Zotinca Suspended 3 Games
Remember that little dust-up between the Galaxy and Chivas USA last week? Well, Chivas defender Alex Zotinca has been suspended an additional three games for head-butting Kevin Harmse (who was fined). Zotinca has already sat out one game and will also miss matches against D.C. United, New York and Los Angeles.

Head-butt to the face? I have no problem with three extra games. I just wish there were more consistency with MLS's disciplinary decisions. We've seen some nasty incidents the past year with additional penalties that have not necessarily fit the crime.

And this is yet another one of them.
Harmse threw a punch (that you can only sort of see in the above video). Zotinca retaliated with the headbutt. Why is Zotinca getting 3 games and Harmse only 1? I agree, Zotinca deserves a harsh punishment for the headbutt, but to me Harmse deserves the exact same punishment. They are both egregious fouls that have no place in the game.

. . .the mad Romanian Zotinca . . . . makes me wonder what happened to the lawsuit by the AU kid against the mad Bulgarian Stoitchkov, another lovely episode.
Posted by: WNT fan | August 29, 2007 5:19 PM
Honestly, you cant make out any punch by Harmse in any video Ive seen, including Goff's link here. The person who should have gotten the extra games penalty should have also been Jesse Marsch for a kick to the ribs of Beckham. Thats purely uncalled for as well and IMO this is the sort of officiating Goff is alluding to. Harmse.. I'll buy the fact he hooked Zotinca, but historically, headbutts get a typical 3 game suspension, so MLS was right on the money with their ruling.
Posted by: shirteesdotnet | August 29, 2007 5:31 PM
*Sigh* It's not right, but if Mr Beckham didn't get anything Marsch shouldn't get anything. Beckham was just as guilty for all of the fouling on Marsch prior to Marsch kicking Mr Beckham in the chest. Then the teams just form a huddle and a couple of players make light contact resulting in the cards. I wish MLS were consistent.
Posted by: sitruc | August 29, 2007 7:03 PM
Yea, consistency would be nice. Like the behind the back tackle by both a player on TFC and Beckham on Moreno recently. Both deserved reds, but got lucky with just yellows!
Posted by: Bolivian DC Fan | August 29, 2007 7:24 PM
I'm in the "where's the fine for Marsch" camp. His foul was ridiculous, regardless of perceived persistent infringement by Becks (which I disagree with). The fact that Marsch scored 3 days later rather than sitting out a red is galling.
Posted by: JkR | August 29, 2007 7:53 PM
Stop with the childish Beckham hate. Marsch deserved a red and a fine.
Posted by: Nogra Rover | August 29, 2007 8:06 PM
He barely hit that Geico Gecko sounding wank.
Posted by: AlecW81 | August 29, 2007 8:07 PM
To summarize, Marsch should have been red carded, fined, and reported to the ASPCA for the blatant kick to the Gecko.
Free pie and chips.

Is the Superliga final being webcast? I'm the OBX and they don't have any Spanish channels whatsoever!!!

Is is possible for Salt Lake and LA to win on the same night?
RSL just beat KC 3-1

I am just waiting for the ChickCam.
Posted by: Garret | August 29, 2007 11:26 PM
appears like they already have started it ...
Posted by: emanon | August 29, 2007 11:32 PM
LA "scores" first - unfortunately into their own net
Posted by: emanon | August 29, 2007 11:37 PM
this could be a bloodbath. If Pachuca could hit the broadside of a barn it would be 4-0 already.
which ankle was Beckham's problem? I thought it was the left. Looks like he just did the right one. He's gotta be pretty disappointed with how this who America adventure is turning out.
Posted by: Glenn | August 29, 2007 11:42 PM
Not looking good for Becks, he just got a brace.. with leg injuries. First it was left, now it looks like he many very well have hurt his right
Posted by: Taylor | August 29, 2007 11:42 PM
Why does the Pacucha keeper always wear that silly hat?
We know you are bald, nothing to hide.
Posted by: Garret | August 29, 2007 11:42 PM
Becks outta the game. Looks like his knee.
I wonder if Alexi Lalas has been fired yet...
Posted by: Juan-John | August 29, 2007 11:44 PM
looks like the new Becks injury might be his knee. I did my ACL pretty much the exact same way. Met a guy at the ball and he had more momentum coming than I did and my knee bent laterally in a way it's not supposed to. He looks really sad on the bench. The probably ought to get him in to the locker room.
Posted by: Glenn | August 29, 2007 11:46 PM
looks like the hottie cam has been replaced by the beckham cam
Posted by: emanon | August 29, 2007 11:52 PM
Come on! Bring back the hottie cam!
for comic relief!
Posted by: Garret | August 29, 2007 11:57 PM
Becks' knee looked swollen like a watermelon, I'm kinda hoping he's deactivated for the season. Let him heal and come back strong next season.

I wonder whose job it was to call and wake up McClaren to bring him the news of another English player going done with an injury
Posted by: emanon | August 30, 2007 12:04 AM
First half highlight was definitely Vagenas's sweet putaway -- that's the kind of clinical finishing we need in the MNT to get anywhere in 2010!
Posted by: edgeonyou | August 30, 2007 12:10 AM
if it's as serious as it looks there won't be any choice in whether or not he is deactivated.
Posted by: Glenn | August 30, 2007 12:11 AM
Martino - the Galaxy MVP?
Posted by: emanon | August 30, 2007 12:27 AM
Donovan is pure class tonight. He is really stepping up for Becks' absence
Posted by: Garret1 | August 30, 2007 12:30 AM
Just me or is this game amazing? I know there are only 12000 something fans there but it sounds like there are at least 40-50000 in the stands. This superliga is better than beckham.
Posted by: thekop | August 30, 2007 12:33 AM
glad I didn't turn off the game at halftime - I didn't expect LA to stick around this long
Posted by: emanon | August 30, 2007 12:38 AM
If only Roberts knew how to finish like Vagenas does..
Posted by: Garret | August 30, 2007 12:38 AM
Has Cannon ever played for USM
Posted by: emanon | August 30, 2007 12:48 AM
Pachuca and Cannon have kept LA in the game. How can a professional team be that bad at finishing? Oh, wait a second.
If LA ties the game Pachuca have only themselves to blame.
Posted by: Glenn | August 30, 2007 12:49 AM
WOW - what a goal

Chris Klein comes up big
Posted by: emanon | August 30, 2007 1:01 AM
Sweet Mama....
WOW.
Can't believe I'm actually cheering for LA. Must be the beer talking...
Posted by: Juan-John | August 30, 2007 1:02 AM
All of a sudden there is brown stuff in my pants. Holy mother of God. You can't write stuff like this. Go Galaxy (little brothers to DCU). GO USA!!!!!
Posted by: thekop | August 30, 2007 1:03 AM
This has been a great game, kinda surprising.
I wouldn't mind seeing Klein in the red and black.
Posted by: uranderson | August 30, 2007 1:03 AM
Things were looking grim, but somehow they hung in there. Thanks a lot to Canon for that priviledge, now lets hope they get a quick one in extra time and then defend it (which might be just as difficult as continuing to press, actually)
Posted by: Taylor | August 30, 2007 1:04 AM
and onto PKs ... (at this rate we could just stay up and catch the US-U17 game)
Posted by: emanon | August 30, 2007 1:40 AM
Cannon came off his line way early in his save.
Should have been a retake.
Posted by: Sean | August 30, 2007 1:51 AM
wow - what a game
Posted by: emanon | August 30, 2007 1:55 AM
They BOTH came off their lines at least once each, so they canceled each other out.
Unbelievable game. All Landon had to do was put the doggone ball in the doggone net, and Alexi Lalas could breathe easy.
Now, who knows...

Superliga thoughts:
***What the he!! was Vagenas thinking??? NO pressure, and easy clearance and he auto-gols. Pathetic.
***Did Pachuca take their collective foot off the gas, or did the Galaxy elevate their play? Hard to tell from the 3"x4" online view I had.
***What a strike by Kline!
***If there is any player in MLS you could select to be on a breakaway to win a game, wouldn't Edson Buddle be just about at the end of your list?
***Why in the name of God almighty does Yallop have Vagenas take the first PK for the Gals? He's already shown he can't put it in the net unless the keeper is wearing the same logo. Why not bookend with Cobi Jones, an experienced veteran to take the first and Donovan, he of the endless ritual yet decent strike record to take the fifth?
***Oh, okay, that's why you don't want Donovan to take the fifth. It involves showing courage and heart. What an awful effort by LD.
***Someone tell Joe Cannon that may have been the lamest yellow card in recent memory. We all saw the replays, Joe. You have no case. None.
***And another expensive acquisition chokes in the clutch. Could Xavier have possibly made a weaker effort? At least get it on the frame.
***LA had the chances, but couldn't get the job done. Sounds about like Alexi's tenure as GM of the Gals. Hopefully (for the sake of the league), that ends sooner rather than later.
Well, time for some heavy duty java and the U17 games....

uranderson-
Red and black? You want Klein to play for a resurrected metrostars?
I kid. I have always hated the idea of calling DC the black-and-red, since red has always, always been our third color. We wear black and white. Period. Just a pet peeve, I guess.
As for Klein, his performances before this game ranged from poor to horrendous for LA. He has been truly terrible (though he's also been out of position the entire time, as he's very clearly not a right back). He looked better than normal tonight, aside from the goal. That said, I would hope our front office wouldn't want to touch him with a 10 foot pole.

fyi - throwin and others for the future if you right click on the video window and select zoom there was full screen option
Posted by: emanon | August 30, 2007 7:59 AM
In the recent Dallas/Houston the uncoordinated Nate Jaqua was being completely dominated Goodson and used a high elbow to get to ball giving Goodson a backeye but very luckily nothing more. He gets a yellow at the time and nothing else from the league. There's a still picture on Images that shows what happen along with video but nothing. No fine or susupension so the reckless behavior with continue by the punks of the league.

Harmse is a cheating hack. Just another example of the instigator getting away with less punishment.
