Clinton Camp's Brown-Nosing Marathoner
Talk about going the extra mile for your boss (or just plain brown nosing her).
Phil Singer, a veteran congressional aide who is now spokesman for Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign, is raising money for the upcoming Marine Corps Marathon that he plans to run for the worthy cause of - get this - Hillary Clinton for President.
In the previous two marathons he ran, back when he worked for the senior senator from New York, Chuck Schumer, and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Singer raised beaucoup bucks to fight Parkinson's disease, cancer and tuberous sclerosis. This time around, he's raising money to fight Barack Obama and John Edwards.
"Running a marathon is hard. So is running for president," Singer wrote in a recent email solicitation to friends. "That's why I'm dedicating my marathon effort to helping my boss - Hillary Clinton - raise money for her marathon effort to become the next President of the United States."
Kindly providing a link to a contribution page on Clinton's campaign Web site, Singer explained, "I'm hoping you'll help me do that by clicking here and giving $26.20 (think marathon!) to the Hillary Clinton campaign. What better way to help me run 26.2 miles :-) And in keeping with the theme of the marathon, I'm also hoping that you'll forward this email to 26.2 of your friends and urge them to give to our campaign."
Rest assured, a good percentage of Singer's 26.2 friends are giving him grief about his uncanny ability to suck up to the boss. He told us one of his colleagues wrote back saying, "Running a marathon is hard but not as hard as the amount of [ribbing] you're going to get for sending out that email!"
For historical context, Singer, 32, crossed the finish line of the 2003 New York City Marathon with Sean "P. Diddy" Combs. (Singer beat Combs across the line, finishing in 4 hours, 5 minutes; He ran last year's Marine Corps Marathon in 3 hours, 37 minutes, but with no celebrity sightings.)
As for switching his marathon effort from helping cancer patients to helping Hillary, Singer quipped, "I guess you can say the Clinton campaign is literally running for change."

If he dresses in drag as Hillary, I will donate. Otherwise, no sale.

I guess he would have us think that Hillary is a charity case? I guess he feels this is an effort to make up for the Hsu's that support her while simultaneously smooching her broad, fat behind. Some people will do anything to impress a boss and in politics anything goes.

What would you expect from the NY HillBillies' campaign? The only thing as equally crass and vulgar and unworthy of presidential power as Hillary is George Bush and Rudy Guiliani. America--get rid of all of these phony, power-hungry, despicable politicians!
You do have other options and choices. Think.
America, awake!!

Like it or not, Hillary will be the next President. The one with the most money wins!

TM - You may very well be right, but how sad, sad, sad for our country. Money is certainly the promoter, if not the root, of all evil. And as we all know, all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men [and women] do nothing. Please do not just roll over and give up. That is exactly what they want you to do.

Preaching on education for social mobility is one of the things that America does especially well - both to its own nation and to others.
Without education in third world countries, all American can do it "carry them". With it, they can move their own mountains, and care for their own people.
Logic suggests, therefore, that if America cannot also make progress in using its own talent - including women - that America won't make progress either.
In women's empowerment, America is as stuck as those undeveloped nations are with their own children - stuck in poverty.
That the Marines are willing to help lead the charge up Capitol Hill - for Hillary - and to help America get "unstuck" is commendable, and as we all know, Marines are great at taking those hills.
With Republicans running for Commander in Chief, and Democrats running for President, it's admirable that the Marines can distinguish between the two, and not fall victim to the seduction that people who've never been in the military are more willing to give orders and tell them their business than those who haven't. McCain is apparently the only one to make that observation as yet. Is everyone still asleep?
What a great chance for our Marines to prove their stuff!

Interesting, Pat R., that you think that the Clintons and other Democrap baby boomer children of the 1960's who generally despise the military would be good for Marines to support. Military morale will decline significantly if Hillary is elected. It is not THE Marines who are charging up the hill in her support but one butt kissing insider looking out for his own, not the military's best interests.

Hey this is really strange. I read something that said that HRC is the one who threw coffee on a White House Marine Sentry. This was after the marine sentry told her he could not leave his station. How quickly we forget?

At least Clinton has someone so dedicated to her campaign. I would like to hear what Singer thinks of her campaign ideas and platforms; I have not heard her speak too much on the issue of poverty, so what would Singer say to that?

"Comments that include profanity or personal attacks or other inappropriate comments or material will be removed from the site." The use of the term brown-noser in the original document is offensive and vulgar. Is it not also inappropriate in discourse, and should the document not be removed from the site?

Im gonna have to say this guy is very dedicated to his cause but $26 is way too much for a guy to run.
Posted by: deak82 | September 6, 2007 10:55 PM
Well Phil Singer is trying to get to the top and isn't that what we all want to do? That is, in my mind, the goal in life. We all have to do what we have to do to achieve that goal and everything goes in that race to the finish, especially in politics. Personally I think that Barack Obama should win, but I praise Mr.Singer for trying to get to the finish in the marathon and the race to the top. Even though brown-nosing is just sucking up and kissing butt, we all have to some time. So get off of Mr.Singer he is just being smart to make up for not being able to please his boss in a better way.

I THINK, HILLARY CLINTON WILL BE A REALLY GREAT PRESIDENT BECAUSE I MEAN COME ON WHO DOESN'T WANT A WOMAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE? AND BEST OF ALL, SHE IS A CLINTON! AND DONT WE ALL LOVE THOSE CLINTONS! I DON'T BELIEVE HE IS TRYING TO MAKE HER OUT TO LOOK LIKE A CHARITY CASAE, I THINK THE MORE MONEY,THE MORE SUPPORT THE BETTER. GOOD LUCK HILLARY!

I believe the article 'Clinton Camp's Brown-Nosing Marathoner' is not really worthy of the Washington Post. I can see the standards slip sliding away.
Posted by: Mike D | September 7, 2007 10:00 AM
I always wonder about the value of an article that has a title that includes a slang, vulgar expression like "... "Brown-Nosing". Did the author have no other phrase or description for the behavior of the camaign officials. Did Ms. Akers actually think about the literal, vulgar meaning of the juvenile phrase?
Readers deserve more respect than this.

Did bill and hillary pay to be on oprah and david letterman because they seem to want to give people the impression they are good folk its politics and they are slippery folk. POWER corrupts and do we need more homemade sleeze in the white house did Bill promise Hill he would behave if he didn't sleep with an intern in their bed?

As far as Hilliary's campaign goes shes not exactly in trouble fiscally. So why not run for a cause that is a little more weight in the world. Lets just hope she realizes how dedicated the people working for her are and show the utmost appreciation for them.

This isn't about the present, it's about the future.
I'd rather see any other Dem win over Hillary. She's a very scary candidate. We need another Clinton in office like we need another Bush. End the Bush-Clinton-Bush reign while we/you can.
And I'm a registered Republican!
Posted by: WDC | September 7, 2007 4:39 PM
Yes, we need another Clinton in the White House: a person who is intelligent and a pragmatic problem solver for a change! This country was in better shape in every sense when Hillary's husband was in the White House. It's only fat cat Republicans who unjustly have gained so much during the Bush administration that are scared witless by Hillary because they know their days of greedy bounty at the rest of our expense are nearly over. The most appropriate thing for Fred Thompson to run for is a part in a re-run of "The Night of the Living Dead." What a lethargic dufus! Just what we need in the presidency,
another right wing wacko with a gunslinger's mentality. The best candidate out there is Hillary Clinton. I agree that terms such as "brown nosing" have no place, even in a slanted editorial piece, but since Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter, I guess any kind of juvenile terminology is okay.

"This country was in better shape in every sense when Hillary's husband was in the White House."
Wow, and people say Republicans see things with rosy glasses.
USS Cole, 1993 WTC Bombing, less funding of the DoD, and we'll leave out the personal stuff since everyone carries baggage, etc.
And what has Hillary done in the Senate? First, she's not even from NY. That's an insult to NYers (I'm a former one, so I can say that)! She wasn't even that much of a First Lady -- I forget what she did beside plan her run for Senate and try to clear her name from that Whitewater stuff. Oh, she wrote a book or two on raising kids while her kid went to private school and has lived a very privileged life since.
Sorry, I don't trust her or her motives.
We're all entitled to our opinions, thankfully.

One more thing...
Is Clinton's candidacy blocking 'Path to 9/11'?

re: President Hillary Clinton and "...the USS Cole, the 1993 WTC bombings..."
Interesting that you should mention those!
Even though the GHW Bush administration knew about AQ and Osama Bin Laden in 1993, they protected their Saudi oil interests by keeping that info from the new adminstration.
A few weeks in Clinton's first term, the WTC was hit and 6 people died.
That's how Clinton was introduced to AQ.
For the next eight years, under Clinton's watch we were never attacked on US soil again.
A week or two before the 2000 selection between GW Bush and Gore, the USS Cole was hit by what was America's rude introduction to a suicide bomber. One of my friends died in that bombing.
According to the 9/11 Commission Report, the Clinton administration warned every senior member of the new Bush administration that the only enemey they would be dealing with in the next four years was Osama Bin Laden.
How did the new Bush administration take to this warning?
To show their disagreement, they demoted the nation's counterterrorism expert on AQ, and started plans, lead by Dick Cheney, to invade Iraq!
Bush got a memo on Aug. 6, 2001, that Osama Bin Laden wanted to attack America, by running big planes into big buildings.
September 11, 2001 was the result of Bush/Cheney taking their eyes off of Osama Bin Laden, despite being warned at the highest levels by the Clinton administration.
Has Bush brought to justice yet the man accused of bombing the USS Cole?
Has Bush brought to justice yet the man accused of coming up with the successful plan to run big planes into big buildings on American soil, causing the death of 3000 Americans this time around?
Yeah, I'd say the Republicans look at Bush through rose-colored glasses.

The complaints that the term "brown nosing" is vulgar and offensive is rather amusing considering the language used by the ultra liberal left when commenting on conservatives, people who identify themselves as Christians, or the current administration. Where are the holier than thou comments then?
Posted by: Lilycat1 | September 12, 2007 11:01 AM
I don't think of this as charity, I think of it as a way for Phil Singer to help Hilary Clinton win. Hilary Clinton has a very good chance but it is very hard when there are other candidate like Barack Obama and John Edwards. I personally want to see Hilary Clinton win the elections. However it does seem as if Phil Singer is just doing it to suck up to Hilary Clinton.
