Thinking of Hristo
After reading this story, I could not help but reminisce about the lovable Bulgarian, Hristo Stoitchkov, whose ferocious challenge shattered a leg and sparked a civil suit that was settled out of court last fall. Ah, the memories. If only Paul Gascoigne had made his way to RFK, as well.

I would say that that incident goes beyond the field.
Just because you are some old guy that's paid your dues it doesn't mean you can just take people out.
Legs breaking remind me of all the bones i have broken and seen broken riding skateboards as a kid.
The snake pit would always get going at any spot.
Locals over visitors, older dudes over younger dudes.
But if you start hurting people because of you're own arrogance you a god damned Barney bro!
If some old guy ruined my career I wouldn't want 5 million dollars I'd want to slash his foreign big for nothing throat.
Sorry mom...

For some reason my post after reading six-month sentence in that article didn't appear. Too bad since I was all like "wow" and "damn" after my jaw dropped.

I was "Thinking of Hristo" earlier, when the commentators of the Man U / Barca match mentioned him being on Barcelona with Romario.

GOff, I come to your blog for insightful comments. Unfortunately, I found this post to be ignorant, subjective, and unfounded.
You are making Hristo out to be some kind of monster, when in reality, he made one mistake. His entire career he was never a ruthless player (excluding his attitude towards referees), so it is unfair to him for you to typecast him for one incident that he deeply regrets. Hristo is a world legend, a golden boot and a golden ball winner, known throughout the world for his achievements. He deserves more respect than this.

Pete, Re-read what Goff wrote...His blog is full of facts!!
Hristo is a lovable Bulgarian - FACT!!
Hrsito's challenge shattered a leg - FACT!!
The challenge sparked a lawsuit - FACT!!
It was settled out of court - FACT!!
where is the ignorance?
Given that this is blog, it does not have to be held up to the same standards of pulitzer winning material, (though I do believe you deserve a pulitzer , Senor Goff) so a degree of subjectiveness is to be expected and is welcomed...
so please pete, take the bunched up panties out of your cornhole... thanks
have a great day....

Hey pete, go ask Bobby Convey about Hristo about how well he treats teammates....during games.

I called him "lovable" -- what else do you want? ;-)
Stoitchkov was never a "ruthless player"? You've got to be kidding. Many opponents, teammates, coaches and referees would beg to differ.

Stoitchkov is a pig and should be in an institution. It's about time a court took action against some moron intent on causing injury on a field. I hope it catches on in this country.
The guy was a complete prick his whole career, and when he got old he just went off the deep end. I don't know how anyone could claim otherwise.

"Go Ahead Eagles" sounds more like a Japanese team name.
I, too, remember Bobby Convey trying to pull Hristo away from an already-fallen player during a game . . . Convey had a great quote about it afterward.
