Rumors and News

Eskandarian to RSL and Cunningham to Los Angeles. That's what I have heard through MLS channels. Do not know any other details. Just the rumor du jour.

Back with more stuff soon....

Goff, I know it's the well-coiffed elephant in the room, so can you let us in on whether LA is being held to salary caps or not?

Does this mean Radzinski to TFC?

Cunningham is known for his incredible heading of the ball. ; )

Perhaps if Beckham keeps his crosses very low to the ground, LA could be in business.

Well it appears TFC aren't getting anyone in return so it looks like their trying to get some allocation money and cap space. Maybe Radz is on his way to MLS. In my opinion these moves would benefit each team involved.

Logan Circle -

Short answer: No.

These are odd rumors. LA already has fast attackers (Donovan, Findley) to compliment Jaqua. I'm assuming (probably wrongly, due to their track record of idiocy) that RSL won't just be giving Cunningham away, but LA has few players that will actually benefit them.

Nate Sturgis would be an improvement at left back over Wills Forko, but not nearly enough to give up the defending goalscoring champion. People have mentioned Albright being shopped around, but I don't see LA trading him. Other than that, no one LA would give up would crack RSL's first XI. Cunningham for bench depth is not going to happen.

The Esky-to-RSL deal would actually make some sense, if Cunningham were traded. However, since it's contingent on such a bizarre hypothetical, it's not worth considering.

If true, then how much does it suck to be Esky?

Also, Cunningham could work in LA, giving defenders another big strong body to deal with while Landon makes mischief in the midfield (if he comes to play). But without either Landon or Mr. Posh, Cunningham is going to be starved of service, despite his ability to hold the ball (if HE comes to play) and it could be a long summer for him.

Still, has to beat playing for RSL.

If true...

MLSunderground is reporting the deal going this way:
The trade of Jeff Cunningham to Los Angeles for Nate Jaqua and an unknown player

I'm thinking either Kyle Martino and/or Chris Albright might be in the discussions...

RSL's just trying to recreate the absolutely DEVASTATING Adu-Esky combo of yesteryear.

Oh wait...

Let this be a lesson to the other players around the league: score on DCU, get shipped to Salt Lake. ;)

Posted by: asfoolasiam | May 22, 2007 1:42 PM

Poor Esky...from the worst on the field team in the league to worst run franchise in the league. Earl Hickey is after his ass for some reason...

I honestly don't see LA giving up Jaqua. I think the trade for Cunningham make sense if Yallop wants to play in a 4-3-3 formation with Donovan, Jaqua and Cunningham up top, with Jaqua being the target man. I can see Toronto trying to free up cap space to acquire Radzinski: the more Canadians the merrier, I guess...

hi Steven, love your soccer coverage! do you think it would be worth it to travel up to Giants Stadium next week to watch AEK Athens .vs Benfica (Portugal) in a friendly match?

latest rumor from my unnamed sources -
my butt to a toilet seat.

I mean that burrito from Chipotle isn't sitting right in my belly.

I just checked my facebook and added Alecko as a friend, and he said this in his status update, "Alecko is in shock.... just found out i got traded from TFC to Real Salt Lake.... definitely did NOT ask for this so im pretty devastated right now."

That bite for Esky. He looked every bit himself and comfortable against United. Those Toronto fans would have taken to his style of play and gotten a lot in return.

Man, that bites, he just got his furniture!!

Posted by: delant | May 22, 2007 2:39 PM

That is too bad since he seemed to totally be enjoying his time up there unlike all of the guys who fought to get away from TFC when they landed there. At least he knows Nick and Freddy...

Esky to RSL
DeRo to TFC
Zizou to Houston

Take that!

"Let this be a lesson to the other players around the league: score on DCU, get shipped to Salt Lake. ;)"

In that case it should have been Boswell, not Adu, that got sent to RSL. :)

"it is pathetic that esky has a facebook page"

Agreed. But it's wonderful that Heather Mitts has a MySpace page.

Jay, its that kind of approachability that makes the MLS what it is... very small
