I think the Steinbog did a great job with his break down, but a smile begin to spread across my face when he started comparing the WaPo blogs.

I like Steinbog. I really do. But his threads get NO love. Kind of threw some manure at Jasno and Ivan Carter (Wizards Insider).

They may not post 5 threads a day, but their "post a comment" section is always substantially larger than the Bog.

Everyone needs a nickname, we just hired another Alex at my office so I need to come out with a knew nickname for this job. I have one guy call me, Ziceter, but I don't see it catching. In my life I have also heared Zeeseman, Zeesemister, Alexander the almost as great, and Jewbaca.

Come on, Cindy, he's only giving us one freakin' vowel to work with. (All due respect to his heritage and so forth.)

My nickname at my first stint at UK was spiderwoman. I got it for climbing on the lab benches and all over the place in the lab in order to retrieve stuff on the top shelves. Being shorter than 5' 1" makes it necessary to do some climbing, which I wasn't shy about.

I've also been told my ghost will haunt my old school's bio building until the end of time because I was in there almost continuously.

We have travel money to cover the Redskins; we can't blow it all on Aug. 2, though. We allocate funds the first of every year and that money will be there, no matter what...you have to be somewhat conservative in case the team really starts rolling and you want to add a person.
What we don't have a lot of, because of the Olympics, is people. We lose Les and Loogs to the Games of Summer.

As an avid Nats TV watcher (To obtain a good sleep), the problem is, you don't know any of these guys.

The past few years, I knew most of them. This year, I am only familiar with 2 or 3 that are currently playing at the moment.

In conclusion, the Lerners will be worst than Angelos and Snyder combined. They aren't worried about winning championships. They're worried about profits. I bet they turn a profit this year due to the very low payroll they have.

I think it would be great to send a bunch of hamster bloggers along to give the fan boy opinion. I mean, Jason and Jason (sounds like a law firm) are great for high quality unbiased reporting, and the columnists are awesome at the in depth analysis. No one cares about the Olimpics do they? Personally I think we need to compleatly overhaul the olimpic games. Here is what I would do.

1. No more "sports" with judges giving raitings. Its only a sport if there is a clear scoring system that cannot change off personal bias. If we keep them fine, but don't waste my TV space with them.

2. More focus on the cooler sports. I never can find archery or fensing or any fighting on TV durring the olimpics. But seeing some asshat prancing on a mat with a ribbon, easy.

3. Bring back the musical, poetry, theater parts of the olimpics like the greeks had.

4. Do them nude.

Love the positive predictions for the team. Gotta to say the car is fully loaded and ready. As for me and why I'm so happy today. It's my youngest daughter's 1st birthday today. She is created with Down Syndrome and was born with a heart defect - PDA. She had successful surgery two months ago, a scary bout with post-operative pnuemonia but she is healing up just right. Meanwhile I had two herniated discs, then myelitis and now it turns out that I may have the onset of M.S. Long story short. We've been in and out the hospital for two months but I love life and the Washington Redskins!

Forgot to chime in on The Truth. Sometimes, I like the The Truth; sometimes like Jack Nicholson in "A Few Good Men," I can't handle The Truth - tne incessant uga stuff and other times. But generally, I dig the The Truth but this truth won't set you free from spit.

The problem is that there is too many people worrying about a bunch of crap that doesn't really matter. The thinking that they should be the moral watchdog for everyone else is just a crock when I bet you could walk within 10 miles of their homes and find someone without a home, or without a job, or addicted to something. As for me and why I'm so happy today. It's my youngest daughter's 1st birthday today. She is created with Down Syndrome and was born with a heart defect - PDA. She had successful surgery two months ago, a scary bout with post-operative pnuemonia but she is healing up just right. Meanwhile I had two herniated discs, then myelitis and now it turns out that I may have the onset of M.S. Long story short. We've been in and out the hospital for two months but I love life and the Washington Redskins!

Best of luck, Ben. I have an idea of how it is to be stuck in a hospital for an extended period: in the same week two years ago, my dad had open heart surgery after multiple strokes and heart ailments AND my daughter had some complications at birth. It was a bit touch and go that first week of her life. That was the hardest week of my life and I can only imagine what it is to live that way for a year. Well wishes and good luck to you and yours!

And on a lighter note, why are the Skins selling rookie jerseys? There was no first round pick this year, not to mention it's kind of tacky that I can wear Devin Thomas' jersey before he does!

Calm down, my friend. This is the silliest part of the silly season. They've finished the "cutest mascot" contest (Chief Zee must have lost because there's nothing about it on the Redskins website), and there's a countdown clock on CBS.com showing, to the second, how long until the HOF game. (This should same Bangkok Ben from calculating it himself.)

The lead headline right now on CBS.com is "Broncos sign two fifth-rounders, sixth-round pick." That's the big news from the NFL.

So, ESPN assigns one of its lamest reporters to "write something, anything" and this is what the intern came up with. All the less lame reporters are on vacation.

Fortunately, all this will be settled -- in due course -- on the field. And by the time it is, you will have forgotten all about it and the lamest reporter will be back at college in his third year of studying journalism. And, the Redskins will be in the playoffs.

I'm with you, TE. These are indeed the dog days of summer for football fans. But that's no excuse for incompetence. Keith Kidd's list is incompetent. His list is about the equivalent of me saying that the Vikings have the best QB situation in the NFL and that the NFC North is the best division. Just ridiculous.

Because despite the injury concerns, Moss is a Pro-Bowler with game breaking capabilities and ARE has shown himself to be a solid #2. The only caveat is WHEN HEALTHY--both guys missed considerable time last year. And with the rookies--if they were starters I'd agree with your take. But they're seldom (if ever) going to be lined up across from the opponent's best corner, and neither guy is going to be any higher than 2nd on the depth chart. They're both 2nd round picks with 1st round grades, so they're not exactly Anthony Mix. So I'm not saying they should be top 10 or anything, just not 21st and below the Houston f-ing Texans.

I'm not a huge NASCAR fan but I watch occassionally and I do know one thing. Toyota has a big advantage this year because of some horspower diiferential rule that they are benefitting from. I'm not sure the ins and outs of the rule but NASCAR basically gave then an advantage so they could establish themselves. Next year a rule goes into place that evens the playing field. Something about a 5 horsepower differential limit between all manufacturers. At least thats what I understand. So the playing field will supposedly be narrowed again and the races will return to who's the best driver. That's my understanding anyway. That's all I've got on NASCAR. As far as the rankings at WR... I think's it's crap but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Santana hasn't put up huge numbers in a couple of years and isn't breaking games open like he did that one year. I think this (or next) may be his year because I think teams will have too many receivers that they have to cover and can't focus on him too much.

ESPN did a ranking like this before the 2006 season. The Skins ranked in the top 10 for every offensive position except QB, where they ranked in the top 15. If I recall correctly, the DB and LB faired pretty good on those rankings as well. How good were the 2006 Redskins?
Offseason rankings and predictions mean nothing to me. Especially with Zorn as a complete unknown (good or bad) commodity. You also cannot forecast things like injuries, breakout years, veterns declining, etc. If TO or Witten gets hurt this year, everyone's prediction about Dallas going to the Super Bowl will be finished. Same goes for Brady and the Pats.
I know it is the ultimate cliche, but we will just have to wait and see...

I don't have anything I can add on the NASCAR discussion but I do have a qork-related question for all.

I have to interview a candidate for the role that I have been acting in (sucessfully) for the last couple of months. It seems at this time I won't even be given an interview for the position, and the guy I'm meeting today is plainly exaggerating on his resume (I know a lot of people where he worked for many years and back-channeled them on his 'claims').

So, do I:

$. Play the good corporate guy and give him a fair interview and a chance to get the job, or,
6. blow him up in the first 2 minutes?

It's all the same to me, either way, but Cindy if the WaPo has need of an overpaid and underworking strategic marketing guy, please let me know! Actually on second thoughts, the 'overpaid and underworking' part of my previous sentence is tautological, as I said I was in strategic marketing.

All suggestions welcomed.

Instead of just "blowing him up" in the first two minutes, I'd make it as uncomfortable as possible for him by asking pointed questions involving the activities that you know he did not do. RC, myself, I'd go with #$. You never know how this could come back to you. Tis better to toe the company line, and be fair, than to give anyone any ammo against you.

being "fair" is relative. Be fair to the candidate by giving him a chance to explain (using examples, situational analysis, etc.) his experience. But you should also be fair to your company by not blindly accepting claims that you know to be untrue. If he truly doesn't have the claimed experience, it will be obvious when he has to come up with examples and relevant situational behaviors.

Blowing up is not nearly as fun as making them sweat it out. I mean without too much detail what do you mean by exaggerating the resume? Is he lying blatantly, or just taking more credit than he should? I don't think you should toe the line, because ultimately not hiring a guy who is lying is better for the company. I say, go with the quick jabs about the exaggerations and see how he reacts. Make him hot under the collar.

Be careful though. I come from the Bruno/Barno school of thought and have little respect for cheaters, manipulators, "victims", etc. You may not want to consider my unpopular "extreme" opinions.

I think you have to take into account how bad the exaggerations are. In an interview, you're selling yourself. You emphasize the positives in you and downplay (or outright ignore) the negatives. If he's bending the truth or straight lying on his resume, he needs to be called out on it now. If he's just puffing, I'd let it go.

The bottom line is can he do the job effectively and is he the best man for the job. If you can answer that in the affirmative AND feel like you can trust the guy, I'd give him a shot.

I think he's actually worse than Strahan. Strahan just wanted out of training camp. Favre wanted out of everything except the games on Sunday. What he said at his press conference was, "I just don't think I can give anything else, aside from the three hours on Sundays, and in football you can't do that. It's a total commitment, and up to this point I have been totally committed....As I looked at this upcoming season, I said, I probably could get myself prepared to play. That really didn't have that much of a bearing on my decision. It's tough on everybody. But it was more the in-season strain."

RC, I think you have to ask fair but relevant questions and let him illustrate his strengths but maybe more importantly his weaknesses. Let him show what he knows but also make him show what he does not. is the depth of his knowledge worth the time and energy it will take to bring the rest of his game up to par? If he's straight up lying, you should be able to make him step on his own dick.

RC - has anyone asked what might be an obvious question...why in the SJK are they asking YOU to interview someone for a job that you are currently filling - being close to the Talent Evaluator modus operandi at work, I would step up to the plate and do the best I could when I'm asked to interview -

To answer your question - distilling what other people have said - Ask tough questions that will expose any and all weakensses in his experience, regardless if it's puffed up or not - it's not fair to your company to hire someone who can't do the job

I prefer someone to "shoot off at the mouth" with valuable input than an invertebrate.

But you are right.....personal aspirations should always be taken into consideration. There are places at most businesses for the invertebrates as well, and those positions do need to be filled. Kind of the "non-value added" but necessary activities.

Ah - Sir Anonymous the Great has the answer to everything, I see - his workplace is perfect, filled with people that have spirited debate regarding any and all issues without any personal rancor or retribution.

As a manager, I encourage everyone who works with me to share their thoughts regarding what's going on. My director overheard a spirited discussion one day and asked me why I let people argue with me. - I told him that that was the way I found out what was going on, and he still didn't agree - my point being, if only the working world was just as picture perfect as SATG made it out to be, it would be just swell.

Of course, maybe if you are you just having a discussion with yourself, you can say whatever the heck you want.

And if I were the one, for some reason asking him to ignore a fraudulent resume, I would hope that he would have the personal conviction to proactively take his toys and play in someone else's sandbox.

And it is not "any and all issues". It's any and all issues pertaining to the enhancement of the organization vision, goals, and strategies. Anyone making an honest effort to support these are encouraged to provide spirited debate and input.

Listed here -- http://www.usajobs.gov/ -- are 49,817 jobs with the federal government. Each is worthy of a knight, although a few pay more than the rest. My advice is to seek out those with the greater salaries. Remain loyal and you shall prevail.

Brown, its an optional team they installed that you can use. look at the Madden Blog on ea's sight, they added in the 2008 Packers roster with names and such as maps.

To answer the above question, all the management in the teams I deal are all puzzled as to why they're being asked to meet the guy, quote-unquote "but you're already doing this role and it's working, isn't it?".

We do have an 'SVP' who doesn;t like me because I embarrassed him in a meeting by explaining carefully how a particular statement he made was not fact-based in any way and was actually 180 degrees inaccurate. He's probably at back of this because in the absence of my former boss, I notionally report to him (although he never speaks to me).

The candidate concerned is exaggerating some key claims in his resume that underpin his suitability for the role. I spent an hour talking with a good friend who is a recent former colleague of his and he has validated all that I had heard separately.

Irregardless (sorry cload) of all this, I've decided to give the guy a chance (my friend says he's a good guy but "VERY full of himself") but I'll ask questions that he will need to answer well to prove that he can back up what he's claiming even if it wasn't him that did those things before. If he can do that he'll prove at least that he can glom knowledge from other people and reuse it correctly in context.

I don't have the luxury of 'walking away' on this one, although my CV has some of those in the past. Age has somewhat dimmed my fiery streak and replaced it instead with Macchiavellian revenge-based plotting ALWAYS 'served cold'.

Btw isn't that the best example of special treatment of Farve. No the packers were not one of 2 superbowl teams that year,which usually qualifies past teams for staying in a Madden series. But they leave him in anyway. Yet I don't think you can find a team with Dan Mareno on it in the great teams.

I have'nt bought a new Madden game in a while, but it always ticked me off that the past great teams were all fouled up in terms of players numbers. I can understand that they don't want to pay royalties to former players and not use their names, but to have the starting qb on the 82 skins (Thiesmann) have the number 6, and the starting RB (Riggins) have no. 22 or whatever, etc, was just awful. At least do some research and get the numbers right.....Everyone knows if you are playing the 84 Dolphins, the QB should be no. 13, not whatever made up number they use. Doesn't even really feel like you are playing the guys you remember at all. Don't get me started on their player rankings/stats/scores/whatever.....Does anyone know if they have fixed this since Madden 2005?

I like #1. Without it, #2 would be easy -- but it would include about 400 Nate in the PDX and another 30 Nate with the PMS. You know, we have 59 people registered on the Wiki.

I don't know about on 08 or the PS3/xbox360 games but the 2007 did not have the right names and stuff either. Than again, I stoped playing with HOF teams once they stoped putting them in the classic stadiums. I loved taking the 91 skins as my team because they played in RFK. Its not right to play as the Oilers in Tenn., the original Texans in K.C. Or the LA Rams in Stl.

Has anyone posted espn's top 10 list of TE units in the league? It's an insider article, and clearly I'm too cheap to pay for espn insider access, though I'd like to see where the skins rank on that.

I hope if registration ever returns, I can maintain my name. I have grown quite fond of it.

Unfortunately, having arrived after this highly touted registration went away, I have no way of knowing the logistics of it.

No problem. It was basically a land rush, but I don't think many people will try to beat you to this particular stake.

Even if they do, there were lots of ways to foil the system and we still had multiple Nate in the PDX's.
