He Scoops, He Scores!
The Washington Nationals inked a deal with local ice cream chain Gifford's Ice Cream and Candy to serve sweet treats at the team's new ballpark through 2011.
The chain, which opened its first store in Silver Spring, Md., in 1938 will have a branded concession stand on the main concourse.
The ice cream business is also creating the "Dinger," a vanilla ice cream and chocolate cookie sandwich to be sold throughout the ballpark. A portion of the sale of each confection will be donated to the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation. The foundation has committed to building a diabetes pediatric care center and a baseball academy.
The company has four stores throughout the D.C. metro area, in Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Rockville, Md., along with downtown D.C.
