Bill and Hillary Clinton, "Not-too-Distant" Grandparents?
The Bushes may not be the only political family hearing wedding bells ringing... and possibly pushing baby buggies.
Chelsea Clinton, on the stump in Pennsylvania with her mom Thursday, said she's "thinking about having my own family in the not-too-distant future."
Appealing to voters at Haverford College, Clinton described herself as not just a "young voter" but a "young woman and someone who is thinking about having my own family in the not-too-distant future, something that will make my mother and grandmother infinitely happy." She was joined by both her mother and her grandmother, Dorothy Rodham.
Chelsea's boyfriend, Marc Mezvinsky, the would-be father of Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton's grandchildren, has stayed out of the spotlight this campaign season. Though sources say he, along with other good friends of the former first daughter, have joined Ms. Clinton at various stops on the campaign trail, where she has been a tireless voice for her mother's candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination -- especially on college campuses, which have, by and large, been Barack Obama territory.
Mezvinsky and Clinton already co-parent a dog, a tiny terrier, who has been spotted on the campaign trail with its humans.
Mezvinsky, who works at Goldman Sachs, is the son of two former members of Congress -- Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky and Ed Mezvinsky, who is in prison for fraud.

Lack of experience appeals to lack of experience, that's why Barack Obama has to go after the youth vote.
Just the fact that he is in the campaign is proof that some people are terrified that Hillary will win and be able to do exactly what she says. He could not have decided on his own that he was actually ready to be President, nobody's ego is that big. So, who owns Barack Obama?

jacksmith:
When it comes to you there is no "might" about it, I'm pretty sure I know exactly what you are.
Obama takes most of his huge amounts of cash from small donors. From the working class. This will be the first time in probably more than 30 years that we'll have a president who is funded by the American people rather than a conglomerate of corporations. I just hope its not too late to turn things around.
Also please, Try to tone things down a bit. You're acting just like Hillary with the negativity and the paranoia. It makes you look almost as bad as it makes her look.

One more thing, please guys, try not to be sore losers. Our whole country, our whole planet is in the mess we're in. The worse things get for Hillary and her supporters the worse they act. So lets try to get our eye on the goal and not be sore losers, Ok?

Totally agree with you jacksmith, obama really isnt the right choice, what faces americans right now is huge, with a massive deficit and people struggling on health care the only reason shes being negative is because noone can look past Obamas charisma, if only obama supporters could wake up and realize the man can live up to what he preaches, there is no track record on this guy for experience. Change is something that is going to happen with Hillary. HILLARY 08!!

I thank you for being thoughtful in describing specific issues in your reply vs. focusing on race or Rev. Wright. I am going to rethink this now...thanks for the insight as I never framed my thoughts in that manner before. I don't agree with 100% of your comments but I will do a little more research/thought/prayer today do see where I land.

Hey Jacksmith, If you think Bill Clinton will not be peddling influence, (taking money for introducing bad apples to his wife, the President,) than you are the idiot. The Clintons have so much money sloshing around the foundation that has managed to avoid public scrutiny. Also, thousands of White House records are closed, and thus Hillary's "experience" has not been examined. That's why inventing a Bosnia experience is serious. We have nothing to go on but her word. I voted for Bill Clinton twice, thought the Monica episode was a Ken Starr Republican disgrace to the nation (there should never have been an impeachment process) and was awed by the brains and capability of these two amazing young people from Arkansas. But the Clinton campaign has embarassed me. It is ego-driven, ugly, and the attack machine has made me switch allegiance to OBAMA. If the Clintons had been better people, they would respect the intent of the Constitution. American Democracy needs fresh people, a turnover, new vision, not restorations of Bushes or Clintons.

Patrick : No the majority of Obama monies come from large donors while there is a large amount of small donations adding up to good amount, it is less than 50% of his monies. The majority is from large donors. The only reason to vote Obama is to stop the democrats because Obama will never beat McCain. Polls are no where near accurate in this case because republicans lie on phone polls to get Obama in as the dem to run against McCain.......simply because he can't win against McCain despite Hillary claiming he can for the camera.....she was just being nice. Obama will never carry MA and most likely will not carry CA...both states have voted for republican Governors...not afraid to vote republican.

how sad that after 911 the whole world stood with America to rid the world of such ills and America now repaid the world by squandering all that support by going to war in iraq(old history).
I wish Americans could understand how important this election is to the future of their country and its generations to come.
The next president not only has a lot of work to do domestically but internationally as well. The next 10 yrs is going to determine the direction the U.S is going to take in leading the world into the next century or playing second fiddle to whoever makes it to the top first btw india and china...think this is Joke?
remember all the super powers that have existed in the past? Roman empire, and our old friends the soviet republic, They both fell heavily after they couldn't maintain their hold on the rest of the world.
America was unique because of the fundamentals of its existence "freedom" but now its all gone, America has thrown habeas corpus out the window, allows torture on its prisoners, suspends the geneva convention, abuses prisoners, spy's on its own citizens and chooses to show its might through missiles and tanks.
My love for America as a beacon of hope for any nation in the world, as a nation of pioneers and great thinkers, as a nation that didn't have to use force to get their message across has been replaced by a fear for a nation that has forgotten what it was built on and why it was so revered in the world.
The next president has a serious task on their hands....so how are you going to choose your president?
A president that not only affects your own lives but billions of other people who had no choice in electing them.
The world over the question being asked was "bush all over again? what are they thinking?"
remember you cant take your vote back once its cast so vote wisely...
This isn't American idol

Look. This is what it boils down to. You will either vote for the past, the present, or the future for whatever reasons. If you loved the 90's and thought they were great than you will(should) vote for Clinton. If you like the way things are now, then you will(should) vote for McCain. Now if you think the next 8-10 yrs could be better than the previous 16-20 yrs, then you will(should) vote for Obama. Simple.

The Oracle : No dear if you want the future to be a tragedy then vote Obama but if you want the future to be better than the past or present then vote for the people that started the good life for us all in the 90's which would have continued without a war in Iraq if Gore had been elected to continue it. Bush has distroyed those days in part by creating the war, failing to update NAFTA which Gore would have done if only by import taxing. Now to fix the mess it will take a Clinton and since Hillary is the brightest Clinton we are lucky to have her.
If you want the same then vote McCain.
If you want the worst we have ever seen then vote Obama.....he might give the Pope the finger who knows.
If you want a better life then vote HILLARY CLINTON!!!!!

All I've seen in the aforementioned pro-Hillary stuff is a reason to elect Bill. 35 years of experience in and of itself is not a reason to elect someone. In a million years, I never thought there would be a chance for a republican to win the white house in 2008, but John McCain is definitely the best choice of the 3 left standing.

Clinton managed the budget by taking monies from DOD -- which I agree with, but be fair; he ALSO was the one to 'legalize' RENDITION. He left the City to run back to Arkansas to sign the death warrant for a retarded person. I don't want to hear about all the good those two have done when it simply isn't true. Anyone is better than the Moron in the White House now, but Obama has captured the hope and imagination of everyone and gives us the feeling that finally we might have a chance to truly better our world.

It's really sad that people have to resort to low standards to get there point across, including the candidates. The point is, who can best serve this country for the next 4 years, and cleanup the mess that has been left behind by the bush admin. Let's see, Clinton: Long time senator, very experienced, passionate, been there done that, for the family and healthcare for everyone not just some, traveled the world and met with world leaders(bosnia not a good thing)but continues to fight for the american people.
Obama: 1st time senator, decides to run for the presidency after one year, no crime against that, relationship with a pastor who hates white people, but is now having a house built in a 99%, white neighborhood in Tinley Park IL., worth a half-million dollars, and a 10 million dollar line of credit, Shady dealings with a slum lord(rezco), and (ayers) for domestic terrorist.
My point is If your going to be come President of the U.S, you better be able to back up everything you preach. Obama Preaches to his people and sugarcoats everything. He's a wolf in Sheeps clothing,
and If the youth and those who are mesmerized by his WORDS (JUST WORDS), then you need to get out side of your areas of comfort, and realize that this is a position that just doesn't just include the U.S., but of the world.
Wake up America, Remember the fallen soldiers. OIF VETx3

Wow, this is some of the most corrosive and least helpful political commentary I've seen in a public forum in a long time.
It would be a far more productive use of all our time to actually investigate truth behind fiction for extremely biased supporter charges and media-and-campaign-promoting allegations. Learn for yourself from reliable sources what the candidates have done, haven't done, and read their actual platforms (available on each website). What a concept: It's better to base opinions on fact than on opinion.
And because this gets brought up a lot, I encourage all to identify the policies and real world events which led to the economic boom of the 90's (How much would any President have had to do to take credit for it? Not a whole lot, actually). And if you've never been to one I recommend reading up on black churches (and the concept of including both a scriptural crucifixion lesson and then a message of resurrection in the sermon). Turn media stories into teachable moments, and seek out facts (not opinions or selective media representations) behind news stories. The worst that could happen is you broaden your horizons a bit.
Finally, locate the Senate voting histories and records for various issues by each of the three major candidates. But beware, determine which actual issues are important to you before you look at their records, because the outcomes might surprise you.
Posted by: Michelle | April 18, 2008 12:30 PM
Michelle, I grew up in the urban environment, did you, have you been to a black church, I have, are you speeaking on experince or false intelligence. Whatever they voted for in there senate years, the question is and still is what can they do for the people of America.

Jacksmith: You seem to be entrenched in the logic that a vote for Hillary is a vote for Bill. Well, I can't deny that. Most people in the old Clinton White House are anticipating a likely reinstatement to their old positions. Apparently this is somehow part of the 35 years of change that Hillary has been fighting for.
Speaking of her 35 years of experience. She seems to have a pretty good track record for failure - universal health care for one, white water (most of the illeagal, fraudulant and morally questionable activities in this scandal belonged to Hillary and not Bill), and this campaign (the biggest thing she has ever lead) for another. Is that who you want to hire?
Many attribute the lush times of the 90's to Bill Clinton, but I am pretty sure he was not responsible for the success of the dot-com boom (though he should have known it was built on false money and should have found a way to manage it to avoid the eventual collapse).
Phylblade - you say no one could possible have an ego large enough to decide to run for president on their own, so logically all candidates running for the position (not just Obama) would evidently be beholden to someone. Hmmmm? Perhaps, but that is more likely true for Hillary and McCain than for Obama. Oh, and I don't think Barack has to 'go after' the youth vote; it has come to him. You may also notice that another large segment that consistantly voted for Barack in these primary's/caucuses is the educated vote. Hmmmm? What does that say about who Hillary is targeting?
The question you have to ask yourself is whether you want to vote for a leader based on skills or with great character and a great leader, but who's skills have yet to be revealed. That is not to say that Hillary has great skills, rather the contrary, she has been shown to be largely a failure. Who would you want as your boss, the person with somewhat related experience, but not the exact experience of that position (none of them have that), who has a track record for not getting it right her first time around on most things as well as very questionable character, or a boss who admits to not having a great deal of direct expereince (though he has had success in the areas of his experience) and has high character and good judgement?
If you were deciding between taking two identical jobs and those were your choices, I think the right answer would be clear.

Of all candidates running, despite, gender, race and creed, Obama more typifies the ideals of out founding fathers. Finally someone who has actions to match his words. Finally someone who puts the poeple in front of big business.
We live in a fascist state! This is a fact! The people have to stand up and regain their rights. And Obama will help us move away from "corporate rule". Why else do the oil companies have government subsidies?
If anyone out there does not want Obama for President they are ignorant.

Talk about a cheering squad for Hillary and Mcain! But Americans are showing even today their commitment to voting for Barack Obama, one of the strongest, honest candidates to bring light and hope for such changes in the present state of politics which Americans will embrace. We will see a new administration in step with calls for necessary changes in our political policies surrounding the Iraq war; the need for health insurance for all Americans; the need for resuscitating our weak(ening) economy, and more attention paid to our veterans, especially for those wounded in the war, both physically and mentally and who are still so often forgotten even in this era when we see trillions of dollars spent and wealth going to the already wealthy while working people find there's no work for them. We'll get all that back, including a government wich cares for its people and their needs. And that's the healing that will take place in the Obama administration. Give it a chance and see.

JoeMcK: Get real hon. Universal health care was never going to pass in the house and senate with a majority of republicans. Now is when the ground work Hillary laid for universal health care will become successfull if she is elected. If Obama is nominated the universal health care system is done. For one thing his plan which is mostly copied from Hillary's plan except that he does not include 15 million people will cost more per person because it excludes 15 million people. It really does not matter because Obama will never beat McCain.
You said: "You may also notice that another large segment that consistantly voted for Barack in these primary's/caucuses is the educated vote. "

When I hear people say that Obama has the nomination "all sewed up," I am reminded that he has a LESS THAN 1 PERCENT LEAD in the popular vote, and although he has won more states, it doesn't reflect the population of those states compared to the population of the states Hillary has won. Also, Obama won those states BEFORE the Rev. Wright, and the "cling to guns and religion" issues, and we cannot be sure that the people who voted for him THEN would vote for him TODAY. Admittedly, many who voted for Obama in the primaries are Republicans who have not let go of the "swiftboating" propaganda Republicans put out about Hillary (in an attempt to attack Bill Clinton) and those Republicans will not vote for Obama in the general election. His nomination is ANYTHING but secure.

One thing is for sure..you DO NOT know about Obama's plan..I for one KNOW it as I use it in Illinois and it is more plausible then Hillary's. His plan is not copied as it does not MANDATE you get insurance if you are an ADULT..Look at Massachusetts's and their mandated health care. Many people are fined for not being able to afford the plans available to them.

ok jack (and micheleB)
here is the problem with jack's arguments.
You seem to believe that everything good Bill Clinton has done will somehow magically reappear if Hillary is elected President (with, of course, no mention of the bad stuff). Good economy, some good environmental work on setting aside land (but mostly a mixed record), expansion of family medical leave, a failure at healthcare reform (but at least they made a run at it), but a massive increase in jobs which helped fuel an economic boom. I would be a little more receptive to your arguments if we were voting on Bill Clinton. This is a different time, a different economy, a different set of issues and a different candidate. If you don't realize that, you might be an idiot.
Barack Obama has more experience in public office (14 years to Hillary's 8 years) and has the ability to inspire and issue this generation's call to public service. Most importantly, he is electable. The nation shouldn't have to put up with a another 4 years of Bush policies with McBush.
For the record, I consider myself a fan of Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. I will vote for Hillary if she is the nominee, but would expect that she would get trounced in the general election. The gender glass ceiling needs to be broken, but unfortunately she is not the one to do it. Her negatives are just way to high to be electable.

blogs...the home of the racist, ignorant and uninformed...that's what i'm able to deduce from many of the posts here, unfortunately. hilary is the one who lied about being under sniper fire..the whitewater scandal and so forth...let's not forget that hubby bill doesn't have the greatest record on handling international issues (does anybody remember rwanda?)....the fact that hubby bill locked up more African Americans under his time in the White House than Bush and Reagan is something the press never mentions...Barack on the other hand is someone w/ a fresh perspective..can build a coalition unlike hilary who is too polarizing...she brings too much baggage to the table and has made way too many enemies to be effective...why do u think she failed at universal healthcare the first time around...now i think she's very intelligent w/ a lot of good ideas....however as an African American man, i am offended at her inclusion of race into this campaign...it's unnecessary and speaks to the same old, pathetic politics of the past and it's antiquated...let's move past that...let's turn the page....as far as Rev. Wright is concerned, I'm from Chicago and know many individuals who attend his church...read or watch the entire sermon, nuff said....Rezko? nothing has come up in the trial worth mentioning as it relates to the campaign...Ayers? come on, do u know anybody w/ a shady past? does that reflect on you as a person? didn't think so! are these really the issues Barack has to overcome?? wake up people! not enough experience? maybe this time, that's a good thing! let's get a fresh perspective...if hilary wins it will be going on 20 years of clintons and bushes in the office! does that bother anybody?? and remember, what has hilary really done? the option is to vote for her, not bill, the adulterer!
Posted by: egw | April 18, 2008 6:34 PM
I have always voted for the candidates because of his or her character rather than their political party. Which I guess is picking the lesser of the two evils? My degree or experience are not involved. This is logic and common sense.
Barack Obama is a fine speaker but his view of the America I love is too different from mine. My religion and church promote peace and goodwill, not hate. When thinking of a hunting friend I do not picture someone holding up a 7-11 or shooting a gang buddy over a crack sale. Anger and frustration have nothing to do with either concept.
I want a President who can represent the majority not a divisive angry minority. I want someone who feels as an American and is proud to salute that flag, someone who will not belittle his country folks but, I clearly see, Obama is not the man for this job!
As for Mrs. William J Clinton, it would be refreshing to have a woman President and I am sure many women could do a better job than many of the guys we have had there but, she is, above all, Bill's wife. Cheating and lying is their way of life. She has more baggage than Samsonite. I don't think the country can survive another Clinton presidency and she is certainly no Margaret Thatcher, more like a Madeline Halfbright.
I wish she stop telling us about her 8 years experience in the White House. She was the First Lady not the Commander in Chief. I would not let my doctor's wife cut me open. The same applies here.
Don't you think Hillary and Obama should show a little more respect for the intelligence of the American voters? he never heard Reverend Wright, her husband never inhale and she never doubted his love?...Please
That leaves us with an older loony with a bad temper and no experience on the economy. Not a great choice...let's hope he can come up with a good team to get us going in the right direction and , unlike George W., has the guts to fire the ones that do not measure up swiftly enough.
Posted by: | April 18, 2008 7:28 PM
In the years of 1992-2000 Bill and Hillary have done a great job together. The country was much better off than nowadays. No wars, working to get the economy better and since they both were in the White House, the economy WAS better. She was a good First Lady, who worked at many issues.
So why all the time telling Hillary off and wanting Obama, who has no experience at all, only can say nice words, WHY? There is a good woman with still her nice man, who were loved by many people, especially overseas. Hillary has that experience, that women have who are married to a president, who likes to talk a lot and discuss things with her too, I suppose.
Besides, now we should be happy for Chelsea who has found a nice boyfriend. What the boyfriend's father has done, is not an impotant now. As long as he loves Chelsea and will be in the future a good husband for her. Chelsea is not stupid, but very clever, and who can say they have a daughter who helps her mother so much as she does. Most would stay away from the political scene.
Let's stop throwing mud again. Hillary is a good woman and a good candidate who can beat McCain probably much better than Obama can. She is a fighter and won't give up. I admire that in a woman. Being beaten herself, but it seems to slide off her skin. If not, she does not show that she is hurt but bites back and continues.
LET'S VOTE FOR HILLARY!

I agree with Jack Smith.Let me wrap up what he's saying. If you vote for Obama you are an idiot period and you are not voting intelligently.Lets put it this way,do you want charisma or do you want experience ?
Its as simple as that.Ask yourself this question. If you want charisma, vote for Obama. If you want experience, vote for Hillary.I can't believe these Obama people. This is too big of a job for him.We
are not going to get problems solved with
Obamas charisma but we can get problems
solved with Hillarys experience.I can't
believe it when I hear-oh,I haven't decided
yet. What is there to decide ? You really
don't have to be a genious to know that
Hillary Clinton would make a better President. We have big problems. We have gas
prices,war,economy,forclosures,medical
insurance crisis,jobs,the deficit,global
warming,stem cell issues,gay issues,keeping
jobs in the US and so much more.Don't be an
idiot, vote Hillary for the sake of America.

Jacksmith:
I would never vote for someone based on what their spouse did. Nothing you listed can be credited to hillary. And her only personal attempt was an utter failure because she failed to realize that success requires more than just knowledge and fight. It also requires reaching across to the other side and recognizing that your way is not the only way. When you are able to list real accomplishments from Hillary, i will reexamine my vote.

I find it most disturbing that so many of the pro-Hillary commentators can only resort to anti-Obama dreck that makes up the Republican talking points. The tone of so many pro-Hillary supporters recalls fifth-grade name-calling that ultimately reflects poorly on the commenter.
The sad story is that the negative tactics of Hillary and her supports has brought McCain back into contention. How disappointing that Hillary, Bill and their supporters are taking a scorched earth policy when the GOP has left us with an economy in or near recession, a war in Iraq depends more on the fragile cease fire of the Mahdi Militia than our military strategy, a President defines success in Iraq as "success", gas and oil prices that hit records each day, food prices that are soaring, an economy with take-home pay for most Americans going down compared to 2000 and a housing assistance bill in Congress that does more to bail out corporations than struggling individuals. If this is where "experience" leads us, then I'm much more interested in taking a chance on "inexperience".
If Hillary is the Democratic nominee, I will certainly vote for her but I'm not sure how much energy I'll give to support her in the crucial months of September through November. She's given me no inspiring vision of her leadership in months.
To the contrary, as someone under 40, she's actually insulted my generation by saying in effect that we're simply not capable of governing ourselves. That intergenerational slap rings pretty empty when the "experienced" generation will leave us with a federal debt over $10 trillion, a broken health care system, an economic system that serves only the wealthy, an income disparity worse than pre-Depression days, torture being justified for use by Americans, rights guaranteed in our Constitution being curtailed or qualified by government lawyers and substantial uncertainty with the state of international security.
I am an Obama supporter because he is the candidate that speaks to my desire for a new vision of our country. Even through his campaign problems, he uses the opportunities to hold a mirror up to our country and examine what is happening in our communities. I am not an idiot, or some "uninformed" young voter. I understand the issues and what it means to be a progressive and that we are on the wrong track.
I walked the streets for Kerry and Edwards in 2004 and I continue to lament that Al Gore was not in the White House on 9/11. I will walk the streets many times over for Obama this fall, if he the Democratic candidate.
If Hillary is the Democratic candidate, then she and her supporters will have to convince me and many others like me that we are valued. Otherwise, you can count on my vote but don't count on me to walk the streets with someone who considers me an idiot or too uninformed to know better. And if you can't mend fences, then don't bother calling for money, because I won't support a candidate who has shown contempt for me and who has allowed her supporters to insult fellow progressives. Hillary can't control what all her supporters say, but she can set the tone for her campaign. Recently, she's chosen to go negative and insulting and too many of her supporters have followed suit.
As progressives and Democrats, our top priority is to ensure McCain isn't elected. We can't afford and future generations can't afford another four years of Bush tax cuts, unending war in Iraq and a belief that our economy should serve only corporations and the wealthy. The current tone of the Democratic process merely disenchants fellow Democrats and potential independent supporters. We need to show that regardless whether the Democratic nominee is Obama or Hillary, there will be progressive change and that we can realize Paul Wellstone's vision that we all do better when we all do better.

I thought this article was about Chelsea Clinton. you would never know it by reading the posts. Chelsea has been a modist help to her mother at best. Her refusal to answer questions or be interviewed by reporters has diminished her value I think. Hillary has one large problem in securing the nomination and running for president. I believe she will not help any of the rest of the Democratic ticket because she brings to many negatives to the campaign. You have to maintain the slim leads in the Democratic controled House and Senate and Obama gives you the best chance of that.

I have been a long-time admirer of Hillary Clinton; John McCain; and Barak (sp?) Obama. It wasn't until they became official candidates of the presidency that I began to scrutinize each record.
Senator McCain, to me, is an honorable and well-meaning person. I have learned and now believe that his methods are too much like the current President Bush and will only give us more of the same.
Senator Obama is a wonderful and charasmatic speaker. It appears as though his heart is in the right place. That description fits a number of well-qualified people; however, without the "in the trenches" experience, and during this very serious timeframe, the fuzzy feeling I get when I hear him speak is not enough!
Hillary Clinton (forget the fact she's a woman) IMO is the best candidate. I trust her leadership abilities.
Additionally, comments continue to be made about past "relatives," affiliations, "deals made," etc. Hey everybody -- find me a candidate who is altruistic and with no baggage, and I'm inclined to believe they've never taken a risk! We need a committed leader, who can speak well, who can see beyond his/her nose and who is committed to bringing the US back to its "heyday!" This cannot be a popularity contest. As someone in this blog mentioned: This is not American Idol!!!

I agree with everything Janet has said, except about McCain. I do not believe he is an honorable and well meaning person..Just look at his life...when he came back from the war he found his wife a cripple and he went right out and found himself a really rich one, had an affair and then divorced his wife. He shut down all the paperwork on the MIA's to hide his own collorabation with the enemy, he refuses to vote any money for the Vets....He is a typical REPUBLICAN.....I got mine, screw you!!!!
Posted by: ratface | April 21, 2008 11:52 AM
Jacksmith where did you get all of the things that you stated Sen.Obama said in your post? We as the electorate can not succomb to the same type of politics that exaggerates and embellishes.
Sen Obama spoke the truth which is something rare in politics, that is why it made such an uproar. I believe people know exactly what Sen. Obama meant because he has said it before, that people have lost their faith in Government at all levels.
I had worked for over thirty-one years-sometimes five jobs at one time- to support my family and put a roof over their heads. I had my home flooded by Hurricane Katrina, because levees were built inferior and ill maintained. I have a home that has been boarded up for two years, I have been called a refugee in my own country, I have relatives and friends die or scattered across the country never to be seen again. I am dismayed that help reached the victims of the tsunami in a shorter time than it reached New Orleans, an American city, I understand what frustration is. I am not looking for sympathy, I had insurance I did things the way I was told that they was supposed to be done. Still I am in pain, most of the people I know are suffering and for governmental related things that space will not allow me to articulate. I reiterate that people are frustrated and I would dare to say bitter, and not just in small towns. I was taught when you read something you read above and below. Did anyone hear what was said before or after the comment or why it was said or did we just buy into the deperate accusations of candidates and the sensationalism of the new media?
As far as the debate some experts said he did well to take the high road. Certainly, when it came to religion he could have reminded us that it was reported that Sen. Clinton said the last time she went to church was Easter. The untruth that was told(3times) when Sen. Clinton said that they had to run to the vehicles with their heads down because of possible sniper fire. Sen. Obama could have reminded us of the untruths that Bill Clinton told when he said that his wife had only said this once and it was at 11:00 p.m. and she was tired and her memory was fuzzy. Sen. Obama could have said, well, if Sen. Clinton can not get things straight at 11:00 p.m., how could she possibly make the right decision and exercise good judgement at 3:00 a.m.? Sen. Obama did informed the public of the fact that former President Clinton did pardon two people who had been members of the Weathermen. Sen Obama could have asked why have the Clintons not release the names of the donors of the Clinton library and why not? Sen.Obama did not want to tear Sen. Clinton down down, but the republicans will. The Clinton campaign probably knows this and the DNC probably know this, the republicas want to face Hillary for obvious reasons.
Also, I look at the fact that some of Clinton's former cabinet member and others who worked for the Clintons are now backing Obama. Evidently they know something that we may not know. The most telling fact is that former V.P. under Clinton Al Gore have not endosed Hillary. Also, former V.P. Gore seemed to not want former President Clinton intimately involved in his campaign for president. These are some of the things that I look at.
My point is let us the electorate stay candid and leave the lying, oh I mean misspeaking to the candidates.

Jacksmith: Your anger and vitriol are the very sad outcome of this primary. Your accusations of idiocy to all who disagree with you are emblematic of what has happened to a once great party that was a natural "shoe in" to the White House in January 2009. Your partisan raging fails to concede we Democrats still have two very good candidates. Clearly your choice is HRC which is absolutely terrific. My choice is Barack Obama. Why all the denunciations and hysteria? This race is about more than the singlular person of HRC or Obama; this race is about the future of this country. A wiser soul would calm down and realize your candidate, or perhaps mine, may or may not get the nomination. Is your alternative John McCain or, worse yet. opting out of the electoral process like a angry child? Calm down, manage a breath and take a longer view of this election and the life-changing results that could ensue if a Republican stays in the White House.

Wow! Those were some vivid comments about John McCain, "Ratface!" It's hard to believe the media is not on HIS case for so-called "moral discrepancies!" They seem to pounce like vultures on any real or imagined peccadillo insinuated by other candidates. In fact, when McCain was alleged to have had a liaison with another woman recently, he calmly said, "no" it never happened. Not that I like how the press handles most episodes, but it seemed almost unnatural the way they let that situation slide! I thought this was an "equal opportunity" media! Smear one, smear them all! How do others feel about that? (My goodness - are WE off topic!!!)
Posted by: Janet | April 21, 2008 3:29 PM
Comment to Janet: You will notice that the Media is trying to elect John McBush...all softball questions, patting him on the back, our HERO.......Republicans need HEROS, like telling us Bush did his service in the National Guard when we all know he went AWOL. (His records were wiped out) They will try to make a Hero out of this one.....only the macho male, or the women afraid of attack,or of course, the wealthy who want to keep their tax cuts, will vote for him......All we have to worry about is Hillary or Obama. Personly I would even take our local dogcatcher over McBush.

We are living and working in Kenya for almost twelve years now and know his family (tribe) well. They are the ones who were behind the recent Presidential election chaos here. Thousands of people have been displaced by election violence(over 350,000) and I don't know the last count of the dead.Obama under "friends of Obama" gave almost a million dollars to the opposition campaign who just happened to be his cousin, Raila Odinga, who is a socialist trained in east germany . He has been trying to bring Kenya down for years and the last president threw him in prison for trying to subvert this country! December 27th elections brought cries from ODM (Odinga Camp) of rigged election. Obama and Raila speak daily. As we watch Obama rise in the US we are sure that whatever happens, he will use the same tactic, cyring rigged election if he doesn't win and possibly cause a race war in America .
What we would like you to know is what the american press has been keeping a dirty little secret. Obama IS a muslim and he IS a racist and this is a fullfilllment of the 911 threat that was just the beginning. Jihad is the only true muslim way. We have been working with them for 20 years this july! He is not an american as we know it. Please encourage your friends and associates not to be taken in by those that are promoting him. It is world wide jihad. All our friends in Europe are very disturbed by the mulsim infiltration into their countries. By the way. His true name is Barak Hussein Muhammed Obama. Won't that sound sweet to our enemies as they swear him in on the Koran!
God Bless you.
Pray for us here in Kenya . We are still fighting for our nation to withstand the same kind of assult that every nation, including America , is fighting. Takeover from the outside to fit the new world order. As believers, this means we will be the first targets. Here in Kenya , not one mosque was burned down, but hundreds of churches were burned down, some with people in them, burned alive...

To "Ratface":
The whole past seven years have been a travesty. Never thought of "John McBush," but it is clever! All I can say is I am fearful that a number of people are not getting the right information. I am also fearful that the Democrats who are deserting Hillary are doing so because they may feel Obama can be manipulated easier due to his lack of experience. More of our elected officials seem to be interested in "business as usual" than saving the country from its continual downhill spiral. We certainly need a change, but one that puts the American people ahead of special interests and greed! I have never seen us so divided as a country and it is very distressful to experience it!

Decisions & more...Decisions...Facing each of us as we try to decide who is Best to lead America & to Work with the world as they Lead. I want a person who truly Loves America & the People who Live in My Country, Land of the Free,...."America". Of all the areas I have lived in, thru out the World, America has Always been the Best! American's are Giving of Themselves to Others, through Charities, Money,Food,Clothes, Adopting children who need parents, to Helping as many people of All races that they can, Who really Need the help! The majority of Americans are not selfish, they are Very giving of themselves, for other people thru charities or fund-raisers,etc. We have had many Excellent Presidents along the way & a few "clinkers" in one form or
another...but even the "clinkers" tried to do the best of their ability, because they Truly Loved America....Too. Plus, the best part of this message; is that each of our Presidents through out the years...ALL BELIEVED IN GOD...That is saying Something about America & All Americans. Just say the Pledge of Alliegence to the Flag, to yourself & you will understand what I am saying...!
Americans need a Leader that will continue to be there for The People of the United States of America! So I say, if you can't abide by our Laws, then don't waste your time coming to America,~~~because the majority are Hard Working People trying to be the Best that We can Be for Our Country, the USA!! and for the Future President's that Truly Believe in America & not a person who Wants to be a President
because he has power from friends who are helping him money-wise, Barack Obama, who is a Muslim;who won't honor the American Flag;He talks a good talk, but can he Walk the Good Walk, under God Bless America? I say he speaks with forked Tongue...I do not trust him any further than I can throw him....So Americans, reading this...Do think Wisely, what your Gut is telling, as who you Vote for will mean, your future in America as you know it Now...What Will Change In America..."IF" you Vote for Obama?.....time to ponder this...in a serious way....the future decisions of All in America when they Vote This Time...might end up being the End of America, as we Know and Love...GWTW=gone with the wind...."our America"...Wouldn't you Like to have an Hand in Preventing This from Happening? Hmmmm? Think...seriously on this please...it is a matter of Life in America as We All Know It...and if you don't know what I am talking about..it's time you start Reading up about it in the newspapers, internet, or wherever you might have a friend who is up on the latest!!JNM

Well, that explains the attraction.
A father-in-law in prison for fraud, and a father imprisoned for cheating his law firm and its clients. And the daughter might someday be President. Only in America.

OJ Simpson was acquitted of murder. Period. That's what the system found, and that is the way it is. Just like Hillary is not winning. Period. That's what the system is leading to, and that is the way it will be. You don't get to whine about how you would be winning if the game itself had different rules (thanks, Bill!). You knew what the game was going in, you knew the rules, you played, you lost, that's it, get out.

I am constantly amazed at how Hillary Clinton's supporters mirror her desperation. She is only the latest in a long line of corporate shills, and yet there are those posting here who swear she will stand up to the very entities who fund hers and Bill's campaigns and lifestyle. She "swears" she'll end the Iraq (not the equally illegal and immoral Afghan)war, but she voted for the debacle without even bothering to read the full NIE. How is that intelligent leadership? She was not involved in anything but the health care debate in Bill's administration, and yet she claims those 8 years, and his years as governor of Arkansas, as her own firsthand "experience". That folks, is what George Bush is famous for. It's called, in genteel terms....lying. Hillary Clinton is a creature of the Democratic Leadership Council, the right wing of the Democratic Party. Her advisors come from the same lobbying firms and corporate board rooms as did Bill's, and as do Bush's. In other words, her election would guarantee the status quo, with a slightly different spin to it. While Sen. Obama is not perfect, he is miles ahead of Sens. Clinton and McCain in the "vision thing". And, if you would stop to actually read his platform, he has in depth, workable plans to achieve those goals. So, Clinton supporters, get used to the idea that your candidate has lost this election, and get behind Sen. Obama, who, by the way, JNM, is NOT Muslim (not that that should matter) and he is NOT anti-American (get over the flag pin nonsense, please). Unless, of course, you prefer the doddering old man on the other side who has no clue about economics, and promises war as the solution for the next hundred years or so.

I AM GLAD YOU ASKED WHY CLINTON IS THE DAVID AND OBAMA IS THE GOLIATH.
OBAMA WAS BOUGHT AND PAID FOR YEARS AGO BY AUCHI, REZKO, OPRAH,KENNEDY, AL GORE, PELOSI AND GEORGE SOROS TO BE THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE FOR DICK CHENEY'S ENERGY BILL. THE DNC WANTED A 50 STATE PRIMARY TO BRING OUT NEW REGISTERED DEM VOTERS.
COAL OR SHALE OR MOUNTAINTOP MINING CAN BE VERY LUCRATIVE IN MONTANA, S.D.,N.D. IDAHO, COLORADO, & PENNSYLVANIA.
6 RED STATES GOVERNORS GOT TOGETHER WITH NANCY PELOSI AND SAID WE WILL GET DEMS THE HOUSE AND SENATE BUT YOU MUST GET US DICK CHENEY'S ENERGY BILL PASSED. TOGETHER WE WILL GET THE SENATE AND CONGRESS MAJORITY TOGETHER. NANCY PELOSI- 60 IN THE CONGRESS AND HARRY REID- 20 MORE DEMOCRATS IN THE SENATE.
1. TO GET THE SAME TAX BREAKS THAT OIL COMPANIES GET.
2.WITH OIL GOING TOWARDS $120 A BARREL THIS STRIP MINING CAN BE LUCRATIVE BUT RELEASES AND IS COSTLY.
3. GORE HAS A CLEAN COAL DICK CHENEY ENERGY BILL SIGNED BY OBAMA. IT REQUIRES ELECTRICITY TO BE PRODUCED 20% BY WIND, SOLAR, AND ALTERNATIVE ENERGY. COAL WHICH IS OUR CHEAPEST FORM OF ELECTRICITY IS THE MOST WIDELY USED.
THIS SOUNDS GOOD ON PAPER BUT IT COULD COST AMERICAN TRIPLE OR QUADRUPLE OUR ELECTRIC BILL. SO FOLKS COULD HAVE A $400 ELECTRIC BILL INSTEAD OF A $100. THINK ENRON. AMERICANS FAMILIES AND BUSINESSES ARE ALREADY REELING FROM $4.00 GAS PRICES.
COAL STATES WANT THE SUBSITIES AND TAX BREAKS. BUT TEARING ALL THE TREES OFF A MOUNTAIN AND GRINDING SHALE INTO ENERGY POLLUTES MORE WATER AND RELEASES MORE CARBON GASES THAN IT'S WORTH FOR ENVIROMENTALISTS. SHELL TRIED IT IN 1980.
OPRAH PROMOTED THE INCONVENIENT LIE BUT AMERICANS ARE NOT FOOLED.
AMERICANS ARE SO BITTER THEY CLING TO GUNS AND CLING TO RELIGION AND HAVE HAVE ANTIPATHY FOR THOSE OTHER THAN THEMSELVES.
NOW OBAMA INSULTED THE GUNS AND RELIGION FOLKS IN ALL THE COAL STATES SO THEY WON'T VOTE FOR HIM NOW. THESE WERE THE VERY PEOPLE THAT WERE PROMISED LONG AGO TO PELOSI AND REID. ALL THE MOUNTAIN COAL STATES ARE LEFT AND WHITE MALES STILL WON'T VOTE FOR HIM AND NOW HAVE REASON NOT TO BECAUSE OF HIS DISTAINFUL COMMENT.

Janet: We are all distressed with the condition of "politics" and the Media today, it is owned by big business and they have their agenda. I don't believe the Muslim bull about Obama, but some of his votes beg question......Clinton had NAFTA shoved down his throat by a Rep. Congress, I have to feel Hillary is a different enity, she knows Bill threw his Legacy away with the Monica business, and I think she wants to do a good job for the Country. Being the first woman, she would have to try to clean it up, but remember that the men want it dirty, that is how they make their millions, look what they have done. Our economy is 70% consumer spending........the Repubs have eliminated the jobs and money from the middle class, given themselves big tax breaks, spending is down, we have recession, so what have they accomplished...total chaos...Gas Prices so high we have to limit our trips to the grocery!! Inflation is going to eat up our retirement money putting us into the class of poor and they will say.......you should have worked harder, as they steal thru the market manipulations, from the government, who is willing to give money to any hairbrained scheme as long as they get their kickbacks. Our Country is gone due to lack of honesty, greed, and ignorance....and the next generation that has not a clue as to the hard work that it took to make this Country great...the fact that Geo.Bush has been our President is a tribute to the ignorance of half the people in this Country....and they did it twice (vote cheating aside). We need to go to the voter records and expell those who voted for him from the Country, send them to Paraguay with him when he runs to avoid a War Crimes trial!!!!!!

My husband says that we have to face the truth; unfortunately,Obama will be given the nomination by the superdelegates and we will loose to McCain in the general election.
He wouldn't be ahead if Florida and Michigan voters would have been allowed to vote. However, he needs the Superdelegates because he will never reach the magic number of 2025!!
I was planning to vote for him at the GE however, I changed my mind when I saw on Youtube that he gave Hillary the finger at a rally. This happened on 041708. The crowd was cheering him on as if he was doing something great. He reminded me of Reverand Wright doing the sexual act in front of his congregation and children. This performance just show immaturity and unprofessionalism for any public figure.
People who are voting for him are ignorant if they believe he will win against McCain. No way no how!!

Also, lets remind Obama's voters that Obama is responsible for the gas prices rising. He voted for the Bush-Cheney energy bill. So you have no one to blame but him; Obama the candidate you are cheering and voting for!! Hillary voted against it!!

Oops, I forgot to add that McCain voted against the Enerby Bill as well. Therefore think about who would make a better President. McCain or Obama. I vote McCain before I vote Obama.
However, I hope and pray that Hillary wins big in Pennsylvania!!
Hillary is our only hope for this Country!!

To Ratface; LindaGR
I appreciated both your comments and truly would like Hillary to be the winner! I do not know where to start to put in an effort to change some of the disturbing trends in the country. I write letters to senators and congressmen and they send me back "canned" letters avoiding any intelligent answers. One of my bones of contention is the "electoral college." I believe everyone's vote must count in order to select a true majority. And term limitations - particularly for our other elected officials. We have made them a bed of roses. I could go on forever. Most of all, we need informed voters.

Janet, try Canada.

Janet.....Hillary did it in Pa!!! She could end up the nominee.......with a fight. Now, I worry about Bill and his connection with Daddy Bush....I hope that if she becomes President, she will shove him into a room and lock the door. Run the Country as she sees it. I am afraid for our Country...I talked to a neighbor yesterday...in NC...he says "This Country is not ready for a woman." I said to him if it isn't it is because of the narrow minded white male......He said, I am not voting for a black guy....So, I said you will vote for the lying jackass....well, it's MY Right.....this is what we are fighting.....just pure ignorance. We have so much of it, liberal school systems...we need to toughen up on these kids, make them learn HISTORY, since it repeats over and over. They also need to learn RESPONSIBILITY.....pay your own way....these are not Republican traits, they are what we all should live by, but arent.
I have to commend Hillary for her guts to hang in there when everyone was telling her to get out...forget the balls, that woman has GUTS.....GO HILLARY !!!!!!!!

What a heart warming tale. A hedge fund employee in love with a Goldman Sachs investment banker with criminal parents. Not elitist at all. Excuse me while I vomit.

Ratface,
Are the constant periods .... in your post indications that your a slurring drunk? Yes, schools are liberal because they use those pesky things called facts. If they were conservative, there would be no New Deal, no depression or robber barons, and all Cold War and Reagan worship. Your neighbir sounds like a Republican mouthbreather who voted for W twice.

LindaGR,
Hillary voted against fuel efficiency standards in '05 and the Clinton administration did little to address alternative energy. Put blame where blame is due.

Happy to read your post,"Ratface!" It seems that I run across these ignorant attitudes from supposedly very intelligent people who are not thinking intelligently, also. I facilitate a monthly discussion group here in Connecticut and one of the members decided to put out a petition on healthcare reform a few years ago. After collecting over 200 signatures to send to our elected officials, one of the husbands of the signers walked up to his wife and demanded she cross her name off the list. Damn it! She did! I don't know which one was the more ignorant!
I am a fervent backer of Hillary Clinton. No matter who one chooses for the presidency (or for that matter, any post) there is the human tendency of having "dirty laundry!" Now I'm no more nor less filled with "baggage" as the next person. However, I believe one should look at the big picture. Forget the pettiness of "why she wears pantsuits" or "we're not ready for a woman president," etc. There are many countries who have had wonderful women presidents, and are more sophisticated than the USA because they select who they feel is the best person for the job. It absolutely boggles my mind that so many of her constituents have turn-coated. My feeling is, they are afraid she will not have "business as usual," and is "her own person!" What fun would it be, to be an elected official without the ability to fleece the American public, at will, and continue on the "gravy train????"
Sorry - Got on my soapbox!!! :)

. . . . furthermore (I use dots sometimes, too) at this critical time with Iraq, the economy, impending war with a number of nations, we NEED someone who can get the job done! I like a poet, also. And I am one, sometimes. I am not an ideal candidate for President of the United States! Hillary is!!! (end of report!) LOL

jacksmith; Interesting commentary! However, in any democratic society, everyone is entitled to their opinion whether you like it or not. Furthermore, anyone with an opinion or a choice different than yours IS NOT an idiot. Secondly, Hillary Clinton is the candidate currently running for President - NOT Bill Clinton, and therefore, your argument in her favor on that point is in fact baseless. I would vote for Bill Clinton again if that were the case - based purely on a foreign and domestic policy.
Every four years, Americans have an opportunity to vote and make it clear who they want as leaders. Many countries in the rest of the world - Iraq prior to the war - and great nations have the same opportunity squandered each time and when the people react, the media refers to the outbreaks of violence" Ethnic Violence", "Civil War" and "Ethnic Cleansing", without pointing out that, those nations have constitutions in place not too different from the American Constitution. Specifically, more recently: Kenya - if the constitution is being followed - why has a nation that has been a Republic, independent of the British for 46-years, only had three presidents? What is happening to the peoples vote? Perhaps, in fact, no doubt, the sitting government in that country feels that if the people - a majority- exercising their democratic right are voting them out of office, the people are "idiots".
My point being, use your freedom wisely, your freedom is not intended for the repression of others by demeaning them with insults, it is in fact meant for you to freely question the order of things that affect your life and the lives of your family and make the choice that you think best meets your needs regardless of what your neighbor or your fellow countryman believes.
If you have any questions about that, look closely around you and ask the "New Americans": from war torn regions Iran, Iraq, Bosnia, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ruanda and Sierra Leone what brought them here - many would not have needed to flee their countries if their votes had actually counted or if the government did think of the population as "idiots". Then be grateful because ALL AMERICANS - can freely make our choices known and continue to live in peace:
THANK GOD FOR AMERICA.
Best wishes, not matter what your vote.

If you think like Barack Obama, that WORKING CLASS PEOPLE are just a bunch of "BITTER"!, STUPID, PEASANTS, Cash COWS!, and CANNON FODDER. :-(
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) went to war only when he was convinced that he absolutely had to. Then completed the mission in record time against a nuclear power. AND DID NOT LOSE THE LIFE OF A SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER. NOT ONE!
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience saving the environment is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) left office with the greatest amount of environmental cleanup, and protections in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think all those Republicans voting for Obama in the Democratic primaries, and caucuses are doing so because they think he is a stronger Democratic candidate than Hillary Clinton. :-)
Best regards
jacksmith... Working Class :-)
p.s. You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you don't know that the huge amounts of money funding the Obama campaign to try and defeat Hillary Clinton is coming in from the insurance, and medical industry, that has been ripping you off, and killing you and your children. And denying you, and your loved ones the life saving medical care you needed. All just so they can make more huge immoral profits for them-selves off of your suffering...
You see, back in 1993 Hillary Clinton had the audacity, and nerve to try and get quality, affordable universal health care for everyone to prevent the suffering and needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of you each year. :-)
Approx. 100,000 of you die each year from medical accidents from a rush to profit by the insurance, and medical industry. Another 120,000 of you die each year from treatable illness that people in other developed countries don't die from. And I could go on, and on...
