Right Said Fred

Just for the fact that he appeared in this ridiculous commercial in Australia, Brazilian recruit Fred has got to play for D.C. United.

Ho. Lee. Crap.
I like he went sockless - We don't need a guy who needs the sock. The sock-needing guys play for the New Jersey team :-)

I think you just ruined Steinberg's day by beating him to posting this.

You have warped my fragile little mind.

Steinberg is on paternity leave!

This commercial is going to be even better when it is performed by Gomez and Emilio's interpreters, with Francisco Tobar as the sexy nurse.

for someone who does urine testing for drugs, the idea of putting urine on a slide and then looking at it through a microscope is quite disgusting. Guess that's why no one in the A-League ever tests positive.

Glad to see the guy has a sense of huror though, and speaks a little bit of English. Wonder if the other players will be able to understand the Australian accent?

"Steinberg is on paternity leave!"

Tell HIM that! The workaholic posted something earlier today.

This from my friend that follows Melbourne:

Very good player for Melbourne. High work rate, great passing and certainly an attacking style of midfielder. Played through the centre for Melbourne but given his ability could go wide. Only concern is that he may not have electric pace to get around the full backs if he is out there.

RB, your friend hasn't seen MLS full backs, has he.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Oh my . . . he's going to have a horrendous time in the locker room with Boz and the rest of them. I hope he got paid lots of money for that ad.

It may be a ridiculous ad but Fred had a fantastic season for Melbourne Victory in the A league here in Australia. One of three Brazilians signed for the second season of the A League, Fred was the only one who made a real impact. A great touch, good vision and a excellent work rate made him very difficult to contain.

The season was rounded off with a 6-0 victory against Adelaide United in the Grand Final in front of 55,436 fans in Melbourne. Fred assisted 4 of Archie Thompson's 5 goals.

My friend hasn't matched much or any MLS -- so I imagine he's somewhat overestimating the speed of MLS defenders (though some are quick). Still, it probably means Fred wouldn't be one to just sprint down the sideline and cross the ball -- I'd imagine him linking up with Gomez more and playing through the middle than a a lennon-type player.

If Fred is so good, why is he going to MLS? He should be in Europe

Posted by: Boom | March 6, 2007 10:57 PM

maybe the A-league is even less respected in international circles than MLS? is that possible? :)

Posted by: jeremy | March 6, 2007 11:49 PM

Looks like he'd do at right midfield:

RU kidding? The A-league is 10X more relevant in Austrailia than the MLS is in America, even though they have only been around for 3 or so years.

My guess is Fred coming here cuz he wants break Beckhams other knee in a game ;)

Does this guy have any national team caps? "Fred" rings a bell or two.

Posted by: plc | March 7, 2007 9:41 AM

Wrong Fred.

"Other Fred" recently appeared versus Portugal...an explanation for familiarity, perhaps?

Posted by: Jared | March 7, 2007 10:56 AM

maybe we should give him no. 9 and start calling him 'Freddy'? And then we could trade him to RSL for a first round draft pick and a major allocation.
