DCU Close to Deal With Boca Juniors
After this spring's strategic partnership with Clube Atlético Mineiro, United is getting close to finalizing a similar deal with Argentine power Boca Juniors. There are also negotiations with an as-yet unidentified Chinese club for another partnership arrangement.

This is a truly great deal for DC United. Boca Juniors has probably the best network of scouts in South America...oh, yeah, did I forget to mention the developmental system??

Apart from press releases containing nice pleasantries and cliches, is anything actually done under these agreements? We're about half way through our one-year "partnership" with Mineiro. Does anyone know what's been accomplished so far?

Dave... didn't they get a few players on trial from Miniero earlier this season? Didn't exactly pan out, IIRC, but still, those are semi-tangible results of the partnership.
If they're looking for marketing savvy and south 'merican credibility, Boca is definitely where its at.
If they're in it for player development DCU should get at Argentinos Juniors... a few semi-talented kids (ahem... DIEGO... ahem...) have walked out those doors.

I think the terms of the agreement are that we weaken other teams by taking away their best players and prospects (Gomez, Filomeno, Erpen, Veron?) and they in turn send us some nice steaks!

Another thing that came from the Mineiro partnership was that they sent up some coaches to put on a clinic for local coaches back in August. Presumably they did some work with DC's youth teams and their coaches as well.

I know a lot of people drool for Palermo, but unless he is wearing a Boca Jr. shirt he will not score for DC. He was shocking for Villareal, Alaves and let's not bring back memories of his short stint with the Argentine national team.
These partnerships usually don't mean much but one player I would like to see in DC is Hugo Ibarra.

What's in it for Boca? Better access to a market with 300 million people, including millions of youth soccer players and hundreds of thousands of Latinos living in the DC area. That's all.
