Trial Ends

Assistant coach Mark Simpson tells me that United has decided not to offer a developmental contract to Edwin Twesigomwe, a 19-year-old defender from the Fulham youth academy in London who had been training with the club this week.

I wonder if that means they think they're going to get the pole? Probably not.

Probably more to do with the fact that they'd have to wrangle another youth international spot, while D.C. has an extra senior international spot to fill.

Or, you know, maybe he sucked. :)

Wasn't his trial initially extended into next week? If it was and this is an early dismissal, I'd guess it was him not playing well that got him the boot over logistical things.

I wouldn't imagine the two to be mutually exclusive, and Goose is right about slots. DC gets 4 SI spots that can't be traded (the players can be traded but not the slot), and 3 YI spots than can be traded permanently or temporarily. DCU has Erpen, KPene, and Casal as YI slots, but don't know if they had ever traded slots. So the question to me is whether this guy was good enough to replace Erpen.

I realised I left my post open to the Erpen snipers, and I'm sorry.

So what's his next step? Try out for a USL team?

This is unrelated to the pursuit of the Polish player.

Edwin just wasn't nearly good enough during yesterday's scrimmage and there was no reason to keep him around longer if he wanted to explore other options. Uncertain what he will do next -- perhaps return to England.

Good. I never knew how to pronounce his name, anyway.

No idea where this Edwin fellow will wind up but there are several recent DC reserve players and former trialists around the USL in places like Richmond, Carolina (I think's that the name of Stokes' current team) and Crystal Palace USA in Annapolis.

That's where obscure pre-season Cameroonian striker Matthew Mbuta wound up:
