Greetings from Estadio RFK

Oh, all kinds of strange things happening here at the ballpark a couple hours before kickoff:

*Former Terp Domenic Mediate, a flank player who never fully regained form this preseason after having his leg broken last August against Los Angeles, has been waived, which clears space for another senior roster player (Welton Silva? developmental player upgrade?). Mediate was not eligible for a developmental role and the team couldn't justify keeping him on the senior roster ahead of more qualified others. He played in eight league matches last year and made two starts.

*DCU and Comcast SportsNet finalized their four-year broadcast deal, which means each and every one of the 30 regular season games will be on live TV this season. According to sources, Comcast paid an undisclosed rights fee -- the first time the club has sold local rights. The full schedule on TV is a bit misleading because HDNet, which will carry three games exclusively, is available in so few homes. Also, you'll need Fox Soccer Channel to see several others.

*DCU legend Marco Etcheverry will be special consultant to the president, aka Kevin Payne. He is not a full-time employee, but will assist in youth development, help establish relationships in Latin America and provide scouting.

*The field looks terrible. Muddy footprints everywhere. Ugh...Enjoy the view on FSC.

The field doesn't look that bad, grumpy.

Oh, snap! You just got PR $%&@$-slapped!

Man, MLS loves announcing vague partnerships that seem important, but at the same time probably won't mean much.

Well, dammit, I'm announcing a landmark partnership between myself and Chipotle. For the first time, I'll be enjoying the full menu, rather than just the chicken fajitas.

There.

I'm announcing a partnership between myself and Heidi Klum. She doesn't know it yet but that's okay. I expect it to be just as fullfilling and mutually gratifying as all of the MLS partnerships we hear about and of about just as much consequence.

And SG--please keep up the good work.

Goff-

What do you got on the "important attacking player" signing Payne was talking about?

Posted by: BBS | March 1, 2007 6:44 PM

due to the rain we sat in section 306. From here you can see the field as well as who is moving around between the boxes (owners, etc.) Sighted:
Marco
Peter Novak
Mayor For Life Barry (who had a short conversation with new owner MR. McFarland.
DCU Front office (KP, DK, etc.)

Lot of activity on the catwalks with people moving around between boxes constantly.

Any stadium deals done? :)

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Any word on if Mediate is recovered enough to play professional soccer in at any level or did Ugo completely kill his career. I hope its the former and he becomes a beast for the Battery or another USL team. Shame that DC couldn't keep him, but it makes sense with the senior roster limitations.

Shocking to see Mediate let go given he's the fastest player on the team and could help defensively on the outside where the team is lacking (see last night). If Erpen and Namoff don't pick it up the next moves need to be for new players in their positions.

Joe,
Seal's got the partnership with Heidi Klum.
Good luck taking him out.
If memory serves, they just had a kid...
