Slow Day. Q&A?

Not much going on. Moose was back at training today for DCU after taking a boot to the face yesterday. UEFA Cup semis (aka La Liga tournament) this afternoon. One MLS match tonight on ESPN2 (and it's a pretty good one -- Dallas v. N.Y.). Still no DCU stadium.....

If you've got questions, I've got answers (maybe).

Post your SHORT inquiries below by 6 p.m. and I'll respond this evening.

Release the hounds!

other DC paper sources state that our favorite defender will be benched this Saturday in favor of McTavish. What's your read on it? Is Mickey T poised to have the breakout year as alluded to?

What is up with former Chivas iron man John O'Brien these days?

Posted by: Ron | April 26, 2007 1:56 PM

1) Freddy Adu vs Josy Altidore:
Is it proof that Freddy was overhyped, or proof that soccer is not a one player sport and Josy is benefitting from a better team around him?

2) Have you spoken to Esky? Is he really bummed about his situation, especially after the first couple games?

Posted by: The Big VA | April 26, 2007 1:57 PM

1. Is Erpen gone after this season?
2. What is the biggest overall change in D.C. United media relations department since the new ownership took over?
3. If Facundo Erpen gave the ball away but there were not any fans to see it, would there still be boos?

Watching the games this year, have you noticed an increase in...something making the games more interesting this year?

Posted by: Ledy | April 26, 2007 1:59 PM

any word if Dc would use there designated player rule?

How will Bobby Boswell's chocolate cat costume affect his closing speed? Reflexes?

Posted by: Arrrlington | April 26, 2007 2:06 PM

Understanding we need to have all our players play better defense how about this for an experiment? Start one of the next games with Gomez as the withdrawn forward and put Fred at the AM spot?
Gomez is solid in and around the 18 and have Fred feed him and Luciano.
I am still thinking about that pass Fred hit Jaime with at the top of the 18 from about 25 yards away at the end of the last game.

Posted by: JMR | April 26, 2007 2:06 PM

Do you envision Fred in the starting lineup for the next game, and in what position?

Posted by: Ed | April 26, 2007 2:07 PM

What are the chances of Fred starting this game on the right? If not, who will?

I'd also like to second that John O'Brien question.

Posted by: Chest Rockwell | April 26, 2007 2:07 PM

Why was Adrian Fenty at our last match if he did not announce anything about the stadium? Kind of anticlimactic.

Why does it hurt when I pee? Is it Facundo Erpen's fault somehow?

Will we ever know the real story of Jurgen and the USSF? What are the most reliable 'rumors'?

Posted by: Rij | April 26, 2007 2:13 PM

if you had the authority to use the designated player rule, who would you pick to come to DC united?

Has DCU settled on its back line for Saturday's game yet? If so, what'll it be?

Posted by: Juan-John | April 26, 2007 2:19 PM

Why is it that the USMNT and the USSF are so reluctant to schedule international friendlies against European superpowers such as England, Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugual, and the Netherlands? Granted, I am pretty stoked for Copa America, but if the US has any realistic chance to advance in the 2010 World Cup, we need to be competing less against CONCACAF opponents and more on UEFA teams. I think Sunil Gulati has no idea what he is doing, and therefore should be fired.

Posted by: Soccer question | April 26, 2007 2:20 PM

Do you still lurk on Bigsoccer?

Posted by: Chico | April 26, 2007 2:23 PM

Any word on how the new full-time USSF refs are doing and how that program is going?

Second the question on the media relations folks.

Lastly, will Steinberg be joining you for a tag-team, slap-in, slap-out session in your second straight weekend in Columbus?

Posted by: G-Unit | April 26, 2007 2:24 PM

Why is it that less coaches in MLS wear a suit and tie? I remember Peter Nowak always wearing a suit and tie, along with most other international managers/coaches, yet MLS and the USMNT coaches wear warm-up's, I think it is quite disrespectful. Has anyone else made that observation. Do you think it is American thing, or are there coaches in the Premiership who do not wear suits? I think it brings a lot of class seeing a coach sporting the Italian suits, with the giant windsor knots. Off the top of my head, the only coach in MLS who currently dresses for the occassion is Fernando Clavjio. Any insight?

Posted by: DC United Fan | April 26, 2007 2:25 PM

I respect your opinion on alot of matters with DCU, and the world of soccer. That being said what's your gut telling you? Were we misguided in thinking that United will be a conteneder this year? Are they really as good as we thought? Are they really as bad as they look? What's your opinion on how Soehn is handling matters? Is it us or is it the rest of the league?

For the first time in many years I really can't place my finger on where DC stands, where do you think we'll finish come October?

1. Is Addlery the first forward option off the bench (ahead of Walker)?
2. Any inside scoop on these Zidane to MLS rumors?

Posted by: Eric Z | April 26, 2007 2:34 PM

Why?

Posted by: ohboyohboy | April 26, 2007 2:37 PM

A non sequitur:

I can't remember where, but I read a article about Chad Johnson (flamboyant Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver) and his soccer roots. He explained had the American soccer landscape been more stable and "fiscally sound" when he graduated from high school, he probably would be a soccer player today, not a football player.

That said, if you had your pick of the litter of American athletes from any sport, who would you like to be playing for "your" MLS squad?

Posted by: James | April 26, 2007 2:41 PM

What ever happened to Garth Lagerway?

Posted by: Beans | April 26, 2007 2:41 PM

Coats and ties -- that's it. I can't wait to see Sigi in a nice tailored three piece outfit, maybe a nice windowpane check.

Posted by: griffin1108 | April 26, 2007 2:43 PM

Any hints that DC would trade their DP slot for a really solid MLS central defender (trying to think of one)? Related to the Zidane rumors?

Did you catch the KC game last night, or atleast the highlights?? How down right embarrasing is the KC franchise to the league with they (lack) of attendence, on a home opener non the less? Maybe im spoiled as a DC united fan but its just kinda sad cuz as much as i love United, i love the league.

Posted by: djb | April 26, 2007 2:54 PM

How has Freddy Adu played thus far in RSL's disasterous season? Is he playing in the middle, as he had hoped?

Posted by: Southern Maryland | April 26, 2007 2:56 PM

forbidden, not forbiden. Geez drinking some warm creamer can really mess with the 'ol membranes.

Posted by: Chief Clancy Wiggum | April 26, 2007 3:01 PM

Instead of having two separate teams play in the same stadium (Galaxy and Chivas), why not move Chivas to Miami?

Questions about Madrid 1) Do you believe Saviola will actually leave Barca for RM (as reported by Marca) and 2) most importantly, do you like Beckham as a blond?

Serious question barrage:

Why, after having served as an assistant coach for years, and playing several serious matches coming into this season, is Tommy Soehn still experimenting? Any insight as to why he'd start 3 limited, inexperienced players on the wings in the first 2 matches of the season when that sort of 'blooding' is usually reserved for meaningless mid-season afternoon squabbles with the likes of Chivas USA?

Any signs that Brian Carroll is being held accountable for his poor play so far?

Are there ANY hopes of DC playing a 4-3-3 anytime soon?

How is Ben's beard doing?

Posted by: d, dc | April 26, 2007 3:27 PM

First coach fired: Ellinger or our scottish friend up in toronto?

Next great MLS coach: Richie Williams? Sasho Cirovski? Other?

Posted by: jj | April 26, 2007 3:29 PM

add-on to the O'Brien question... why isn't he on Chivas' roster?

How has Soehn changed since DC United's disappointing start?

Has the team added a level of importance to the C'bus game.

An 0-2 start really isn't a big deal in MLS, but for a team with high expectations and new ownership, it may be looked at closer. Has there been any actual or apparent pressure coming down from Chang (or one of the other owners) to make dramatic tactic or personnel changes?

If we're 10 points out of first place in the East by the end of April, will DCU Management consider looking at new coaching options?

Posted by: TCompton | April 26, 2007 3:29 PM

Pick one player from anywhere in the world, regardless of cost, nationality, contract etc. Who would DC United want to help their roster?

Posted by: dela | April 26, 2007 3:31 PM

If I could answer dela's q:

Michael F. Essien. Anyone who says otherwise deserves a swift kick in the face.

To Steve:

What score does DC need against Columbus to quiet the natives?

If Erpen is out, can he be traded to make room for another defender?

"Pick one player from anywhere in the world, regardless of cost, nationality, contract etc. Who would DC United want to help their roster?"

Fabio Cannavaro

Posted by: the old man from Scene 24 | April 26, 2007 4:34 PM

Can we take a poll to decide the offical nickname of the US Men's team, and then submit it to the USSF, so that we can in fact stop referring to them as the USMNT?

Will Keller move to MLS this summer when his Gladbach contract ends?

[I don't think many teams 1) feel the need at GK enough, or 2) have the cap space required to bring him to MLS even though he wants to come home. I'd love to see him sunset in MLS given that he's still playing at a high level]

Posted by: 5280 | April 26, 2007 5:05 PM

Any chance RSL will replace Rimando w/ Keller?

Whatever happend to Jon O'Brien? is he even still on the Chivas roster? is it just me or did he slip away after the WC?

Posted by: HFIC | April 26, 2007 5:22 PM

Do you see the Designated Player Rule blowing up in MLS's face next year when underpaid but not well know players like Christian Gomez, Shalrie Joseph, and Dwayne De Rosario all hold out to try and get their teams to sign them to DP contracts? Can't we spread the wealth to some guys who have already proven they can play in this league?

Posted by: Capitol Hill | April 26, 2007 5:29 PM

1)Has the front office found a defender they would like to sign? any leads? are they looking or not so much?

2)Is it smart to offer steep discounts to try to fill the place for TV next Thursday, or does it smack of desperation?

Celtic are looking to loan out young defender John Kennedy this summer. Given United and Celtic seem to have a good relationship and some say United need defensive help (I wonder who would say that...)any chance he could end up at United for a spell?
