*Soccer America magazine has unveiled its NCAA preseason polls:
MEN
1. UCLA -- 2006 finalists but Zizzo is gone and others might go
2. Wake Forest -- u-20 defender Julian Valentin returns
3. Duke -- senior-dominated squad led by Michael Videira
4. UC Santa Barbara -- defending champs return a lot
5. Southern Methodist -- Brazilian influences
6. Virginia -- lost Colaluca, Soumare, Cristman to MLS
7. Maryland -- Edu, Seitz left early, but King returns
8. Santa Clara -- three Pan Am Games representatives
9. Notre Dame -- Hermann winner Lapira is back
10. St. John's -- Top three scorers return
WOMEN
1. North Carolina; 2. Notre Dame; 3. UCLA; 4. Portland; 5. Santa Clara; 6. Texas A&M; 7. Florida State; 8. Texas; 9. Virginia; 10. Colorado.
*The Washington Freedom will play the Atlanta Silverbacks for the USL's W-League championship Sunday at 5:30 p.m. in Rochester, N.Y. Live coverage on Fox Soccer Channel.
*The second annual Nicole Cup, a 4v4 tournament hosted by Jaime Moreno and his wife Louise, will be held Aug. 11-12 in Sterling, Va., in memory of Nicole Megaloudis, the local soccer star who was killed in an auto accident three years ago. Nicole was the step daughter of former MLS coach and current u-20 coach Thomas Rongen. There will be appearances by D.C. players, an equipment drive to support the Tahuichi Academy in Bolivia and a silent auction with items ranging from Ronaldinho and Dirk Nowitzki autographed jerseys, to Yankees and MLS Cup tickets and vacation packages. We'll miss the Nichole Cup this year, which is too bad because it is a lot of fun. My wife and I went to the first one and it was not only a good 'team day' type event, but that one also had a number of Chivas USA (like EZ) players there too.
Spent way too much money in the silent auction to snare a RSL away jersey and a ball signed by their initial team. But all for a good cause.
I'd recommend all who can to attend. And bring your cameras.

Watch out for a very deep Hokie men's team this season. Now that I was able to get through saying that with a straight face, I wouldn't be surprised if the VT women's team pulled a few upsets this season.

Let's make this the thread. At the half, Freedom dominance near total in the middle third of the field. Atlanta can't get the ball forward except on breakaways, and the Freedom defensive speed shuts those down. Meanwhile, superb Freedom flank attacks on the right side. Could easily be 3-0 if not 4-0.

What was the reasoning behind the Washington Post Sports TV Listings on Sunday NOT showing the W-League Championship as an option under the Soccer heading?
