poolman,
Where were you on our march to 100k?
Posted by: _Stumped_ | March 31, 2008 1:47 PM
Stumped, I thought you were going to start posting every time the sun came out and went away in Portland. That would get us to 200k by July.

LH - I responded yesterday, but my post keept getting eaten by loosable type.
I feel you on your response is what I basically said......

So this is how it's going to be then, eh? The NFL is going to trickle out the schedule in tiny little bits, as if they're delivering tiny shards of diamonds? Like the stupid MLB postseason awards, announced a couple a day as if they're announcements from God. Good grief.
Release the full schedule already, league! Some of us have trips to plan!
Posted by: NateinthePDX | March 31, 2008 1:50 PM
This is how they do it and it is indeed very annoying! The rest of the sked will magically appear one day in April...
Posted by: TheCindy | March 31, 2008 1:52 PM
The league is using viral marketing to release the schedule this year...It worked for Cloverfield.
Posted by: Original_etrod | March 31, 2008 1:53 PM
Yea, the ubiquitous sucker holes!
God love them. Posting that kind of stuff would be a full time job.
Well, the blooms on my Camellia have all turned brown and fallen to the ground. We've had rain, sleet, hail and snow in the past few days. Tomorrow the sun will burn through the haze and we'll hear the Beavers yell: "play ball."
[then there will be a two hour rain delay]
Posted by: _Stumped_ | March 31, 2008 1:57 PM
Baseball has been very very good to me.
Watching opening day from my classroom. Go Nats! Could they be above .500 in April? Keep it up.

PacMan's strength is as a return guy, and so of "eh" at corner. I disagree with Sports_Guru that he was one strike and out. The guy is a career ne'er to well. I don't care if the Cowboys sign the "rights" to hire him ... he will be allowed to play again in the NFL about the same time as Michael Vick.
Re: the playoff seeding change, I don't like it. I don't like the idea of bye weeks at all. In my mind, the way to go far is win in December with a slightly above average record (i.e., better based on common opponents). Sound familiar? Also, wild cards get a mental boost by beating a division winner. Finally, I hate change. So much so, that when I get a Sacajawea dollar, I just throw it in the street.

I like that the Skins play on a Thursday night and then get 10 days off. Kind of a half bye week.

sween, Sacajawea bucks are so eight years ago. You might as well toss those into (or across) the river.
It's all about the comprehensive dead presidents series now! I'm so psyched for Martin Van Buren this fall -- he's the MVB!

Re: playoff seeding -
You guys need to open your eyes if you are against this. The NFC East consistently sends at least 1 and sometimes both of the wildcard teams to the playoffs. That would give the skins a chance to get a home game if their record is better than other conference division winners but didn't win ours.......
Posted by: 4thFloor | March 31, 2008 2:04 PM
Amen NateinthePDX..... I've got Nascar,Bat Mitzvahs, and Aneversarys to plan around in the Fall!!!!!
Posted by: meatshalom | March 31, 2008 2:08 PM
I agree that we need to start getting replacements ready for Jansen and Kendall, but if we use the 3rd and 4th rounds of this and next yrs. draft, that should take care of it.
Posted by: hallen1007 | March 31, 2008 01:38 PM
This is an excellent plan, considering that the Redskins don't have a 4th round pick in either 2008 (Duckett) or 2009 (Kendall). After all, why waste picks we don't have anyway? Maybe we can trade the 4th round pick in 2010 for Pac-Man, since they seem to have little value to the Skins.
Posted by: tafka | March 31, 2008 2:09 PM
ta, where ya been? Haven't heard from you in a while?
Posted by: gregmarino88 | March 31, 2008 01:47 PM
greg -- Kids' spring break. The older one went on a class trip to Mexico and we took the younger one on an eating vacation to New Orleans.
Posted by: talent_evaluator | March 31, 2008 2:12 PM
Again, no to pacman. No to CJ. No to making any trades, except backwards. Yes to Albert, yes to Nelson.
Posted by: gregmarino88 | March 31, 2008 2:14 PM
Only 2 years until Millard Filmore!
I'm for the seeding changes although I don't know how much of a difference it would make for the NFC. Division winners would get the tie breaker so if 2 or 3 10-6 teams get in, the seedings would shake out the same way. I think an 11 win team should get the home game against a 10 win team, anyway. it just makes sense.
Lucky for us the skins will be 16-0 this year and don't have to worry about that stuff.
Posted by: Original_etrod | March 31, 2008 2:15 PM
An eating vacation?
Posted by: tafka | March 31, 2008 2:15 PM
Etrod - the real question is whether an 8-8 Seahawks team should be higher seeded (and have home field for at least one game) than an NFC East team at 10-6.
Posted by: tafka | March 31, 2008 2:17 PM
(When the 10-6 NFC East team finishes second to a 12-2 NFC East team, and the Seahawks win their division with 8-8.)
Posted by: tafka | March 31, 2008 2:18 PM
ta, sounds like a good time was had by all...good to have you back.
Posted by: gregmarino88 | March 31, 2008 2:18 PM
Tafka - that would be a No.
Posted by: Original_etrod | March 31, 2008 2:19 PM
Well, 12-4 anyway.
Posted by: tafka | March 31, 2008 2:20 PM

Posted by: dcsween | March 31, 2008 02:01 PM
It will be great if the 'Skins win the opener, but what if they lose? Imagine the posts up here. Ten days of trashing: Zorn, Snyder, Cerrato, Jasno, plus three yet-to-be-named Goats of the Opener. It will make for a long mini-bye week.
Posted by: talent_evaluator | March 31, 2008 2:20 PM
So that's the issue anyway - the NFC West is a joke and yet the Seahawks get home field almost every year regardless of how so-so they are, because the rest of the division is so bad.

Oooooh, the goats of the opener....who will they be? I think goathood will involve either kicking or punting in the opener....
Posted by: TheCindy | March 31, 2008 2:24 PM
Okay, here they are - the three goats of the opener prediction:
Rock Cartwright - 2 lost fumbles on kickoffs
Ladell Betts - 2 lost fumbles inside the Giants' 20
Fred Smoot - 2 dropped interceptions that would have been sure touchdown returns

An eating vacation?
Posted by: tafka | March 31, 2008 02:15 PM
It's what you do in New Orleans, at least when you've got your wife and kid with you -- po' boys, red beans and rice, gumbo, jambalaya. We had six great meals in five days.
Posted by: talent_evaluator | March 31, 2008 2:26 PM
Picking the possible goat for a season opening loss, 6 MONTHS before the game actually happens, is just way too negative for me.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalyse vs. The Three Goats of the Gridiron. Old school meets new school.

You can either have goats of the opener or Pooley comments today. Take your pick.
Posted by: tafka | March 31, 2008 2:35 PM
re-the draft: Do you ever get the feeling that there are 20 great player possibilities in the 1st round and you are picking 21st? I'll be glad when draft day actually arrives, so we can see who is available at #21. Seems like everyone we like is moving up, and everyone we don't care about is moving down. Naturally, wide receivers are moving down because there are lots of them this year and no one wants to waste 1st round picks on them.
Posted by: tafka | March 31, 2008 2:38 PM
Greg,
Don't want to project a goat? It's a lot harder this year with Brandon Lloyd and Adam Archuleta playing in Chicago, isn't it?
Okay, we'll let you off on this one. Assume, instead, the 'Skins win and we have ten days of blissful praise for the heroes of the game. Who are they? My three picks are: JC, the O line, and Laron Landry.
Posted by: talent_evaluator | March 31, 2008 2:40 PM
I have Mix recovering a fluke kickoff deep in Jints' territory and then leaping over everybody for a catch in the corner of the end zone on the next play, to ice the Skins' comeback victory.
Or maybe that was a dream I had.
Posted by: NateinthePDX | March 31, 2008 2:52 PM
taf, someone is going to fall to 21, Merling, Devin Thomas, Otah, someone of high quality will be there.
TA, I'll go with JC, Portis, or Moss. The offense has just GOT TO take some big steps forward this year.
Posted by: gregmarino88 | March 31, 2008 2:55 PM
Mmmmm...jambalaya. Nothing beats the Etouffee at Chez Paul's. Well, except the cheesecake at Delmonico's. What a great eating city New Orleans is.
Posted by: PDiddy | March 31, 2008 2:55 PM
Umm-mmmh. Cooking smells just reached Seattle and woke diddy. How about the bread pudding souffle with whiskey sauce at Commander's Palace?
Posted by: talent_evaluator | March 31, 2008 3:00 PM
For many many years, my college buddies (and I) went to Vegas this time of year. For several years I had been pushing hard for New Orleans ... for the food, if not jazz fest. I finally had a solid group of the "deciders" ready to switch ... then Katrina and the Waves had a bigger hit than "Walking On Sunshine." Vegas is getting so expensive.
I think the goat of the opener is going to that special teamer who threw a punch at the ref after getting called for roughing the punter ... I can't remember his name, you know, that guy we drafted in the 5th round ... oh, dang, the draft is still a month away. Never mind.

Maske is reporting that the Skins are getting a few additional picks in the NFL draft.
Needless to say, but a third round pick doesn't makeup for losing Sean T. Then again, I guess nothing would/will.

Redskins Awarded Third-Round Pick
PALM BEACH, Fla.--The Washington Redskins were awarded three additional picks in the NFL draft in April, including a third-rounder, today.
The league announced the compensatory draft choices awarded based on a formula balancing players lost and added in free agency.
The Redskins were awarded the highest of the compensatory selections, the 96th overall pick in the draft. Their other two compensatory choices come in the seventh round, Nos. 242 and 249 overall.
The Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens also were awarded third-round picks. The Ravens and Bengals were awarded four picks each, the most in the league.

Hey Cindy and all, looks like we are getting three more draft picks as compensation for our losses in free agency, one third rounder and two in the seventh round. Let's see if Vinny's new strategy pays off and we get some good talent in the draft.

Cindy--
Do you like whiskey sauce on it, or do you like to get sauced on whiskey?
For you, girl, they have something special: Sazeracs.

Goat of game1 will be the SWIRLING MEADOWLAND WINDS (oooooooooooohhhhhhh)......Swishy will go 0-3 on FG attempts and the blog will be on fire questioning why we did not draft a kicker......
Posted by: dlhaze1 | March 31, 2008 3:12 PM
stump, thats a good point about being awarded something, when a team is confronted with a tragedy of a player on the team. Not sure how the NFL could work that out, but there needs to be some kind of special compensation considering the monumental loss the Redskins have endured.
Posted by: gregmarino88 | March 31, 2008 3:12 PM
The actual goat from the opening game will not be the goat of the game, but will nonetheless still a goat. The goat of the game would be Frost who, with bad punting and fumbles, give shanks and plays to the Giants. The replacement punter, a youngster out of the Naval Academy, however, is able to turn the game around. http://www.usna.edu/PAO/facts/images/oldbill.jpg

I don't think that will ever happen. If it did, then the next step would be if a team loses a star to injury. Then it would be if a team loses a sub to injury. It would be never-ending

Maybe they just need to go with a rule that you get a pick for every player you lose each off season? Every player lost to trades, retirments, injuries, everything.
Well there have been several starting players who have died in the off season or whatever. Did Denver get anything?
