They're Baaaack... Swift Boat Veterans Take Aim At Obama

Just as they sought to destroy John Kerry in 2004, the founders of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth group are aiming their guns at this season's presumptive Democratic presidential candidate. But unlike four years ago, when the Swifties spent millions to discredit Kerry, their hit on Barack Obama so far hasn't cost them a dime.

The opening assault came over the weekend in the form of a mass email to would-be sympathizers. "As liberal as Kerry was, America faces an even more liberal threat today: Barack Obama," wrote John O'Neill, a founder of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth who co-authored the book "Unfit for Command," the attack (or smear) on Kerry's Vietnam War record.

In the email, O'Neill promoted the new anti-Obama book just released by the conservative National Review Online political reporter David Freddoso, titled "The Case Against Barack Obama: The Unlikely Rise and Unexamined Agenda of the Media's Favorite Candidate." O'Neill exposes Obama as -- gasp! -- a liberal, and urged everyone on his email listserv to buy up the books in bulk.

But not everyone who received O'Neill's email was receptive.

In fact, one Democratic lobbyist who found the email in his inbox over the weekend was so furious that he hit reply -- cc'ing the Sleuth -- saying: "I am not your 'friend' so take me off your list you no good [expletive]."

That email probably never reached O'Neill, since it was sent to the email address "no-reply@HumanEventsOnline.com." Human Events, the hard-core conservative publication, is a sister company to Regnery Publishing, which published Freddoso's book as well as O'Neill's hit job on Kerry in 2004.

Not to be outdone, O'Neill's Swift Boat cohort, Jerome Corsi, has his own new Obama attack book out called "The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality." He showed up promoting the book last week in -- what else? -- a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity.

In his email to friends (and at least one foe), O'Neill said he was "privileged" to have played a role in the last presidential election "in helping prevent John Kerry from being elected president." Today, he said, "Democrats and the media are not holding Obama accountable, so conservatives must."

What's the smoking gun O'Neill and Co. have on Obama? He has the "#1 most liberal voting record in the Senate. And a politician whose rhetoric of 'change' does not match the reality of his corrupt, 'Chicago-machine politics' background," O'Neill writes.

Not exactly bombshell stuff, guys, considering those are already pat GOP talking points. We can't help but wonder if the Swifties have lost a few knots over the past four years?

It's sad to hear that these conservative veterans are attacking Senator Obama for no reason. I'll say this - I have a lot of respect for veterans because my father fought for the Army, and my sister also served in the Navy. But, I've also learned that Bush and McCain cannot be trusted. I choose to support Senator Obama because I have seen the stress that war places on families. And also, Bush's war was unnecessary and deceptive. I Refuse to support McCain because our Veterans have suffered too much, and our service men and women deserve respect. Bush is mistreating our soldiers. Senator Obama offers an exit-strategy, and McCain promises another 100 years in Iraq. It's time to support our troops and Senator Obama. Senator Obama knows we must re-unite our soldiers with their families. We can't let Bush's pride get in the way. Vote Obama for 2008.

Such nonsense. These so-called writers probably don't realize neocon Americans are not exactly great consumers of literature. The book against Kerry seems to have been read only by the media, who dutifully supplied the intense hype necessary to smear a good man.

The Swift Boaters told us that they just wanted to expose the truth about John Kerry's Viet Nam record. Now it turns out they are all about trashing any Democratic candidate who dares to threaten Republican power. What a surprise! What they truly support is endless war, the continued destruction of the middle class, the trashing of our environment and putting an end to everything good that America once stood for. They supported Bush and now they support John McSame.
The American people will not be fooled by these extremist charlatans again.

The "most liberal" ploy is so tiring I am surprised some people still respond to it.

So, once again for our non-thinking, non-reading conservative friends.

The most liberal senator is Bernie Sanders(I-Vt.). Ted Kennedy, Feingold, Schumer, Dodd, Reed, and Feingold also deserve consideration.

How sad that some folks hatred of others runs so deep that they have to resort to dirty tricks and lies. I personally strongly dislike George Bush, but would never waste my hard-earned money or waste my precious time discrediting him or bringing him down. His own actions have and will continue to do that for him. I have to hope that some day, the American people will turn their back on hate and embrace hope.

I'm not an Obama supporter, but if the people who lied and committed cowardly attacks on John Kerry's Vietnam record are against Obama, perhaps I should reconsider?

Ain't nothing like hypocritical outrage, eh?

These misguided vets are just like McCain: they are gaming the country for their own selfish purposes....They, like McCain, are seeking profit from their service in the military. Well, they forget that the rest of us, who paid for the military while they served, also served our country, and are still serving it....Indeed, we are still paying those who presume that they are entilted to special status simply because they are vets....I say no way....There are thousands of Americans who have given more than these profiteers but who never use that fact to seek high office or make profit....McCain has no distinguished service....He was shot down, but nothing of note before or after that event....So, what is McCain's claim to fame? His Daddy and Granddaddy were vets and he married a rich girl; this is his claim to fame.

the Swiftboaters were able to discredit a 3 time Purple Heart Recipient and hand the reins of power to incompetent liars in 04 - because they were aided and abetted by Corporate Media - who presented their hogwash again and again as if they raised valid questions.

Your column here did not refute their claim about Senator Obama being the most liberal Senator even though it has been factually shot down again and again

O'Neil and Corsi should be given the column inches they deserve - that of Fred Phelps or the Area 51 crowd.

In the beginning John McCain created Barack Obama. And darkness was upon the face of Obama, for McCain had altered the face of Obama. And McCain said, Let there be Deceit and there was Deceit. And McCain saw the Deceit, that it was good: and McCain divided the Deceit from the Truth. And McCain called Obama "deceit," and Himself he called Truth. And McCain said, Let there be Deceit in the midst of the people, and let Obama be Deceit and McCain the Truth. And McCain made the Commercial, and divided the people from the Truth, for Deceit was in His campaign:and it was so. And McCain said, Let us make Obama in our image, after our likeness: So McCain created Obama in his own image, in the image of McCain created he him; And McCain cursed Barack Obama, and McCain said unto Obama, You will not take the Presidency from Me, nor have dominion over the people of America. And McCain said, Behold, I have given this Commercial unto my people, to them it shall be for meat. And to every beast that creepeth upon the earth, I have sacrificed Truth for my presidential ambitions: and it was so. And McCain saw every Commercial that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.

Why is there not a groundswell of indignations against irresponsible or deliberately injurious misstatements?

The cowardly liars are at it again. Conservatives have screwed up this country beyond repair. America was founded by liberals not simple minded racists. Liberal media ? This country is owned and operated by corporations and they control the media. They are not liberals. They care about two things: power and money. Look around , the media doesn't intelligently report on anything that could inform the masses. They report what their corporate masters tell them . Fear and hate mongers that's all conservatives have become. Check to see how many republicans currently in power have served our country in the armed forces. Not too many.

I have voted republican my whole life. I am a christian and I voted for them not because I agreed with all their platforms, but because I believed they held the high moral ground. Alas, I was wrong. To pedal some aspects of what would be considered good christian principles, while at the same time raping the poor via corporate greed is incredibly hypocritical. They tell the poor to 'go get a job' while blocking legislation until they get money for corporate welfare, they make speeches about compassion while sanctioning torture, they act entirely for their own well being and completely ignore, no, not ignore, they demonize and then ridicule those who they trample on. I find their ways to be the essence of Un-Christ like behavior. The only place mercy or compassion now have in the republican party is the doormat, and I will have nothing further to do with them. So, now I am forced to vote democrat for the first time in my life. Though I may not agree with the whole platform, at least the terms mercy and compassion have a place there. I apologize to every American for ever having supported them.

Hmmm...they really need a new name, something more generic. The "SwftBoat Veterans for Truth" doesn't really have any bearing on Obama, since he wasnt old enough to be drafted for Vietnam (or enlist, but he never joined the military anyway). Also, they're not even accusing him of lying, so even the "for Truth" part doesnt come into play. They need a nice generic name like MoveOn, another independent organization that has long outlived their welcome.

Posted by: Jack | August 5, 2008 11:08 AM | Report abuse

Not a very balanced post, Ms. Akers. After serving in Vietnam for a grand total of 4 months, John Kerry used his opposition to the war to launch his political career. He made a name for himself back then by slandering his fellow soldiers. It isn't surprising that some of them resented it, and have called into question some of his assertions about his time in service--something they surely know more about than the posters here. They were there with him, after all.

There is a book called Dirty Politics written by Kathleen Hall Jamieson who is at the Annanberg Center for Public Policy. I believe the book was published in the early 90s after the Bush/Dukakis campaign and she details how they used the Willie Horton ad against Dukakis so successfully and the last effects. Willie Horton was actually William J. Horton and never had been known by the name Willie. It was the thugs who started called him "Willie" which was a known "name given to some black slaves by whites. These people are masters at destroying people and I don't see the dems wagering a good enough campaign to stop it.

I am hopeful, but it is going to take a huge voter turnout for Obama to win. I see some commenters think this is much ado about nothing and that the people are over it but I think they are a bit naive to say the least - or they are too young to remember.

For those of you who have not read the book Dirty Politics, I recommend it highly. It is an excellent read.

There you have it...the words of yet another Obama supporter trashing Hillary Clinton. And somehow, some people dare suggest that the Republicans are on a low road? At least McCain, in his long career in the military and in congress, has taken real and consistent actions in support and sacrifice for his country. Obama has made a lot of speeches, voted "present" to avoid taking a position, and hobnobbed with corrupt politicians on his meteoric rise to empty stardom. Think well...that's the guy you say will bring change you can believe in? Think again.

Obama has embarked on a journey of self-absorbed political ambition. He has no concept of service or sacrifice. He's part of the whining liberal socialist party (formerly known as Democrat) that defines success by the measure of its ability to control people's lives under the banner of "caring". It's an empty selfish venture to acquire and maintain power over other people...by definition, fascism. The only difference between Obama's liberal socialist party and the Nazi Party of the early 20th centruy is the absence of racial genocide; however, abortion is a form of genocide, so there's really no difference at all, one could argue.

Jeff:

I am not in the habit of getting into a dialogue in this type of forum, however if your question is an honest one, here are my thoughts.

I don't think McCain is the best and the brightest, but he's all we got. The real issue of this campaign is not one of personalities or even track records. Socialism is the only issue. Do we want to take a giant step toward it at the outcome of this presidential election?

I do not. I grew up in Capitalism and Democracy. The spiritual malaise of Socialism depresses. Socialism has never been able to feed its people, ie: USSR, China. But Socialism is what Obama is about.

Socialists in the media, our universities and the halls of government have been brilliant in presenting us with this candidate. He appeals to white guilt for the racial sins of our ancestors, and plays on our desire to show we are no longer prejudice against blacks. I for one do not need to elect a black president whose views I disagree with to prove to myself that I am not prejudice. I try to live fairness each day.

Although Obama is tremendously attractive with his intelligence, family, looks, etc., his heart is in the wrong place. He was programmed a long time ago, and will be used if he is elected.

I would have voted for Rice if she would have run.

I for one want dialog pertaining to the issues, not lies, distortions, character assasination and Paris/Britney.

McCain has a Stress Disorder which may explain his bad temper. He attempted SUICIDE when he was a POW.
He was known as "SongBird" for the estimated 32 Propaganda statements and clips he did for the North Vietnamese Communists.
He may have MOB ties thanks to his wife's father, John Hensley, and his ties with mobster Kemper Marley.
And last but not least, he has been referred to as the "Manchurian Candidate".

Swift Boaters sure know how to pick people of character. Unfortunately, its BAD CHARACTER.

Let me tell you a little about my family. I had two sons in the military. Both served multiple tours of duty in Iraq.

The older son was shot in 2006 by a sniper. After his hospitalization, he was encouraged to enter the reserves. His stint was up last month and he is now a full time college student. The discounted GI Bill pays around $1000 a month and his mother and I pay the rest. Just the tuition and fees for the state university he attends is more than $1200 a year. He cannot get medical insirance becasue of his lingering injuries and the military has washed their hands of him, so his mother and I pay for EVERYTHING. On Sunday evening, he had to go to the emergency room becasue of extreme pain in the kidney where he had been shot.

The younger son was riding in a Bradly when it was bown up by an IED. He suffered injuries to his spine, his left shoulder, face and leg. He was one of those vet's that was denied a visit by that sorry &$&@#+&!! commander, a McCain partisan, at the German hospital when Obama attempted to visit the injured troops there. Mr. Obama was kind enought to telephone those troops, however. That, in spite of the fact that that same commander did everything possible to prevent those calls. My son, the love of my life, is permanently damaged and disfigured.

The son of a friend who signed up with my sons was just released from that hospital and from the service. His entire lower face was blown off. He has no lower jaw. After some cursory and rather primative surgery to repair the worst of the damage, but NO cosmetic surgery, he was dischargeed from the Army. He wad been married when he entered the military. She left him. He is a nightmare to behold. Now, he has no medical insurance. The Army has washed their hands of him, just as with my older son and as will be with my younger son. That boy, 24 years old, is so profoundly disfigured that his life is likely over before it ever has begun. He is depressed and suicidal. His parents, just as with my wife and I, spend nights worrying, sick with dread, nearly bankrupt, our homes and everything we own hawked to try and come up with the money to pay for college and medical expenses, just to tryr and make a life for our children.

What I want EVERYONE to know is that thew Swift Boaters are nothing more than political hacks, nutcases, sunshine patriots waving their made in China flags, that don't give a damn about my sons or the sons of other veterans. The damage these swine do, the crude and demeaning message they send, the attempted use of our hero's, our precious children, is so awful that I would gladly see them and their families suffer as we have suffered. They do not deserve the attention they get. These cowards and swine should be ruthlessly weeded out. They are beneith contempt. They are subhuman vermin. It's time for the press to point this out.

Anyone who bases their vote on information from Swift Boaters or MoveOn.org is simply avoiding their responsibility.
An example of this is the Congressional vote on the Iraq war. Any politician who blames Bush for misleading them (to vote for the war) should be voted out of office. They were obviously too lazy to dig for the facts. A pitiful display for such an important vote.

The Swiftboat Veterans for Truth (SVT) was established for the purpose of exposing John Kerry’s highly embellished military record, to reveal the fabrications and exaggerations Kerry used to root around for medals, and expose the fake hero who premised his entire presidential campaign on the claim that he was the lone hero of Vietnam (everyone else who served there “personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, [blew] up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan…” –John Kerry 1971)

What “Sleuth” Mary Ann Akers doesn’t comprehend is that John O’Neill is not acting now as a representative of SVT. The problem is that she wants to raise the specter of SVT and not just that O’Neill is acting on his own. It doesn’t have the same raw power to drive liberals to distraction.

I would suggest the sleuthy Mary Ann check out the SVT website. On it she’ll find this:

“June 1, 2008 -- Swift Vets and POWs for Truth has formally disbanded and ceased all operations as of May 31, 2008. SwiftVets.com will continue to be maintained for historical purposes only by New American Media Online Services (NAMOS).”

And, just for the sake of accuracy, the following individuals were the Steering Committee of an organization that started out with about 200 members.

Rear Admiral Roy Hoffmann, USN (Ret.), Chairman
Captain Charley Plumly, USN (Ret.)
William E. Franke
Alvin A. Horne
Bill Lannom
John O'Neill
Weymouth Symmes, Treasurer”

And, Jerome Corsi was not a Swift Boat veteran, but the coauthor with O’Neill of “Unfit for Command.”

“They're Baaaack... Swift Boat Veterans Take Aim At Obama. Just as they sought to destroy John Kerry in 2004, the founders of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth group are aiming their guns at this season's presumptive Democratic presidential candidate. But unlike four years ago, when the Swifties spent millions to discredit Kerry, their hit on Barack Obama so far hasn't cost them a dime.”

Given the use of “they’re, they, their, and them,” perhaps the very sleuthy Mary Ann can point out any SVT representatives attacking Obama.

And, by the way, not a single charge laid by the SVT has been disproved though Kerry’s operatives continue their effort to employ smoke and mirrors to distract attention from the established facts. And, the only person who has had to revise, correct, or otherwise back off of Kerry’s claims of grand heroics and bold deeds is John Kerry.

Even fawning Kerry biographer Douglas Brinkley, who relied almost entirely on Kerry’s fantasized versions of his tour of duty, admitted in late 2004, that Americans “know that John Kerry was not the war hero we thought he was.”

Before the oh so sleuthy Mary Ann continues to flap away on SVT, perhaps she should do a little homework. It’s fair to say that O’Neill, was a member of the disbanded SVT, and has gone on to criticize Obama, but suggesting the SVT, in any form, is attacking Obama is just plain stupid, and it’s false. But, being a WaPo blogger doesn’t mean you have to be accurate…

The new projections, published in the journal Obesity, are based on government survey data collected between the 1970s and 2004.

If the trends of those years continue, the researchers estimate that 86 percent of American adults will be overweight by 2030, with an obesity rate of 51 percent. By 2048, all U.S. adults could be at least mildly overweight.

Weight problems will be most acute among African-Americans and Mexican- Americans, the study projects. All black women could be overweight by 2034, according to the researchers, as could more than 90 percent of Mexican-American men.

So much for hunger in America......almost everyone is overweight!

Where have all the real men gone?

Top American columnist Kathleen Parker is causing a furore with her new book Save the Males, in which she argues that feminism has neutered men and deprived them of their noble, protective role in society

I know. Saving the males is an unlikely vocation for a 21st-century woman. Most men don’t know they need saving; most women consider the idea absurd. When I tell my women friends that I want to save the males, they look at me as if noticing for the first time that I am insane. Then they say something like: “Are you out of your mind? This is still a male-dominated world. It’s women who need saving. Screw the men!”

9. All Republicans in Congress voted to release government records of POW/MIA on Vietnam, only 1 person blocked it, Old Fart Songbird Traitor McBush. Why did he want those records sealed?
10. Wouldn't the Navy wash his records? His father and grandfather were both 4 star admirals in the Navy.

12. How did he get 28 medals in less than 20 hours of combat? Did his 4 star admiral daddy give him medals he did not deserve? Some grunts fighting on the ground for 7000 hours received no medals

19. Immediately, upon returning he started having sexual affairs while still married with 2 kids, gold digging until he snagged rich Cindy whose daddy owned the 2nd largest Budweiser distributorship.
20. Why does he want to stay in Iraq forever? Research his Lobbyists and their clients, especially, Rick Davis and Charle Black.
21. Some Vietnam Vets believe he is the Manchurian Candidate, do some research on that.
22. Why does Old McAdulterer refuse to deny if he committed adultery while married to Cindy. We know he did with Carol, his first wife.
23. Why does Old McWomanizer refuse to deny whether he had sexual relations with Lobbyist Vicki Iseman
24. Why did he oppose the Boeing Air Force Tanker deal in favor of EADS? Did his Campaign Manager, Lobbyist Rick Davis and National Co-Chairman Lobbyist Tom Loeffler (both hired by EADS) affect Old McCorrupt's decison?
25. Did Campaign Manager, Lobbyist Rick Davis client Russian aluminum magnate Oleg Deripaska influence Old McCorrupt after hosting his 70th birthday on his yacht in the Adriatic Sea complete with prostitutes? Deripaska supplies EADS with aluminum and does significant business with Iranians.

The Swift Boaters learn their craft from their hero, Josef Gobbles. Old Joe is the one who develop the idea of the "big lie." One tells a lie so big it just couldn't be true. Then tell it often enough that people begin to think "well, maybe it is true, no one would tell a lie that big and so easy to disprove."

To Emily Heyer,
like most people who think they know what Kerry "said" about Viet Nam Vets, you are wrong. Kerry never said Vets were doing anything but dying in Viet Nam. During the Winter Soldier hearings he DID say that he had be told by other vets that they had done the things he mentioned. He was only relaying what other vets had said they did in Viet Nam

As a businessman, I just don’t get “Ole” men like this who’ve supposedly sacrificed for this country…once-presumably! Purely as a function of a basic cost/benefits analytical matrix, I ask you: what exactly has this pack of wolves gained thus far...specifically during the course of the past eight years of the Bush/Cheney disgrace, to once again trade their honor and the integrity of the strips they wore to once again attempt detail-“Bamboozle,” our nation out of a yet another legitimate presidential candidate? Old, disgraced, and likely financially bankrupt to their push in 2004 to get George Bush elected, they've learned nothing from the past eight years...not a damn thing! It not a forgone conclusion, given at their age neither has anything to lose-given if this country gone the way of Mexico City; most of these "frat boys" will invariably be dead-and-gone when the Saudi’s and China call in their $10-trillion dollar markers owed to their boy George...one with absolutely no relation to our founding father, and one of 42 president who took 240-years to run up a $1-trillion dollar tab interesting enough! But I’m sure the vast majority of this group on shares in all these defense contractors and oil companies who are profiting from the spilled blood of the kids, sibling, and spouses of their fellow Americans. How is it that this gang...given the odious-record of this our last president for whom their antics begot America disastrously, come once again neck-high in bull-dong as if they have an ounce of credibility. More than 4000 of their-one would assume, erstwhile fallen comrades dead-and-buried by this contrivance posing as President...and these damn fools still can't phantom the error of their ways? God, how could any of them walk across Arlington or any veterans’ cemetery without vomiting! I'm not a mean-spirited person, but this group...the "Swiftboaters Veterans," I don't think God could call either of them home soon enough-for the sake of this country "once again" as a result of their effort attempting to cheat our nation out of an effective, intelligent, honest, and "for-the-people's" American Presidents: Al Gore in 2000….Sen. /Vet. John Kerry. Sen. John McCain...if the roll-out of either of his latest campaign ads and antics are a litmus test, will only perpetuate the regressive/repressive “Old Aged" mindset of this antiquate group of dishonorable malcontents and morons. Can America afford either four or eight more years of yet another Bush/Cheney Ideologue? Hell no! For a twenty-first century with twenty-first century Globalist problems and ambitions, America is in dire need of a twenty-first century “young”-“New Jack,” President from here to eternity: Sen. Barack Obama. We can either turn-the-page on George Bush chapter in American history on Nov. 4th, 2008, are start a new narrative of yet another nightmarish, disaster-prone, saber-rattling, war-mongering, computer-illiterate, and virally-incompetent two-term administration over again to page one with an alternative even more worse than Bush/Cheney: Sen. John McCain. Only, at the end of this chapter, America as we knew it once would have long ceased to be on the global stage!

How's this for a narrative?

Johnny "Skywalker" McSame, son and grandson of Admirals (lots to live up to there!) grows up as callow youth in militarist family. Skywalker McSame follows into the paternal family business...killing our enemies and careerism.

Callow youth gets into USNA on his family connections over more qualified nobodies. Skywalker makes it through....barely..graduating virtually at the bottom of his class. Lots of beer drinking and "tailhooking".

War comes! Yeaah! Chance to make rank!!

Top Gun Skywalker flies high and fast in his silver space ship dropping bombs on cities and rice paddies! Kill the commie gooks!

Oops!! Primitive 3rd worlders shoot down our hero!! Treat him like the dirt bag he is.....they didn't kill him...which is more than he would have done for them.

Our hero comes home!! Gets warm welcome (more than the rest of those GIs got)!

Skywalker dumps first wife who has waited for his sorry ass for 5+ years. She has a limp now from an auto accident....not the hottie she used to be.

Skywalker marries tall svelte blond beer heiress rich girl...more in keeping with his status as Skywalker "hero"!

Now 70...what as our hero learned?

Nothing. Still mouths the empty banalities of a militarist...."victory", "honor", "glory", "patriotism"...

Meanwhile in Washington we have built a black wall where we of course "honor" 58,000+ souls.

Today I look at the numerous American companies manufacturing in Vietnam, taking advantage of that cheap labor and the lack of labor unions. Cheaper than China!!

Three and a half years ago I bought a bedroom set at a well known furniture outlet. Recently I had a reason to move it. Marked on the back ... "Made in Vietnam".

Those 58,000 souls died for nothing.

Still Skywalker and old Vets like him (who still live by the way)spout "bring the troops home with honor". Heard it before? Nixon perhaps? Usually means someone else's kid will have to die for an empty slogan.

Kids used to be drafted off the streets, trained for 3 or 4 months and sent to a jungle to "fight commies".

Too many of them died too far away from home for far too little. There is no "honor" in that.

Skywalker has learned nothing in 70 years. He's a cranky old guy who gets people kille with his policies. All he needs is the funny vet hat.

P.S. I served, 11/63 - 11/67, as did my brother.

Thank God for the Swift Boat Team. They served well in Vietnam and they served us well again in preventing Kerry (false warrior) from getting elected. Kerry was nothing more than a hippy radical.

This threat from the left is even more serious. Obama is a do nothing that has never done anything. He is a racist and a bigot. Anyone that votes for him is doing it because he is a Black man and they think it might be cool to make history.

Does Obama have any one close to him that is not a radical flaming liberal.

Yeah Buddy, Communism is the epitome of the American Way of Life. As I recall, this Republican Administration has imposed its power on the American People by having Government stick its nose in every aspect of one's life. The facts say that when the Power Hungry NEOCONS had control of Congress, we saw government control grow at a alarming rate. Communism has the same goal. Rather than reading and examining information, they would rather believe the "BULL" someone tells them. I guess these people would rather see a continuation of Georgey's inept policies. However articulate Mr. Obama may be, he is untested. He is still in his first term as a U.S. senator, and if we subtract the time he has spent on the road running for president his total experience inside the Senate adds up to less than 180 days.

Yeah. This is someone equipped to be president. A few photo ops overseas showing how impressive you can look to the world does not a president make. This is the best the democrats could produce for a candidate. Pathetic.

But on the other hand has anyone ever tried to write about George The Lesser and his heroic defense on the Gulf coast against Vietnamese aircraft carriers, troop ships, submarines and the like? No, because no one funded truth. Anyone criticizing the Moron-in-chief got axed at their newspaper or TV network. Probably a little hint from Cheney and all the execs lined up to give the salute. How about the following (though, regrettably, quite futile) slogan: "Vote AFTER doing your homework and doing some serious thinking about the real issues while ignoring the vile Swift-boaters AND the glazed-eyed Obamabots . . ." Oh, I get it, it doesn't work as a slogan because it doesn't reduce an idea to a catchy, memorable absurdity. What was I thinking?

Dan Cusiter wrote: "Anyone that votes for him [Obama] is doing it because he is a Black man and they think it might be cool to make history."

Mr. Cusiter presumes to know my motivations and reasons for supporting Obama. His presumption is incredible and obnoxious. Such a statement is quite obviously completely intellectually bankrupt.

But enough about the contemptible Mr. Cusiter. I don't give a who-rang-diddly-damn about Obama's race (for the record, it's mixed . . .) OR about making history. I will vote for Obama so that the next "history" we make will be better than the "history" of the last eight years. I will vote for Obama because voting to continue Republican greed and incompetence is the most counterproductive thing I could do.

That said, I urge Obama supporters NOT to resort to making statements of the Cusiter-style "paint-them-all-with-the-same-brush" idiocy. Not all McCain supporters are racist, or fascist, or . . . . Seems that we have only just touched the surface of the murky pool of lies that have been told time and time again. As for the military having respect for W, all I can say is...I have too much respect for those proudly serving our country (even with all of it's embarrassing behavior!) to say anything bad about them. If they have believe that our government has their best interests in mind, then there's nothing I can say to change that. I, however believe that the current WH sees our military as pawns in their little game of global power, money and domination. Despicable acts that are absolutely disgusting.

Another tour of duty, if they make it out safely the first time. Cripping medical bills, if they are not fortunate enough to make it out safely. Essentially, nothing. All too often our military and families are forgotten, overlooked while too many people try and point the finger of blame at someone else. Everyday, lives are impacted-for better or (more often) for worse, and everyday the fatcats sit back and look at someone else to blame, more "evidence" to concoct to justify their behavior, rather than to take a few minutes to acknowledge the impact these actions are having on our soldiers and their families.

George W Bush only experience prior to becoming President was business failure and bailout by daddy and his rich friends. So who's going to bail us out of this mess now? McCain no!

Copied from Wikipedia.

After four years in New York City, Obama moved to Chicago to work as a community organizer for three years from June 1985 to May 1988 as director of the Developing Communities Project (DCP), a church-based community organization originally comprising eight Catholic parishes in Greater Roseland (Roseland, West Pullman, and Riverdale) on Chicago's far South Side.[11][13] During his three years as the DCP's director, its staff grew from 1 to 13 and its annual budget grew from $70,000 to $400,000, with accomplishments including helping set up a job training program, a college preparatory tutoring program, and a tenants' rights organization in Altgeld Gardens.[14] Obama also worked as a consultant and instructor for the Gamaliel Foundation, a community organizing institute.[15] In mid-1988, he traveled for the first time to Europe for three weeks then Kenya for five weeks where he met many of his Kenyan relatives for the first time.[16]

Obama entered Harvard Law School in late 1988 and at the end of his first year was selected as an editor of the Harvard Law Review based on his grades and a writing competition.[17] In his second year he was elected president of the Law Review, a full-time volunteer position functioning as editor-in-chief and supervising the law review's staff of 80 editors.[18] Obama's election in February 1990 as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review was widely reported and followed by several long, detailed profiles.[18] He graduated with a J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard in 1991 and returned to Chicago where he had worked as a summer associate at the law firms of Sidley & Austin in 1989 and Hopkins & Sutter in 1990.[17][19]

Ahhhh, yes... the people lots of Republicans are proud of for the job they did on Kerry in 2004. There's your Republican Value System these days: lying is OK as long as you get what you want.

George Bush isn't solely responsible for trashing the GOP brand, individual Republicans are.

I'm very much an Independent voter but after the events of the 2004 campaign and these last 7.5 years where Mr. Bush has gotten a PASS from his own party members for his wrongdoing, I may never vote for a GOP candidate again in my life.

The Bush boys did a job on McCain in the 2000 primaries, saying he fathered an illigitame black baby. They have at the head of their party a five-deferment chicken who had "higher priorities than military service" and a party coke-sniffer who never got shot at and yet they have the nerve to call themselves patriots.
Karl Rove must be proud.

Are these people going to claim that Barack Obama didn't serve with honor in Vietnam? What "truth" are these guys going to claim that they have special knowledge of?

Anyway, no ‘swiftboating’ of Barack Obama will be necessary this year.

All that Republicans have to do - and all that those Democrats who have not forgotten core principles of democracy have to do - is remind the public regularly about exactly what Barack Obama really is:

an unknown, inexperienced and unprincipled rhetorician without a record.

This year America faces an economic resession, a foreclosure crisis in the real estate market, a $10 trillion national debt, a $500+ billion budget deficit, failing banks, 47+ million Americans without health insurance, gas prices around $4 a gallon, and two wars. We have a choice between two candidates, Mr. Obama who we don't know much about but based on his campaign's operation, is a very good administrator, very intelligent, and a good strategic thinker. Or, Mr McCain, a man by his own admission doesn't understand economics, did poorly in school, and a son of privilege who had never had to work for any think he got. Its your choice America. Choose wisely your future rests in your choice.

What's this nonsense about Obama's being a liberal? Of course, he is. To be a conservative is to maintain the status quo, to conserve. Consequently, on the one side we have those who would be willing to maintain the same old disastrous policies and actions. To be liberal is to favor formulas for change. CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN.

he was actually born in america and is therefore eligible to run for president. if mcain is elected and alowed to take ofice by the supreme court what is stopping me (irishborn) or any mexican, pole or iraqi from standing and taking the presidency? unless of course its a ploy to allow arnie to enter in 2012! he has ben trying to get the law changed perhaps this is the ultimate republican conspiracy.

Calling Senator Obama a liberal is not accurate enough. He is not a liberal in the true sense of the word. He is a socialist. Soem of his fasvorite must have been the Communist Manifesto. With the power he expects to gain by becoming president it is entirely likely he has not thoroughly read the United States Constitution as the definition of reading indicates the person understands themeaning of what he has just read.

Senator Obama's stated opinions and policies indicate he will strive to have the federal government take over, Nationalize, key segments of our companies. Several legislators - Democrats - have suggested nationalizing refineries. Senator Obama wants to nationalize healthcare insurance. Another legislator wants the government to nationalize key financial institutions - Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. These are plans only a socialist would be proud to recommend. I Senator Obama is elected president the only people who will have a big smile on their faces will be our enemies.

A vote for any Democrat is a vote for a socialist system of government. We can then replace the Statue of Liberty with a sign that reads "Welcome to the United Socialist States of America."

Go ahead argue your point. whay you say makes no difference tome as I know I am correct. All of you people out there waiting for the governemnt to do something for you have a rude awakening. I ampart of that government. I vote. I work. I pay my own way. I have nointention of ever paying your way or taking care of your children. Get a job and work to achieve your part of the American Dream. That si what the rest of us have done.

Well, "The Obama Nation" made it to the #1 of the Non Fictopm New York Times Best Seller List,

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/17/books/bestseller/besthardnonfiction.html

The book says very serious things about Obama. Is this going to be a re-edition of the Edwards story, ie, the media is going to remain shut until Obama has been destroyed?

They're Baaaack... Swift Boat Veterans Take Aim At Obama

Obama has stolen the limelight, now the media is trying to recover it through lies and deception. Now that is a no no and part of the reason that our country is in such a mess now, lies and deception. Come on people, get a life. What those swifters need to do is help construct a possible attribute to our declining country as have Obama. Obama 08!

Before attacking the Swifties people should read the book. I believe they raise some valid questions. Why is it necessary to call name's and demean those you disagree with.I was there and did not see the things John Kerry say's He did,I'm not calling him a liar I just did not witness what He is reported to have seen. The premise that He was wounded 3 times in 4 months without any substantial injury is odd. The swifties are entiteled to speak their piece. Many of us feel we were treated badly when we came home, I think that many of those that are now saying we support the troops but not the mission are the same group that accosted me in the airports and called me vile names(supporting the troops). The rub for Viet. Vets is the congressional testimony of Kerry, much of which came from "winter soldier",many of those stories from "winter soldier" came from "fake GI's". While atrocities happen in every war John Kerry portrayed to the american public that it was wide spread and systemic. I believe this was done to advance his career without any regard for those it hurt. I personally will never be able to forgive John Kerry. To the woman whose husband has the Purple Heart tell him I for one am proud of him, I'll bet he
shed some blood for his.

Wow, the book's really hit a nerve. I have read both of Obama's books and The Obama Nation. The Obama Nation actually gave me references to aid me in my research. Obama's did not. I suppose because the books are selling and cause one to question Obama that is the reason for your article. It would have been nice if the media had done it's job. Let's see you sat on the John Edward's story for how long. And liberal blogs shut down any posting about Edward's affair. You have no problem with Moveon a 527 and it's ads. Well you should have no problem with Swift Boat Vet's and their opinion. Everyone has an opinion just like everyone has a vote. Looking at both sides of the coin is a good thing it allows one to make a more informed choice. How you vote is your choice.

Why is it the electorate plays into the hands of the politicians every four years. Over, and over, and over again. Stop just one moment, breathe, again, okay calm and center. Try, I mean put some effort in doing something different, you have never done before. Turn the television OFF! Look beyond your network news, newpaper, AM radio talk shows, and all usual sources for information you want to hear. Open your mind just a bit to the point of discomfort and seek information from somewhere other than your usual sources, listen, rationalize, use logic, common sense, anything other than the usual partisan, finger pointing, blame game, we have been trained, even brainwashed so well by our broken political system and the politicians who practice the devisive tactics that devide and conquer all of (no matter what party affiliation) us every election. We go through the same motions yet expect differnet results. People quit attacking your neighbor, take a good look around you, pay attention, honestly acess what is fact, fiction, rhetoric, political shennanigans which may further your particular affiliation; however, is of no beneficial value to you(r) family, peers, etc. When you discard all the lables, finger pointing, and convenient mistruths we are more alike than you might have thought. We are all being duped while 20 percent of our population continues to vote for representaties who are all bought and paid for by the owners of this government and right after the election they go to work for them while most likely laughing at how ignorant we all are to what is really going on. Soon, they will have hacked the Constitution and Bill of Rights to death and will no longer have to go on with the charade. We will either continue to do nothing, go along with the program, or be done away with. We have been groomed to live and die to be good little professional consumers, until they have milked every last penny out of each and everyone of us, our country, until we breath our last breath of air. Unless, we wake up, think for ourselves, and join together to take our government back and hold accountable those who have sold us out, betrayed our trust, and left us holding the bag while they have used their influence to buy their political office and their position to better themselves financially. All the while we say and do nothing and continue to turn over major portions of our income while getting nothing in return. We hold more power than we know just by tightening the purse strings. Just one back to school season, one Christmas (Hannukah, Kwanza, etc.) season, one tax year, a little ingenuity and solidarity amongst us all would be more than enough to get the attention of those who have thrown us over board over 30 years ago. Then we clean house, get back to basics, and attempt to regain quality of life we once knew, before the greedy little bastards destroy what little crediblity we have left.

The coward swifties (closet cross dressers) may have served in Nam, but that don't make them brave or heroes. I see them as cowards who probably lied about their actions in Nam. While they served well behind enemy lines hiding under their desks at the sound of a broken bottle they wrote of their heroics of taking on the enemy in hand to hand combat. What really sickens me is how most Nam vets are republican supporters. Most were forced to serve by the draft and by the looks of a lot of them bikers, long hair and beards were probably dope smokers and partiers. Not exactly the type the republicans invite to their homes. Republicans have worked very hard for vets in terms of cutting VA funding, denying Agent Orange caused any harmful effects and stating the PTSD is just a mental condition made up by liberal doctors. I hate the republicans. I read every day of their policies and lies. I support Obama 1,000,000,000 percent. John McCain is old and dying; so be sure to look at his running mate as the future president if he we elected. Of course that will not happen, because even the coward swifties in their panties and skirts will not be able to deceive enough Americans into voting for old Johnny over Barrack Obama - a man for change in the right direction!

The RBO has a few holes in his own books, these two books and the new book by Andy Martin do give more information about the real Barack and just how he developed from the influence of all those mentors.

These books give a greater understanding and details of his associations, associates, the whys and how did this happen. Truth has a way of coming out...and these books do not even tell you about his COLB problem and other little truths that are so inconvenient as he attempts to win the nomination.

As someone younger than I would say...s___ks to be him.

I am bemused that some consider "liberal" a perjorative term. I am a child of the Great Depression. It was liberals who enabled that entire generation to lift itself from poverty to the middle class through such legislation as the Wagner Act, the GI Bill, Social Security, FHA and too many others to list here. Earlier in our history it was liberals who gave us those great political documents, the United States Constitution. and the Bill of Rights. I don't know where these cconservatives have been. Perjorative? To call one a liberal is a great compliment.

The problem with most people, grasping the full impact, of what combat vets. actually endured, for someone like myself understandable. I am a VietNam vet. I had nightmares for 23 years, I considered myself blessed in 1992, when they finally stopped.
I don't know of anyone that hates war more than I, but I would be the first one to go back into combat to save my God and country. I know that may sound insane to some, but to those of us, who truly love our God and Country, it's just a "matter fact" to the way we think. The swift Boat Vet's, are not going to go away, because there are some that are uncomfortable with what they say. True Vets are going to speak our minds, no matter what ANYONE thinks or says.
Kerry lost the debate with them because "he" was the one that was not telling the truth. The truth always comes through all the lies. My mother use to say, "you have to have a very good memory to tell a lie, because you will have to tell so many more lies to cover up the first one." We all learned one thing, about Kerry in his run for Presidency, he really wasn't that smart.
Did President Bush do what he promised? Afraid not. There are others that are as guilty as he. Lets not forget, that our congress had a great deal to do, with the way things turned out during his Presidency. He also had the "Clinton" mess to clean up, and sort through. Lets be fair here, and lay blame at the feet of those who are really to blame. "We the American People", we are to blame. We become complacent, and think the next guy will take up the slack that we create.
Well this is a wake up call!!!!!!
Think about it, how many times did you hear after the VietNam War, that the United States would never get into a war like that again? We would never let the congress run a war from Washington that the Generals should run. Guess what? Congress doesn't like what the Gen. telling them, get rid of him, put someone else in there.
Just look at the world right now, now look up the history of the world prior to WWII. Everything is in place for the beginning of the end.
Am I ready to hand over the keys to the white house to some one like Obama, no. I'm not sure that McCain is the right answer either. We had better pay close attention to what is happening throughout the world. Hope that who ever gets the job picks a really good Vice President.
We better start to secure the boarders of our nation, and get ready to defend them. Defend them from the "the enemy within" as well.
God Save America.

Our political commentary has degenerated into hating of the opposition candidate and his supporters. America deserves a debate on the issues of the day, not the smears and hatred of the lazy. I will vote for McCain, not because I hate Obama but because I don't want the country moving even further towards Socialism. While I may question Obama's judgement because of some of his lifelong personal associations, he seems like a decent intelligent person and he might make a very good President. When you'r voting based on single issues like abortion, taxes, religon or race you know that your issue will only get to so many voters and you probably already have them in your corner. so you need other talking points and you will notice that many of these make very little sense. They don't need to.

I have been saying it for months; it's gonna be McCain with 40 states when all is said and done. Osama Obama can fool some of the people all of the time, but not all of them for long enough to get elected. Is it swift boating to wonder why Obama returned from 2 weeks in Pakistan and "found Jesus," joining Rev Wrights parish. I still believe the guy is a plant by Muslim extremists, planted here 20+ yrs ago. Every now and then he slips, misses a photo op, or grabs for the wrong phrase. The guy is a total phony.

Is it Swift Boating to want to know how Obama became a millionaire? At least McCain married his! When 20 something Obama was doing crack, 20 someting McCain was flying jets and fighting a war, captured, tortured, acting in the most honorable way.

Although members of the "swift boating" gang are involved in these attacks do not necessaeily make them false or true. However, in Mr. Corsi's book almost all of the charges against Mr. Obama are referenced and readers could go the web site adresses to verify that the words, especially of Mr. Obama, that are used to condemn him are true. Readers could also purchase Mr. Obama's books to verify the statements and allegations of Mr. Corsi.

If only a small percentage of the claims of Mr. Corsi are true, then his assessment that Mr. Obama is not fit to be President would be true.

It appears that part of the problem was CNN's report that they had checked out the claims about Obama attending a Muslim madrassa which was false, but he did attend a Muslim school, as a Muslim child. Mr. Corsi uses, statements from Mr. Obama's own books to suggest that he did attend a Muslim school and he wrote of his teacher writing to tell his mother that he made faces during Koranic studies. The author also references an article by Nicholas D. Kristof in the N.Y. Times of March 06/07 about Obama's recitation of the call to prayer, which Mr. Obama said was "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset"

Actually, I believe there were two instances in which the media became accomplices to Mr. Obama's unreal tale about himself (his "fairy tale", as Mr. Clinton termed it). In the S. Carolina debate, when Senator Clinton accused Mr.Obama of representing his contributor, Mr. Rezko, in "his slum landlord business in inner-city Chicago", Mr. Obama replied that she was speaking about some 6 hrs of work that he had done for the law firm representing Mr. Rezko. The media did not challenge this statement, which was ovbviously false as it had already been reported that Mr. Rezko had assisted Mr. Obama with the purchase of his Chicago home. But Mr. Rezko helped to get Mr. Obama to Chicago while he wwas still studying law and Mr. Obama finally admitted that he had a 17 year association with Mr. Rezko. I submit that it is easier for the mind to play tricks that would cause someone to "mis-remember an incident about shooting at an airfield when it was necessary to wear bullet proof vests and fly in a particular plane to avoid shots that may have been fired, than to mis-remember that you have known a friend abd contributor to your campaigns for 17 years. The author devotes an entire chapter to Mr. Obama's long association with Mr. Rezko and provides several references.

I do not think that one needs to read Mr. Corsi's book to realize that Mr. Obama's statement in 2004 about not knowing how he would have voted in 2002 on the Iraq war, had he been in the Senate, proved that he recognized that access to the intelligence would be necessary for such a decision. Yet, he did not have access to the intelligence, or any proven evidence in 2002 when he expressed his opinion which he passed off, with the help of the media, as sound judgment. If Mr. Obama had judged in 2002 that the Iraq war was wrong-headed, he should have had no problem stating that had he been in the senate, he would have voted against the war. Thus his major claim towards becoming President, that he was correct on the war and showed good judgment that qualified as presidential is a false hood--it was and still is a "fairy tale", and there is nothing wrong with a fairy tale once it is known to be exactly that.

Mr. Corsi's work and any other material that casts doubt on Mr. Obama's qualifications to be president should be judged by the facts, not by opinions made without access to the evidence.

The saddest implicit commentary is that so many of us are willing to accept what others allege without careful examination, analysis or reflection. Even if we should find deliberate misstatements in other's allegations, we do nothing about it. Why is there not a groundswell of indignations against irresponsible or deliberately injurious misstatements?

Sigh--because people WILLINGLY want to believe it. Basically, these people weren't going to vote for Obama in the first place, no matter what he does. "He's this. He's that, and that's all I see. He's not getting my vote."

If I may advise you, it's best, Mr. Chu, that you NOT worry about what some of these people say. You'll give yourself a headache. If you plan to vote for Obama, just go on ahead and do so. If not, then vote for someone else.

I hate to say it but these people are militant. When Obama wins. And win he shall. The radicals are going to come out of the wood works. I hope Obama can withstand the barage of attacks and attempts on his life because of some white people who are afraid this black man will get in office and show how a country is really suppose to work. Obama08!!!!

Four years ago, the "Swift Boaters for Truth" turned the word "Swift Boat" into a synonym for "manure". Now they're back again to bring more disgrace to that name. I feel sorry for American veterans who served with courage and valor on Swift Boats during the Viet Nam War who are watching in horror as the the heroic name of "Swift Boat" is being turned into a 21st century word for "dung." Talk about rats leaving a sinking ship. In this case, the rats are sinking the ships. Too bad, fellas, that you had to serve in a military unit with rats like these.

Before these conservatives malign Obama perhaps they should teach their candidate some manners! Altho the press gave him a pass on his calling his wife the "C" word in front of them, the Huffington Post did not. I have only read that word in 50's mysteries.

Just proves, you don't have to actually live in a trailer to act like "trailer trash". And I am sure some trailer dwellers are better bred and wouldn't dream of doing such a thing.

So when is the press going to go over the life story of this cockroach Corsi with a microscope?

It seems that some people don't like facts and prefer political fantasies. And, like the Sleuth, are apparently too lazy, ignorant, and/or comfortable in their bias to actually read relevent material. Reading takes effort, spewing profanities or name-calling is a lot easier and doesn't require any intelligence.

For everyone else, I'd recommend the more recent "To Set the Record Straight" by Scott Swett and Tim Zeigler as a heavily sourced and footnoted expose of Kerry's fabrications and exaggerations. Together with "Unfit for Duty" by John O'Neill and Jerome Corsi it's a well-documented case against the Kerry fantasies. But I would also recommend the fawning "Tour of Duty" by Douglas Brinkley as it unintentionally hurts Kerry by helping demonstrate that Kerry has problems keeping his stories straight. And, though initially a sycophant, Douglas Brinkley, who relied almost entirely on Kerry’s fantasized versions of his tour of duty, admitted in late 2004, that Americans “know that John Kerry was not the war hero we thought he was.” And Kerry’s tales in “Tour of Duty” don’t always match the yarns he spun in “John F. Kerry” by Boston Globe reporter Michael Kranish and others.

And, once again for those, like the Sleuth, who can’t comprehend basic facts:

“JUNE 1, 2008 -- SWIFT VETS AND POWS FOR TRUTH HAS FORMALLY DISBANDED AND CEASED ALL OPERATIONS AS OF MAY 31, 2008. SWIFTVETS.COM WILL CONTINUE TO BE MAINTAINED FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES ONLY BY NEW AMERICAN MEDIA ONLINE SERVICE (NAMOS).” --SBVT website

And John O’Neill made it clear in his solicitation for Corsi’s new book that his was a “PERSONAL NOTE”

Claiming that O’Neill actively represents the SBVT is like claiming that Joe Lieberman represents the Democrats.

The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (SBVT) was established for the purpose of exposing John Kerry’s highly embellished military record, to reveal the fabrications and exaggerations Kerry used to root around for medals, and expose the fake hero who premised his entire presidential campaign on the claim that he was the lone hero of Vietnam (everyone else who served there “personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, [blew] up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan…” –John Kerry 1971)

I would suggest the sleuthy Mary Ann check out the SBVT website. On it she’ll find this:

“June 1, 2008 -- Swift Vets and POWs for Truth has formally disbanded and ceased all operations as of May 31, 2008. SwiftVets.com will continue to be maintained for historical purposes only by New American Media Online Services (NAMOS).”

Given the use of “they’re, they, their, and them,” perhaps the very sleuthy Mary Ann can point out any actual SBVT representatives attacking Obama.

And, by the way, not a single charge laid by the SBVT has been disproved though Kerry’s operatives continue their effort to employ smoke and mirrors to distract attention from the established facts. And, the only person who has had to revise, correct, or otherwise back off of Kerry’s claims of grand heroics and bold deeds is John Kerry.

Before the oh so sleuthy Mary Ann continues to flap away on SBVT, perhaps she should do a little homework, as suggesting the SBVT, in any form, is attacking Obama is just false. But, being a WaPo blogger doesn’t mean you have to be accurate…

G Khan, you need to get your info someplace besides wingnut chatrooms.

I have read that ridiculous screed called "To Set the Record Straight." It is nothing more than cut and pastes of outdated and disproved wingnut talking points from 2004. It's like they didn't even bother to run a quick Google search on some of those stories.

Oh, and the O'Neill book was "Unfit for Command," not "Unfit for Duty." And of course it has been exposed as nothing more than a collection of lies, innuendo and just plain bad information put together by the likes of Scott Swett, and cut and pastes from Jerry Corsi's online wingnut screeds.

Oh, and as to your Douglas Brinkley quote, I suggest you do your own Google search, little buddy:

"A story in the September 24 New York Times leaves the false impression that I think John Kerry was not ‘the war hero we thought he was.’ Nothing could be further from the truth. He was a great American fighting man in Vietnam and deserved all of his medals. Over the past year I have vigorously defended Kerry’s military record and will continue to do so.

"My comment was meant to be about the political consequences of the anti-Kerry Swift boat attacks vs. the anti-Bush National Guard ones. I was speaking about public perceptions not my personal beliefs."

http://www.allbusiness.com/services/business-services-miscellaneous-business/4705766-1.html

Oh, and as to this claim of yours:

"And, Jerome Corsi was not a Swift Boat veteran, but the coauthor with O’Neill of 'Unfit for Command.' "

Has John O'Neill backtracked on his repeated claims in 2004 (after Corsi's bigoted freeper postings came out) that Corsi really "wasn't any sort of coauthor" of the book? Cite please?

And how about this whopper:

"And, by the way, not a single charge laid by the SBVT has been disproved."

Wrong.

http://homepage.mac.com/chinesemac/kerry_medals/truth.html

Now how about you show a single substantive claim they made about Kerry's military service that's been proven TRUE?

Be specific.

"The question now before voters, however, is whether we want to make an affirmative action hire for our president, commander in chief, and leader of the Free World."

Unlike the legacy hire you made in 2000?

----------------

"However articulate Mr. Obama may be, he is untested."

Obama has held public office for 12 years. Which is TWICE AS LONG as the man you voted for in 2000.

------------------------

"Yeah. This is someone equipped to be president. A few photo ops overseas showing how impressive you can look to the world does not a president make. This is the best the democrats could produce for a candidate. Pathetic."

See above.

Of course, it helps as we've now learned that John McSame was not in the "Cone of Silence", but riding in a motorcade to the building where the "Forum" was being held, while Sen. Barack Obama was being questioned. And, during that period of time, there was nothing that prevented John McSame from hearing the questions being asked of Sen. Obama and Sen. Obama's answers thereto. Do I think John McSame "cheated", you bet I do.

Specifically, we learn from the NYT: Before an audience of more than 2,000 people at the church, the candidates answered questions about policy and social issues.

Mr. Warren, the pastor of Saddleback, had assured the audience while he was interviewing Mr. Obama that “we have safely placed Senator McCain in a cone of silence” and that he could not hear the questions.

After Mr. Obama’s interview, he was joined briefly by Mr. McCain, and the candidates shook hands and embraced.

Mr. Warren started by asking Mr. McCain, “Now, my first question: Was the cone of silence comfortable that you were in just now?”

Mr. McCain deadpanned, “I was trying to hear through the wall.”

Interviewed Sunday on CNN, Mr. Warren seemed surprised to learn that Mr. McCain was not in the building during the Obama interview.
