Screw Blanco. Who cares?

Posted by: BK | November 7, 2007 9:15 AM

The guy knows how to bend and dip a ball, that's for sure.

Happy Nosocember!

Not linking to the Binya tackle on Brown in the Celtic-Benfica game yesterday?

That was sickening, and wow, that could have ended up badly. Thank god it didn't, but holy crap.

Dominion High School (the school in the article) is my kids' school. My son played 4 years of soccer there. Great school, and it can not be emphasized enough what a great job Dr. John Brewer, Principal, has done to create an inclusive environment at this wildly diverse High School.

Kudos to the school (where I volunteer several mornings a week) and the people involved in this program.

Can someone please compile a video of Blanco's best dive's and the ensuing whining when he doesn't draw the card?

Posted by: UVA to RFK | November 7, 2007 9:34 AM

it doesnt matter how pretty some of those goals were. blanco's style of play and attitude make him impossible for me to enjoy watching.

i think he is a detriment to the league. his flopping and badgering of refs could create big problems, and judging by the chicago matches that i have watched so far, some damage has already been done.

OT, just got a chuckle reading how the Nats are already sticking it to the District.

PREKI!

Nothing against Tom Soehn, but Preki singlehandedly got rid of one of the biggest donkeys around---Amado Guevara.

Add to that a solid turnaround for a young franchise that, I felt, played attractive soccer. And they won doing it.

Plus, they beat the Gals in their derby, didn't they?

Goff,

Are you a fan of the Quasimodo? Then why punish us with more in that video?

Darn BSPN and their ManU infatuation. I was really hoping to catch Rangers today. Could be a nice look at how good they really are - on the road at Barca.........mmmmmm. Oh well, more Tommy Smyth and Wayne Rooney for me, I guess.
BTW, is Damani Ralph at Kiev? Or some other remote Siberian outpost?

Tommy might have used his week's quota of "auld onion bag" after yesterday.

Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 10:42 AM

I must say I savor the thought of Shalrie Joseph doing some sort of Caribbean dance step on Blanco's shins until he promises never to dive again. Maybe Jay Heaps could help out.

Posted by: Hedbal | November 7, 2007 10:42 AM

Damani Ralph plays for Rubin Kazan, about 500 miles East of Moscow, n the republic of Tatarstan.

Posted by: Eric in Baltimore | November 7, 2007 10:47 AM

I remember seeing that goal against Belgium, best goal of that World Cup, I was just blown away.

Dunno for sure, but ESPN360.com might be carrying the Rangers game.

Thanks Juan-John, but I don't get that on my Comcast server. Oh well....maybe in knock-out stages.

You cannot hate on Blanco for diving and getting away with it. Hate on the refs or the league or FIFA or whatever. Diving is a disgusting part of the game, but someone wearing a suit or blowing a whistle needs to step and do something about it.

I hate Blanco with every fiber of my being when he wears that putrid green against the Nats, but he's got sick, sick touch and more desire than Landon has ever had for anything but Bianca.

If I'm starting a team from scratch, dude's my first pick.

Posted by: Golazo | November 7, 2007 11:18 AM

blanco was left off of the 2006 world cup roster due to his attitude

he spent his time crying to all the media and did his best to divide his country's loyalties to the national team

Is he going back to America after this season, whats his contract?

Gotta Love the Nats and MLB

Just wait until you find out that one of the top proposals for Poplar Point sets aside a huge chunk of land for Nats game parking...and no soccer stadium.

Posted by: Alarm Clock | November 7, 2007 12:16 PM

I assume that Bradley is waiting until after Saturday night's KC-Houston showdown to name the South Africa detachment. That aside, is there is any advance buzz as to who is likely to be called up?

I love it....LOVE IT....that baseball is screwing over the district. That's what they get for bending over for them, again and again.

I don't think that proposal has a chance in hell of passing...but in the District I guess you never know.

Posted by: Alarm Clock | November 7, 2007 12:44 PM

With this DC Government, I wouldn't be surprised to see Poplar Point turned into a big parking lot for the Nats. MacFarlane's looking smarter and smarter every day.

Sure, just like Memphis, TN is across the Mississippi from St. Louis, MO.

(from the MLS Honors thread)

Disregard a reference in my online chat to important college soccer news today. False alarm. Virginia has yet to officially announce the severity of star forward Yannick Reyering's knee injury. It looked bad on Saturday, can't imagine he will play again anytime soon.

*************

Blanco was left off the 2006 team because he and Lavolpe (the coach) did not get along. They did not get along when Lavolpe coached America (Blancos team in Mexico), Blanco especially celebrated goals he scored against Lavolpe coached teams, and he called him out on more than a few ocassions. Blanco did play part in some of Mexico's qualifiers, but didnt get called up for the WC - mostly because of that. Everyone in Mexico knew that, and almost everyone agreed that he should have been included because Mexican fwds. s*ck overall.

Lavolpe had problems with alot of people during his time as coach, Blanco wasn't the only one.

Posted by: Vic | November 7, 2007 3:10 PM

Btw, almost everyone in Mexico hates Blanco as well - even America fans.

Posted by: Vic | November 7, 2007 3:15 PM

The Blanco highlights demonstrate one of the reasons for the US superiority over Mexico: our far stronger crop of goalkeepers. There was some crappy 'keeping going on there.

Posted by: tps | November 7, 2007 3:21 PM

Judging by the empty seats, some of those America matches were played in Kansas City.

Posted by: I-270, Exit 1 | November 7, 2007 5:01 PM

So, what is the college news that you referred to at the end of your Wash Post chat this afternoon, that said would be reported shortly on this blog?

"Judging by the empty seats, some of those America matches were played in Kansas City.

In a 100k seat stadium, 50k is a half empty stadium.

Last time I checked Milan doesnt sell out home games to the likes of Piacenza.

So this Piacenza is like Kansas, the city???
Or is 50k a season total?
Well played, 1974.

Great goals. I appreciate the skill, gamesmanship, and interest Blanco brings to MLS. We need more like him.

In regards of fan interest in Milan - Piacenza is not a big draw. In regards to Mexico City, a home game to, say, Morelia, is not a big draw - hence the 50k empty seats, in a 100k stadium.

Read clearly and do your research before you post. Thanx in adavnce!
