Welcome to the Hall
The U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame will announce this year's inductions this afternoon in Los Angeles and it could be the first all-female class.
Mia Hamm is a no-brainer.
Julie Foudy seems likely. Joy Fawcett is a strong candidate.
On the men's side, Joe-Max Moore and Marco Etcheverry are eligible.
MIchelle Akers, Shannon Higgins-Cirovski, Carin Gabarra, Carla Overbeck and April Heinrichs are already in from the generation of U.S. women's soccer pioneers.
Who do you think belongs?

Hamm, Foudy, JMM and Etch deserve to be in this year. Though somehow, I think they'll rook Marco.

Art Monk. Oh wait, wrong HOF.
Posted by: Chief Clancy Wiggum | February 27, 2007 10:59 AM
Joe-Max is the best player on that list

Marco and Mia are def. deserving of hall of fame status. Mia did for womens soccer in the US what McGwire did for baseball

Too bad only three can get in.
Posted by: sitruc | February 27, 2007 11:55 AM
If Etcheverry does not get in, then the Soccer HOF is a joke.

Hamm Fawcett Etcheverry

Is this the "I might have a pretty interesting United/MLS story in tomorrow's paper. Details to come..."??
Posted by: Rocko | February 27, 2007 12:22 PM
No....that was the article about Stoichkov, et al, getting sued....
Posted by: Mark | February 27, 2007 12:27 PM
Etcheverry, Hamm, Foudy

Hey, Steve. Now that we're remembering some great women players, how about some news about this: http://www.womenssoccerusa.blogspot.com/
The women's division 1 league is moving seriously to come back and Hendricks and Freedom are part of that.
What's the latest about Hendricks and the DC United ownership group?

Ian, if you really think that JMM was a better player than Marco, you've got some tapes to watch.
Should be Marco, Mia, and I don't really care who else.

How is it that a Bolivian is up for consideration for the US Soccer HOF?
I mean, el Diablo is fantastic, but really . . .

Goffer - great blog like usual - on DC United's website they are reporting that "Brazilian striker Welton Carlos Silva has joined United on trial." Any additional info?

Yo. Steve Goff just called me and ordered me to post here that Foudy and Hamm were the only inductees. I can't believe I've gone from blogging pioneer to Steve Goff's personal assistant in six short months.
Oh well, he refuses to go to tailgates, which I most assuredly do not.

Dan-
Maybe you can find solace in the fact that you taught Goff everythings he knows about blogging. Maybe.
Posted by: Rocko | February 27, 2007 1:38 PM
The three ladies will go in alone this year.
Posted by: Silver Spring | February 27, 2007 1:49 PM
Yeah, Goff, what'st he deal with this Welton, he's not the welton, is he?
Posted by: DCAustinite | February 27, 2007 1:55 PM
Well, the HoF is officially Dead To Me - Colbert-style.
You're not, though, Steinz. So you've got that going for you. Which is nice.

It's Welton Carlos Silva, so it's almost certainly not THE Welton.
This guy's probably only Roberto Carlos.

Is Kenny insinuating that Mia was juiced?
Posted by: Kim | February 27, 2007 3:07 PM
I'm guessing Hristo is out of the running...

The important question about the all female HoF class is whether ESPN will use this as another excuse to post a photo of Heather Mitts (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Posted by: Anonymous | February 27, 2007 5:47 PM
Are you kidding? AJ Feely signing a contract extension with the Eagles was a good excuse to put up a picture of Heather Mitts.

Joe-Max Moore? Is that a joke? What would be the arguments for his inclusion?

On the men's side both JMM and Marco should be in there.
