DCU 3, Tecos Reserves 0
80-minute match in Guadalajara, goals by Emilio, Gomez and Casal
Same starting lineup as last week, Boswell was the only DCU player to go all 80 minutes
Subs:
Nolly for Perkins and Moose for Gomez at the half
Later, Arguez for Olsen, deRoux for Gros, Walker for Emilio, Willis for Moreno, McTavish for Erpen, Wilson for Namoff, Casal for Simms, Carroll for Carroll
(Dyachenko still recovering from knee ailment)
Fred was not allowed to play, pending his international transfer certificate approval
The team was hoping to play a second division club Friday, but that didn't work out, so they'll have an intrasquad scrimmage instead
If you haven't already seen this video over on Dan Steinberg's Sports Bog, watch it immediately.

Yes, I think he would play. He's too good to sit on the bench.

Sorry Goff, I don't get one thing, why would Fred not be allowed to play in a scrimmage against the Tecos reserves? Its a scrimmage, not an official game, is it the mere fact of him representing DCU at all thats at question due to the international ok? These A-league guys are really making me mad...

He's not allowed to represent DCU.

On SI's website, under Truths & Rumors, it is being reported that MLS and the Red Bull have agreed on a transfer fee for Juan Pablo Angel of Aston Villa. Have you heard anything to confirm this rumor? If it is true, I must congratulate the Red Bull even though they will still stink, for picking up a very competent striker. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Our defensive depth is a little scary. We can't even sub out all 3 of our starters in a scrimmage. I wonder what the starting back line is going to look like for the reserve matches?

Hmm I wonder how many games it will take before Casal gets the start over Simms?
Maybe we'll find out on the 3rd.
Who needs defensive depth when you have Perkins? We can't let him fall asleep in goal :-)

who's taking the goal kicks these days?

Good to see Casal get on the board. I wonder: with Emilio and Gomez playing like they are, is anyone else gonna get to score?

If Casal is really ready to start then it may not be Simms making way for him. Carroll may have gotten the callup to the national team, but I thought Simms played better in the first three games. The coaching staff seemed to agree, replacing Carroll and not Simms with DeRoux against Chivas in DC.

Carroll was having a poor game in that he had little effect deterring Bofo.
Besides, if Casals and Fred start then Gros is the guy out in addition to Simms or Carroll. I don't think we will see both of Casals and Fred starting. We need Gros defensively in this game. If we can get the int'l clearance for Fred then I expect to see him start.

What happened to Kpene - is he with the team in Mex? Is Bobby Boswell going to be a de-facto freelancer with his video/blog updates?

Kpene is with the team. Probably a minor injury, although his contract details have yet to be completed, I believe. That might have been a factor. He's a developmental player, anyway. You're not going to see him in any real matches.

Thanks for the link to SportsBog and the Emilio video. Good stuff. Great sense of humor from Luciano.

How did you youngins look in the match (i.e. Casal and Arguez). It seems Casal is really showing well is it looking like he gonna get first team PT (even just as a sub) sooner rather then later?

DId Sammy Ochoa play for Tecos? Man that kid looked promising not too long ago but I haven't heard anything about him for a while.

RE: JP Angel. The Meadowlands have a mysterious ability to prevent the spark of talent from igniting a fire of success. Strange, considering there should be a lot of flammable swamp gas around.

I am not in Mexico. Sorry, but I have no performance reports.

do you think even if Fred's transfer certificate comes through, he would play against Chivas? since he will have only played in intra-squad scrimmages?
