as well" -Beat Reporter, January 8
"Cowher is off the market...He knows the kind of $$$ Snyder spends and he is not wavering in his stance" -Beat Reporter, January 10
"I'd be stunned if the Skins don't reach out to Cowher soon" -Beat Reporter, January 8
"If it's Gregg Williams, the process will be over in 3-5 days" -Beat Reporter, January 8
"Several NFL sources said that they took the identification of Schwartz as a candidate as another sign that Williams, who the players strongly support, does not appear to be the front runner." -Beat Reporter, January 10
"It doesn't come off as a great sign that they bring in Williams's former assistant, obviously" -Beat Reporter, January 10
"We've just started this process. It's the first interview of many. We need to slow down. It's impossible to see the entire picture right now. It's a fluid situation and this isn't free agency - you don't hire every guy you bring into town." -Beat Reporter, January 10
"I thought he and Gibbs could have sent a much stronger message about the validity of their in house people as candidates at the press conference" -Beat Reporter, January 10
"Wouldn't it be an indictment of this entire Joe Gibbs 2.0 era if Snyder went through the process then handed it over to someone with little-to-no head coaching experience - without at least talking to the in-house guys first" -Beat Reporter, January 10
"Greg Williams will most definitely be a part of the process and, as I posted earlier, he is expected to interview at the end of the cycle, likely the final interview." -Beat Reporter, January 11
"But to this point I do not have anything firm enough to meet the Post's standards" -Beat Reporter, January 12
"It would really be something to have none of Gibbs's guys even get an interview" -Beat Reporter, January 12
"the consensus I keep coming to is Williams is the guy" -Beat Reporter, January 12
"Got an email from one of those on-line casinos with the odds for the next coach of the Skins. It's notable for what it doesn't say more than what it does:
Gregg Williams - 2/1
The Field - 2/1
Bill Cowher - 5/1
Al Saunders - 5/1
Brian Billick - 6/1
Jason Garrett - 9/1
Mike Singletary - 12/1
Rex Ryan - 12/1
Jim Caldwell - 15/1
So, basically, Vegas has no idea at this point" -Beat Reporter, January 9

Thanks for the pig related simpsons quote... reminded me of the "Adam and Eve" parallel they did where a pig with a top hat and a monocle plopped down next to homer in Eden and let Homer peel his succulent underside right off!
Also, the pie talk reminds me of when Marge left Homer alone in the kitchen with a pie to check on a fighting Bart/Lisa shabingus and Homer talking to the pie...
"All right pie, I'm going to go like this (chomping his mouth) and if you get in the way its your own fault."
(Homer hits his head on the stove and starts to yell and stops briefly)
"Ah what the heck"
(eats the pie)

DId we even come close? NO! The last four years were inconsisant at best....I have a change of heart..I do not want williams we need new blood
Posted by: leevi98 | January 23, 2008 03:10 PM
leevi98, Barno, I have to disagree. The problem is, the last 4 years were better than the previous 12.
Other than pulling off the surprise of bringing a HOF Skins coach out of retirement, there wasn't much to cheer about from this franchise in those 12 years. And what's going on now looks a helluva lot like what was going on for 12 years after the first time Gibbs retired. Been there done that. The results were NOT good.
So far, none of the candidate trotted out so far have any advantage over Williams. Fassel's Superbowl visit is easily balanced by his complete lack of success since then.

Jason appreciate all the updates cuz its obvious we get no updates from our horrible front office and we have no idea with what is going on with our franchise...basically if fassel is brought in and all these changes occur your saying joe gibbs 2nd stint was bs and all for nothing and that danny the little rich nerd snyder has lied to all of redskin nation about 'continuity.' It is a shame as a franchise and diehard fans that we have to go through this nonsense over and over. It is hard for me to say that I won't pay for season tickets and all bogus ass prices that snyder makes us pay cuz I live and die with my team, but I am getting to the point where it is making me sick. If we don't hire Gregg Williams as the head coach lets get ready for a completely new team, new offense, new defense, a whole new group of core players, and lets get ready for alot of top 10 draft picks....just what danny boy loves offseason limelight...

The HC search is becoming mind-numbing and I can't say I have a better opinion that the FO. But, since a OC is interviewing, I'm guessing it's almost over. I wouldn't be happy with Fassel as I'm not impressed with him. GW I'd like but I'll still root for the laundry.

also on a related note Fossil watches have been contacted by snyder to work out a skins watch deal.
would you like a skins fossil watch?
Posted by: dealer | January 23, 2008 3:37 PM
My theory is that Gregg was Snyder's first choice. He tried to seal the deal -- over four meetings -- but Gregg overplayed his hand making demands that Snyder couldn't agree to. Thus the four meetings -- to try to reach a compromise.
What was the sticking point? Maybe control over the coordinator positions. Maybe personnel control. Maybe money. Who knows?
A lot of what has gone on since then has been designed to get Gregg to back down -- Mora's the one; Fassel's the one; Meeks thrilled us. Etc. But, at some point Snyder will have to go with his second choice. He's given Gregg plenty of time to think it through and Gregg has to either "fish or that-other thing."
Just a theory.

Posted by: the_squire | January 23, 2008 3:43 PM
Well, this makes sense.
Fassel - Head Coach, but would also replace Saunders acting as OC.
Zorn - Offensive Coordinator, but has no practical NFL OC experience (short period in college at Utah in 90's). Rather, he's a QB Position Coach. So, hiring him as OC eliminates hassles with lateral move compensation, puts two hands (Zorn & Fassel) on Jason Campbell for development. Also, gives Fassel a puppet in the booth for play calling during games. With a new QB-PC and new OC, Campbell & the offense will be going through another learning curve.
Ryan - Defensive Coordinator and Vinny's goombatz. Since this is a lateral move, draft compensation will be due the Ravens. But who needs draft selections? Ryan's big challenge will either be re-casting our 4-3 into his 3-4 vision or converting his own schemes to suit our talent. Either way, someone is going to be going through another learning curve.
Welcome to your new Washington Redskins Redux. New faces, same old results.

Sorry Barno, as someone from "the world" i.e. not just the US, I have to enlighten you for once. Muhammad Ali is world fanous, The Rock is not.
Secondly I believe it's easy to tell a fascist from a doorknob, one is a tool for opening doors (very useful) and the other could be described as "an authoritarian political idealogue that considers the individual subordinate to the interests of the state, party or society as a whole. The key attribute of fascists is an intolerance of others. Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: nationalism, statism, militarism, totalitarianism, anti-communism, corporatism, populism, collectivism, and opposition to political and economic liberalism."
I think cHriSlARRy called it pretty well on you. I was hoping that you really were just arguing intellectually for the heck of it but it seems you're not. Shame.

As for your insinuation that President Bush claimed "mission accomplished" please provide me that direct quote from one of his speeches. As far as I know, that was a quote from a banner placed on an aircraft carrier not by the president nor his people, but by the military. If you wish to badmouth the military, please don't insinuate nor beat around the bush (no pun intended). That's just cowardly.

Hello everyone longtime reader first time poster. I agree that the logical choice if GG. I also think that something of a shakeup is needed. Is it Fossil don't know but as a long time fan I just hope that the decision that Snyder makes is one that he sticks with for at least 6 yrs and see how it all pans out. Maybe just a little bit of trust in your decisions from the owner and his pet would be just what the team needs with no big splash. Also, coconut creme pie is the best of the all.

My take. The Skins were very competitive against the best teams in the NFC. They were in it, on the road, against all 4 NFC division winners. They beat the NFC champs on the road -- in a game they needed.
They played very hard down a tough stretch, with no fluke wins, against teams that were above average.
They have a young and promising QB who has learned a lot, but has a few more steps to take. They had a terrible time with injuries last year.
They have bonded as a team, as much as any team I've ever seen. They are strongly behind one guy for HC.
OK, so is this a team you blow up, or is this a group you ride with. To me, I think you ride with these guys. They were close to being a very good team. And they know they can be a very good team.
So my question is this. Do you blow it up for Fassel?
For Cowher, maybe. But for Fassel? That is sick.

I would not worry who is the coach if Vinny is back to running things.
The only way we are to have any chance if they hire a real front office dude. They might but as it stands this is not goooood. We have reason to dispair.
Stupid no nothing Gibbs haters. This is what you get. You are like the Obama lovers, change change change, who cares to what.

I know - they want Zorn because they want to trade for Michael Vick, and figure Vick will need a LEFT-HANDED former NFL QB AS OC to mentor him to greatness. In fact, trade fir Vick, keep Brunnell, cut Campbell and Portis, and re-sign Ernest Byner, and you can have an all-lefty backfield.

Does it make anyone else sick to their stomach thinking about Vinny's google eyes gazing over prospects, our cap figures, and ultimately our roster?
How about Snyder in the war room or scouting combine looking over 40 times? A 4.8 is good for a WR, right Vinny? Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls a Jerry Jones in that commerical and starts calling the plays next year.
Campbell and the rest of the players must be sick.

Question, if you are Fassel, why would you take this job? Other than the $$$ and that you need the job. And as cynical as any of us can be ... if its about the $$$, thats not the guy you want.
Because if Danny is cleaning house after making the playoffs (and with major injuries, close losses and your best player getting murdered), what is the bar for success?
Nope, it makes no sense to clean house right now.

If you really want Cowher, why not exercise that patience your mentor Joe Gibbs talked about, keep things the same, go with Gregg and the rest of the guy, and try to get a Super Bowl.
If things don't work out, well then you make these drastic changes, hopefully with Cowher.
it just doesn't make sense to do it now, after all that has happened and been said.

Mission Accomplished:
The White House claimed that the banner was requested by the crew of the ship, who did not have the facilities for producing such a banner. Afterwards, the administration and naval sources stated that the banner was the Navy's idea, White House staff members made the banner, and it was hung by the U.S. Navy personnel. White House spokesman Scott McClellan told CNN "We took care of the production of it. We have people to do those things. But the Navy actually put it up."[5] According to John Dickerson of TIME magazine, the White House later conceded that they actually hung the banner but still insists it had been done at the request of the crew members.[6]

I had a bunch of issues with the 2007 Skins coaches and players. But the 2007 Skins were successful. Could Al Saunders done better with Campbell? Yes. Why did Santana Moss wait 10 games before showing up? Can't say for sure. Did Gibbs mismanage some games? Sure did.
But did this team play hard, play with pride and win some tough games against good teams? YESSSSS!!!!! Did they get to the playoffs? YESSSSSS!!!!! Did they improve, despite so many things going wrong during the season? YESSSSSS!!!!!! Were the Skins feared and respected at the end of the season? YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
If you take a good team that is respected and blow it up, it must work or you will never be respected (Vinny, Danny, that is directed at you).
Jim Fassel is not the guy you blow this up for.
Posted by: zcezcest1 | January 23, 2008 4:04 PM
So Snyder has morphed into Jerry Jones and is now determining who will be on the coaches staff? I thought that most coaches enjoyed things like control of the roster and who their assistants were, but I guess if you've been out of the NFL for a few years you'll agree to anything to become a headcoach again.

Jim Fassel: Co-head coach: Quizno's
Doug Williams: Co-head coach: 2nd quarter comebacks
Michael Wilbon: Co-head coach: player slander
Long live the triumverate! But wait, there's more!
Gregg Williams: Asst Head Coach: Who wants to be a millionaire?
Al Saunders: Asst Head Coach: Todd Collins
Jim Schwartz: Asst Head Coach: The Middle Linebacker
Pepper Rodgers: Asst Head Coach: Owner Backrubs
Brian Billick: Asst Head Coach: Self Backrubs
Jim Zorn: O Coordinator: Passing Downs
Vinny Cerrato: Vice President of the Peter Principle
Dan Snyder: Puppetmaster

Tom Friend (ESPN) has reportedly posted stuff to the extremeskins board:
Okay, now that it's all coming out, I can tell you what I know.
Jim Zorn has emerged as the leading candidate to be Offensive Coordinator, ahead of John Ramsdell (Chargers QB coach) and Mike Shula (Jags QB coach).
Rex Ryan is a contract negotiation away from being D-Coordinator, and I'm assuming they'll outbid the Ravens for him.
The heirarchy wants to keep Byner, Bugel and Blache from the previous staff. All others are probably gone.
Snyder simply does not trust or mesh with Gregg Williams, and the debacle of '06 is what started that. The heirarchy felt Williams was arrogant, stubborn and not forthright that year, and another red flag was his horrible relationship with Ralph Wilson in Buffalo. It was too much for Williams to overcome. Just wasn't a good fit here.
------------------------------------
Since I posted, I hear it's mayhem again.
Snyder's interviewing Zorn without Fassel! Shouldn't your next coach be there?
Fassel is in Phoenix and knows nothing yet.
Rex Ryan also knows nothing yet.
They're leaving everyone hanging, and ships might sail, including Rex Ryan's. Snyder is apparently holding all this up. Does he go back to Williams? For the moment, it's in limbo again. For the moment.

No decent coach in his right mind would want to be the head coach of the Redskins except for one reason... money. And that's exactly what you don't want, someone looking for a big pay day. So, Grilliams probably said in his last interview "hey Napoleon, shell out the cash or I'm out of here because no coach would work for you and Beavis unless they were getting paid a lot to be quiet". I would be amazed to see Williams back here next year. I hope I'm wrong.

But "improved... during the season" is just another way of saying "weren't ready for the start of the season" and "never got it together until a major external event that won't be repeated next year." And those are coaching issues.
This team didn't (and doesn't) have the talent to win a Superbowl, but what we saw this season was that under a normal NFL season, it also didn't have the leadership to even make a reasonable try at getting there.
So why NOT blow it up? You're not gonna kill the best player on the team next fall just to get everyone to pay attention and execute the playbooks. And that's what it took in 2007.
(And for pie? Apple, all the way. Squeeze a whole lot of that lemon juice that comes in a plastic lemon on the apples before you put them in the crust.)

Being a die hard Skins fan has been extremely tough ever since Dan Snyder took over the team. It seems as though every year we make the playoffs or have a good season, the following year instead of building on the previous year, we completely revamp the team and/or coaching staff. We are without a doubt the laughing stock of the league when it comes to the front office. Philly, NYG, and Dallas have nothing to worry about because we are not operating like a professional football team. After the 1999 playoff season, we revamped the whole team with the signing of multiple "big name" veterans, which didn't work. In 2001, after coming back from an 0-5 start and finishing 8-8 with seemingly no big names on the team, we fired the Marty and revamped the coaching staff with the hiring of the biggest joke of em all, Steve Spurrier. In 2005, after a playoff berth, we completely revamp our offense after Cooley, Moss, Brunell, and Portis had record breaking years. Now here it is 2008, after a 2007 playoff berth and the resignation of Joe Gibbs, we are looking at revamping the complete team again, which is absolutely MIND BOGGLING!! I cannot believe Gregg Williams isn't named head coach yet.

If I was Cambpell I'd play out my contract and get the hell out of D.C. It's as if the owner doesn't even take into consideration the fact that Cambpell needs stability for the first time in his career. I know players need to adjust to any situation, but come on, the offense was stellar when it was run by somebody who was familiar with it. By his third year in it, I think Campbell would of flourished. He took major steps in it this year when the receivers weren't dropping passes. Now a whole new system? I'm not joking when I say this...I think Snyder has went off the deep end when Gibbs retired. There is no explanation for interviewing a new coach and possibly ruining what was the most consistent part of this team: The Defense. Whether rumors or not, I'm disgusted with this charade.

Suz, actually meant they improved over prior seasons ... but they had injuries and other major stuff during this past season.
But the point is that this is a team going in a better direction then they have in any time in Snyder's entire tenure. You can dismiss getting to the playoffs, but those trips have been pretty rare. And this was a competitive team against every other team (save the Pats). With the 2nd toughest schedule in the entire NFL.
If you blow it up, is Jim Fassel sound like the guy who you want to rebuild it?
