McCain's Lobbyist Problem Presents Fundraising Tool
Borrowing a page from Hillary Rodham Clinton's playbook, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is using his lobbyist controversy to raise money.
Just as the Clinton campaign used last summer's cleavage controversy to rally empathetic supporters to dig in their pockets, the McCain camp is doing the same in its attack against the New York Times, which was first to publish this week's explosive story about McCain's close ties to lobbyist Vicki Iseman.
In an email letter to supporters Thursday, McCain campaign manager Rick Davis wrote:
"Well, here we go. We could expect attacks were coming; as soon as John McCain appeared to be locking up the Republican nomination, the liberal establishment and their allies at the New York Times have gone on the attack. Today's front-page New York Times story is particularly disgusting - an un-sourced hit-and-run smear campaign designed to distract from the issues at stake in this election....We will not allow their scurrilous attack against a great American hero to stand."
The tone of the email sure stands in stark contrast to the happy feelings of last month when the New York Times endorsed McCain for president. In its attack on the Times, the email quotes conservative voice of reason, Sean Hannity, who said the Times story was "so full of innuendo and so lacking of fact, and so involved in smear, I came to the conclusion that the goal here was to bring up a 20-year-old scandal." And it quotes McCain's attorney, Bob Bennett, who called the story "a real hit job."
"Even pundit Alan Colmes -- not known for his conservative leanings -- concludes 'this is a non-story,'" Davis wrote.
Davis railed against the Times as a "newspaper that gave MoveOn.org a sweetheart deal to run advertisements attacking General Petraeus." And he warned supporters to "get ready for more of the Democrats' attacks over the coming months as the Democrats pick their nominee."
The bottom line, Davis wrote, "We need your help to counteract the liberal establishment and fight back against the New York Times by making an immediate contribution today."
That line of the email conveniently provides a link to a page on McCain's campaign web site where one can donate generously to support the Arizona Republican's presidential quest.
Compounding the "lobbyist problem" for McCain was word from the Federal Election Commission today indicating the senator may not be able to withdraw from the presidential public financing system, which would severely restrict his campaign's spending.
"We'll never match the reach of a front-page New York Times article, but with your immediate help today, we'll be able to respond and defend our nominee from the liberal attack machine," Davis concluded.

The liberal attack machine... hilarious! One thing I have to give "conservatives" much credit for - they have absolutely mastered the tactic of accusing their opponents of doing what in reality they themselves are doing, in order to blunt any valid complaints.

Anyone else tired of this sensationalist element which has eclipsed the real purpose of the elections?
Enough is enough. It is time to DEMAND that the candidates get specific on how they would grapple with the long-term national security problems. The media will follow suit.
One bipartisan organization in DC, chaired by foreign policy experts from both sides of the aisle, has made this its mission. The group, PSA (www.psaonline.org), has posed five critical foreign policy questions they want all the candidates to answer. These aren't hot-button issues likely to enflame partisan passions - issues like immigration or the Iraq War, where the partisan battle lines are already irrevocably drawn.
These are issues were we stand a chance of building a strong, lasting bipartisan base of support--issues of foreign aid, energy security, and human rights....
Go to secureamericachallenge.org to learn more about the initiative. Let's turn the election from an exercise in partisan point- scoring to a constructive and substantive debate!!

The similarity between Sen Clinton's "cleavage story" and Sen McCain's current situation start and end with their being newspaper stories.
If she retains the capacity, Ms Akers ought to be ashamed of herself for drawing the comparison.

So...conservatives are now rallying behind McCain and feeling sympathy for him....people are blogging that they will donate to his campaign because poor McCain has been sidelined by "liberals"?
People are questioning the timing of the release of this article, everyone is blaming the media.
Am I the only one who suspects the masters of spin (republicans) might be behind this?

The public release of this information at this specific time is intended to sway undecideds and disgruntled McCain voters in Texas and Ohio to cross over and vote for Clinton to ensure her nomination. Texas and Ohio are crossover states. Traditional Republicans assume McCain would win over Hillary during the general election campaign. They also know polls indicate McCain might not beat Obama. They are being manipulated to vote for Hillary, and expecting to vote McCain in the general. But I suggest there are certain republican operators behind the curtain who are attempting to control this election and really do want Hillary to be the next President. Stay with me here...George Bush 41 is a member of the Carlyle Group. So is Bill Clinton, along with several of his closest friends. They expected Hillary would be the sure thing nominee, so they have had to switch up the game plan somewhat. With Hillary as President, Bill and GB41 are in line to profit billions from the Carlyle Group. The same Carlyle Group standing ready in the wings to manage the building of the Bush approved NAFTA corridor from Mexico to Canada, with the construction performed by Saudi based Halliburton. After all, Cheney's company will need something to do once we finish off Iraq. So we will have Hillary approving Carlyle Group or some connected private entity to insert a Bush invented privately owned and operated four football fields wide toll booth gash through the middle of our country, beginning with the beautiful wide open ranges of Texas. Note that the Carlyle Group also includes members of the Saudi royal family. Just imagine the possibilities. This informatiion is public record, but America is asleep at the wheel. If Hillary is elected you can be sure Bill will be invited to continue his ride on that Carlyle Group gravy train, with GB 41 & 43 as his travel companions, along with the top dogs from Bill's former administration. Our country will be slashed up the middle by a non-regulated,non-taxable, privately built, owned, and operated super highway, and the Bush and Clinton families will be making bubbly toasts to NAFTA along with the Sauds and singing "what a friend we have in our pocket". They don't care about America. They have given up. They are not Democrats or Republicans. They care about themselves and we are all being used. Wake up. Carlyle Group and related activities are why Hillary and Bill want this election so desperately. HRC will do or say anything to win this election so WJC can stay in good with the Carlyle Group by his having a direct connection to POTUS. At her core, I am sure there is some light and sincerity and twisted notion that we will all be lifted up as Carlyle Group member billions add up, but tne trickle down theory doesn't work when the wealth is concentrated in such few hands. Slave wages paid by Halliburton to desparate workers do not count. When I say wealth, I mean billions. Every millionaire out there who assumed you were part of the uber rich everyone keeps targeting for tax money, please sit down and relax. And call me! No, just kidding. But know that your millions you worked so hard for will not be worth squat when our country is destroyed by these selfish accumulating misguided Bushbots. The information is out there if the good people of the USA would pay attention and not be distracted by the ridiculous pretend "news" which is taking attention away from any real story. At the very least, really think about the implications of a privately owned and operated infrastructure. Imagine a worst case scenario. Would all of our citizens have equal access during a disaster or would those who are connected in some way to the owners have first priority. Would there be a system to rank which of our citizens are most valuable, and which more disposable? Think "Titanic" on an exponentially larger scale. Be an American and vote for Obama or McCain, but not Hillary Rod'em Clinton.

I'm totally ambivilent to this recent news. I'm an Obama fan, but even to me this looks like typical politics. Here is all I have to add: McCain's reputation is The Maverick. The lobbiest's name is Iseman (pronouced Iceman). Any cable news anchor who has seen Top Gun needs to pick this up and create a great headline. This is the only real connection between the two that is worth reporting.

Liberal media? More likely the snake-handeling, tent-revivalist, flat-earth, "christian" conservatives planting stories.
They're mad because they're quickly becoming irrelevant, so they do what they do best: attack & blame others, being the good "christians" they are.
It'll be nice when their ilk fall back into obscurity where they belong.

I was in New York two weekends ago, and was a bit surprised to see a top-fold front page article highlighting Barack Obama's drug use in college.
The headline implied that frequent drug use shaped Obama's personality, whereas every eyewitness quoted in the article clearly stated that Obama's drug use in college was actually much lighter than average, or at least substantially less than their own.
So give the Times credit for non-partisanship in NOT timing their screaming-headline non-stories out of sensitivity to the presidential front-runners.

He cheated on Carol the "wife of his youth" and then married Cindy a rich man's daugther.
He attends a Baptist church but has not been baptised because he does not want to do it (be baptised) during the residential elections.
If at 71 salvation is less important than becoming President, he is a fool and unfit to be President.
Let him pray that God supply his needs or manage his campaign like Huckabee.
If McCain is righteous with regard to this lobbyist controversy God will supply his needs. If he is not, let him quit because he must run out of cash. It will prove that having 59 lobbyists in his campaign team cannot deceive the true christians.
Huckabee would be a better GOP Convervative Nominee and US President.

Senator McCain's ties to the lobbyists and the special interest groups are well-known 'secret' in Washington. The Senator has never been backward in taking the generous perks offered by lobbyists' clients--the vacations, private travel, campaign donations, gala fund raisers (viz McCain's support for Paxson which netted the Senator private plane travel and a lucrative Palm Beach fundraiser, which the Senator attended and (surprise surprise) so did Paxson as it was at Ms. Iseman's boss' lavish home!) McCain shouts loudly against special interest groups but then quietly votes in favor of the bill he has just decried--behaviour so common to his history in the Senate that it is almost a Washington insiders' joke.

Truth or Consequences
It is becoming more apparent each day that the Democratic Party will be guiding the course of American politics for the next four to eight years depending upon its degree of success. As this reality looms closer, the Republican Party, in order to exert any influence upon the hearts and minds of the American people, will undoubtedly employ any means necessary to acquire control of the media. A good illustration of this type of influence was exhibited during the Presidential Election of 2004. It is now a matter of historical record that the Karl Rove propaganda machine, funded by T. Boone Pickens, launched a campaign of lies to disparage the military record of John Kerry. The subsequent character assassination produced a new colloquialism in the American lexicon labeled, "swift boating." The American people have since expressed disappointment, if not outrage, for the implementation of this deceitful practice.
Let's imagine the following scenario: Four prominent journalists employed by a major newspaper known for its support for liberal policies are approached by the Karl Rove propaganda locomotive which is now an independent contract apparatus funded by the same private interests which own the Republican Party. Let's say these four journalists are enticed into planting a vague, if not fictitious, story in their newspaper which, hypothetically, involved sexual improprieties on the part of a leading conservative Presidential candidate. Let's say, in return, these writers are offered a prominent place in either the Rove Truth Grinder or, perhaps, an upper echelon position with a competing enterprise such as the Rupert Murdoch Fact Assassins, Inc. To sweeten the deal, they are offered surreptitious cash incentives and an open window into the Republican underground during the next administration.
The benefits from the successful execution of this plot would be the following: First and foremost, the credibility of the hypothetical newspaper which, up until this point, has served as the gold standard in journalism would be severely compromised. Second, the subsequent loss of readership and advertising dollars would deplete the dollar value of the entire enterprise. The few journalists who still respect the First Amendment would seek out new venues for its protection and preservation, perhaps on the internet (politico.com, huffingtonpost.com, etc.). The skeletal remains of The Newspaper, Inc. would ultimately be sold and fall into the hands of the highest bidder, perhaps the Murdoch group. Thus, silencing a prominent liberal voice forever. This drama may seem far-fetched however, this is America, where everything is for sale, including the truth.
The American people are tired of and disgusted with negative campaigning. The latest attacks on John McCain have done nothing but increase support for the Republican Party, which has been noticeably weak of late. Karl Rove "won" the Presidential campaign for George Bush in 2004 by spreading a blanket of lies, deceit, and fear over the entire American heartland, one county at a time. He will employ similar techniques to discredit and disqualify key players in the Democratic Party one by one, even if it requires falsely attacking members of his own party and attributing blame to the "liberals." Rove is a master of deceit, the same deceit which coats the underbelly of all Republican politics. It has no limits.

Since John McCain is beginning sweat bullets over the prospect of defending
his stance on both the wars in Iraq and
in Afghanistan, I suggest that he ramp up his defense strategy, because it's clear
his legacy will come back to bite him
where the sun don't shine in November.
I pary that both Obama or Clinton will
wear the Old Man down. Also, since
he's already questioning his capacity,
if elected, to lead our nation, that
puts one heck of a smile on my face,
and also on those of my fellow democrats.

Interesting how so many naive Americans
will see the word "Drug Use", particularly
when utilized in the context of describing a Democratic presidential candidate's character. To all the ignorant Republicans
out there who feel that President George W. Bush and Dick are the "Greatest Thing
since Slice Bread", keep in mind that both
George and his formerly Democratic wife,
Laura, are either former addicts or their
still using. In George's case, I question his sobriety, and his mental stability as
a result of being a dry drunk. As for Laura, please, she's a designated Prescription pill-popper. Interesting how Jenna and Barbara's misadventures have been hidden for the last eight years.

To Aldous: You're a sick puppy as far as your Obama description goes. Also, even
if Obama's mother was a lesbian, what's your problem? I know several people whose
parents were married, then divorced, because of pressures due to sexual orientation, mostly on the wife's side.
The children in most of the cases have
grown up emotionally stronger as a result,
and have children of their own. In one
case the mother, who's also a grandmother
is someone who I would trust implicitely.
Part of the erosion of "Moral Values" within our nation are due to a tremendous amount of ignorance from too many individuals such as you.

I continue to be unimpressed by Left's consistent themes:
Republicans are flat earthers
Republicans are all Christians
Republicans are all White Males
Republicans are all homophobes
Republicans are all evil
Republicans are all money-grubbing
The lack of substance that issues forth from many of my friends on the left is precisely the sort of "old" politics that has resulted in the extremism that we see today exemplified by our race for Pressident.
It is disingenuous for so many Democrats to be clammering for "change" yet holding hate in their hearts. Change begins at home. You want change: change your heart.
