Zorn on Brunell

As told to Maske at the Combine: "We're trying to figure out his situation too. He's trying to figure out his situation. He wants to be a number two as well. He's highly competitive. He's had a great career and he still has some stuff left. I know he wants to be a number two. That's down the road. And again, I wouldn't have him coming back thinking, 'Woe is me. I'm number three. I'm never gonna play again in my life.' He's got to keep pushing, too. These guys have got to do it themselves. They have to consider that in their own minds."

Sorry! Went to lunch....

Recap -

I have to admit - Some of the things you need to take wit ha grain of salt.

• He says he is looking at this from a fans point of view.

• He said he talked to GG after he left the Redskins and he won't discuss the specifics. But said he should've been the next HC

• He basically slammed Gibbs 2.0

• He basically said Snyder used Gibbs as cover for the last 4 years because the fans won't slam Gibbs.

• He says everyone keeps jumping ship on the Redskins whether it's a player or coaches.

• Said Gibbs is one of them since he left with one year on the contract. Basically called him out.

• He said its not about winning and really about the $$

• He said he feel the team will use the #28 & #81 HOF ceremony as cover for the current year.

• Said the place is not conducive to winning at the moment.

How do you know when your career is over? When your goal is to be number two.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | February 22, 2008 2:32 PM

A #2 for a few games. Would not want him as my #2 if JC gets hurt in first couple of weeks.

I know this was almost seven years ago, and I'm not implying anything but this was just too weird...

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Shawn Springs was suspended for four games yesterday for violating N.F.L. policy on anabolic steroids and related substances.

Springs, 26, will miss games against San Diego, Denver, Dallas and the Giants. Selected from Ohio State with the third overall pick in the 1997 draft, Springs entered this season with a string of 49 consecutive starts. He is eligible to return on Dec. 24, for the last two games of the season. (Reuters)

ARRESTED, RELEASED: Fullback Mike Sellers, arrested last week, was released yesterday by the Cleveland Browns for a combination of reasons.

Sellers, who pleaded not guilty to felony drug abuse charges, was expected to be reinstated by Coach Butch Davis, but the team instead decided to cut its ties with the free agent who signed a three-year, $2.4 million contract in February. (AP)

RedDelMarVa, you never heard of the ides of late November?

I most defintely agree with Lavar on that one.

Essentially my point since first joining the blog (and the thought that I had the moment I heard about the re-hire).

RedDMV - What part of the pennisula you live in?

I think Big Mike was with the wrong person when this happened. His passenger had the drugs and he claimed he knew nothing about it.

Posted by: jimwell | February 22, 2008 2:43 PM

Don't make excuses for Sellers. He owned up to it before and admitted his mistake already on ComcastSporstNet I believe........

Posted by: 4thFloor | February 22, 2008 2:45 PM

If they keep Brunell then they have to continue to restructure his contract with big cap hits, I think $6.5 million in 2008. I know JLC said his contract is void but I think we need to rid ourselves of that problem.

Northern VA

Posted by: RedDMV | February 22, 2008 2:48 PM

Ok. I went to school out Princess Anne (Somerset County) for a while. Feels like I went back in time 40 years while I was there.......

Posted by: 4thFloor | February 22, 2008 2:50 PM

Wait N. VA? So you don't live on the Pennensula?

Posted by: 4thFloor | February 22, 2008 2:51 PM

I have a hunch Brunell, like Leftwich, won't survive March 1st. Also like Leftwich, I think he has a shot at a starter position for the first few games with one of the more craptacularly QB-desperate teams that need a guy with experience to train the rookie hire ... Jets, Vikings, there have to be others. Does San Fran even have a QB?

Posted by: dcsween | February 22, 2008 2:53 PM

Has Blache or Zorn said anything about C. Griff? I assume he is staying?

Posted by: zornskins | February 22, 2008 2:53 PM

4th, that was me messing around with the explanation of the name RedDMV (which is DC - MD - VA).

Posted by: dcsween | February 22, 2008 2:54 PM

Miami and Kansas City probably will need trainer QBs to be their respective #2 guys as well.

From the live ESPN Mosley/Sando blog from the Combine a little while ago:

... New Redskins coach Jim Zorn is now at the podium. Just overheard him talking about quarterback Jason Campbell.

"I don't want Jason Campbell to think, 'Oh my gosh, if I make one mistake, I'm going to get pulled from the game.' He's going to play 16 games, he's going to lead us to the playoffs, and that's that."

Zorn is an unbelievably positive guy. Sando used to cover him as a beat guy, so he's front and center right now. I think the Redskins media will like this guy. Really outgoing.

Posted by: dcsween | February 22, 2008 3:00 PM

Zorn might have sympathy for Brunell because he's a lefty. But all things being equal I might cut the lefty. It can be hard for receivers to adjust to lefties. Saw a thing on Rice and how it took a lot of work to adjust to Young after years with Montana. That said, Brunell seemed to click with Santana.

Posted by: skinfanman | February 22, 2008 3:01 PM

• He said its not about winning and really about the $$ - Shows just how unintelligent Lavar is, and how he should just shut his yapper. Winning=MONEY, you moron. You don't think that winning the super bowl has been a wind-fall for the Giants?

• Said the place is not conducive to winning at the moment - Pretty good insight, except that Lavar isn't around the place, and they made the playoffs 2 of the previous 3 years.

Lavar, your 15 minutes is up...time to move on.

Posted by: gregmarino88 | February 22, 2008 3:04 PM

Without coming out and saying it directly, Zorn has implied that Brunell needs to find another team.

beep beep

(look at new post)

Posted by: _Stumped_ | February 22, 2008 6:44 PM

Brunnel was damaged when he came here 5 seasons ago. He is not very good at checking off covered recievers and is only effective when the primary reciever is open. Unlike when he was new in the league he would have a tough time outrunning a turtle at this stage of his career. Jason Campbell has been around long enough now that if he does not produce the kind of results that Eli did next season the Skins should get rid of him and trade for a quarterback with game

Posted by: F_Barno | February 25, 2008 12:21 PM

If I were Zorn? Brunell, gone. Sellers, gone. Cartwright, gone. Jensen, gone. Randle-El, lose 15 lbs, or you're gone.
Oh, I could keep going, but then we'd need 48 new guys; which is what the Skins need!
