Devin Thomas Injures His Hamstring

Devin Thomas, the wide receiver who was the Redskins' first overall pick in the April draft, was taken from the field on a cart after suffering what Coach Jim Zorn said is a pulled hamstring. Zorn, speaking immediately after the morning practice, said the team was not yet certain of the severity of the injury, but that he did not believe Thomas, who is getting treatment now, would be out too long.

"There was nothing I could say," Zorn said of the team's training camp injuries. "Here we go again."

Thomas was hurt running down the right sideline for a deep pass from Jason Campbell and fell to the ground as he went for the catch. A 6-2, 218-pounder from Michigan State, Thomas was a second-round pick.

As they head deeper into camp, this is the time when muscle injuries are common, and the Redskins hope to limit that.

"We've just got to continue to work our way through it," Zorn said.
...
LaRon Landry, who was not participating in the morning drills, said he had tweaked his lefthamstring. "I should be back in a couple of days," Landry said. "I'll be fine." Shawn Springs took a lot of snaps, as mentioned earlier, at safety as well as cornerback. Rookie Kareem Moore also is ailing. Zorn said Moore has some swelling in his knee - he had surgery this offseason - and continues to rest. The team will soon "rev" him back up, Zorn said, and he will test the knee.
...
Defensive end Chris Wilson suffered a mild calf strain early in practice, but Zorn does not expect him to be out long. He will miss the afternoon practice.
...
Todd Collins had another rough practice; he was not sharp, throwing picks and near-picks.
...
Santana Moss made a great play on a pass from Campbell, really got the crowd going.

Fingers crossed that this isn't bad...

As bad as it sounds, I mean.

Also, crap.

Posted by: Anthony (Los Angeles) | July 24, 2008 10:24 AM

excuse me, our draft needs are exactly the same as last winter! :)

Posted by: richmond redskin | July 24, 2008 10:25 AM

This is great, we are getting way to many injuries in this camp and its only been going on for a couple days now

Posted by: SAK | July 24, 2008 10:25 AM

:(

Posted by: Anonymous | July 24, 2008 10:25 AM

Not 100 percent sure it's a hammy....but it looked that way to noted physicians Jason Reid and Jasno La Canfora. And to our intern.

Posted by: Cindy | July 24, 2008 10:25 AM

What the...? Every year...Cerrato could seem like a genius now with his multiple picks of WR if one already went down.

As for the scrimmage, I was just being hopeful I could see some Skins in action as I'm in Westminster near B'more camp and have had enough (yes it's only been open 1 day)

Posted by: svxcountry | July 24, 2008 10:25 AM

If Drs. Reid and La Canfora were on the scene, I might ask for a third opinion...

But anyway, this sucks. No more freakin' injuries.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | July 24, 2008 10:27 AM

It's only 10:30 and I'm having my first beer already.

Posted by: Gus | July 24, 2008 10:28 AM

No worries. If Devin and Malcolm go down, we can always throw Sleepy in at the slot.

Posted by: Anonymous | July 24, 2008 10:29 AM

With the offense we fielded last year- predictable, conservative, run first, filler OL due to injuries- most Ds were able to put 8 in the box, our WRs were not able to break away, it's a wonder JC did not look worse last season. This year he will make believers out of all the doubters out there (here).

Zorn needs to call plays as if his job is not on the line and JC needs to play as if his job is not on the line. With that mindset, the Skins will win.

wuta fudge..i hope its nothing serious

Posted by: Anonymous | July 24, 2008 10:29 AM

Effing hammies. Well, at least we know our medical staff has experience with those. And at least it's not ligament or tendon damage (hopefully). It could be worse.

I hope all the steps taken have been precautionary. I didn't think he would see much action this year anyway.........

Posted by: 4th | July 24, 2008 10:34 AM

Lets hope its a pull and not a torn.
pull = out a month
torn = out a year

Posted by: Lipty | July 24, 2008 10:35 AM

"official" blog says that the injury doesn't look good either...take that for what it's worth.

Posted by: svxcountry | July 24, 2008 10:39 AM

From the Redskins blog.

After beating a defender but missing the catch (on a well-thrown long ball), rookie WR Devin Thomas went down on the sideline, apparently with some sort of leg injury, and was ultimately taken off on a cart. That much is sure.

This next part is COMPLETELY UNCONFIRMED at this point, but I wasn't far from the injury when it happened and the chatter about the injury did not sound promising at all. AT all. Again, this is an unconfirmed rumor based on things I overheard.

Posted by: MJ | July 24, 2008 10:40 AM

Cerrato could seem like a genius now with his multiple picks of WR if one already went down.
Posted by: svxcountry | July 24, 2008 10:25 AM

Shouldn't we be blasting him for wasting all of these draft picks on injury prone players?
I don't like that he was "carted off"; wouldn't you be able to walk off with a minor hammy pull? Anyone know if Smoot got carted off or did he walk off the other day (and then came back the next day like nothing happened)? To quote Grouchy Smurf: "I HATE TRAINING CAMP!!!"

Posted by: dlhaze | July 24, 2008 10:40 AM

He was taken reps with the starters, opposite Moss.

I must admit that this is coming from the same guy who said he didn't think Daniel's injury was serious.

Posted by: MJ | July 24, 2008 10:42 AM

Come on! This is ridiculous.

Hope he's okay, for his sake and the team's.

Posted by: Joe the Fan | July 24, 2008 10:42 AM

Well lets see what Mix and Kelly can do!

Posted by: chris LArry | July 24, 2008 10:43 AM

Yes, if it's Minor he should be able to walk off but carting off is okay for training camp for precautionary measures if needed.

Posted by: svxcountry | July 24, 2008 10:43 AM

And can you believe we play 5 preseason games?!?!?! What a curse. That is such a joke. The league shortens rosters but expands preseason....ugh!!!!

The HOF game participants should skip week 1 of preseason games!!!!

It's the curse of chris larry. More people should verbally assault him to make him go away, like Barno.

Posted by: Anonymous | July 24, 2008 10:47 AM

wouldn't you be able to walk off with a minor hammy pull?

Posted by: dlhaze | July 24, 2008 10:40 AM

As someone who has a pretty extensive history of hammy pulls, I'd say that if it's very minor (like a week-or-two's worth injury) you could walk off pretty easily. If it's a severe hammy pull (like a month or longer), you can still walk off - but it takes FOREVER (because you can't stretch your leg past a couple degrees). At that point, it's just easier to be taken on a cart.

For what it's worth, some hammy injuries can look crippling, but only be about a month or so recovery time. At this point, I think we all would take a month-long injury for Thomas.

Posted by: Anonymous | July 24, 2008 10:48 AM

I agree with the whole preseason thing...I hope the starters don't play til week 2 of preseason...as much as I want to see them, I want to see them healthy against the Giants.

Posted by: svxcountry | July 24, 2008 10:48 AM

Instead of new coaching changes, we should look a better training/medical staff. Every year we lose someone that is a very key contributor. If we had a medical and training staff that taught our guys to practice all of the stretching and conditioning requirements, we may have a full season of starters.

Posted by: pstylee | July 24, 2008 10:49 AM

I wonder where are all the whiners now who complained about drafting 2 receivers. JLC I'm talking to you. If this injury is serious at least were in a position where we don't have to scramble to find a replacement.

Posted by: Brian | July 24, 2008 10:49 AM

Oh $&%*!!!

Posted by: Josh | July 24, 2008 10:49 AM

And LaRon also tweaked his hammy. Is there some kind of injury curse on this team?

Let's start every practice with mandatory stretching!!

Posted by: Curzon417 | July 24, 2008 10:50 AM

He probably blew out the hamstring trying to catch up to an overthrown pass by Jason "Hang em out to dry" Campbell.

Campbell's inaccuracy is goint to take out our top level receiving corps one at a time. That's if he gets rid of the ball before getting knocked on his back.

Also, he has to be smart enough to read the defense to even have a shot at overthrowing his receivers.

We should have traded JC when he had some value. Now Thomas is the first of his many casualties this year.

From the "offficial blog" it looks more like a hammy, but who is this Harris dude? I think he meant Thomas. Stupid.

Posted by: Anonymous | July 24, 2008 10:51 AM

what the chris larry is going on with all these injuries the first week?

Posted by: jm220 | July 24, 2008 10:51 AM

Seriously what's with all these non-contact injuries? Maybe there's toxic mold growing in the locker-room.

Posted by: Josh | July 24, 2008 10:51 AM

Most injuries on this team, last year included, seem to be related to hamstrings. Dont you think the medical staff would realize this?

Posted by: svxcountry | July 24, 2008 10:51 AM

The Truth notes that Malcom Kelly is the "injury prone" WR we drafted, not Devin Thomas. The Truth says "Oh no" and frowns.

Thomas was vieing for the top 3. It has been said many times over he is very raw and he has a lot to learn. Look for more out of him in years to come as he learns how to be a WR.......

Posted by: 4th | July 24, 2008 11:01 AM

It's a real shame when you cant take criticism.
Wow, I guess the guy cant see that he needs any improvement.

Posted by: D | July 24, 2008 8:55 AM

Maybe I didn't express this well. Jasno has no problem with criticism of himself or his work. He was always open to it and, in the early days of the blog, he would respond to it sometimes. And no one has brought any criticism in the past year that he hadn't heard before that. He's heard the criticism, he's considered it, but he doesn't agree with it.

His problem with "anger and hate" referred to all the fighting, hate, and hostility posted on the blog. Most of it has nothing to do with what he wrote or even with the Redskins. It has to do with people like Purple Haze or the nut sack guy or the anons who have nothing to do but criticize the other posters and attack "the regulars," each other, the Redskins' management, and whatever inner demons they're feeling at the time.

This isn't "criticism" he's ignoring. It is borderline psychotic. Read over the posts yesterday afternoon and you can see why he stopped reading.

Posted by: talent evaluator | July 24, 2008 11:01 AM

Just a correction, they bring in new medical staff this year because of hamstrings. Hamstrings can also be attributed to diet and not getting enough potassium. So maybe they need to hire dieticians as well. you can stretch all you want but if you are not putting the right things in your body diet wise you can still pull muscles

Posted by: Ian | July 24, 2008 10:57 AM

Well the training/medical staff generally take care of injuries after they happen. They normally aren't the cause of it. Now if it's a recurring injury to the same player, or if it's an unacceptable recovery, this could be a problem.

As for the first-time injuries to players (R.Thomas' triceps, Jansen's everything, D.Thomas' hammy, Lloyd's shoulder, ACLs, dislocations, etc.) that seems more of a problem with the players' strength and conditioning.

Posted by: talent evaluator | July 24, 2008 11:19 AM

from the official blog :
Asked the QBs about the lively pads drill this morning, and specifically about Coach Zorn's zeal for it.

Colt Brennan: "We'd done something like that in college, but this was kind of a barrage. I've never had six bags thrown at me at one time."
Was Coach feeling sinister? "Ah, Coach Zorn just always wants to keep it loose and fun. They're soft bags, and we've got these big pads and everything."

Todd Collins: "Pretty physical drill for the quarterbacks, don't you think? The rule was no headshots, but we had a few right up in the facemasks."
Was Coach feeling sinister? "He was. He was holding that pad up like he was going to put it in someone's head. He had this little snicker about him...."

Jason Campbell: "That's a fun drill, you know? I got a chance to play rush end, so I tried to take full advantage of it."
Was Coach feeling sinister? "Oh, he was trying to knock us out. He really wanted to put the rock in you."

How about taking a look at our training staff????? Come on there is a lot of pulled hammies over the past few seasons.

Posted by: dancingbear34 | July 24, 2008 11:17 AM

Again, training staffs don't prevent injuries - they help players recover from injuries. You want to place blame, look at conditioning coaches or, as Great One pointed out, nutritionists (if they have them).

Posted by: psps23 | July 24, 2008 11:24 AM

And "Sports Guru",

Maybe you're a Guru of other sports outside of football...I don't know if JC banged your wife or what, but blaming him for another player pulling a hammy is the most ridiculous thing I believe I've read you say. And that's saying a lot.

While you're at it, why don't we lay the Iraq War at JC's doorstep? My dad's stroke? Maybe he kidnapped that little girl in Florida? He WAS in Tampa last year...

Trade Jason Campbell for a ham sandwich and a bowl of SOUP.

Posted by: Anonymous | July 24, 2008 11:24 AM

The injuries to Phillip Daniels and the back-up defensive end showed the glaring problem with this year's draft. There's ZERO chance that all three players we drafted in the second round this year make it on the field, so why not draft for need? Now we have a glut of receivers and hardly anyone who can back-up Jason Taylor or Andre Carter.

Actually, the Training Staff has EVERYTHING to do with preventing injuries. They institute the training regimens that the players follow. If they instituted the proper stretching and strength regimens, pulled muscles would be ALOT less common.

I have never had or seen a training staff institute a stretching and strength regimen. That's always been a job of strength & conditioning coaches. Training staffs take care of injuries, but they aren't primarily involved in preventing them.

The update says that Jim Zorn doesn't expect Thomas to be out "too long." Kelly has seemed to be the better WR so far in training camp, now he'll get even more reps with the starters. Thomas should be back by the Opener against the Giants, but expect Kelly to take the #3 spot on the WR depth chart, followed by Devin Thomas.

hamstrings are a different muscle set-up, most pulls are tears, sometimes the internal tear can't be seen--
treatment increase circulation (heat & cold)only ice first 48 hours

causes imbalance muscle development of the leg (front to back)

from the American Academy of Orthapedic Surgeons;
Strains and Tears
When one muscle group is much stronger than its opposing muscle group, the imbalance can lead to a strain. This frequently happens with the hamstring muscles. The quadriceps muscles are usually much more powerful, so the hamstring may become fatigued faster than the quadriceps. A fatigued muscle cannot relax as easily when its opposing muscle contracts, leading to strains.

Muscle strains are overuse injuries that result when the muscle is stretched without being properly warmed up. It's like pulling a rubber band too long. Eventually, the rubber band will either lose its shape or tear apart. The same thing happens with muscles.

Posted by: Alex35332 | July 24, 2008 11:42 AM

Sounds like Thomas and Kelly are learning two seperate receiver positions w/Kelly learning the X position. This injury would not seem to affect him being on the field more often.

Which makes sense to me that Kelly is in the #2 receiver position. Thomas if the faster of the two and the least developed of the two and should be groomed to play behind SMoss or come off the bench into that position.

Golston was a starter his rookie year. You can't have every backup be a capable starter. For that matter, Devin Thomas/Malcolm Kelly/James Thrash wouldn't be an "answer" to a season long injury (this season) to Moss or ARE either.

Posted by: psps23 | July 24, 2008 11:45 AM

When are people going to stop thinking this is just case after case of bad luck, and start to realize that maybe -- just maybe -- our training/medical staff isn't doing a very good job. This is getting ridiculous. No, I'm sorry -- this isn't GETTING ridiculous, it's been ridiculous for over a year now.

Posted by: psps23 | July 24, 2008 11:05 AM

Semantics. The POINT IS that the injuries have gone beyond bad luck and coincidence, and it has become clear that some members of the Redskins staff -- be it the medical/training staff or the strength and conditioning people or both -- are not doing their jobs properly. I don't care who is to blame, just find them and get rid of them.

From the Times:

Washington's top draft pick, wideout Devin Thomas, left practice early with what coach Jim Zorn deemed a pulled hamstring. He said the severity wouldn't be known until after the rookie from Michigan State was evaluated.

Thomas fell after failing to haul in a long pass down the right sideline and immediately began clutching the back of his right leg. He also had some blood on his leg after he got up and rode off the field on a cart. Zorn also said defensive end Chris Wilson strained a calf during the morning session, but didn't think it was serious.

Jason Taylor also had a big ice wrap on his forearm coming off the field, but Zorn said it was just typical camp bumps and bruises.

UPDATE: Wilson has a left calf strain and is out of practice this afteroon. Thomas' injury is being called a right hamstring strain, but we'll get another update this afternoon.

The part about the blood is confusing?? Was it his, was it someone elses's? Where did it come from?

Ah, it's great to be from Washington where everything is solved by the two-step process: (1) blame someone; (2) fire them.

What can we do, though, if no one is to blame? The Empire State building is hit by lightning 50 times a year. This should stop! Let's (1) blame someone then (2) fire them. That should solve it.

Everyone gets off on the 40 times, but you're not running in full pads WITH a mouthpiece in and a helmet on. Conditioning is what sets the "football" speedsters from the track speedsters. TO doesn't run a 4.3 40, but he's always open deep. Kelly has the chance to be a star. Thomas, good number 2, move the chains guy.

post hoc, ergo, propter hoc.

Latin for "after it, therefore, because of it"

Its a common mistake I guess. One has nothing to do with the other. Unless there is a video of Campbell biting this man on his hamstring then the connection cannot be made.

not sure that's the case this year. ol' todd collins may have excelled last year strictly because he knew every play in the 700 page playbook. this year he has no such ace up his sleeve. colt (4)5 most likely needs a lot of work too so we may as well get used to soup for the time being.

It turns out its the equipment guy's fault.

Turns out the football on the play where Thomas got hurt was mistakenly filled gummy bears instead of air.

Excellent Post. You'll get ripped for it, of course, but your'e a prophet in your time. Posts on the net are like road rage. Same psychology. You aren't really hating on a person, just a screen name, just as you aren't' mad at a little old lady, but her 82 Buick that just cut you off. But she gets the hate anyway.

I'm actually a nice guy who finds himself savagely attacking certain screen names or Anons, posts probably written by people I'd enjoy having a beer with. What can I say, something takes over.

Of course it's a great place for true nut jobs, too, the REAL cellar dwellers in their Mama's House have adopted the net, boards, and certainly this one.

As you no doubt know it goes well beyond sports boards. Political boards are a Petri dish of psychoses. Say what you will about the 'net, for all the good it does the worst thing it does is enables Hate.

Reading the comments is an addiction. The worst part is some real insight is mixed in with all the crap. If I was Jasno, I'd NEVER read it. Same thing for the new kid at redskins park blog. They should run him thru a metal detector because he's young and not used to the Hate he's encountered.

Posted by: Corkczar | July 24, 2008 12:53 PM

people are tough behind the wheel or at a computer. they get to be a person they're physically afraid to be in real life. Words on a computer screen are just that. I just got back from dealing the WSOP and you would be amazed how inhuman (is that a word) people act because they're at a poker table as opposed to almost anywhere else on the planet.

JLC hates the Skins - it's a known fact.

Anyone else notice all his "updates" are always doom and gloom with only a throw away sentence for anything that is remotely positive?

Every team has injuries and bumps and bruises in training camp. JLC is over-emphasizing this just to stick it to the people here who love the team.

Give us some real updates: position battles, who's standing out, who's under-performing, rookie standouts, behind the scenes chatter, etc.

Come on JLC, try to put the petty stuff behind you and act like a real journalist.

I know this comment will get dismissed by all the regulars who think that JLC actually has a vested interest in them and think that because they have no lives and comment here 24/7 their voice is somehow important, but please take this comment seriously. JLC is a bad reporter who has lost his ability to be objective. The man has talent - he's shown that in glimpses, but it's been severely overshadowed by his personal vendetta against the people who run the team. I'm not asking for a reporter to cover the team and look through maroon and black (ha) colored glasses. Yet acting like every hammy tweak or stiff knee is somehow the end of the world is ridiculous. Do us all a favor JLC and resign this post with dignity.

The hammy problem is clearly the government's fault. If they did not stand in the way of free enterprise, medical science would already have invented and marketed an anti-hammy-whammy vaccine that would prevent hamstring injuries.

Vote Republican. A vote for Barack Obama is a vote for more of these nagging injuries. The Redskins will never win with a Democrat in the White House.

The Truth wonders if Hater even read the post. The Truth pastes it here so Hater can re-read it. The Truth doesn't see any "doom and gloom" in the following :

"Devin Thomas, the wide receiver who was the Redskins' first overall pick in the April draft, was taken from the field on a cart after suffering what Coach Jim Zorn said is a pulled hamstring.

A 6-2, 218-pounder from Michigan State, Thomas was a second-round pick."

Also, The Truth notes that he is not a regular and doesn't even understand the weird relationships people seem to have to the writer here. The Truth doesn't care either.

Camp Day 5: They Said What?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Site Staff
WarpathInsiders.com Jul 24, 2008

Read what Jim Zorn, Fred Davis and Santana Moss had to say after the AM Practice Session today.

Redskins Head Coach Jim Zorn On Devin Thomas:

"I guess when he came down off of that long throw he pulled his hamstring. We don't know the extent of it, but he's got a bit of a hamstring pull. After we evaluate it, we can figure out what it means for him as far as getting back out on the field. We'll get it calmed down, get it iced, evaluate it and get the diagnosis. Fortunately it's just a pulled muscle and there's no structural damage, so he'll be back soon."

On running back Ladell Betts:

"I see him playing a lot. I see him complimenting what Clinton [Portis] does. I see us even having the opportunity to use both Clinton and Ladell at times. I look at Ladell and Clinton as good zone runners and excellent pass blockers. They do a really nice job in pass patterns."

On all of the media attention surrounding Jason Taylor:

"It doesn't distract me and I don't think it distracts anyone else either. It's a big thing to have Jason Taylor, a 12-year veteran, come here and become a part of our program. As the initial excitement moves on, we'll all get to work and get going."

On safety LaRon Landry:

"Well, I'm a fortunate man to have LaRon Landry on my side now because he's very versatile. He sort of distorts reads at times because he appears like he's in a position like other DBs, but once he reacts and responds he actually makes up more ground than most other defenders that I've been around. He makes what might be a big play into a batted ball or an interception. He's very skilled."

On veteran receiver Billy McMullen:

"He's good and he's fast. He understands more than one position and that's a real asset. I think the more that he's been in the league the more he understands what it takes to stick. He's competing hard and doing very well."

On rookie receivers Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas:

"We're all impressed with what Malcolm is doing because he's been very mellow. He's not a big voice, but he makes a statement when he's on the field. I think the thing that has really helped both of them is that they've done a really nice job concentrating on one position and their responsibilities and that's really making a difference in how fast they're progressing."

On veteran linebacker London Fletcher:

"What I like about London is that he totally enjoys the game and when he's on the field he is a football player. What I mean by that is he has this knack of turning this grit on, and he just pulls everybody up with him. He is a big man when it comes to his attitude about playing the game, and I think our players really respect him and respond to him."

Redskins Tight End Fred Davis

On if tight end Chris Cooley has given him advice:

"He tells me stuff if he sees me doing something [wrong] that I can make myself better at and try do a block better or run routes, just anything he sees. It definitely helps."

On if he thinks he will be heavily involved with the offense:

"I think there is going to be a lot of passing around to everybody. In this offense, anybody can get the ball."

On if he has had any rookie hazing:

"There hasn't been too much. I was supposed to sing but I didn't sing. They have been okay to me, except if you want to take a shower, they make you wait or if you are on the bus you have to move. Other than that, it is hasn't been too bad."

Redskins Wide Receiver Santana Moss

On what type of impact he hopes to have in the offense:

"As a receiver you hope to have an impact in any offense. With that said, you have a lot of opportunities in this offense. Opportunities come and go so you have to take advantage of them when they come. With the wide open spread [offense] and the receivers we can have on the field at times, it should take all the pressure off me individually. No matter who you are, you are going to have a chance to make a big play."

On Devin Thomas being injured during practice:

"I just saw him fall; I don't really know what happened. I am just praying and hoping that he can bounce back."

On the difference among the offense over the last three seasons:

"In 2006 and 2007 the offense was totally different from 2005. Opportunities changed a lot. In 2005 I was in the slot, I was an X [receiver], I was a Z [receiver]. Once we brought more receivers in and changed the offense up, I stayed in one position."

On whether he thinks he is the Redskins' top receiver:

"I don't go into this thing saying I am the number one man. I feel like that is given to you by your coaching staff and your team. I am out here to do my job and whatever they call me number one, two, three, four, or five, it doesn't make me less than the other guys. I feel like if we go out their and work as a corp, we can all be number one."

On how the team is adapting to the west coast offense:

"I am happy with it. I think that we are making progress. It is going to be one of those things that we are going to get better with. In training camp you have two practices, a morning and an afternoon, so you have time to try something different or go over some of the stuff that you didn't do well in the first practice. I feel that as long as we progress every week, every day we should be able to be better. It is looking good right now. [Coach Zorn] is giving us enough to really take advantage of. He is not giving us the whole thing and saying go out there and know everything."

On Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas:

"Malcolm and Devin are guys that look like they have been here before. They are not guys that are just thrilled to be here. You get some guys that are just happy to make it to this level. These guys have been working hard since day one, since they have been out here and they look like real good talents. I talk to Malcolm a lot and tell him he reminds me of Andre Johnson."

On trying to help the rookie receivers:

"I feel like I don't have too, but I feel like I should. My first year in the league I had Laveranues [Coles] and Wayne Chrebet and those guys were everything for me. Anything I didn't do right or anything I was doing too much of, they made sure they told me about it. That is stuff I do now. We are all helping. You see [Antwaan] Randle El, you see James Thrash. Everyone has to help these young guys because we have seen it and have been through it."

Could NOT have happened at a better position for the 'skins. In case no one noticed, thw redskins are lousy with receivers, as opposed to the recent past, when they just had lousy receivers.

Linebacker? CB? RB? Disaster. But the team has WRs to spare.

By the way on the northeast bit, I have immediate and extended family in the NJ/upstate NY area. Gonna be visiting my grandmother in S. NJ, within an hour of Atlantic city.

I really say they need a different conditioning program due to the rash of injuries in the past couple of days. The ACL should have never happened to Daniels. This one is not as bad because of the unpredictability of hamstring injuries, but still. You gotta make sure that the players' hammies are both extremely strong and warmed up by the time they get to camp.

Posted by: Karen | July 24, 2008 2:00 PM

Ouch. Worst part of the injury time, whether it's 2 weeks or 2 months, is the practice time he's losing, which is always critical for any WR on a new team, and even more so when going from College to NFL speeds.

IF you wind up with Terry Glenn because of this, I will really be PO'd.
