Zorn on Todd Collins
As told to Maske at the Combine: "Todd Collins is a free agent. He's a guy that I'm concerned about, that we try to nail down if we can. ... because he's a veteran [and] because he proved to himself, he proved to the football team that it can be confident in him if he has to go in and play. I think he'll be good for Jason. Again, it's a veteran instructing a younger guy when I'm not in the room. I just think that he has a sense of rhythm and he has the sense of timing that it takes to run plays and get the ball out. He's learned different systems. He hasn't always been in one system. He'll only have to learn some of the facets of it."
Zorn said he has spoken to Collins.
"He's got to make sure he does his due diligence, too. He is a free agent. I'm not concerned about that. He's going to do what's best for himself, his family. I'm hoping that he would do what's best for the Washington Redskins. That will be something that he has to figure out for himself, and then hopefully we can put it together."
Zorn said Campbell would be the clear starter.
"There's competition. I don't think that Todd should come in here feeling like, 'I'm never going to play. Woe is me.' He'd better come in thinking that he's got to get himself ready. He's got to push Jason and take over if he can. And then Jason has got to think to himself, 'I'm the guy. This is my team. I'm not looking back.' "

He said its not about winning and really about the $$ - Shows just how unintelligent Lavar is, and how he should just shut his yapper. Winning=MONEY, you moron. You don't think that winning the super bowl has been a wind-fall for the Giants?
• Said the place is not conducive to winning at the moment - Pretty good insight, except that Lavar isn't around the place, and they made the playoffs 2 of the previous 3 years.
Lavar, your 15 minutes is up...time to move on.

Sorry! Went to lunch....
Recap -
I have to admit - Some of the things you need to take wit ha grain of salt.
• He says he is looking at this from a fans point of view.
• He said he talked to GG after he left the Redskins and he won't discuss the specifics. But said he should've been the next HC
• He basically slammed Gibbs 2.0
• He basically said Snyder used Gibbs as cover for the last 4 years because the fans won't slam Gibbs.
• He says everyone keeps jumping ship on the Redskins whether it's a player or coaches.
• Said Gibbs is one of them since he left with one year on the contract. Basically called him out.
• He said its not about winning and really about the $$
• He said he feel the team will use the #28 & #81 HOF ceremony as cover for the current year.
• Said the place is not conducive to winning at the moment.

LaVar has hit the BONG too much in his time off.
BONG!

John Clayton is reporting that the Moose is drawing interest from the Skins.
Muhammad drawing interest: Former Bears wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad is getting interest from the Redskins, Panthers and 49ers. Muhammad was released by the Bears on Feb. 18 after three years in Chicago.
I don't see this as an upgrade. Also the Times mentioned Zorn hasn't spoken to B. Lloyd yet, but would like to. The three receivers mention in Zorns conversation were Moss, El, Mix.

good grief. and i was thinking maybe it was someone important. who the heck cares what lavar thinks about anything? he was burned by the organization and he's going to trash it no matter what.
Lavar is just looking for an excuse to generate buzz and get on TV - since his football career is over, he probably wants a gig like keyshawn. bashing his former team and trying to sound "insightful" is just his ploy to get employed.

No thanks to Moose.
Lavar needs to go away. Just. Go. Away.

Did Zorn really say "Woe is me" when discussing both QBs? Weird.

Greg, I can sort of see what LaVar means.
Of course there is really only 1 'winner' every year, but when you see teams like the Patriots and Clots you see teams that are set-up to win from top to bottom. They exhibit a quiet confidence that is underpinned by an arrogant streak.
The Gints last year seemed to overlay quiet confidence with their arrogance, almost as a defense mechanism, but again you could see it ran through their team.
Most teams affect one of those approaches but you can 'see' they're faking it. The Steelers tried to talk themselves up but couldn't back it up. The Jags still don't really seem to believe they can live with the big guys. The Cowgrrls just have TO blathering on backed but not much. The Lions sounded shrill when Kitna was 'ga-ron-teeing' their 10-win season, etc.
Jasno was spectacularly wrong about his 'air of success' or however he put it at the Ravens, but you know when you encounter people who truly believe in their abilities, whether they are overt about it or not. Gibbs' self-deprecating style of communication HAD to bleed over into the psyche of the team too. I never heard him 'raise the bar' on the team, he always sought to protect them seemingly by lowering expectations, and you can't always do that.
Sometimes you have to use the phrase Sergei Bubka always used to motivate himself: "If not me, who? If not now, when?"
Isn't a reflection on the quality of players, just that the psychology of the Skins 'team' was fragile - except for that great run at the end of last year. At least 30 teams are that fragile every year!

RC, I appreciate your perspective, but Lavar is nothing more than a bitter ex-employee. How could he possibly have his finger on the pulse of what is going on down at Redskins Park?
Sorry...I'm stupid...but not that stupid..

Ah, its that fun time of year when EVERY free agent is linked to the Redskins....

You may well be right about that, only LaVar knows how honest he's being and what his motives are for saying what he said.
I think one thing you should expect though is that a Zorn-led team will be better prepared psychologically because I think that Zorn will emphasize that side of the game much more than Gibbs ever would.

"Woe is Greg" for being an assclown, who thinks he knows everything about the Skins organization.

I would think that due to his proximity to the players (friendships and all), he probably has a better pulse of the team than any of us do. I think Lavar had some valid points, but that's just my opinion.
And as far as RC's assessment of the Gibbs protection regime, it's pretty difficult to judge what Gibbs did based purely on his media press conferences. I would be willing to bet my life that Gibbs wasn't what he seemed behind closed doors. "They" used to say that Lombardi would constantly rip his players for everyone to see, but praise them non-stop when nobody was looking. I can see Gibbs being close to the opposite. Letting the media focus all their attention on him, while the players get the free pass in the open. Behind the scenes though, it very well may have been a different story. There's a reason why these players were so passionate when they played for him, and I don't think it's because he mothered them. He got every player to hold themselves accountable, and it showed in the emotion the players played with on game-day.

I think you're right on the money there psps, but ONLY for the last 5 weeks of the season. Portis has gone on the record as complaining that the offense didn't prepare 'hard' enough before.
Gibbs 1.0 was definitely a hard driver, but anecdotal evidence at least suggests that in Gibbs 2.0 he backed off of that a little and put other people between himself and the team in key areas - except for that last month.
Anyway who cares what I think about this? The work week is nearly done - hurrah!

Thanks for some insight Zebraskins. As for my opposing bloggers. i deal with grief every day... I am a funeral director. As i tell my families, keep your loved one in the back of you mind and in the centre of your heart but continue with your daily lives and keep busy.

Sounds like he was part of the problem.

You know, I like Zorn and Collins. Collins was very atient to get his chance and deserved it. But Collins can't be nearly as good a backup ever has he was this year.

Well, collins might not be nearly as good a backup this year as last but he's still a better QB than the stiff that was handed the job
