Columbus Rumblings
The word in MLS circles is that Columbus is going to waive veteran goalkeeper Jon Busch, who suffered a serious knee injury in 2005 and played only eight games last year. That would leave them with Hesmer, Gaudette and Gruenebaum. Are they confident in that crew (no pun intended), or is a trade/signing on the way?
Here's the Columbus Dispatch's follow-up to last night's report.

Paging Mr. Zach Thornton on the white courtesy phone...

Er what does Thornton have to do with anything? Would give Crew 4 keepers again.Which is one too many.

Gaudette and Gruenebaum look to be the definition of mediocre. They are both MLS backups, not starters. I've never seen Hesmer play, but the fact that he could never unseat Bo Oshoniyi tells me he must not be any good at all.
Does the Columbus braintrust really think that Andy Herron will bridge the gap between last place and the playoffs? They haven't added anyone else. Hejduk coming back helps some, but to me they still have the same group of role players that won't go anywhere.

New York and Dallas both seem to have a lot of quality to spare in the nets...

Maybe they can get Nicky Rimando! He might be able to sign for every team in the league this year!

We really do appreciate the info on possible Crew moves, SG. Don't see a trade coming though I've been wrong before, but Sigi seems to believe in Andy G as the future. He did train with Blackburn in the offseason so hopefully something rubbed off from Friedel. As to Herron being a cure all?? No, but I can't imagine they're finished piecing this team together yet. The one thing this club has going for it is depth, but we've seen how well that serves Columbus on the trainers table.

Last post by "Noah Palmer", classic. It will be sad to see Jon go. But remember "not stupid", one would think 3 keepers would be enough, but after our GK fiasco last year, 4 might not be enough.
But Gruenebaum will have the skills, trust me. Sigi is high on him, but then again he kept playing Eddie Gaven and Ezra Hendrickson all last season too...

I have lost all faith in Sigi. If this is true, it will be the biggest mistake in Crew Player history. I do not think he realizes how involved Busch is in the community, and how popular he is with the fans. Not to mention, he is far better than any of the other GK's at this moment in time. Hesmer has not even trained yet, Gaudette has been hurt twice, and Andy is not 100%. Just another silly move by a manager who is losing credibility with every transaction.

Robbie Rogers is free from Heerenveen March 1st
I believe the Crew are ahead of us in the allocation list, but Toronto and KC have used theirs since the last list came out. Correct?
As a former UMd standout is DC interested?

Hard to believe. It's great that we in Columbus are getting info from a writer in DC while our local paper hasn't mentioned the Crew in days............
