boo alphabet!
Posted by: Anonymous | April 15, 2008 1:04 PM
Um, hey everybody, says here the first two comments on this thread were (1) a weak joke about how even content as non-controversial as simply posting the Skins' home and away opponents for the upcoming season could draw complaints, given how touchy we are these days up here, and (2) a weak attempt at an example of such a complaint.
Ha ha ha.
Also, blah blah blog.

good afternoon everyone. i just got back from the eye doctor and my eyes are dialated so trying to read this blog this afternoon should be fun! anywho, profootball talk has a link to a new draft trade chart being circulated among the teams.
New/Proposed Trade Chart:
http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/04/15/new-draft-trade-chart/
Contrast this with the Old/Current Chart here:
http://www.profootballtalk.com/draft/draft-trade-chart/
Currently, the skins 21st overall pick is worth 800 pts. If we were to trade our 1st round pick to Atlanta (as an example), we could get their 2nd (35th overall- 550pts) and 3rd (68th overall-245pts) round picks and it would be a fairly even trade.
However, under the new/proposed trade value chart, which may begin being used by teams this year, the Falcons 2nd and 3rd round picks would not be enough. Under the new chart, our 1st round pick is worth 945 points. Picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds are essentially of the same value. So the Falcons would need to come up with 150 more points for it to be a fair trade. This means the Falcons would have to throw in their other third rounder (worth 120 points) to close the gap, although they would still owe us 30 points.
However, if we took atlantas two lower 2nd round picks (37th and 48th overall), that would amount to 950 points - 530 points and 420 points respectively.
Instead of getting only a 2nd and 3rd rounder in exchange for our picks, we can get a very high 2nd and two thirds or two selections in the top half of the 2nd round. Essentially, this new draft trade chart is awesome for the redskins. It would be great for us if we could find a way to trade with Atlanta.
On the flip side, if Albert were on the board at 12 when Denver picks (Denver is shopping the pick), we would no longer have to give up as much to move up to get the guy we may want. Denvers 1st round pick is now only 330 points more than ours (it was 400pts before). We could probably get something done where we give our 1st and 2nd round picks (1315pts) for Denvers 1st and 5th (1311pts)... I would still HATE that trade, but it wouldn't be as horrendous of a deal as we would be faced with now.
Anyway you look at it, the new trade chart really benefits the redskins, should we find a trade partner on draft day. Now I just need to come up with a new dream mock...

So it's cool that Baltimore is considered an away game. I'm sure a ton of skins fans will make the drive up for that.
Sucks that the Skins have two west coast trips on the schedule though.
Oh, and as an FYI to all those seeking Redskins news:
As reported on Redskins Radio today, the receivers were out on the practice fields today running routes with JC and In Todd We Trust. Looks like they're getting a good jump on the whole thing, and it's definitely nice to hear that they're working together (as opposed to last off season).
Posted by: swb | April 15, 2008 1:21 PM
*yawn* Who cares about the NFL schedule? It's APRIL.
Posted by: Mike | April 15, 2008 1:26 PM
tsh, thanks for posting that, I appreciate it. Unless it gets me in trouble with the people who 'run' the blog.
Good to hear that JC, and the receivers are getting together to work on routes. That could translate to JC hooking up more on the long ball, than he has previously.

... Mr. Snyder who "loves the Redskins more than anyone else who does not own majority ownership."
Posted by: Alex35332 | April 15, 2008 1:30 PM
If Mr. Snyder really loved the Redskins this much then:
(1) He'd give us some news
(2) He'd be up here blogging his guts out with the rest of us
(3) He'd invite all of the regulars to a big lawn party at his house for the draft and
(4) At said party he'd draw a name from a hat and let him make our second round pick.

once again TSH you sound like a tool...
as said on above post, janso is on other assignment....also ES is owned by skins, thus by definition part of NFL, thus by design going to have "scoops" like official announcements from NFL.....

four out of last six on the road, whatevs...

Its still his blog. He's called in stuff before. If he's stuck in traffic, she should be on the phones. If he had any real contacts, they could have called him and he could have one of his people post this here...
as far as ES being part of the NFL and getting scoops... this was posted by a random member there with 25 posts... someone who just noticed it on the sports980 site and posted this. This was posted on 980 within minutes of this post being created here. Sorry, but if this is an insider blog, someone should be posting insider info here.
My gripes with this blog aside, here are my thoughts on the schedule:
1) Love the Bye week in the middle of the season.
2) LOVE two weeks to prepare for Dallas AT HOME after the bye week, right in the middle of november.
2) Love us playing all our late-season divisional games at home. If we are in the playoff hunt after our first 9 games (and we should be with 7 weeks to go in the season), these games are going to be HUGE for us.
3) I can see us going 6-3 by the bye week (losing all three games to our division rivals, winnin the other 6).
4) Only 2 of our non-divisional games worry me: Pittsburg and Seattle. I think 8 of the others are very winable and we should get atleast 6 of those. Assuming we can get atleast 2 wins in the division and i think we have a good chance of getting to .500 this year, and we could very well go 10-6.
5)If we pound Dallas into the ground week 11, i say we win out.

If you notice, the blog "encourages" challenges. I don't post here because jasno or anyone else here has been posting anything relevant lately. I do it because i find the comments of most members here (yours and poolmans excluded, of course) interesting and worthy of discussion. another benefit is that there are people here who post links to real journalist's articles and blogs.
And with all due respect, chris laRRy, why dont you do all of us a favor and please post under your regular "handle."

A few comments:
* Monday night (Nov 3) against Pittsburgh!
* The seven games after the break could be real competitive... The Cowboys at home followed by the Seahawks away, the Giants at home, the Ravens away, the Bengals away, the Eagles at home, and finally the 49ers away.
Posted by: Siris | April 15, 2008 2:32 PM
my opinion, the key to this season (unlike the Gibbsian era) will be within the first 5 games of the year. @NYG, @PHI, and @DAL all within the first 5 games. Those road divisional matchups could set the tone for a VERY successful season. Let's hope Zorny is on his game from the get-go.
