Monthly Microsoft Patch Release Won't Include Word Fix

Microsoft Corp. said yesterday that its monthly patch release next Tuesday will include at least six software updates to plug security holes in its Windows operating system and other software.

Missing from the company's notice, however, is any mention of a software update to fix a dangerous flaw in Microsoft Word that criminals are actively exploiting to break into Windows PCs.

Five of the updates on the list for next week address vulnerabilities in Windows, while a sixth patch would fix a problem with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 that the company has acknowledged also is being exploited in the wild.

Microsoft said this month's release will include a large number of non-security, high-priority updates, but it wasn't more specific on any of those. Check back with Security Fix on Tuesday afternoon for the lowdown.

I use Internet Explorer for a few specific tasks where it is required and have done so recently. Microsoft just sent me an update for it, Explorer 7. What is the word on this update? Is it new, or new only to me? And is it worse or better than what I have, which is--I don't know, and can't seem to find out through Properties! Help therefore needed on two counts for this Explorer-phobe. Thanks in advance.

Internet explorer 7 is just a new version to compete with firefox. It has some new features and is better with security. Right now you are most likly using Internet Explorer 6

I don't know where Microsoft's information and yours diverge; but, I went out to the update site today and got a patch for KB925876 (Terminal Services 6.0) which hangs up on installation and aanother patch to make XP work with what is coming with Vista.

Your earlier blog post said 5+ patches, should I figure, they are just late putting them up?
