Redskins Insider, by Jason La Canfora Redskins Insider

Shifting Gears...

We need a new thread...interesting discussion yesterday about religion, although I'm crushed to learn that you guys hate Cyn.

Coach Joe is back in the news...It looked like such a simple move when Gibbs went back to his eponymous racing company...Oh, sure. He's got 18-year-old Joey Logano, who is billed as NASCAR's next superstar (will he have to sit on the bench for two years, learning the Al Saunders driving manual?), but now Tony Stewart is making like Michael Jordan at Verizon Center and leaving JGR in a cloud of dust. "While this moment is bittersweet, we're parting on good terms and we know that each of us has benefited greatly from the other," J.D. Gibbs said in a statement.

And now, back to fubball. And coverage. Some of you have moseyed over to Steinbog...Give him a read.

Otherwise, there's nothing percolating at the moment. To answer a question from the other day, I would expect draft picks to sign next week. It's pretty typical for them to be unsigned at this point. I wouldn't worry.

Awesome, thanks for keeping us in new threads, Cindy.

I *heart* Cyn.

Ooooh, the Rooney Rule....

Posted by: Cindy | July 9, 2008 2:05 PM

And, thanks, Nate! I'm feeling better.

Posted by: Cindy | July 9, 2008 2:08 PM

I coulda sworn that said Rodney Rule.

That's where you have to leave enough room in the front so you can reach in and adjust your shorts, right?

No Dik thats the roomy rule. The Rooney Rule is that all child actors must eventually become crazy old grouches and do spots on 60 min.

I also agree with PDX.

On another matter, Barry Svrluga is in the office right now and he wasn't as eagerly accepting of his new nickname (The Loogs or Loogs) as I had hoped. We're gonna have to rough him up a little.

With a name like that, how could he pass on a nickname like "B-Luga"? (As in Beluga, as in whale?)

Posted by: Anonymous | July 9, 2008 2:39 PM

I could understand it if he hated B-Luga...I think that if he doesn't embrace this, we're going to have to eat his liver with some fava beans and a nice kee-anty. You know how we roll up here.

Posted by: Cindy | July 9, 2008 2:41 PM

I think the Steinbog did a great job with his break down, but a smile begin to spread across my face when he started comparing the WaPo blogs.

I like Steinbog. I really do. But his threads get NO love. Kind of threw some manure at Jasno and Ivan Carter (Wizards Insider).

They may not post 5 threads a day, but their "post a comment" section is always substantially larger than the Bog.

Send him a memo from the new Head Brocolli explaining that everyone has to have a nickname in the New Post and he's The Loogs. He'll take to the name immediately. Yours is Cyn City, same as it's always been.

Posted by: talent evaluator | July 9, 2008 2:44 PM

you cant just go with Luger?

Posted by: Alex35332 | July 9, 2008 2:52 PM

Everyone needs a nickname, we just hired another Alex at my office so I need to come out with a knew nickname for this job. I have one guy call me, Ziceter, but I don't see it catching. In my life I have also heared Zeeseman, Zeesemister, Alexander the almost as great, and Jewbaca.

Posted by: Alex35332 | July 9, 2008 2:56 PM

Come on, Cindy, he's only giving us one freakin' vowel to work with. (All due respect to his heritage and so forth.)

Loogs is better than Loogie, right?

Maybe Luge (pronounced like that winter Olympic sport)?

Every time I hear the name Barry, I think of Barry White, Marion Barry, and that skit on "The State" in which a slimy swinger guy introduces himself as "Barry, Sagittarius." So what I'm saying is, I'd be happy to refer to the new beat reporter as "Barry, Sagittarius."

We have GOT to get this resolved by training camp.

Also, who from WashPo are going to Canton for HOF weekend? The three beat guys plus Steinbog plus one of the columnists? It's gonna be a big weekend, right?

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | July 9, 2008 2:56 PM

Why don't you just call him alphabet.

Posted by: scampbell1975 | July 9, 2008 2:57 PM

Luger is very solid. I was happy with Cyn until everyone turned against it on the last post.

Posted by: Cindy | July 9, 2008 2:57 PM

"One B, B-A-B-A-R."

"That's two B's."

"Yeah, but not right next to each other, that's what I thought you meant."

I realize that Svrluga has two count'em TWO vowels. Still, not a lot. That's a 5:2 consonant to vowel ratio.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | July 9, 2008 2:59 PM

Or you could name him after that stupid UGA mascot, Roadkill.

Posted by: scampbell1975 | July 9, 2008 2:59 PM

How about Vanna?

Posted by: scampbell1975 | July 9, 2008 3:00 PM

It would be interesting to see how many pages of playbook Al could make out of a 500-mile left turn. Although the misdirection plays could be entertaining.

Posted by: groundhogdayguy | July 9, 2008 3:01 PM

My nickname at my first stint at UK was spiderwoman. I got it for climbing on the lab benches and all over the place in the lab in order to retrieve stuff on the top shelves. Being shorter than 5' 1" makes it necessary to do some climbing, which I wasn't shy about.

I've also been told my ghost will haunt my old school's bio building until the end of time because I was in there almost continuously.

Posted by: Karen | July 9, 2008 3:02 PM

Didn't you read the STeinbog? No travel money to cover the Redskins -- they're all going to a baseball game.

Posted by: talent evaluator | July 9, 2008 3:03 PM

I feel like this plan is coming together nicely:
1) Get Svrlugian nickname resolved by training camp (even though he'll be in Beijing);
2) Get Alex's nickname resolved pronto (hey, it could be Pronto!)
3) Send some people to HOF weekend. (At the moment, it's the two Jasons and Wise.)

Posted by: Cindy | July 9, 2008 3:03 PM

Nicknames? For a name I can't pronounce? I got Barry. But how do you pronounce his last name "serv-LUG-ra"?

But whatever I guess.

Posted by: Greg | July 9, 2008 3:08 PM

So is Luger the third man in on Skins beat, or is someone off....I am confused....

Posted by: chris larry | July 9, 2008 3:08 PM

We have travel money to cover the Redskins; we can't blow it all on Aug. 2, though. We allocate funds the first of every year and that money will be there, no matter what...you have to be somewhat conservative in case the team really starts rolling and you want to add a person.
What we don't have a lot of, because of the Olympics, is people. We lose Les and Loogs to the Games of Summer.

As an avid Nats TV watcher (To obtain a good sleep), the problem is, you don't know any of these guys.

The past few years, I knew most of them. This year, I am only familiar with 2 or 3 that are currently playing at the moment.

In conclusion, the Lerners will be worst than Angelos and Snyder combined. They aren't worried about winning championships. They're worried about profits. I bet they turn a profit this year due to the very low payroll they have.

Thanks MLB with sticking us with these guys.

I think it would be great to send a bunch of hamster bloggers along to give the fan boy opinion. I mean, Jason and Jason (sounds like a law firm) are great for high quality unbiased reporting, and the columnists are awesome at the in depth analysis. But I need to read a few more articles with random insertions of SKINS RULE!!!!!, and WE ARE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL!!!!!!

There are far too few uses of CAPS LOCK & exclamation points in the post's articles now days. I hate to say it Cindy, but as the head of that sports section I think the blame falls squarely on you.

Posted by: Alex35332 | July 9, 2008 3:21 PM

I think Barry's nickname should be -

Svrl

(Pronounciation optional - or varied!)

Posted by: charlie | July 9, 2008 3:33 PM

No one cares about the Olimpics do they? Personally I think we need to compleatly overhaul the olimpic games. Here is what I would do.

1. No more "sports" with judges giving raitings. Its only a sport if there is a clear scoring system that cannot change off personal bias. If we keep them fine, but don't waste my TV space with them.

2. More focus on the cooler sports. I never can find archery or fensing or any fighting on TV durring the olimpics. But seeing some asshat prancing on a mat with a ribbon, easy.

3. Bring back the musical, poetry, theater parts of the olimpics like the greeks had.

4. Do them nude.

Posted by: Alex35332 | July 9, 2008 3:34 PM

Svrl, as in swirl.....I kinda like it.

Posted by: Cindy | July 9, 2008 3:34 PM

I like the swirly suggestion, or maybe it was just swirl, but I like it.

But it's not like Shuler was as bad as Cryin' Leaf, and Dilfer was certainly not as good as Peyton, but Dilfer has a ring and played for what, 14 years? Ouch. I wonder if Gus Frerotte would have won the starting job from Dilfer? At least Gus is still playing right? What a win for the 90's front office!

Time for more newsishness:
Colts coach Tony Dungy has written a children's book he hopes will inspire kids to follow their big dreams.
"You Can Do It!" tells the story of a young Dungy, who has found a passion for sports, and his two sisters, who are interested in medicine. But Dungy's younger brother Linden remains undecided on what he should do with his life. Instead of following Dungy into athletics, Linden became a dentist.
Which leads me to ask: why, oh, why couldn't Herman Edwards have been Tony Dungy's little brother?

Thanks for the kind words, Nate. And we're reconfiguring my schedule so that I'm up here with you guys 24.7, with the promise of extra time off after the season (which never really ends -- doh!). Whew! what a conversation. Loved catching up on the comments because Football season is a stone's throw away.

Thank God for Cyn. I must say I love that lady. Cindy, IF I wasn't happily married with three kids and IF I had the will power of Alex Rodriguez you would so be my other woman. You totally rock keeping the blog alive, your comments, and of course everything else I hear about you from the other hamsters.

Sorry, if anyone took offense at me thanking the Almighty for Cyn. I'm a big fan of both Cyn and the triune God of the Bible but cringe when politics and religion are "discussed" on this blog. I hated reading through the anon Pharisee's comments. Dude grow some stone's and put a fake name there.

CL, you have to have the thickest skin of the blog. You're supreme and I love your sense of humor. Keep it up, you help the rest of wade through the comments. How you can be such a lightning rod for negativity/provocation continues to amaze me. But in the spirit of RI - F ChriS laRry.

Love the positive predictions for the team. Gotta to say the car is fully loaded and ready. It's a question of how fast the new driver can learn to race - that and if any major parts needing replacement mid-season - but for those not following the metaphor, 22 returning starters puts the 'skins at the top of the league in player continuity.

Nude Olympics? Power lifting anyone? I know the Thai ladys take home medals in power lifting but I don't want to see man or woman in that crouched position naked doing the clean and jerk.

As for me and why I'm so happy today. It's my youngest daughter's 1st birthday today. She is created with Down Syndrome and was born with a heart defect - PDA. She had successful surgery two months ago, a scary bout with post-operative pnuemonia but she is healing up just right. Meanwhile I had two herniated discs, then myelitis and now it turns out that I may have the onset of M.S. Long story short. We've been in and out the hospital for two months but I love life and the Washington Redskins!

If you had the will power of A-Rod, the fact that you're happily married with three kids would be irrelevant.

I am also pro-Truth. Anyone (almost) who keeps the blog rocking is okay with me. It's nice when there are a few messages waiting for me after a few minutes on the company throne with the Style section. You U.S. Americans crack me up.

Auto-correct can be a very helpful feature of any word-processing program. But when conservatives use it, they run the risk of embarrassing themselves.

The American Family Association's OneNewsNow website, for example, takes its AP articles and replaces the word "gay" with the word "homosexual." I'm not entirely sure why, but it seems to make the AFA happy. The group is, after all, pretty far out there.

The problem, of course, is that "gay" does not always mean what the AFA wants it to mean
Tyson Gay won the 100 meters at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials over the weekend. The AFA ran the story, but only after the auto-correct had "fixed" the article.

That means -- you guessed it -- the track star was renamed "Tyson Homosexual." The headline on the piece read, "Homosexual eases into 100 final at Olympic trials." Readers learned:

Tyson Homosexual easily won his semifinal for the 100 meters at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials and seemed to save something for the final later Sunday.

His wind-aided 9.85 seconds was a fairly cut-and-dry performance compared to what happened a day earlier. On Saturday, Homosexual misjudged the finish in his opening heat and had to scramble to finish fourth, then in his quarterfinal a couple of hours later, ran 9.77 to break the American record that had stood since 1999. [...]

Homosexual didn't get off to a particularly strong start in the first semifinal, but by the halfway mark he had established a comfortable lead. He slowed somewhat over the final 10 meters-nothing like the way-too-soon complete shutdown that almost cost him Saturday. Asked how he felt, Homosexual said: "A little fatigued."

Now, the AFA has since changed the article back to the way it was originally written by the AP reporter

Posted by: kost52 | July 9, 2008 11:11 PM

They changed the wrong thing:

Asked how he felt, Homosexual said: "A little fatigued."

should read

Asked how he felt, Homosexual said: "A little puffy, so be gentle with me."

The problem is that there is too many people worrying about a bunch of crap that doesn't really matter. The thinking that they should be the moral watchdog for everyone else is just a crock when I bet you could walk within 10 miles of their homes and find someone without a home, or without a job, or addicted to something. Yet they want to concentrate on people's words and whether someone will be offended. Considering what this country is blessed with it's pretty pathetic that most anyone is offended by mere words. If you want to be offended you can take a look around and I guarantee they can find something much more meaningful to be offended by. It all boils down to too much free time. They need to find something really constuctive to do with it. Like post on this blog! GO SKINS!!!

God, keep them away from "The Chronicles of Narnia." Old C.S. Lewis uses gay and queer in the old fashioned sense throughout the series. (Nothing to do with homosexuality, in case your under 25 and haven't looked in a dictionary.)

I'm about to calculate the hours before the HOF game, or first practice, or next signing, or Malcom Kelly's return from Liberia. Redskins football is approaching like a giamt meteor. Exciting!

Posted by: bangkokben | July 10, 2008 2:06 AM

Continuing with the religious-themed Redskins Insider I'm reminded of George Carlin's many takes on religion, one specifically comes from his last HBO special. He said:

"Here's another slogan you run into all the time, "God Bless America".

Once again, respectfully, I say to myself "What the #@&% does that mean?

"God Bless America?" Is that a request? Is tht a demand? Is that a suggestion? Politicians say it at the end of every speech, as if it was some sort of verbal tick that they can't get rid of.

I guess they figure if they leave it out someone is going to think they're "bad Americans". Let me tell you something folks, God Does not give a flying @#$* about America, ok? He doesn't care. He never cared about this country. He never has. He never will. He doesn't care about this country any more than he cares about Mongolia, Transylvania, Pittsburgh, the Suez Canal or the North Pole. He simply doesn't care, ok.

Listen, there are 200 countries in the world, do these people honestly think God is sitting around picking out his favorites?

Why would he do that?

Why would God have a favorite country? And why would it be America of all the countries? Because we have the most money? Because he likes our national anthem? Maybe it's because he heard we have 18 delicious flavours of classic Rice-O-Ronie?

It's Delusional Thinking.

If these people believe in God, they must have heard that God Loves Everyone, and he loves them equally. So why would these people ask God to do something that goes against his own teaching? Maybe they ought to check with that Jesus fella. They're always talking about "What would Jesus do?"

Dude always brought the truth when it came to religion.

Posted by: brownwood26 | July 10, 2008 6:16 AM

Calm down, my friend. This is the silliest part of the silly season. They've finished the "cutest mascot" contest (Chief Zee must have lost because there's nothing about it on the Redskins website), and there's a countdown clock on CBS.com showing, to the second, how long until the HOF game. (This should same Bangkok Ben from calculating it himself.)

The lead headline right now on CBS.com is "Broncos sign two fifth-rounders, sixth-round pick." That's the big news from the NFL.

So, ESPN assigns one of its lamest reporters to "write something, anything" and this is what the intern came up with. All the less lame reporters are on vacation.

Fortunately, all this will be settled -- in due course -- on the field. And by the time it is, you will have forgotten all about it and the lamest reporter will be back at college in his third year of studying journalism. And, the Redskins will be in the playoffs.

Re: receivers at 21 is wrong.

Let's not be total homers. There is a reason the 'Skins took WRs with their first 2 picks.

Moss underperformed last year due to injury, age, and size. Randle El is another smallish slot receiver. Neither receiver has much upside left.

Then there are the 2 unproven rookies; both might tank against NFL-quality DBs.

Someone tell me why the 'Skins are better than 21 at WR?

What is Smoke going to do when NASCAR is a one make series w/ Toyota as the only manufacturer in next 5 years?

NASCAR viewership is off big time. NASCAR reached its Zenith and now is on the decline.

And finally the Deadskins will finish 3-13 and real racers turn right and race in the rain!

Posted by: SCSkins | July 10, 2008 8:10 AM

Because despite the injury concerns, Moss is a Pro-Bowler with game breaking capabilities and ARE has shown himself to be a solid #2. The only caveat is WHEN HEALTHY--both guys missed considerable time last year. And with the rookies--if they were starters I'd agree with your take. But they're seldom (if ever) going to be lined up across from the opponent's best corner, and neither guy is going to be any higher than 2nd on the depth chart. They're both 2nd round picks with 1st round grades, so they're not exactly Anthony Mix. So I'm not saying they should be top 10 or anything, just not 21st and below the Houston f-ing Texans.

Posted by: | July 10, 2008 8:15 AM

I'm not a huge NASCAR fan but I watch occassionally and I do know one thing. Toyota has a big advantage this year because of some horspower diiferential rule that they are benefitting from. I'm not sure the ins and outs of the rule but NASCAR basically gave then an advantage so they could establish themselves. Next year a rule goes into place that evens the playing field. Something about a 5 horsepower differential limit between all manufacturers. At least thats what I understand. So the playing field will supposedly be narrowed again and the races will return to who's the best driver. That's my understanding anyway. That's all I've got on NASCAR. As far as the rankings at WR... I think's it's crap but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Santana hasn't put up huge numbers in a couple of years and isn't breaking games open like he did that one year. I think this (or next) may be his year because I think teams will have too many receivers that they have to cover and can't focus on him too much.

Posted by: scampbell1975 | July 10, 2008 8:50 AM

ESPN did a ranking like this before the 2006 season. The Skins ranked in the top 10 for every offensive position except QB, where they ranked in the top 15. If I recall correctly, the DB and LB faired pretty good on those rankings as well. How good were the 2006 Redskins?
Offseason rankings and predictions mean nothing to me. Especially with Zorn as a complete unknown (good or bad) commodity. You also cannot forecast things like injuries, breakout years, veterns declining, etc. If TO or Witten gets hurt this year, everyone's prediction about Dallas going to the Super Bowl will be finished. Same goes for Brady and the Pats.

I still love the fact that Playboy was the only publication to pick the Skins to win it all in 1991. Hmmm... I guess I'll have to pick up a copy of this year's NFL preview to see how we fare. You know, for the article...

Posted by: [cc] | July 10, 2008 9:38 AM

If Toyota has such an advantage this year, then why aren't T Stewart, M Waltrip, B Vickers, etc. not winning any races? And why would arguably the best driver (K Busch) almost get passed on the last lap last week to a Ford? If the caution hadn't come out, the Toyota would have been passed. This whole horsepower conspiracy is a crock.

Posted by: Sir Anonymous the Great | July 10, 2008 9:54 AM

Just repeating what I've heard and read. Doesn't mean it's true. Like anything else, it could be complete crap. I was just offering a plausible argument to the previous posters opinion.

Posted by: scampbell1975 | July 10, 2008 9:58 AM

phew, I thought my 'cut his nuts off' comment broke the blog.

It was a reference to Jesse Jackson's comments regarding Obama, but neither here nor there.

Smoke has had a good year, but some really bad luck. I don't buy the horsepower theory either, seems kind of fishy to me. I'm a Nascar fan, and I've never heard that prior to today.

I have heard it all year as well from the crying Jeff Gordon fans. I hate that Toyota has entered this great American sport as well, but I know that they will do whatever is necessary to succeed at this level. Gibbs was just smart enough to jump on board with them. For the Chevy guys to imply that they are "cheating" is ridiculous.

Posted by: SAtG | July 10, 2008 10:14 AM

I don't have anything I can add on the NASCAR discussion but I do have a qork-related question for all.

I have to interview a candidate for the role that I have been acting in (sucessfully) for the last couple of months. It seems at this time I won't even be given an interview for the position, and the guy I'm meeting today is plainly exaggerating on his resume (I know a lot of people where he worked for many years and back-channeled them on his 'claims').

So, do I:

$. Play the good corporate guy and give him a fair interview and a chance to get the job, or,
6. blow him up in the first 2 minutes?

It's all the same to me, either way, but Cindy if the WaPo has need of an overpaid and underworking strategic marketing guy, please let me know! Actually on second thoughts, the 'overpaid and underworking' part of my previous sentence is tautological, as I said I was in strategic marketing.

All suggestions welcomed.

Posted by: Redcoat | July 10, 2008 10:18 AM

they shouldn't have put you on the interview team if they didn't want you to probe into the claims made on his resume. Instead of just "blowing him up" in the first two minutes, I'd make it as uncomfortable as possible for him by asking pointed questions involving the activities that you know he did not do. At least that makes you look like you didn't have an axe to grind.

Posted by: Sir Anonymous the Great | July 10, 2008 10:22 AM

RC, myself, I'd go with #$. You never know how this could come back to you. Tis better to toe the company line, and be fair, than to give anyone any ammo against you.

my .02 anyway..

Posted by: Greg | July 10, 2008 10:25 AM

being "fair" is relative. Be fair to the candidate by giving him a chance to explain (using examples, situational analysis, etc.) his experience. But you should also be fair to your company by not blindly accepting claims that you know to be untrue. If he truly doesn't have the claimed experience, it will be obvious when he has to come up with examples and relevant situational behaviors.

Posted by: SAtG | July 10, 2008 10:29 AM

Blowing up is not nearly as fun as making them sweat it out. I mean without too much detail what do you mean by exaggerating the resume? Is he lying blatantly, or just taking more credit than he should? I don't think you should toe the line, because ultimately not hiring a guy who is lying is better for the company. I say, go with the quick jabs about the exaggerations and see how he reacts. Make him hot under the collar.

Posted by: Alex35332 | July 10, 2008 10:32 AM

Be careful though. I come from the Bruno/Barno school of thought and have little respect for cheaters, manipulators, "victims", etc. You may not want to consider my unpopular "extreme" opinions.

Posted by: Sir Anonymous the Great | July 10, 2008 10:33 AM

More importantly, RC, why are you not being granted an interview for a slot you've been filling competently? Typical corporate BS. I'd blow the guy up out of sheer bitterness, but I guess that's why I still get the coffee here.

Posted by: SMACK | July 10, 2008 10:35 AM

RC--

None of the above. When he gets the job, you take the one that he just left.

Why do you think "they" are favoring him over you, and who are "they" anyway? If this is rigged, there's no point in taking a stand that is contrary to what "they" want.

My motto at work was "when they want to hear my opinion, they'll tell me what it is." Unfortunately, I adopted this motto too late to do much good and I never really could live by it anyway.

Posted by: talent evaluator | July 10, 2008 10:38 AM

Posted by: Anonymous | July 10, 2008 10:38 AM

Ya, that too is weird BS to me. Did you want the job RC?

Posted by: Alex35332 | July 10, 2008 10:39 AM

I think you have to take into account how bad the exaggerations are. In an interview, you're selling yourself. You emphasize the positives in you and downplay (or outright ignore) the negatives. If he's bending the truth or straight lying on his resume, he needs to be called out on it now. If he's just puffing, I'd let it go.

The bottom line is can he do the job effectively and is he the best man for the job. If you can answer that in the affirmative AND feel like you can trust the guy, I'd give him a shot.

Posted by: dlhaze | July 10, 2008 11:37 AM

I think he's actually worse than Strahan. Strahan just wanted out of training camp. Favre wanted out of everything except the games on Sunday. What he said at his press conference was, "I just don't think I can give anything else, aside from the three hours on Sundays, and in football you can't do that. It's a total commitment, and up to this point I have been totally committed....As I looked at this upcoming season, I said, I probably could get myself prepared to play. That really didn't have that much of a bearing on my decision. It's tough on everybody. But it was more the in-season strain."

RC, I think you have to ask fair but relevant questions and let him illustrate his strengths but maybe more importantly his weaknesses. Let him show what he knows but also make him show what he does not. is the depth of his knowledge worth the time and energy it will take to bring the rest of his game up to par? If he's straight up lying, you should be able to make him step on his own dick.

Posted by: scampbell1975 | July 10, 2008 12:16 PM

RC - has anyone asked what might be an obvious question...why in the SJK are they asking YOU to interview someone for a job that you are currently filling - being close to the Talent Evaluator modus operandi at work, I would step up to the plate and do the best I could when I'm asked to interview -

To answer your question - distilling what other people have said - Ask tough questions that will expose any and all weakensses in his experience, regardless if it's puffed up or not - it's not fair to your company to hire someone who can't do the job

As a manager, I encourage everyone who works with me to share their thoughts regarding what's going on. My director overheard a spirited discussion one day and asked me why I let people argue with me. - I told him that that was the way I found out what was going on, and he still didn't agree - my point being, if only the working world was just as picture perfect as SATG made it out to be, it would be just swell.

Of course, maybe if you are you just having a discussion with yourself, you can say whatever the heck you want.

Ya, that too is weird BS to me. Did you want the job RC?

Posted by: Alex35332 | July 10, 2008 10:39 AM

Thankyou all for your input. I'll be meeting with the guy in while and I'll let you know how it goes, maybe.

To answer the above question, all the management in the teams I deal are all puzzled as to why they're being asked to meet the guy, quote-unquote "but you're already doing this role and it's working, isn't it?".

We do have an 'SVP' who doesn;t like me because I embarrassed him in a meeting by explaining carefully how a particular statement he made was not fact-based in any way and was actually 180 degrees inaccurate. He's probably at back of this because in the absence of my former boss, I notionally report to him (although he never speaks to me).

The candidate concerned is exaggerating some key claims in his resume that underpin his suitability for the role. I spent an hour talking with a good friend who is a recent former colleague of his and he has validated all that I had heard separately.

Irregardless (sorry cload) of all this, I've decided to give the guy a chance (my friend says he's a good guy but "VERY full of himself") but I'll ask questions that he will need to answer well to prove that he can back up what he's claiming even if it wasn't him that did those things before. If he can do that he'll prove at least that he can glom knowledge from other people and reuse it correctly in context.

I don't have the luxury of 'walking away' on this one, although my CV has some of those in the past. Age has somewhat dimmed my fiery streak and replaced it instead with Macchiavellian revenge-based plotting ALWAYS 'served cold'.

Thanks all!

Btw isn't that the best example of special treatment of Farve. No the packers were not one of 2 superbowl teams that year, which usually qualifies past teams for staying in a Madden series. But they leave him in anyway. Yet I don't think you can find a team with Dan Mareno on it in the great teams.

I have'nt bought a new Madden game in a while, but it always ticked me off that the past great teams were all fouled up in terms of players numbers. I can understand that they don't want to pay royalties to former players and not use their names, but to have the starting qb on the 82 skins (Thiesmann) have the number 6, and the starting RB (Riggins) have no. 22 or whatever, etc, was just awful. At least do some research and get the numbers right.....Everyone knows if you are playing the 84 Dolphins, the QB should be no. 13, not whatever made up number they use. Doesn't even really feel like you are playing the guys you remember at all. Don't get me started on their player rankings/stats/scores/whatever.....Does anyone know if they have fixed this since Madden 2005?

I don't know about on 08 or the PS3/xbox360 games but the 2007 did not have the right names and stuff either. Than again, I stoped playing with HOF teams once they stoped putting them in the classic stadiums. I loved taking the 91 skins as my team because they played in RFK. Its not right to play as the Oilers in Tenn., the original Texans in K.C. Or the LA Rams in Stl.

Posted by: Alex35332 | July 10, 2008 2:02 PM

Has anyone posted espn's top 10 list of TE units in the league? It's an insider article, and clearly I'm too cheap to pay for espn insider access, though I'd like to see where the skins rank on that.

I hope if registration ever returns, I can maintain my name. I have grown quite fond of it.

Unfortunately, having arrived after this highly touted registration went away, I have no way of knowing the logistics of it.

Darn...and I thought it was King Anonymous the Greatest. We definately need the return of the ever famous registration. Split personalities are too confusing.

No problem. It was basically a land rush, but I don't think many people will try to beat you to this particular stake.

Even if they do, there were lots of ways to foil the system and we still had multiple Nate in the PDX's.
