Predictions, Anyone?
Does D.C. United bounce back from Saturday's horror show at RSL and continue its fine run of play at Estadio RFK?
How about Everton at home against Chelsea? (Lampard and Drogba are out, Chelsea trying to keep its league title hopes alive, Everton vying for a top-four finish)
And for those dividing their attention between DCU on ESPN2 and the Caps on Comcast, will the local pucksters finally match the big, bad Flyers' nastiness?

Goff,
Any chance you will get the overnight Nielsen's on the national ratings for Caps-Flyers on Versus vs. DC-CLB on ESPN2 for tomorrow's blog? I think they will be very close.

Overnights data, I believe, are only available for broadcast networks. Cable data from Nielsen (even "overnights" data) takes at least an extra day of processing -- so it would be Saturday or Monday I thin before anything would be known on the Versus v ESPN2 matchup.

I predict Chelsea will win, but it won't be Tim Howard's fault.
And as for the DC NHL and MLS matches tonight, I do think the DC teams will win them both, and there's a decent chance the soccer game sees more goals than the hockey game.

Chelsea will be the better team on the day but Cudicini will let in a howler and either Jon Obi Mikel or Ashley Cole gets sent off after a challenge on Ateta in the box.

Damn, I forgot my Toffees were playing tonight and I'll be at the DC game. I can't believe I'll be missing one of the biggest games of the season! Grrrr...
2-1 DC (if Carvallo plays) or 1-0 DC (if Wells plays)
1-1 tie with Everton (Yak scores)
4-3 Flyers
Posted by: Q | April 17, 2008 2:20 PM
Conditional pick... if DC plays this lineup, I say DC wins 2-1, maybe 3-1.
---------Emilio---Moreno--------
------------Gallardo------------
Fred--------------------Quaranta
-------------Simms--------------
Burch--McTavish--Peralta--Namoff
------------Wells---------------
If Tommy goes with pretty much any form of 3-man back line, DC loses 3-2.
If Dominic Mediate starts in midfield, my pick shifts to DC losing 3-1. If Mediate starts in the back, DC loses 3-2.
If Tommy tries to pull off the elusive Double Bonehead move (Mediate in the back, with a 3-man line), the pick shifts to DC losing 4-1.

Without Martinez in the lineup I see our defense struggling again, and allowing an injury time goal to the Crew for a 2-2 draw, with chants of "We Want Benny" and "We Want Josh Gros" heard throughout the stadium.

Since MLS,Fox Sports and the FCC now say that North Carolina is part of Ohio (or at least part of their TV market) does that mean I have now have to root for the Crew after 10+ years as a United Fan?.
I say NO! Screw the Crew! United forever and 6-1 tonight! (Thanks ESPN for letting me watch the team closes to my home!).....

From what I remember of the United/Freedom doubleheaders, it was always a Freedom game followed by United. A lot of Freedom fans left when their game ended, and most United fans didn't turn up until right around full time of the Freedom game. Do you think it will be better, worse, or the same with United playing first?

That's a good question. In this case it may be moot because the sequence is dictated by the Telefutura (late Sunday afternoon) time slot for the MLS game. An early Sunday start would lose a lot of families of youth league participants. In earlier years, the doubleheaders were generally late Saturday afternoon Freedom games that led into evening United matches.
