DCU's Brazilian Trialist
United will take a look at a 21-year-old Brazilian forward named Cesar Augusto Herrmegildo from Atletico Mineiro, which has a partnership with DCU. Given his age and experience, he seems to be a possible developmental roster candidate. More information will be available Thursday when United resumes training in Washington.

Goff didn't say 'good looking 21-year-old Brazilian', did he?

Looks pretty good in Football Manager

Luciano Emilio II, sweeeet!!!

I heard he is the next Pele!

So what does this say about our existing forward corps, Goff? Or am I reading way too much into this thing as it could just be a move for (quality) depth?
Either way "young" and "Brazilian" in MLS is a rare combination of words, a combination that sings sweet, sweeet music to my ears.

Steve,
Are you heading up to Chester for the Philadelphia announcement?
Ever wonder why Brazilian players shorten their name to one word? Cesar Augusto Herrmegildo must have been heck to type or write in the age before cutting and pasting.

I kid. I kid. :)

Goff has said he will be at RFK.

Yeah! Don't bother Goff or RK will beat you up!

But wait... Then DCU is putting him under developmental roster and ruined his abilities??

==================
From the Brazil name generator:
http://www.minimalsworld.net/BrazilName/brazilian.shtml
Cesar-Augusto Herrmegildo = Cesar Agusta
Cesar Herrmegildo = Herrmegildinhosa
Augusto Herrmegildo = Agustinho
Cesar Augusto = Augustaldo
I'm partial to Augustinho. Herrmegildinhosa sounds like its German for "Mr. Golden Pants."

Love that website -- "infantile players". Must restrain self.
Posted by: griffin1108 | February 27, 2008 5:38 PM
wow, you mean one of these partnership thingys we have with other teams might, like, actually produce something for us. *Shocked*
Posted by: Tweaked | February 27, 2008 5:41 PM
That football manager site has him listed as just "César". El Emperador?
Posted by: Skyler | February 27, 2008 5:46 PM
All hail Stevildo!

Who doesn't want to have a nickname that means Mr. Golden Pants in German?

If the stuff on the link apqjr posted is true, he could be something special. They've got it spelled Hemenegildo, but everything else (club, age) fits. If he's decent, and comes over on a developmental contract, this could be a great move. If he's no good, well, no harm done.
It's nice to see MLS clubs actually benefiting from these cooperation agreements. I recall us having one with Bayer Leverkusen after that ill-tempered friendly where Dimitar Berbatov scored a hat trick and Etch had, I believe, 2 goals and was sent off. Maybe Bayer sent us a big tub full of aspirin, but I didn't see or hear of any tangible benefits out of that deal.

so DC resumes training tomorrow on the fields outside RFK? Is that part actually confirmed? I would love to check this guy out at practice if that's the case, and he is expected to be there.

The Brazilian Name Generator was featured in Columbus Dispatch's print edition, too. Gotta love it...

Says hes an offensive midfielder..."
Works very well with both legs, excellent on long balls, precision on short passes, very good free kicks taker and a great future talent."
sounds good to me

it's actually not THAT rare to have young Brasilians in the league. It is rare to have young EXCEPTIONALLY TALENTED Brasilians in the league though.
You get a lot of guys like Thiago (the one who played for Chicago) who are capable but streaky all the time.
That being said, pretty much all of them come in with better game awareness and touch than the kids who spent 5 years wasting their time in college.

"All I had to see was '21-year-old Brazilian' and I'm sold."
I'd prefer the word "wax" to be in the mix too.
;)

Ha I love the Name generator. But from what i see on his rèsume it seems that he has a top scorer and many championships under his belt and not to mention a young Brazilian and good. I see someone great who could possibly learn something great under Gallardo since he is in his 30's and has the pro experience and could possibly mold him to a excellent world class player.

I think he will be another "Guido"

Goff,
Any word on David Blumer (21 year old forward from Grasshopper Zurich), who is also supposedly set to trial with us?

Kinda makes you wonder if the Galaxy knows anything about a spike in the salary cap withing the next few years. If so they will should be sitting on a but load of cash.

That should be the guy. According to that page he was loaned to CRB or Clube de Regatas Brazil in Alagoas state last year. They finished mid-table in Serie B last year.

This site seems to list him as Cezar and as an Avancado (or forward). Couldn't find any stats for him but if he lead Atletico Mineiro's u20 team in scoring 2 seasons ago (before being loaned) he'd probably be considered a pretty good prospect.

It's worth noting this info is from an agent's website. Presumably they would put the players they represent in the best light possible.

Staying in touch with trials. I heard theres a Camaroon player on trial with DC and has been there for a while. Any truth to that Goff.

Tomorrow's "Chester" day. Sounds like a good place for a road trip. I don't know if Philly fans will show for games, but United's fans will fill the stands when DC is there.

My brother trained with Atletico Meneiro about three years ago. This is what you had to say about Cesar, "Yeah, I played with him. I kinda remember him being really full of himself too. He was physically really strong. That's weird seeing him again. He wasn't the best player they had, I would say he was in the middle."
