Monday OTA Update - Taking Attendance
RB Clinton Portis is absent from today's OTA session. Coach Jim Zorn said last week that Portis would be excused for a few days and might not be back Monday. CB Shawn Springs is also still not around.
I did not see DL Cornelius Griffin on the field, but he's not one to miss out on any of this, and I would imagine he was excused as well. We'll see what Zorn has to say after practice. OL Jason Fabini was back to work after being excused Friday.
The list of injured players not taking part in full drills remains the same: Antwaan Randle El, Erasmus James, Carlos Rogers, Rocky McIntosh, Vernon Fox, Kareem Moore and Tyler.
Also, the Redskins made two rosters moves - re-signing LB Rian Wallace and DE Dorian Smith and releasing Bryan Wilson and Eddie Jackson.

How have the players looked? Anyone seem more comfortable with the new system? Are there any players that could surprise us when Sept, Oct/Jan, Feb come around?

Anyone know what happen to that linebacker that we had last year, last name trucks. he seemed to be pretty decent?

I'm all nervous with excitement for iPhone 2.0. BTW, I'll take 55 and cloudy over 95 and humid any day.
Where are we boozing it up this weekend?
Posted by: P Diddy | June 9, 2008 11:54 AM
They got rid of Wilson and Jackson after the expose last week on the redundant last names... and also addressed the notable lack of a Smith.
I mean, how can you not have a Smith?

Please refer to it as the 'Jesus Phone'.
Reverently.

Time out from the Shabingus speak and OTA updates for some joyous news: PFT is reporting that Michael Strahan has told Jay Glazer of FOX that he's retiring. Somewhere Jon Jansen is smiling...
Posted by: brownwood26 | June 9, 2008 12:00 PM
Brian Wilson isn't the same player since he took all those drugs back in the 60s and 70s.
I'm surprised he can hold down a place on the Skins roster but who am I to judge?
Posted by: Redcoat | June 9, 2008 12:00 PM
They should have asked him if he is going to get that gap fixed, dude can whistle with his mouth closed
Posted by: Anonymous | June 9, 2008 12:03 PM
Presumably Jansen will give this news 'two thumbs up'?
Posted by: Redcoat | June 9, 2008 12:03 PM
I guess he just wasn't made for these times.
Posted by: SMACK | June 9, 2008 12:15 PM
Very funny, 'Coat...
Back to shabingus speak for a moment...
Just want to reiterate what a great event it was -- it should be a national holiday -- and to reassure you, Dorf, that my having to leave had absolutely NOTHING to do with your arrival. Really.
It's rare that meeting people you've gotten to know over the phone or interweb exceeds your expectations, but that's exactly what happened. It's a very very cool, core group of people up here.

I heart Cindy Boren.
Posted by: Dorf | June 9, 2008 12:17 PM
Dorf, forget Colorado Springs, you need to get yourself up to DC!
Posted by: Redcoat | June 9, 2008 12:20 PM
I heart when blow-hard idiot Giants retire.
Posted by: brownwood26 | June 9, 2008 12:21 PM
I'm no Strahan fan, but you have to admit that blowhard or no, he backed it up on the field.
Posted by: Redcoat | June 9, 2008 12:24 PM
That's four roster moves.
Posted by: Truth | June 9, 2008 12:25 PM
plus...if you gotta blow, why not blow hard?!
Posted by: Anonymous | June 9, 2008 12:29 PM
I'd pay good money, if I had good money, to see some bloodthirsty Romanian bite Nicky Anelka on the face.

Watching Euro 2008 again SMACK?
Posted by: Redcoat | June 9, 2008 12:35 PM
Hey SMACK, I see that you're behind Kost, me and Nate(!) in the Eurobingus ladder... :)
Posted by: Redcoat | June 9, 2008 12:41 PM
And this surprises you? You just watched me lose a fight with a bottle of ketchup.
Posted by: SMACK | June 9, 2008 12:47 PM
These yellow unis are killing my orbs and, say what you will about the French, their national anthem rocks.
Posted by: Cindy | June 9, 2008 12:51 PM
Whoa! Smack, youlost a fight with a bottle of catsup/ketchup?
Posted by: Cindy | June 9, 2008 12:52 PM
Think of it this way Cindy, now the orange won't be such a shock to the system.
France and Romania appear to have the same flag. How stupid is that?

He ended up with the Steelers, who I think picked him up off the practice squad, or maybe regular free agency during one of those weeks between when they cut a guy and then re-sign him to the practice squad.
Also, I sense this Wallace/Smith/Wilson/Jackson business is sort of revolving door OTA. All of them are defense, so its not like anything new is being installed (except, like used, where its new to you). Seems like they never really got enough of a chance to evaluate any of the four of them, so two guys get a few days off, then a different two guys get a few days off, etc. Like maybe its the product of only being able to keep 80 guys on the roster, so cutting guys this time of year is like just giving them a few days of rest.

He was pretending it was a fight Cindy, but actually he was trying to throw ketchup on my Fins shirt....
Is anyone up for a blog meet-up at Summers later on in the Euro 2008? SMACK/Adam/LaCindy? Tournament ends on 6/29 so maybe something during the last week when the good games are on?
Posted by: Redcoat | June 9, 2008 12:55 PM
Fraid so, Cindy. Fortunately most of it ended up on Redcoat's Marino jersey, which if there's a god in heaven will get lost at the cleaners.
Posted by: SMACK | June 9, 2008 12:57 PM
Sure, I'm in for that. I'm all about Euro2008, even tho it's not reeeeeeeaaaaallly football.
Posted by: Cindy | June 9, 2008 12:59 PM
I'm just going to let the stains dry and pretend they were blood from some imaginary fracas with an anti-Fins fan.
Just checked up on France vs. Romania on the BBC web site, and the description of the first half was 'turgid'. Nuff said!
BTW do you think Morocco's brother sings along to La Marseilleise?

On the "transactions" on the Skins site, looks like Anthony Trucks was one of the proverbial journeymen LBs just passing through and getting some preseason film. He was signed in January 2007, released in the last round of cuts, signed to the practice squad on Sept. 3rd, and cut Sept. 11th. [And from there, I think the Steelers.] Seems like he got cut around the time they picked up Randall Godfrey ... and Posey was already on the roster, the other LBs were healthy, and Blades had just been drafted ... Trucks did stay around longer, however, than Dallas Sartz (now in Minny).

Drop me an email cindy some time to let me know when you're back from vaca. I'll organize with the other reprobates.

Wow, so Michael "is that camera on?" Strahan is done.......watch out for a new show this fall starring him, Jason Sehorn and Tiki Barber. It will be called, "Three men and a TV camera"......watch as the three biggest camera hogs in the history of the NFL and ex-New Yor Giants face off against one another for camera time. Brought to you by the producers that created great shows such as Flavor of Love and Tia Tequila....If that show doesn't get the greenlight we will all surely see him on the ESPN pregame with 13 other schmucks alongside Chris Berman. Only if he signs a contract to pick the Cowboys to win it all this year though. Yay.
Posted by: dlhaze | June 9, 2008 1:01 PM
Worst. TV. show. not. including. ann. curry. ever. And yet I'd watch every episode. It would be funny if they were sitting around watching an NFL game and described the action as "turgid."
Sent you Man U news on an email, 'Coat.
Posted by: Cindy | June 9, 2008 1:07 PM
'turgid'
You all rang?

Who gives two monkey turds about soccer?
That insurmountable 1-0 lead sure is gripping. With all the flopping it's easy to understand why Europeans are labled as Soft-t-t. Then they bring that B.S. to the NBA... Ugh!
Since when do you need a stretcher for lightly bumping knees.
Tell em' to grow a pair. No wonder Europeans don't understand football, it's too aggressive for them.
But feel free to watch them run up and down the field for oh, I don't know, about three hours, only to have the game end in penalty kicks. Oh and I can't forget about the fans who yells racial slurs, torches the stadium, and police cruisers when their team looses. Real class acts, those soccer fans...
Soccer = NASCAR = IRL = F1
I'll take golf, tennis, or even billards over ANY of the above.
