Skins Sign Tryon (UPDATED)
The Skins signed Justin Tryon, their fourth round pick in April.
UPDATE: Tryon signed a four-year deal, sources said, in the standard form for later-round picks (nominal signing bonus; veternal minimum salaries).
Tryon is a corner out of Arizona State who has good speed and cover skills but lacks size. He also is a big-time trash talker in the Fred Smoot mold; we'll see if he's that kind of safety.
To make room for Tryon on the roster the Skins released safety Patrick Ghee.
Washington signed 7th round pick Chris Horton on Thursday and has eight players left to sign. The Redskins are scheduled to exchange proposals with their three second-round picks next week.

Eight more guys to sign means eight more guys to cut. Unsigned draft picks at WR, TE, WR, OL, P, S, QB, DE.
Hamilton and Ghee were UFAs among those signed most recently (excluding Rian Wallace, LB, and Dorian Smith, DE, who get resigned after they got cut). JT Mapu, DT, and Jason Goode, TE, were signed after Ghee ... so seems like position is relevant to who gets cut as they sign someone.
So on prediction day 2008, dcsween says the following guys get cut as the team signs their draft picks:
For Colt Brennan, they cut Derek Devine or Sam Hollenbach. I predict Hollenback b/c Devine was Zorn's guy from Seattle and Zorn is really only in his comfort zone on QBs.
For Chad Reinhart, they cut Devin Clark or Kyle de Van. I predict they cut the shorter of the two (or both b/c might not be enough WRs to cut).
I predict Durant Brooks wins the punter competition. First veteran released.
For Fred Davis, I predict they cut Tyler Ecker because Jason Goode survived the first axe today.
For Devin Thomas, I predict they release Horace Gant. Yes, they signed a UFA named Horace Gant.
I predict Malcolm Kelly will be a contract holdout till camp starts, stalling the need for a cut, and thus my addiction to making predictions today.
For Rob Jackson, I predict the recently re-signed Dorian Smith will be re-cut, but may be back by the preseason if one of the other DEs gets hurt in camp.
For Kareem Moore, I predict they will release Cedrick Holt (who will be invited back when they put Moore on the PUP list once the season starts).
Basis for these predictions? Exclusively LIFO accounting ... and Spidey sense.

I've liked Russert for a long time, though in recent years he's seemed to succumb to his own cachet, sometimes gettting unnecessarily belligerent in his questions. Seems undeniable that he was king of the mountain of news voices. He illuminated through his questions, almost to the point where any "analysis" he would provide would be unnecessary.
I still think there are some pros out there with the chops to get it right, someone like Gwen Ifel, or even Charlie Rose. likely will not pursue bentley who is likely a shade of himself. with the age of the o-line, it is vital the team develops young lineman. signing bentley would likely eliminate a roster spot for young player that the team would like to goom.
it's probably been said by others, but how much more do guys like Jansen, Kendall, and Thomas have left? I would much rather try and groom guys like Heyer, Rhinehart, and Crummey (had a 3rd round grade by all the experts prior to the injury and i know for fact scouting staff and coaches think they got a steal). Add those three to Wade and Fabini and you likely go 10 deep on the 53-man roster this year with Alexander being a fill-in at times.

But I have to say that with the economy, the war, out-of-control government spending, who cares how much money McCain and Obama have gotten from drug companies? It really doesn't seem like a compelling case for why I would want to vote for Nader -- so 20th Century.

I looked at those numbers, and drug companies have given less than a million dollars. Does Nadar think that's enough to cause his "Universal Healthcare" plan to fail? Energy companies, barely $2 million. And the Wall Street contributions are only $31 million. This money is pocket change to the Obama and McCain campaigns. This is only around 8% of what they've raised.
But what really seems bizarre is that two of the industries that are doing the worst under present policies are pharmaceuticals and financials (Wall Street). If you've invested in them, you're feeling pain today. They have the most to gain from changing the economic direction of the country. Does Nader believe that his program would improve the returns in these bleeding industries or lower the returns further?

I know we all have to make a living, but allow me some commentary about the person you are helping promote. There once was a time I had nothing but admiration for him. There once was a time when I thought he Mattered. There once was a time when I thought he was part of the Answer for much of what was wrong with America. But no more. And it pains to say that.
So I hope you understand why I believe you are helping to enable a once-revered, now pathetic Megalomaniac to continue to hasten the country along the road to ruin.
Because of Ralph Nader's unfettered Ego, George W. Bush is President of the United States. Any expert without a bias will tell you that without Nader siphoning off Democratic votes in Florida in 2000, Bush would not have been close enough to steal the election there from Gore.
Think about that the next time you are paying $4.71 (this morning) for gas. Think about it when you meet someone whose kid or father or aunt died in Iraq, or whose family was destroyed when the spouse left after the third deployment. Think about it the next time a Katrina hits and an idiot President flies overhead looking down in a photo op as he returns from a political fundraiser. Think about it when the US can't react to a genuine world crisis because our military equipment has been eaten up in the sands of Iraq. Think about it the next time Afghanistan takes a Taliban hit--like today's--because the President went after Saddam and not bin Laden.
Think about it as Social Security runs out, as Exxon laughs at the country when they announce their obscene profits, when the Far Right gets another Supreme on the court and does away with Habeas Corpus for good.
You can't blame the entire presidency of George Bush on Nader, of course, but he is a major, perhaps THE major reason why Bush got to be President. And Nader did it, pure and simple, out of his own neediness. He could have had his moment in the Sun, taken his bows, then bowed out and thrown his support to the man who should have been helping the planet from a position of power, not just winning awards for his Ecological Slide Show. Without Ralph Nader, America wouldn't be sucking hind teat on Global Warming and Alternative Energy development.
Then, in 2004, when we all knew better, when anyone with a brain understood the damage Bush was capable of continuing to inflict, Nader came back again for another stint in the Spotlight. The topper was when Bill Maher literally got on his knees and begged Nader to get out of the campaign before he did more damage. Nader smugly sat there on Maher's show, basking in the attention, and said "no," he was just too important.
In 2008, Nader is at it again. And again he will take more votes away from Democrats than from Republicans. How many votes may be determined by how much free publicity he gets from an inept Media, and how naive some voters still are. If McCain squeezes in by, say, winning Florida, Nader will have another skin on his belt. At the very least, Alex, please offer your artistic services to Ron Paul, who will siphon from the Right.
Another small complaint. Despite his high-falootin' self-image, Nader's "commercial" is as trivial as flag pins or pledges of allegiance or middle names are to the real needs of the country. NBA cheating, while important to sports fans and morality fetishists, is right down there with the other non-issues being overblown in the current campaign. Why the NBA, Ralph? Because it's in the news. Because it's a means for Ralph to grab back the spotlight. The Media can't send ME into the oblivion I deserve, says Ralph's Ego..
So there's another disappointment for those of us who once honored and praised Ralph Nader. Turns out Ralph is as cynical and pragmatic and needy as any of the real candidates. Turns out Ralph craves his Fame Jones like any other addict needs a drug fix.
The personal tragedy for Nader is that he has seen his genuine legacy of achievement set aside as he has become a punch line, a laughingstock and a bitter sidenote to the cesspool that is American politics today.
Eight years of George Bush would make a Relativist out of most Idealists. Like it or not, Politics is not about absolutes, but compromises. So those of us in the Real World can't afford NaderThink. Hence, I don't give a rat's asterisk if Obama and McCain took medical money, as Nader so proudly huffs.
A vote for Nader is worse than a wasted vote. First of all, Nader is no more Our Next President than Mike Gravel, Mr. Whipple, or Little Mary Sunshine are. Second, even if Nader could win, Senator Obama, on his worse day, would be ten times the President sad sack Ralph might ever hope to be. Hell, I even think Senator McCain would be better, and the thought of McCain in the White House terrifies me.
So, if you must do Nader commercials, Alex, consider this suggestion. Convince him to run for something he won't ruin the country doing. Run him for NBA Commissioner.

Well, I am way way way way to tired to go into depth typing out a essay sized response to Pete, who I have never met, I have no clue with regard to his political leaning or whatever and so countering it would take way to long. I will respond to some of TE's stuff, as well I like TE.
One thing I have learned in my political life, is that this idea that that would be chump change is BS. Even for Obama and McCain, a million dollars is still a ton of money, they pay as much for Gas, Rent and everything as any company does in the end. Most millionaires I know are not that out of touch when it comes to money.

In 1800 one vote decided the US Presidency. In the presidential election between Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr was tied in the Electoral College, 73 to 73. Therefore the election was tossed into the House of Representatives for decision; but after ballots were cast 36 times by the House, the vote was still tied. Then, one Federalist changed his vote. Others followed, and Jefferson was elected President on the 37th ballot. 1
In 1839, one vote elected the Governor of Massachusetts, Marcus "Landslide" Morton. Of the 102,066 votes cast by the good people of that commonwealth, he received exactly 51,034. Had his count been 51,033, the election would have been thrown into the Legislature, where he probably would not have won. In 1989, one vote would have decided a Michigan ballot proposition. A Lansing, Michigan School District millage proposition failed when the final recount produced a tie vote 5,147 for, and 5,147 against. In 1994, one vote would have decided a Wyoming state representative election. Florida was NOT the tightest state in the 2000 election: Gore won new Mexico by only 179 votes, although Florida was tighter in percentage terms. 19
In 2004, one vote would have decided a Massachusetts Democratic State Committeewoman election. In the Middlesex-Suffolf-Essex state senate district, Lesley Phillips' race for the state committeewoman's seat with Patty Cheevers ended in a tie. A convention was held and Ms. Cheevers was seated on the State Committee, despite a formal complaint by Ms. Phillips that write-in ballots in Boston were not counted. It was later proven that at least four people cast write-in votes for Ms. Phillips in Boston. Ms. Cheevers retained her seat anyway. 20

The only popular elections you cited were for governor of Massachusetts and a seat in the Alaska state senate. I'm sticking by what I posted: "no election of significance is ever decided by one vote.

Okay Political Bigotry. To tell someone not to run for office, or not to join a political group of any kind, is political bigotry. To tell someone not to vote, that a particular political group "owns" their vote or the BS line that a vote for X is a vote for Y, is political bigotry. To work proactively towards trying to keep someone off the ballot, political bigotry. These are acts of political bigotry. What we see the right doing on Gay Marriage is political Bigotry, as well as other forms of bigotry. It all works on the assumption that one political POV is inferior from another.

Because of the progressive political work I have done in my life, I was constantly stabbed in the back by the Dem's I can't vote for them. I disagree even more with the GOP so I cant vote that way. Also I live in DC so my vote will be irrelevant the city is going blue on the big board so I get to do one thing that maybe you can't do, I can vote for my Ideals instead of vote by my fear.
Don't think Nader would make a good president, okay thats fine, I think he has more executive experience than Obama and McCain together, the man runs more non-profits than anyone I have ever met, and the US Government is the most bloated non-profit in the world.

I'm not a political person, myself, but the fact is that every successful political movement (and all the unsuccessful ones, too) starts small. Lambasting someone for working for what he believes in misses the point completely.
By the way, I've thought about that final chart in the Nader commercial and I think it only showed figures for McCain and Obama. Why not include Nader and show a bunch of zeroes for him? (I assume they are all zeroes, right?) It would be a more effective graphic and it would also put the three candidates on an equal footing.
