Pedro Taylor On Comcast
My friends at Comcast have pulled off something pretty cool for this weekend and I urge the RI faithful to watch their pre and post game coverage Saturday.
Perdor Taylor, father of slain safety Sean Taylor, will be onset with them from Bethesda this weekend, the network said. Here's the info from Comcast Sportsnet, hot off the presses:
Pedro Taylor will be a guest on Redskins Kickoff on Comcast SportsNet this Saturday from 3:00-4:30pm. He will be on set with host Chick Hernandez and former Redskins Ray Brown and LaVar Arrington.
Chief Taylor will also be a part of our Redskins Post Game Live show, with Chick, Ray, LaVar and Brian Mitchell.
Should be a pretty interesting watch. The last time the Skins played in Seattle Ray and LaVar factored in majorly. Ray was already filling in for Randy Thomas and got hurt in the game, while LaVar nailed Shaun Alexander early in the game and ended the day for the then NFL-MVP.

Perdor at our first paloff game, that is great. Thanks for the heads up Jasno.
In all seriousness, very cool.

I will sure to watch both the pre-game and post-game victory party.

Any chance any of this Comcast jive is accessible online/out of market?
Man, I do miss LaVar at times. See Exhibits Aikman and Alexander. Thanks for the memories. Guess I'll have to run by his restaurant next time I'm at FedEx. ;^)

That's what I remember from our last playoff game with them, we came out and punched them in the mouth, LaVar speared Alexander, and it was on. Hope we can finish the job this weekend, I've got a good feeling like lots of others here that we can and will.

My biggest memory of the game 2 years ago in Seattle is Ray Brown walking off the field before the end of the game. He was walking right towards my seat, as I was right at the skins tunnel. I could tell by the look on his face that he was done, and he was walking off the field for the final time as a redskin and as a professional football player. I gave him a 1 man standing O. Dude is all class, a true professional, and a true redskin.
Hail!

It's one game at a time, but I gotta tell ya I'm pretty confident about this game. Not arrogant or taking it lightly, but confident in our team and their ability now to finish the job. I wouldn't have said that a month ago, but the Redskin world has changed so much in the past six weeks.
This team is a keg of dynamite just waiting to explode in the playoffs. They are right now THE best team in the NFC with the most balance on offense and defense. They are peaking at just the right time, and they are both underdogs yet winning the hearts of this sports nation with how they're playing for Sean. It's a great story that is only going to get better over the coming month.....:0)

Well, I'm as worried as all get out about the game.....we have not faced a QB like Hasselbeck lately (Romo does not count) and the Seahawks have a very good D and a very loud atmosphere. Not to mention we have some young starters (Heyer in particular will be challenged by Kearney) who may have stars in their eyes. We have not traveled far at all for any of our games this season - certainly not to the West Coast.
And my biggest concern is that winning 5 games straight is extremely difficult.
Posted by: Lisa_R | January 3, 2008 10:38 PM
try winning 16 games straight.....
For those out of market fans who don't get CSN, you are not missing anything. Lavar is better on the field.....

Dr. Z says:
Washington Redskins (9-7)
Preseason 6-10. I ran into Dan Snyder at the league meetings in March. "You gonna pick us to lose again?" he said. "Please pick us to lose. I love it when you pick us to lose." And as he turned to his guests for the inevitable applause, I vowed that I would not disappoint this fine gentleman.

NOTES, QUOTES
--The NFL recognized Todd Collins' brilliant December by naming the Redskins' unexpected quarterback the NFC Offensive Player of The Month. Collins has a sterling 106.4 passer rating with five touchdowns, no interceptions, 888 yards and a 63.8 completion percentage. "The attention is fine, (but) it's really not why I play," said Collins, who had thrown just 27 passes in 10 years before replacing an injured Jason Campbell in the Dec. 6 game against Chicago.
--CB Shawn Springs is excited to be going back to Seattle -- where he started from 1997-2003 -- in better shape than he did for the playoff game two years ago, when he had the start of a sports hernia that had sidelined him the previous week at Tampa Bay and would postpone the start of his 2006 season until late October. "I'm a totally different person than I was (then)," said Springs, who has four interceptions during Washington's current four-game winning streak. "I feel a lot better."
--Covering a fourth-quarter kickoff last Sunday against Dallas, reserve WR James Thrash aggravated the left high ankle sprain that sidelined him for four games in November and December. "Hopefully I can do something (Thursday)," said Thrash, wearing a walking boot. "It's not as bad as it was last time."
Thrash missed the Seattle playoff game two years ago after breaking his thumb the week before at Tampa Bay.
BY THE NUMBERS: 3-0 -- Redskins coach Joe Gibbs' record in wild-card playoff games on the road. Washington won at Philadelphia in 1990, at Minnesota in 1992 and at Tampa Bay in 2005.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I love the way he runs the double move. He'll be running full speed and it's like he's sitting in a chair." -- Antwaan Randle El on fellow Redskins receiver Santana Moss.
STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL
PLAYER PERSONNEL NOTES
--WR James Thrash is in a walking boot with a left high ankle sprain. He was on the field for Wednesday's walkthrough.
--QB Jason Campbell remains sidelined with a dislocated kneecap and was only the player not on the field for Wednesday's walkthrough.
--WR Santana Moss caught his 200th pass as a Redskin last week.
--CB Fred Smoot's 99th career start will be his first in the playoffs.
--G Pete Kendall started for Seattle from 1996-2000.
GAME PLAN: The Redskins present plenty of headaches for a quick and solid Seattle defense that laid down last week at Atlanta with nothing to play for after sealing the No. 3 seed. RB Clinton Portis has been running hard and has emerged as another target for Todd Collins, the NFC's hottest QB. WR Santana Moss is a hot downfield threat, while TE Chris Cooley and WR Antwaan Randle El have been effective underneath.
Where the Redskins focused on stopping RB Shaun Alexander during their 2005 playoff matchup, the former MVP has had just two 100-yard games this year, none since September. With the Seahawks ground game faltering, QB Matt Hasselbeck has carried the offensive load, falling just 34 yards shy of 4,000 yards and throwing 28 TDs. Washington will likely try to make Hasselbeck throw when and where he doesn't want to.
MATCHUPS TO WATCH: Redskins CB Shawn Springs vs. Seahawks WR Deion Branch -- Former Seahawk Springs has had a terrific year, particularly lately with four interceptions in four games and blanking the Giants' Amani Toomer in the game he went pick-less. Branch, the Super Bowl XXXIX MVP, hasn't had a big year but obviously has come up big in postseason.
Redskins OT Stephon Heyer vs. Seahawks DE Patrick Kerney -- Rookie free agent Heyer has shone since becoming a starter, stoning Giants Hall of Fame lock Michael Strahan. Kerney, who had three double-digit sack years in six seasons in Atlanta, had an NFC-best 14 1/2 sacks in his Seattle debut, 10 1/2 at very loud Qwest Field.
Redskins RB Clinton Portis vs. Seahawks MLB Lofa Tatupu -- New QB Todd Collins has been lights out. WR Santana Moss has been great, but Portis remains the heart of the Washington offense. Portis averaged 102 yards the last three games with three TDs. Tatupu, a Pro Bowl pick, has led the Seahawks in tackles in each of his three years.
INJURY IMPACT: If Thrash can't play, veteran WR Keenan McCardell would be active for the first time in three weeks.

Perdor, Perdor, why does that sound so familiar?
Oh right, that's where Fordo and Gam Snee had to take the ring, with Glum.
Posted by: NateinthePDX | January 3, 2008 11:07 PM
SERIES HISTORY: 15th meeting. Redskins lead series, 9-5, including the last four regular-season meetings. However, the Seahawks won the last meeting, 20-10, a postseason game in the 2005 divisional playoffs the year the Seahawks advanced to the Super Bowl.
NOTES, QUOTES
--With DE Baraka Atkins being placed on injured reserve, DT Ellis Wyms will play both positions against the Redskins. "It's no big deal," Wyms said. "I have played both in the past. The only difference is one is closer to the football."
--In the meeting in 2005, Shaun Alexander suffered a first-quarter concussion and did not return. "I remember everyone making fun of me," Alexander said. "Someone on our team scored. I was jumping up and down and I remember everyone making fun of me about that. Besides that, I don't remember too much about the game."
--Seahawks rookie Josh Wilson grew up just outside Washington D.C., though unlike his family, he wasn't a Redskins fan. He rooted for the Detroit Lions because of Barry Sanders. He once held a job at FedEx Field selling concessions. His family, however, is Redskins fans and rooting against him.
--Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck came to Tuesday's practice wearing a mustache. It was gone on Wednesday. "It was really bad," Hasselbeck said. "My two-year-old son, he was trying to rip it off. He thought it was fake."
--Because there is not a lot of film on Redskins QB Todd Collins, Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said his defense will prepare more for the scheme. "You're really playing not so much against the man," Holmgren said. "You're playing against what you see on film and the system. I think that's how you prepare because there isn't a lot of film on him."
--Holmgren said that when Joe Gibbs was coaching in Washington the first time around, Holmgren was supposed to fly there for a job interview after Bill Walsh left San Francisco. However, Walsh's replacement, George Seifert, offered Holmgren a job and Holmgren never interviewed with Gibbs.
--The Redskins have four former Seahawks players: Randall Godfrey, Shawn Springs, Pete Kendall and Phillip Daniels.
BY THE NUMBERS: 33,586 -- Numbers of miles the Seahawks have flown to away games this season, second most in the league only to San Francisco.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "It's a little bit of 'be careful what you wish for' because if you want more responsibility, you have to do a lot more work and you're a lot more accountable as well." -- Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck, when Mike Holmgren made him the focus of the offense.
STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL
If flanker Deion Branch is able to recover from a calf strain and start, it will be only the third game this season that Branch and split end D.J. Hackett have played together. That would make Bobby Engram, the team's leading receiver, the third receiver in the slot, though the Seahawks have used that more since throwing more passes.
DT Rocky Bernard should return from a two-game absence, meaning Craig Terrill will come back off the bench. Ellis Wyms will get time at both tackle and end since DE Baraka Atkins was placed on IR. His time will be limited, however.
OT Walter Jones will play, sending Floyd Womack back to the bench, though Womack may see time at OG.
PLAYER PERSONNEL NOTES
--WR Deion Branch did not practice on Wednesday because of a calf strain. He is questionable for Saturday's game.
--LB Niko Koutouvides did not practice because of a knee injury. He is doubtful for the game against Washington.
--QB Matt Hasselbeck, who jammed his wrist on Sunday, went through his second full day of practice and will play on Saturday.
--RB Shaun Alexander, suffering from a wrist injury all season and who had a minor rib injury, practiced on Wednesday and will play on Saturday.
--OT Walter Jones, who missed the team's last game, practiced on Wednesday and will play on Saturday.
GAME PLAN: With Washington possessing the league's fourth-ranked run defense, and an inexperienced secondary that is partially the result of the death of Sean Taylor, the Seahawks once again will take to the air behind the arm of QB Matt Hasselbeck. Defensively, the Seahawks must stop the running attack of Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts and watch for the deep play-action passes by Todd Collins.
MATCHUPS TO WATCH: Seahawks WRs, who could be fully together for only the third time this season, vs. Redskins Ss LaRon Landry, a rookie, and Reed Doughty, with two years' experience.
Redskins RB Clinton Portis, who amassed 1,262 yards this season, vs. Seahawks defensive line, which is ranked 12th against the run and gets back Rocky Bernard.
INJURY IMPACT: Hasselbeck banged his wrist in Sunday's loss to Atlanta, but has practiced both times this week. He is not likely to be 100 percent but is in good enough shape to start.
OT Walter Jones has sore shoulders, but he has had them all season and it should not affect his performance.
Bernard has a sore groin, but he has rested it for two games and should be ready to go against the Redskins.

rickyroge/sicwidit, your question at the tail end of the last thread about catching some old-skool hip hip in Seattle... did you mean in general, or this weekend?

Indifferent Korny Back "On 1500" - 1/3 - We already knew it. But now we hear it from the horse's mouth. Kind of. Washington Post superstar sports columnist Tony Kornheiser (right) confirmed that he will return to the radio on "the 17th or 21st... whatever that Monday is..." The Washington Post "bailed out" on its old radio station, said Kornheiser, who did admit that you'll be able to hear him "on 1500" AM. No mention of the station's name - 3WT - and that his 8 AM show can also be heard on 107.7 FM and 820 AM. Check out the video at washingtonpost.com.....

Nevermind, Riggo is happy again.
Why is it 11:20pm and there is still 11 mins left?? The halftime show must have been 30 mins long....

It was lame anyway, 4th... someone else made a joke on Jasno's spelling above. But thanks.
And thanks for posting all the stuff you're posting. Better than having to hunt for stuff.

Hello fellow blogpeeps.....
I have 1 ticket left and cannot believe that I cannot find a taker amongst my PDX pals. Stumptown Chris and Nate will be hangin' together in Portland at a favorite watering hole and one of my friends could not get his manhood back from his wife to be able attend.
So.....if anyone is looking for a ticket..let me know. I paid $165...but will let it go for much less if I have to. The proud new owner of this ticket will be seated in Section 307 Row P (Redskins side, under cover) next to Nick from San Diego, a rabid Redskins fan, my wife (who just went out today and had her nails done in burgundy and gold) , Freakzilla, the funniest guy on this blog and Stumped, a true fan if there ever was one.
So...let me know if I can find a taker. I hate to lose money on this...but if I cannot I guess I'll have to because I refuse to sell it to a SeaHag fan.
P.S. I can't believe my wife actually went out and did this. I thought she knew I was kidding. I guess she really does love me.

same ticket in both posts by the way.
dc- if you can't move it, i'll help you absorb the cost of the ticket.

I'll also feed the kitty if that ticket goes unsold, dchandl3. You held it for me, so I at least owe you a few days' rent.

Nick and Nate,
Although your offers are more than generous, its all good. Just buy me a drink at Pdiddy's party. I'm also pretty glad I didn't go down on the 8 seats in the 100 section...now that might have left a mark...not here, and not here...but right here.

Funny thing,
Running down I 83 from PA to my J O B... I listen to 105.7 the X... they had an NFL analyst on this am, but I missed the beginning so I didnt know who it was.
At the end they said "Great NFL analyst, redskins great on IR, Ross Tucker"
The rooster is making moves!
Posted by: Zebraskins | January 4, 2008 6:58 AM
Ross Tucker is a native of Wyomissing, PA. Maybe that explains the "great" label, which may run towards hyperbole.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ross_Tucker
"No notable achievements." zing!
Posted by: NateinthePDX | January 4, 2008 7:01 AM
Also I didn't know he was great at either, and I'm pretty sure we bought him out of his contract, but good for him either way.

Nate, you been up all night?
Posted by: Zebraskins | January 4, 2008 7:04 AM
Early bird gets the worm, gets a chunk of work done early in the day, gets on the road to Seattle this afternoon with Stumptown Chris...

Nice, how long is that drive?
Posted by: Zebraskins | January 4, 2008 7:19 AM
And c'mon, if I'd been up all night there would be a lot more jibba jabba posted up here!
I am repping it to death -- not that anyone else is in the office yet this morning, but they'll be here eventually -- with my Riggo jersey.
Posted by: NateinthePDX | January 4, 2008 7:20 AM
It's about 2.5 hours from Portland to Seattle, up I-5. A not unpleasant drive under normal traffic conditions, even in the rain (and I've driven it in a monsoon).
Pretty much open country between here and there. You zoom past Mount St. Helens and Olympia (freakzilla's location) and Mount Rainier and boom! you're right there in the greater Seattle area.

Wonder if we'll hear from Jasno before he boards his flight -- didn't he make a vague promise to get something up that he'd been working on? A scouting report or something?

I enjoyed watching Sean's dad address the team and coaches I'm a true redskins fan and I just want to say that losing Sean has bought so much out of players and the special part was to hear Joe Gibbs say that players have receive Jesus as their lord and savior and that's the most important thing of this season. Sean loved his team that much that god chose him to save them that's love and we know that thru this winning streak that Sean's memory will live on. Mr. Taylor I admire you and I know that lil Jackie will grow up to be another example of your awesome nurturing stay strong you're such an inspiration.
