That starting bid isn't in my eBay bidding range.

Seems like it is only a matter of time then before Maradonna starts auctioning things off to pay his ex. Autographed $100 bills used to snort cocaine. Boca Juniors jersey size X-X-X-X-X-L.

I didn't realize gas prices were THAT high in New York...

238 goals in 439 club matches (0.54 average), including an amazing 52 in 63 matches from 55-68.

one man's trash is another man's treasure.

one would think (or hope) that he wouldn't have (or choose) to sell his champsionship rings. presenting them as a gift to the Hall of Fame seems like a much better destination for those rings.

Bid with confidence.

I was about to bid......then I saw the comma followed by three zeros........

Posted by: yo its me | April 25, 2008 1:43 PM

it is sort of sad that he is selling off all this stuff. it sounds more like he needs to sell it than necessarily wants to sell it. Two championship rings and a Rolex...sounds like he is pawning his jewelry to make ends meet.

When I saw the title I figured Fulham was getting rid of EJ already....

Posted by: Lloyd Heilbrunn | April 25, 2008 1:56 PM

Wait...if I coach against my Dad and beat him in the championship don't I win it?

I need to get the butcher shop and make sure my italians can play tonight.

Anyone see this mans soul for sale anywhere? I highly doubt he will get anywhere near what he's asking for those pieces of memorabilia. but hey if the man needs money people should try to help him out. that cosmos ring is pretty bad-ass.

Lloyd - that was LOL funny.

I hope EJ settles in and plays well in the near future, at Fulham or elsewhere in Europe.

Sounds like a great deal! Championship rings and a Rolex that belong to a former world class player... What more can you ask for?

Posted by: Eddie Firmani | April 25, 2008 2:55 PM

Very sad to see. You people are heartless.

Posted by: NASL 4 Ever | April 25, 2008 3:19 PM

Good thing for us that Gallardo didn't go to San Lorenzo - he'd be playing River in the First Knockout round of the Libertadores.

Posted by: Virginia Blue Blood | April 25, 2008 3:24 PM

Firmani must be getting raped by him A.R.M. down there in Naples just like everyone else. And the Rolex too?

Sorry, but a $200 ring + nastalgia isn't worth $15k.

Posted by: BK | April 25, 2008 3:30 PM

Actually, the other $14,800 is for shipping, BK. Blame gas prices.

======================

Don't underestimate profligacy - $175,000 for a jackhammered Red Sox jersey with no nostalgia attached.

Posted by: I-270, Exit 1 | April 25, 2008 3:46 PM

Erick: how about you and I pool our money for it? As the true Cosmos fan, I'll be the one wearing it!!
It is sad that Eddie is doing this. I can't understand it. Starts to bring back bad memories when they shut the door on Cosmos Stadium (sorry Giant's fans). Maybe we should get it for Emilio! Maybe he'll start scoring like Georgio Chinaglia, and Gallardo will start playing like Bogey........NOT!

I'd rather have his Metro stars champio...oh wait. never mind

Posted by: SeanT | April 25, 2008 4:09 PM

That is seriously depressing.

That's cold. Accurate, but cold.

Same Zip Code for Firmani But With a Different Team
ALEX YANNIS
Published: January 4, 1996 [NYT]
Eddie Firmani returned to Giants Stadium this morning, brandishing the ring he earned as coach of the Cosmos in Soccer Bowl '77 and brimming with confidence over the challenge of being the first coach of the MetroStars of Major League Soccer.

===============================

Maybe someone should buy it and brandish it as a curse when NYRB come to town.

The team's already cursed. Anything you do might lift the curse.
