just in case some of you didn't see it - everybody should see it - David Aldridge on Sean Taylor's death:

Sean Taylor, while no saint, was not a "thug." He didn't grow up in the 'hood. He went to private schools before college. And even if he was a thug - whatever that is - or embraced that culture during one part of his life, that doesn't mean he deserved to die in front of his child and fiancée, in his home, bothering no one.

I'm angry that people cry about Sean Taylor's death because he was an outstanding football player, as if his death has extra meaning because he had great closing speed. This is not about sports. We have buried 200 Sean Taylors in this city this year. We don't know what would have come of their dreams and hopes. They deserve our tears, too, for they may have been anonymous to you, but they weren't to their mothers and fathers, their best friends and lovers, their teachers and mentors.

Are DC United allowed to have Saturday night games?

Factoid: Aldridge was one of my housemates in Chevy Chase and then Bethesda after college (AU).

Wow! Those are some seriously crap sight lines at the new KC Wiz field. Just when you think that they can't make it any worse for fans in KC, they have this as their alternative. They should just get a Columbus style stadium up in 6 months.

If I was in the military and those dudes came to entertain me I'd be pissed... well, more pissed than I'd already be, what with being in the military.

song219 raises a good point. Goff, do you or anyone else know what the scheduling will be like in terms of Saturday vs. Sunday vs. weekday games next season? I assume that the higher number of non-Saturday games this past season was due to television considerations (and maybe scheduling with the Nats?) I don't mind the odd weekday game, but I felt like there were way too few Saturday evening games this past season.

Fifa player of the year award to Kaka was absolutely rubish. If their argument is that he took Milan to Champions League then C. Ronaldo was driving force to win the Premiership title as well and Milan didn't win Seria A title. As an individual player Ronaldo and Messi's skill were pure entertaining and Kaka doesn't have anywhere near that. It is another clueless awards that damage the reputation of the award system. So clearly Ronaldo should have won it.

Kwajalein was an important objective in the island-hopping campaign to Tokyo in WWII. Biggest atoll in the world, I believe.
