A Few Republicans Still Want Cheney At Their Side

They seem to be few and far between, but there are Republican candidates for Congress out there who aren't afraid to have Vice President Dick Cheney campaign for him. (There are a total of three by our count.)

After stumping for Rep. Ralph Hall in Texas earlier this week, Cheney is scheduled to be in Kansas tomorrow to help raise cash for GOP state Sen. Nick Jordan, who's running to unseat Democratic incumbent Rep. Dennis Moore.

Until now, Cheney had headlined just one fundraiser for an incumbent House Republican: Rep. Sam Graves (Mo.), one of the more vulnerable House GOP members facing re-election. Jordan, we're told, is the first GOP challenger to solicit Cheney's campaign help.

It doesn't exactly promise to be "hunting with Dick" fundraiser or anything else along the lines of extreme danger sporting, but attendees can at least get shot - with a camera that is. The morning event for Jordan will cost $200 just to get in the door, $2,300 for a photo with the vice president and $5,000 for a photo and "recognition" at the reception.

do these politicians have a death wish? anybody that wants dick ``I cant shoot or talk straight'' cheney by his side better keep an eye on the guys trigger finger. I hope every repuke politician feels the same way about cheney and want him to help their campaign. That would guarantee their defeat unless Karl Rove can come up with a way to steal another election like he did in 2000

What the heck does "Recognition" mean? Do we get a raised eye brow from the old authoritarian? Or possibly a plastic medal of freedom. How much would a signed copy of the latest NIE cost?

Posted by: Rudini | December 6, 2007 4:29 AM

Obviously there are even some conservative Republicans who support suicide. In these case it will be death by slow torture

Posted by: Elwan Lobo-Pires | December 6, 2007 6:49 AM

Recognition? Maybe one of his Senate floor greetings, representing the highest of standards in polite discourse. I believe the quote was "F*** you." If I were a hard-core Texas-style Republican, I'm sure that would excite me. I'd want it caught on video, for my grandkids!

Dick Cheney is the man.

I love Dick Cheney and if I was a politican

I love Dick Cheney but what I love more is the fact he drives the dems crazy. You all write your petty little articles and all your hate messages...do you really think he cares what you pompous haters think or say?

Andrew: actually the quote was "go f*** yourself". A real class act, that guy.

However today the White House is saying the President was told much more.

After taking a reporters' question earlier today about exactly what the President was told, White House press secretary Dana Perino provided a response to reporters Wednesday night.

Perino stated Bush had been told in August that Iran suspended it's covert nuclear weapons program.

"In August, DNI Director McConnell advised President Bush that the intelligence community would not be able to meet a congressionally imposed deadline requiring a National Intelligence Estimate on Iran because new information had been obtained just as they were about to finalize the report," Perino wrote in an emailed response.

"He said that if the new information turns out to be true, what we thought we knew for sure is right. Iran does in fact have a covert nuclear weapons program, but it may be suspended," Perino's email said.

Perino also said McConnell told the President the new information might cause the intelligence community to change its assessment of Iran's covert nuclear program.

The latest National Intelligence Estimate -- declassified excerpts of which were released on Monday -- found that Iran actually shelved it's nuclear weapons program in 2003.

Despite the fact that Bush was told in August that U.S. intelligence agencies believed Iran's nuclear weapons program had been halted, the Bush administration continued to raise the rhetoric against Iran, calling for a third round of United Nations sanctions.

The President even warned publicly in October about a World War III if Iran didn't cease their weapons program.

"I've told people that if you're interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them (Iran) from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon," Bush said in October

SO PLEASE CAN ANYONE IN THE MEDIA TELL US AMERICANS WHY THEY ARE STILL RUNNING AMERICA??? AGAIN AND AGAIN THEY ARE CAUGHT LIEING TO THE WORLD AND AMERICANS, BUT THEY STILL ARE NOT IMPEACH. WHY??

Posted by: DAVID A BELANGER | December 6, 2007 9:54 AM

Why would someone pay for 'recognition'? Maybe Cheyney will say a little about them, but everyone will forget, so the money is being wasted. These are pretty good fundraising activities, though, charging $200 dollars to walk in the door???!!! This ensures only the very rich can enter, and then waste another $5000 on regonition.

"I love Dick Cheney but what I love more is the fact he drives the dems crazy. You all write your petty little articles and all your hate messages...do you really think he cares what you pompous haters think or say?"......
Sque, you are correct.
Dick Cheney does not care what Americans think or say.

Mendacity is a way of life for authoritarian republicans like Bush/Cheney.
Even when they are caught in a lie they continue to do so. To do otherwise would be seen as a weakness by their suppoters.

Posted by: gpops | December 6, 2007 10:44 AM

David A Belanger, the report apparently says that Iran "suspended" their nuclear arms program. They are not stopping their uranium enrichment program. Suspension does not mean they destroyed the facilities and equipment that were put in place thus far. As soon as they have enough fissionable product they can end the suspension and just pick up where they left off. Probably as soon as we elect a Dem and the pressure is off. Was Bill Clinton more successful with the North Koreans or was Bush? If Clinton is the example of international political pressure application what will we get with the next Dem? I believe we will get an Iran armed with nuclear weapons under the control of Islamic fundamentalist who believe they will get their 72 virgins if they die in World War III. So if the Dems win we must rely on the Israelis to deal with it which can also take us down the road to WW III if nukes are lit up. I'm an atheist, but everything looks like Armegeddon is coming.

Dick Chaney, Leaves on track as he is an Oregon fish killer, 77,000 salmon and Chinook, destroyer of environments, bed buddies with Diebold voting machines, crusader of evil over good and brain of Bush, destroyer of government records, play mate of oil companies , shooter of friends and dictator of the other US government rule, is a fine example of Republican love and wealth. I think more republican canidates need the Chaney push so they to can be labeled successful.

Yes !!! by all means - Cheney's the man !!! I love Cheney !!! Cheney is Awsome !!!! and then a writer tells us what Bush and Cheney have accomplished and how bad it will be when a Dem is elected !!! By all means folks "ALL HALE THE GOOD KING GEORGE AND HIS CHENEY" !!!! Take a look at the good they have done for us !!!! 1. Why the war of course !! its something to be proud of is it not !!!! oh they just told a few fibs, stretched the facts a bit, but that's ok, they are our conservatives, our christian leaders, who have as their counselor "a higher power-GOD" !!! In his name they conducted a war to (as it turns out) gain control of "OIL" for our interests here in the USA, (Haliburton, the likes of Blackwater, Bectal, many many other good companies who have gotten filthy rich) OOOOOPS !!! NO WEAPONS OF MASS DISTRUCTION !!!! Thats ok cause the good king and his cheney have left us in a "POWERFUL" position of influence and great location in the middle east, for control of our interests "OIL" (ask the OIL TYCOONS who met secretly with cheney about "OUR INTERESTS") a huge embassy building, 100,000's of dead Iraqi's, several Millions of displaced Iraqi's, Billions of unaccounted for dollars, free wheeling Mercenairies with "IMMUNITY FROM PROSECUTION" (W/multiple murders to their credits) Billions of dollars ot distruction at the US tax payers expense to repair/replace, so far at a (barrowed from China) overall cost of about 1 trillion dollars for our sons, grandsons, and greatgrandsons to pay for, such a miriad of problems and loss of respect, trust, and goodwill from around the world for the good ole democratic U S of A, nearly trippled cost of gas from the good king and his cheney's war, yes and then theres the small matter of our dollar losing value on nearly every market in the world. (WHEW !!!! I GOTTA CATCH MY BREATH!!!! THERES SO MUCH TO WRITE, AND SO MANY REASONS TO LOVE THE GOOD KING AND HIS CHENEY) (OK !!!! I'VE GOT MY WIND BACK !!!) yes !! now where were we ???? Oh yes !!! We just finished about losing about 30% of the dollar value thanks to the "GOOD KING AND HIS CHENEY" Well since we are on a subject close to home, that brings up more good reasons to respect and love these two !!! The small matter of our constitution, well as the good king is said to have said, "ITS JUST A G--D--- PIECE OF PAPER" and he proceded (UNDER THE GUIDENCE OF HIS CHENEY AND LAWYER COHORTS) to ignore, use creative interpretations, and just plain tramp all over it, in the process of, taking away the rights of Habeaus Corpus, ignore every request of congress, sidestep congress, ignore rullings of the Supreme Court, bring the Justice department in line with his cheneys mindset, they were even able to justify torture, hide prisoners off in other countries, use tax payers money to pay off his war "coalition", use the telephone and net providers, to do surveilance illegally on US citizens. Oh man !!! I just cannot write any more of this down !!! There's so many more reasons to love these guys !!! Forgive me please !!! I'll have to continue this list at another time, its just too taxing to go into all these reasons to love these guys !!! OH!!! isn't it painful to be a liberal having to right all these reasons for love down. OH !!! NO !!! DID YOU JUST CALL ME A LEFTIST !!! UNPATRIOTIC !! FOR NOT SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS AND WHAT OUR GOOD KING BUSH AND HIS CHENEY HAVE DONE FOR US ????? I'M LEFT SPEECHLESS !!! HOW COULD YOU LABEL ME SUCH !!! I guess the sheep following the "GOOD KING AND HIS CHENEY" cannot understand why I'm not feeling the same love they do for those two !!!! WHATS NOT TO LOVE THEY'RE SAYING !!!!!!!!

"As Sun Tzu said, 'Keep your friends close and your enemies closer'"

Actually I'm not sure Master Sun said that, though obviously someone (famous?) did.

"Dick Chaney, [bad, wicked, naughty, evil puppy-eating Sith Lord]...is a fine example of Republican love and wealth. I think more republican canidates[sic] need the Chaney push so they to[sic] can be labeled successful."

No, you're thinking of Lon Chaney. Dick spells his surname with two "e"s.

"Mr. Cheney is a potty mouth."

Maybe he'd make a good leftist, then!

P.S. I hope Dhoover survived that apoplectic rant....

Bush and Cheney should go see the Wizzard for a heart and a brain.

Posted by: Ben Matheny | December 7, 2007 2:38 PM

Awe now Frank, I was fully conscious (thanks for your concern) and my utterances in a declamatory manner were quite apropos, don't you think ??? (given the subject matter that is) Now please do expound on the positive aspects of "GOOD KING GEORGE AND HIS CHENEY" for us, could you start on the subject of torture? (since it came to light today that some tapes were destroyed, to possibly save "SOMEONE" from possible prosecution) I and most of the world find it distastful to say the least, that we in the year 2007 are even having to deal with this medieval practice !!!! We're all ears !!!! List the good things about all these issues that have reared their ugly heads because of these two, issues (like habeaus corpus thats been a standard to look to since the 1200's) that democratic nations of the world had long since moved beyond. Also list the positive effects on our world today from "THE GOOD KING GEORGE's" WAR !!! I'D SURE HATE TO BE ONE OF THE "PALLBEARERS" for their "LEGACY" ah !!!! Not to worry, you and I will be long gone, for a long time before the USA will be able to bury their "LEGACY" (more like thorns in the side, than a legacy)

Posted by: dhoover | December 7, 2007 6:03 PM

nbdog, you forgot about the election they stole in 2004. Dick needs to start his retirement... for the good of the country.
