MVP Watch: Emilio
Still a few hours until the official announcement, but I am getting solid indications from reliable sources that Luciano Emilio is the winner.
I am also hearing that Emilio, Ben Olsen and Christian Gomez have all made the Best XI. That announcement will be made Saturday.

This is all fine and good, but we need to win the cup, dammit.

Dear Mr. Garber,
Please let us increase our salary cap by the same amount we might pay a designated player like Veron or Angel($1-2 million).
With this money, I could pay my regular, underpaid starters like Burch and McTavish a decent wage ($40,000-50,000).
Plus, I could buy another Gomez, a Fred and and an Emilio (about $1 million).
This influx of talent would provide DC United with the depth needed to truly go after the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the Supporter's Shield, and MLS Cup.
Don't you want MLS to play competitive international soccer? Don't you want to establish MLS as a powerhouse in the hemisphere?
Sincerely,
Kevin Payne

@ Bart
DCU lost in the Eastern Conference finals to NE in 2006. Still though, valid point.

@D: He's not saying it's happening, he's saying he's hearing that it will happen. A subtle difference, but a fair one.

Goff:
Cup Related Question - are there any pre-game festivities at/around RFK planned for Sunday morning? Haven't seen anything posted on MLSnet.com or the WP outlets.

Well done Luci-gol!
For those who are interested, Beckham's in the starting 11 for England's friendly tomorrow. Just announced on the BBC Five Live.

Other than bagels, cream cheese, bloody mary's, and mimosas?

Delantero (aka Kevin Payne) you said it all. Raise the salary cap; eliminate the maximum and forget about the DP.
Even if Angel wins the MVP, Emilio is nonetheless the best player for the "value", i.e., when salary is cranked into the equation.
There's some comic (if not obscene) about a league that pays some guys over a million and others 11K. Sounds more and more like the NASL. MLS needs rosters full of players who make 100 to 500K and are worth it.

I hear there will be a pinata of Taylor Twellman in the parking lot somewhere. Perhaps the Midnight Raiders could come and help us take a few whacks

From nearly the top row at RFK during the "Beckham" match, I was shouting "MVP! MVP!" after Emilio scored! No one joined me and as far as I know, that may have been the earliest chant of MVP for Emilio! Can anyone find an earlier occurance? Was I the first? :-)

why should United waste its money on a bit player like Juan Sebastian Veron? Defense is what the team needs to survive. Boswell needs a partner in the back. Someone with international experience. Europe is full of 30+ defenders that could mentor him. Veron is a waste of space.

Is this really that surprsing... at the Presser on Tuesday Garber said, our Golden Boot winner and MVP is from Brazil.
A little premature, but everyone seemed to miss it.

I was in Colorado that freezing-ass day and was chanting it after Emilio gave us one near the end of the 1st reg season game ;-)

If Emilio wins it that'll make 2 years in a row that DC has won the MVP and the supporters shield. Only to crash out of the playoffs in the first round.
