Goal in 10 Seconds

Houston scored 10 seconds into its match with Morelia last night. Unfortunately for the Dynamo, it was unable to hold on for the final 89:50 and had to settle for a 1-1 tie, leaving SuperLiga's Group B semifinal berths up for grabs heading into the final matchday Wednesday.

For the first time in a long time, Houston looked fragile in defense. Of course, Metro Reject Zach Wells didn't help out any. That goal is totally on him. Zack's bad. Considering the three goals Houston gave up at NE, it might be the way to beat Houston is to "get up 'em" like the teams in England do to Arsenal. Morelia, by the way, might just have the nastiest team in the world. They out cheap shot New England! They have dirtier players than Heaps and Lorentowitz.

Wonder if the goal made sportscenter?

You could see Wells didn't shake off the goal for the rest of the game, and when they called full time the first thing he did was apologize to his defense.

Unfortunately for the Dynamo, and unfortunately for DC, too.

i'm don't think the goal was Wells fault. From where i sat (which was confortable in front of my TV), i saw that Wells, a defender and the mexican player all had a shot at it.

Defender was closest to it and actually moved out of his way so goaly can get to it. That basically left Wells one-on-one with the mexican player. and from that point, mexican player had a first touch. Wells threw his body. and of course what happened? the ball ricochet off of Wells and landed in another Mexican players foot.

to me, the play should have gone differently. Houston defender had first crack at the ball. Houston defender saw goalie coming but did not want to take a chance and blasted the ball out of the ballpark. End of story.

by not means this was Wells fault.

and to add Houston's fault they really did not do much in the last 89'. They all pretty much retreated to defense. how are you going to win a game like that?

Texan, the Morelia player didnt get a touch, Wells just slapped at the ball and it slipped away from him right to the other Morelia player who proceeded to score. The Houston defender was called off by Wells, so he did exactly what he is supposed which was sheild the first Morelia player from the ball giving Wells the opportunity to come grab the ball. In short the goal is on Wells and no one else.

Texan, Keep called off defender. Defenders ALWAYS listen to keeper when he calls for it. As "quarterback" of the defense, the keeper always takes the blame for mistakes like that. He doesn't take the blame for the lack of offense however.

Ooh. Nice through-ball be DeRo. Just magic.

I think the result is good for DC.

Houston had a little bit of a grounding in this match and maybe it brought down their confidence enough to give DC a chance. I'm a little nervous about our guys being able to cover Ngwenya without giving up a PK and still having someone left over to watch over Ching, Holden, Jaqua and DeRo.

How much do I hate the fact that this is our home game and its being played in Houston! The Nats better win!

How did Mullan not get a red card for that retaliatory push against the Morelia player? That's what Boswell's attacker on Wednesday got sent off for. If I was Morelia, I'd be pissed.

But yeah, I realize it's preseason, but Morelia has some chutzpah and a lot of skill and I wouldn't be surprised to see them in this thing again next year when the teams are chosen on how they finish in the league.

"How much do I hate the fact that this is our home game and its being played in Houston! The Nats better win!"

Which begs the question (that I think I've asked before): How many minutes will RFK wait following the recording of the last out on the Nats' last home game in September before they start ripping down the foul poles? :-)

Belay the above. Just read the posts in the "Matchday" thread.

Goff, I think you seriously need to reevaluate your posting habits for the blog. This past weekend had FAR too many posts, while the workday today has had FAR too few. Weekends are for time away from the computer, and weekdays are for time avoiding doing real work in the office.

I'm gunna need you to come in this Monday, Mmm-kay? Thaaaanks.

Did you get the Memo?

Anybody else see that post in the NYT's "Goal" blog about Adu being in Lisbon, and quoting the AP?

They woulda found out sooner if they had come to the Soccer Insider... :-)

I'm pissed. It was DeRo with the shove. I was hoping he'd get sent off and suspended for our game against Houston.

Thx,

Jay!
