Yup, goosebumps it is. Thanks for those.
And isn't 2010 USSF target year for winning the World Cup?
Hmmmm.

I think I heard Jeremy Green doing a draft rundown for BSPN. Of course it was football and not soccer, but that's klose enough, right?

I got to see a game in Portland when Timber Jim was there. A great part of U.S. soccer history.
In honor of Earth Day, it would be great to see some solar panels at the new DCU stadium like in Charleston: http://www.charlestonbattery.com/news.asp?id=350

Goff,
You forgot:
Envy - DCU must envy any team that can score
Money - because that is what makes the futbol world go 'round.

So, the first clip gave me chills. The second makes me wonder (1) where are all of Italy's diving highlights, and (2) who high-jacked "One."
Sure, Italy overcoming their cheating scandals to win the World Cup is a great story, but for the times they dove during the World Cup, it doesn't make them seem very worthy.
Speaking of Italy and diving, does anyone still have a copy of the Italy/USA match? I'd love to watch the broadcast... my memory of the match exists only as pure anger and frustration at Italy's inability to stand up and the United States' inability to win a game.
As for 2010... I just hope the US can advance out of the group stage. Winning is a pipe dream. I suspect we're still 20 years away from winning a World Cup, but you never know... maybe a new team will it in Africa. I'm a little tired of the Brasilian, Italian, French, and German domination of the recent World Cups.

"I'm a little tired of the Brasilian, Italian, French, and German domination of the recent World Cups."
French domination of what? They won the WC once, at home, and beyond that have not exactly imposed themselves on the footballing world. Mentioning the French in the same context as the Italians, Germans and Brasilians seems a bit of a stretch, yes?

I'm pretty sure it's from a Mary J. Blige album a couple years ago.
Posted by: sitruc | April 22, 2008 9:46 AM
Racing de Santander, Betis to represent La Liga...and Real Murcia's and Levante's neon green away kits (yikes! reminds me more of nuclear waste than earth).
Posted by: RK | April 22, 2008 9:49 AM
Apparently you've forgotten that the French were in the finals of the last WC?
Posted by: RK | April 22, 2008 9:55 AM
We have more World Cups than France!!
Posted by: Uruguay Dominates | April 22, 2008 9:57 AM
I mentioned each of those teams (including France) because they've been in the World Cup finals multiple times over the last 5 or so Finals... since 1990 or 1994?
Posted by: TCompton | April 22, 2008 10:09 AM
What about the very green Seattle Sounders FC?
Posted by: PNW | April 22, 2008 10:32 AM
Thank you sitruc. I find I like Mary J even more than Cannavaro, which is a lot.
Posted by: Mysterian | April 22, 2008 10:33 AM
Actually... Add Argentina to the list and you can say they've
Argentina: (1)'78, '86 (2) '90
Brazil: (1) '94, '02 (2) '08
France: (1) '98 (2) '06
Germany: (1)'74, '90 (2) '82, '86, '02
Italy: (1) '82, '06 (2) '94

Goff,
Great job on picking up Timber Jim's retirement. He's a legend around here. A new beer was just introducted entitled "Timber Jim's Logger" at the local brewpub for the Timber's Army/fans.
Well played.

Anyone who says that Italy didn't deserve to win the last World Cup is not very smart. Players at every level of world soccer dive, its an unfortunate part of the game. I personally think the Spaniards and the Portuguese and the Argentines are the worse.
The Azzuri had the best central backs in the WC and one of the best GK's. It was almost impossible to score on them. They also still had the creativity and skill to score enough goals to win.
The US should be happy that they were the only team to NOT lose against the Italians. But only because of an own-goal.
You don't win 6 games in the World Cup simply because of diving.

Green Street Hooligans was great, except for the ending scene where Elijah Wood walks away singing "Pretty Bubbles" all by himself...kinda cheesy...
Posted by: Andy | April 22, 2008 12:41 PM
Why is the last clip not more happy? The Italians WON the world cup, it should be a more uplifting song I think. The fans look morose in the beginning. Either way, let's hope US can field a more exciting team in 2010. I'm thinking Altidore.

Does anyone remember the original Colorado Rapidman? He was green (and I believe he wore a canoe around his waist).

The Italian fans look remorse because of the controversy surrounding the Serie A cheating scandal.
I didn't say that Italy didn't deserve to win. I said they weren't worthy of the win. It's is a shame that such as good team like Italy still chooses to dive, demeaning their talent, organization, and overall success.
If you're good enough to win a World Cup, and clearly Italy was, then you shouldn't have to roll around faking injury.
The fact that other teams do it is probably a result of teams such as Italy succeeding while diving. As winners, they become models of success... good and bad. And that's a shame.

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that Italy won every game they played in the World Cup, except for their tie against the USA.
Yes, the goal was technically an own-goal, but it was off of a tricky cross that we sent into the box.

I happened to be in London at the time of that game and was in a pub in down town. When Beasely scored to take the lead, I absolutely flipped out. When it was called back because McBride (who didn't touch the ball) was offsides, I was crestfallen. There were like five of us Americans in that bar and about 100 Brits and other Europeans. I was proud of the way we played that game.

The Seattle Sounders are not green. They may be a tealish blue today and a white tommorrow and a dark blue the next day. I remember the 2002 -03 season when they decided to be red for some reason. Or 2005 when they went with the black look. The Seattle Sounders have been alot of colors but Green is not one of the,.

Some of the crowd shots in the Timber Jim piece looked like something from a small British club. Nice vibe Portland.
