Fred Davis's Agent Checks In
This just in from Jason Reid:
I just got a call from the agent of Redskins tight end Fred Davis, the team's second pick in this year's NFL draft who caused quite a stir by missing the last day of minicamp on Sunday.
Adam Heller of DeBartolo Sports wanted me to know that any rumors about Davis being someplace he shouldn't have been Saturday night are untrue. Heller said Davis was at the team hotel and simply overslept, as the team said on Sunday.
I'm headed to the Comcast SportsNet studios right now to do Washington Post Live and will provide more details later on.

FedEx Field is the worst stadium on the planet. Please God make Danny Boy build a new one at the old RFK site.
I'm sure he won't though because then people would be able to easily metro to the game, thus screwing him out of the money he rapes from fans for the parking fee. Danny, I hate you.

So the guy who has the second-most to gain from this embarrassment going away says "move along, nothing more to see here".

Is this the same DeBartolo that used to own 49ers, did Vinny work for him???
Posted by: chris LARRY | May 6, 2008 4:05 PM
Danny wants to move to DC (he says) but has a contract of 300 mill iwth FedEx that he cant get out of.

Hey Greg, I've got a delivery of 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.03 RI points for a "Mr Marino" here.
Where do you want I should put 'em?
Posted by: Redcoat | May 6, 2008 4:13 PM
Danny should send fed-ex a flat screen tv.
Posted by: Greg | May 6, 2008 4:13 PM
Today is the last day of actual football by the Skins until June OTAs. This makes me a little sad ... after today, we enter the withering desert winds of true OFF-season blogging ... with no Skins news ... no ultimatum ... no registration ... and no cowbell.
After today, the only thing we have to look forward to is AL/Zeke/zcezcest's major announcement ... and then after that, we follow Moses ...
Posted by: dcsween | May 6, 2008 4:15 PM
Maybe if he wanted to be more threatening he could send Fed-Ex a flat screen TV with a picture of a severed horse's head on it?
They might renegotiate then.

No apples.

I need to know now Greg. They're in the back of a cab out here and the guy has the meter running.
I'd say at a guess they weight about 3.14159x Philip Daniels, so you'll need a pretty big wallet to carry them to the redemption centre.

My soapbox! How could I forget?!? I'm going to have to pull it out and do some repairs and touch up on the paint.
I feel unworthy of any bonus points. I shall earn them the old fashioned way.
Plus I wouldn't want to jeopordize Greg's chances at a spectacular free one time only bonus gift.

Posted by: Redcoat | May 6, 2008 4:34 PM
The skins just built FedEx, why would they build a new stadium? Just so you can leisure your arse over by metro - get over it. I don't think stadium building is like 7-11 building.
Fred Davis, I guess over sleeping by five hours is ok, anybody buying that? I also assume, the cab drivers were on strike - so he couldn't show up, well just late. Or was MaBell on strike and the phone not working. He could be the only unsigned drafter player without a cell phone, you know. Plus, his new room probably didn't have a phone in it, sometimes hotels forget those small items.
There's got to be more to this story. I'm assuming veteran prank, since he was the only rookie taking snaps with the first team. The skins are ok with it because of the veteran prank, they are all laughing at us guessing and the media covering up.
Fred Davis may be the most productive rookie in this class.

Prison Balls, how do you hide your prison shanks from the guards? After cutting so many people, you'd think they would search your cell and your person really well.

They're going back to D.C. (or, less likely, to Virginia). It's a no-brainer. The team owns FedEx field and much of the supporting land and parking lots, etc. Shrewd business man that he is (and that IS a complement), the owner will get D.C. to?

The team owns FedEx field and much of the supporting land and parking lots, etc. Shrewd business man that he is (and that IS a complement), the owner will get D.C. to finance much of the cost of a new stadium to rival that of the cowgirls and, meanwhile, will sell the Landover acres to developers for serious coin. Imagine what that much land with that kind of access to the beltway will go for. Exactly.
Posted by: | May 6, 2008 5:31 PM
After everyone slobbers all over the new Cowpaddies stadium the pressure is going to be on lots of teams for new and improved.
If the Niners and Raiders also get new ones in the next 5 years even more so.
They gotta go back to DC. (As a fan and a native from w/in city limits I say this with fervor and winsome longing.)
Isn't the field at FedEx crap despite it being grass? Built on asphalt essentially or am I making up reasons to get rid of the dump?

Except they can't get out of the 20 year (or so) contract with FedEx on the stadium name, and if they leave the stadium that would violate the contract.
+ The housing market is supposed to continue on this down spiral for another 7 years from what I read.
Not saying I don't want them back in DC. I do. But it may not happen for another 15-30 years.

So the name rights are tied to actual location? Didn't know that. For some reason I remember it was like a $300,000 deal for name rights. Maybe that's per year?
I suppose it doesn't change if FedEx gets bought or anything.
PacBell park was SBC and now it's AT&T Park.
Candlestick was 3M and now it's Monster Park.
Oakland Colisuem was something and now it's McAffee.

2 Different Sources have already said that Fred Davis was at H2O on the Waterfront Saturday night.
Davis is starting off on the wrong foot. Like someone said earlier, he prob got a different room because he hooked up wit a DC Phatty and hit it 'til like 6 in da morn.......
The Agent seems to be the source of John Clayton. Do you think Clayton was at the hotel and reported this 1st hand? No. Someone spun it to him.
To me, the mystery is over, but if he continues to pull a Clemons and have people give out denials, then he is making it worse for him.......

DC government is in no mood to finance another stadium. It costs a DC Council chair her shot at the mayor position. Lots of political blood was spilled over the Nats new stadium. [Next up is the fight over Poplar Point and the new DC United Stadium.] The DC Council is barely willing to finance the renovations necessary to bring schools up to code.
The RFK site and the surrounding federal property to-be-turned over (Reservation 13) is going to be the center for the hottest fight over real property since ... forever.
Also, unlike the rest of the country, DC's real estate market is not spiralling downward (other than the "correction" in the third quarter of 2006). DC's market for single family homes is holding steady or increasing in value ... the soft spot is condos, where developers over-built so now there is a glut ... but that is getting picked up by the renter market, who got displaced by the sale of former rental homes to owner-occupants.
[I'm not sure I understand the connection between any of this and a new stadium for the Skins in DC.]

Fred Davis ben spotted on HGH with JLC, P Diddy, the X-men they're lookig for some R and R and have been linked to nearly twelve other letters of the Alphabet.
They're currently holding hostages and Police are negotiating and it appears they have just bought a vowel.
We're not sure which vowel it is at the moment, but were hoping its not U.

I'm not sure if I've just peaked as a fan or hit a new low. I've spent the last 1/2 hour perusing sites and learning about FedEx field.
Apparently it may have been a 27 year deal with Federal Express although details were not disclosed.
So the feds are turning RFK et al. over to DC gov't? Really? Well that about guarantees it will stay empty and falling apart for 30+years if United go play in a new stadium.

Portland is most definitely weird but instead of defending ourselves, we're more likely to wallow in our weirdness.
If you want to know why we treasure this place, here's one line from the article that sums it up quite nicely for this aging hippie, hard-core Skins fan:
"The first President Bush called it "Little Beirut" for the hostile receptions he could rely on, and his son hasn't fared any better."
Plus, if you love to drink beer, this is THE city to live in.

BEARS CUT ARCH DELUX
The Chicago Bears announced today that they have released safety Adam Archuleta after one year with the team.
Last March the Bears traded their 2007 sixth-round draft pick to the Redskins in exchange for Archuleta, who had just finished a disappointing season in Washington. He played in 15 games for the Bears, starting 10. (The Redskins used the pick to draft quarterback Jordan Palmer.)
Archuleta had his best seasons with the Rams from 2001 to 2005, with Lovie Smith, now the Bears' head coach, as his defensive coordinator. When Archuleta signed with Chicago, it looked like reuniting with Smith would make it the right fit.
But the Bears apparently felt that Archuleta was expendable because they like the other safeties on the roster, including Mike Brown, Brandon McGowan, Danieal Manning, Kevin Payne and rookie fourth-round draft choice Craig Steltz.
The 30-year-old Archuleta will now be an unrestricted free agent.
