Seven for Alves
Take a look at all seven -- yes, seven! -- goals by Brazilian striker Afonso Alves during Heerenveen's 9-0 demolition of Heracles in Dutch league play over the weekend. Note the precision finishing. Note the abysmal defending. For some background on Alves, read this May 31 story from the London Daily Mail.

I would have made those saves.

Has Chelski bought him already?

Dear Heracles Goalkeeper,
Thank you for taking me out of the spotlight.

They call Alves' hometown of "Belo Horizonte" a footballing backwater. Isn't Fred from there too? I guess in Brazil quality scales a little differently than anywhere else...

Terrible goalkeeping.

You may want to rethink the term "Chelski"
It is, at the very least, xenophobic in its nature and a number of other things...

The dummy on #9 was a thing of beauty. These are the threads from Goff that I've missed most over the past few weeks. He searches YouTube so that we don't have to.

the look on the keepers face after the last goal is simply priceless.
So how many is that for Alves in this campaign so far? At a 7 per match clip, he'll far exceed his paltry numbers from the 06-07 campaign. LOL

It looks like the only stop that the keeper made was on Michael Bradley's shot just before the half (~5:15 in the clip).

The Heracles keeper looks like Don Imus. Guess he got a new gig, but really, a 70 keeper probably won't cut in the Eredivisie.

nothing else but shambolic defending.. this is first division football!?

As for Belo Horizonte, they also produced one of the great metal bands of all time, Sepultura.

I think I hear a new chant from the Terraces!

The Heerenveen goalie let in a Perkins-esque free kick goal.

UVA to RFK,
Yeah. But Heracles' keeper guessed right (with his eyes).

And Europeans crack on MLS defending. Wow.
That keeper should never play again. He looked like he gave up.
If Nicky wants a bigger payday, here's a club for him.

Gad, what crappy defending. The Heracles back line looked like a foosball table.

I think my U12 girls side would have netted 3 goals on that team...
